Nova Era on Dundas Street West west of Ossington is a great Portuguese bakery, coffee store with a wide selection of pictured sweets and savories and ample interior space to enjoy them.
My mom would always get the most amazing cakes from Nova bakery, so when I saw one right across from the show I was going to, I stopped for a snack :) Spacious, decently quiet, jammin' pop tunes. There's a nice cozy couch seating area at the back-right of the place. I got a decently yummy custard tart, perfectly chewy giant choco chip cookie & a Lipton tea - all for less than 4$. Don't know why you'd pay for those expensive baked treats when you can go to Nova.
I love this bakery! Donuts are under a $1.50 and the chocolate glazed and sugar donuts are big and delicious. I like simple donuts, and when done right, they are heavenly. I was not a fan of their cream puffs and cinnamon buns though. They tasted stale.
Great breads and pastries. I love stopping by here if I need to grab desserts to bring to a friend's. The tiramisu mousse inside chocolate shells are great, although I do enjoy sweets, these are a bit cloying after a few bites. The breads make amazing french toast. And the service is always great. Sometime I do experience a bit of a language barrier, but they are so friendly we make it work!
I've bought entire cakes couple of times and honestly they don't taste of much. Don't know about cheesecakes but the other cakes have all the same taste. Anyway, Nova Era has the best plain croissants. They are not like the classic crunchy French croissants but for those who don't like feeling that slick aftertaste of butter these are perfect and huge! You will probably have to share them with someone else.
