I had time to step away from the client’s office for lunch, and decided to give Star King a try. The first thing I noticed was the hand written “cash only” notice on the front door. Once inside I saw that the restaurant would comfortably seat about 50. Only a few tables were occupied when I got there, but the restaurant was almost half full when I left.
While I waited for my food, I was served a pot of complementary tea. I ordered the “BBQ Lemongrass Chicken with Rice Noodle Soup” ($10.75 for the medium size). I incorrectly assumed that the chicken would be in the soup. Instead what I got was a couple of decent sized pieces of grilled chicken on a side plate. The soup was broth and noodles. Everything tasted pretty good. Also, if I had to do it again, I would probably order the small soup. I was really full when I left.
Service was quiet and fast.
Treated myself to some pad thai tonight (I deserve it, right??) and being a Sunday it was a real challenge finding anything open in my area that I haven't already tried. Fortunately Star King was open (I had a REALLY pad thai craving) and the dish was a deicious! For under $10, the portion was ample and the fortune cookie that came with was tasty ("Good food will always be available to you"... not totally wrong but not exactly the type of fortune i was expecting), but it while the pad thai was delicious and hit the spot, it was a bit drier than I would like and did not have much chicken or tofu. I nonetheless would gladly return :)
I took the food to go, but the service was quick and pleasant and the restaurant seemed very clean if a tad small.
Recommended!
I ordered the Rice Vermacelli when i came in and my friend ordered the Pho, the vermacelli was good however it came with very little pork, unfortunately. However the Pho looked very largeso this place is definitely worth the value in what you are getting
I got take out at this place the other day, we walked right in and sat down at a table while we waited to order our food! The waiter was very friendly and took our order quickly and the food was ready within 10 minutes ! I ordered the rare beef rice noodle soup and I was concerned it might not be enough but it was huge ! The soup broth came in a decent size container and the noodles and beef came on the side, the beef raw so it could cook as you add it to the hot broth ! The broth was super tasty, a little salty before I added the noodles but then somehow balanced out. It was so flavorful and delicious especially for the price, it was just under 7 dollars before tax but got a huge portion. Overall really fantastic for takeout !!:)
One of my favourite spots in the neighbourhood. I always have a great meal, great for take out and dining in. I've tried many dishes and have never been disappointed.
After watching a late matinee of Zootopia next door at the Yonge/Eglinton cineplex, I was starving. The first place I went to was empty so I was looking for another affordable place in the area. I did not know that there were Vietnamese Pho restaurants in the area but I noticed two on this trek. Star King had a lot of diners inside so that sealed the deal. They have Vietnamese as well as Thai food on their menu. I ordered their red curry beef brisket. You get a choice of rice or vermicelli with it. All for about $8.50. My friend ordered their Tom Yum spicy chicken noodle. Their service was so-so, it took a while for the food to arrive. The food was excellent. My red curry had a lot of coconut milk and the brisket was really tender. Their Tom Yum noodle was as advertised, spicy and sour broth with bits of chicken breast.
Amazing food, good prices, good portions. Friendly staff. Cool ambience. Had the tom yum soup, fresh shrimp rolls, vermicelli plate (massive) and chicken mango salad.
What a great little hidden gem!! Great service and great tasty Vietnamese food! We were pleasantly surprised both our plates were $8.00 for a large amount of food!! Would definitely recommend!
