My experience here was honestly just OK. There’s nothing really special here, to be honest. I got the Japanese beef bowl for about $10. It was good since it was filling, but price wise was on the pricier end. This was my second time coming here and I noticed that all the prices increased but the quality of food stayed the same or even decreased. As mentioned, portion size for my dish was decent, but for my friends, they were on the smaller end. Don’t think I’d be coming back here just because there are other places that serve better food for a better price.

鹽酥雞like! 大腸飯Like!👍👍

The Eel Omurice with Teriyaki Sauce was a sight to behold with the eel fillet perching above the omurice (omelette wrapped around tomato fried rice). The most important thing was that not only was it good looking but it tasted fantastic too.

Petit Potato is a fairly new Japanese-Taiwanese restaurant located in North York at Finch Ave. E. and Leslie St . They are under the same management team as Congee Queen. What I like about Petit Potato is that their menu has a little something for everyone. Popcorn chicken? Herbal soups? Ramen? Sizzling hot plates? Bibimbap? Omurice? Desserts? Petit Potato’s got it all! The restaurant is spacious and has picnic table style seating, a number of small booths as well as larger booths.

The Special French Honey Golden Toast series is their signature dessert! Pictured above is the Mango Special Golden Toast ($14.99) and is filled with large cubes of toast, topped with vanilla ice cream, and looks like a huge mountain. I would recommend sharing this amongst 3-5 people since this is a really large dessert.

Chicken Wings with Yuzu Sauce ($7.99). Mmmm the zesty sauce is delicious and gives these wings a perfect balance. This was my favourite appetizer!

Of course there is Popcorn Chicken ($7.75) here too as with most Taiwanese cafes. I thought the popcorn chicken is quite dry and so did the others. I preferred the Chicken Wings a lot more.

Shrimp and Crabmeat Salad ($8.99) comes with a side of sesame dressing which is very delicious and is my favourite kind of dressing. Sesame dressing in salads is quite common in Japan and I found that it goes very well with the ingredients in this salad.

Ice Honey Chrysanthemum & Rose Tea ($6.99) looks very pretty! I found this quite refreshing. I’m not a big fan of rose flavored anything but the rose taste wasn’t too overpowering. The Taro Milk Tea ($4.99) is pretty standard and you can’t go wrong with ordering this!

Dishes on the teppan menu is served on a sizzling hot plate! Tip: be sure to mix it all up before it starts burning. Smoked Duck Breast Special Teppan Cream Pasta ($11.75) was another dish I enjoyed. I really liked the smokiness. For any of the pasta teppan dishes, there is a choice of black pepper sauce, cream sauce, or tomato sauce.

Slice Beef Special Teppan Pepper Rice ($9.99) is another one from their teppan menu. Everything was quite tasty together when mixed.

Eel Omurice with Teriyaki Sauce ($12.99). How perfect does this look? If you didn’t know, omurice is a popular Japanese dish, consisting of rice and omelette as the name suggests. The egg was fluffy and overall the dish was good.

Slice Pork Ramen ($10.95) was my favourite entree and many of the bloggers thought so as well! The pork bone soup tasted creamy and full of flavour. Noodles are chewy and cooked perfectly. Mmmm…

Mango Pancake ($7.99) has a delicious mango filling in the core, surrounded by whipped cream, and wrapped in a thin layer of pancake. They look like little fluffy pillows! I really enjoyed the mango filling and the outer layer pancake but in my opinion, there was too much whipped cream in between. I wish there was more of the mango filling!

Oreo Special Golden Toast ($12.99) is the newest addition to the Special French Honey Golden Toast Series. Look at that beauty!! If you love oreos and sweets, this is definitely for you.

Mixed Fruit Sago ($5.99) really was a great dessert to end the meal. I love fruits and I am all for refreshing desserts such as this one!

Although I’ve only mentioned a few of the desserts in this post, there is in fact an extensive dessert section on Petit Potato’s menu – stewed pudding, ice cream, waffles, sago mix, sweet dumplings, snowflake (flavoured shaved ice with milk), etc. You name it! I’m excited to come back here just for a dessert and drinks kind of night.

I also enjoyed the cleanliness and modern atmosphere here and I was pleasantly surprised at the wide variety on the menu. A lot of Taiwanese and Japanese restaurants specialize in certain types of dishes and it is hard to accommodate everyone when you’re with a group of friends or family. I would recommend this place since there is something that will satisfy everyone’s taste. Petit Potato is like a restaurant, cafe, dessert shop, bubble tea shop, all in one :)

Photos of Petit Potato’s Golden Toast took over my Instagram feed when the restaurant first opened. I drooled over the tower of ice cream, toast and fresh fruit. Even friends from out of town messaged me about the dessert, asking to be brought there when they visited Toronto. I was super excited to be invited to the media dinner at Petit Potato, where bloggers and Instagrammers were treated to a family style meal that included 3 different desserts, one of which was the fabled French Honey Golden Toast.

Food overall is a 3/5 but the golden toast dessert deserves a 5/5 and their dessert menu. Gave them an overall rating of 4.

My family frequents the Congee Queen restaurants and was excited to know the Congee Queen management has a new venture called Petit Potato. With the restaurant name, it is not obvious on the type of cuisine it serves. Does it specialize in burgers and french fries, is it a brunch joint with crispy hashbrowns?  In fact, potatoes is not what they specialize in at all.

"Surprisingly good flavours together actually work really well but as you get into more and more you get overwhelmed and the taste begins to dissipate and the toast that's in the middle is too buttery which makes it too much like regular breakfast, over all score a 7.2/10" said Tyler

We ordered the Strawberry Golden Toast, a beautiful 10-inch dessert of ice cream, whipped cream and strawberries on a stack of French toast. It was so delightful. Perfect for sharing, hubby didn’t quite know initially how to slice it. We ended up just digging in! The vanilla ice cream was yummy, the whipped cream was light, and the French toast was airy and not too sweet. Delicious!

For Father's Day, we decided to go out as a family to try a local place in the neighborhood. We came to this restaurant before their re-branding and renovation. It used to be called 31 Kitchen which focus on Taiwanese food and desserts. Their food were so-so at best.

Food Rating: 3.5/5
Service: 3.5/5

Atmosphere:
The renovation has made this restaurant more spacious and added a lot of light wood themes. I like this new look compared to the previous decor of 31 Kitchen.

Service:
Service was okay. They have many servers going around in circles. They have free wiki (use their phone number).
