AMAZING secret vegetarian meal!. I LOVE this place. I'm vegetarian though and the menu here doesn't really cater to vegetarians. If, however, you talk to the amazing server that is there (I've had the same guy twice and he is SO helpful!) and tell them you're vegetarian, Boulevard Cafe DOES in fact make a delicious vegetarian meal. What I had was a tamale in banana leaf with corn meal, cheese, and minced vegetables, with a side salad, house made re-fried beans, and roasted beets. It's a BIG meal with BIG flavour. One of my faves!
Great spot on Habord Street. This place is great! The boulevard burger is delicious - moist and flavorful, and served with a generous portion of yummy fries and a fresh salad. There is a secret vegetarian option which is not on the menu, but ask for it and you won't be disappointed. We usually have the same waiter when we go here, and he's always friendly and welcoming. The patio in the summer is one of my favorite places in the city to kick back and enjoy a great meal and a nice drink (the sangria is fantastic).
Amazing Food & Service. I am hard pressed to believe some of the reviews on here and TripAdvisor, as my experience last night was so amazing that I just had to join up to UrbanSpoon and have my say.
I loved the family run, small, cozy, rustic, romantic environment of this long standing resturant.
Pisco Sour Cocktail is a favorite of mine and it was really good.
Calamari and Tropical Mussel options as starter's where amazing and cooked to perfection. I was so happy to finally taste quality produce cooked to perfection with full flavors. Something that is hard to find.
For main, I had the whole grilled Seabass - Amazing. Yukon Potatoes where grispy and hot, with a side of Swiss Chard, which I love.
Kaluha and Chocolate Cheesecake was an amazing and great ending to any meal.
I met each server, the owner and the chef. Of course, this won't happen everytime nor is it my expectation but the hospitality was like meeting family I never knew I had.
For me, the price was fair. I don't expect something for nothing, nor do I expect quality fresh produce for the same price of a frozen beef pattie. For dinner - a starter and a main, expect to pay around $35-50 with drinks and dessert more.
Oh and the bread. I love good bread. Thanks guys for thinking about amazing bread.
Overpriced but tasty. I certainly didn't have a bad experience like many of the other people who have reviewed (I went there a few months back, though) but I agree that the food is way too expensive. That being said, my food was very good and I don't really care about slow service.
Great for lunch. I have been to Boulevard Cafe many times in the last two years for lunch (not dinner), so I can only speak to that. I have enjoyed the food and atmosphere every single time. The servers don't bend over backwards to please, but they are not rude either, just business-like. Oh, they have fantastic coffee too. Once I even "shared" the patio with Deepa Mehta (in town for TIFF?) :D
Awesome. The first time I went to the Boulevard Caffee was in 1998. The dinnig experience I had is recreated everytime I set foot in the door. The same warm smile, and unmistakable welcome. The food is outstanding, deserving of an award everynight!!. I am crazy about the Boulevard Caffe. I take my friends there every opportunity possible.
Tasty. So I love trying different restaurants in our lovely city of Toronto...but the thing I like least about it is that there are so many overrated restaurants that it's hard to sort through all the crap and just find GOOD FOOD . There is nothing worse than spending $100+ hard earned money on a less than satisfying dining experience.
Luckily for me, I decided to try this well established little gem last night.
The atmosphere is romantic (think candlelight, small, rustic, etc.) and cozy.
The food is simple and delicious. We tried the Tamal to start, which was accompanied by warm, fresh crusty bread.
I had the chicken special of the evening which was called Pollo Tropical (extremely tender chicken breast in a spicy pineapple sauce and accompanied by roasted beets and sweet potatoes). My other half had the mixed grill skewer (beef, chicken, lamb and sausage) accompanied by tender fried potatoes and a dipping sauce (I think it was mint yogurt - not sure though).
Anyway - my point is that this place is great and completely satisfying. It's a definite try.
Great Brunch!. Great food PLUS a seat on the patio EQUALS the perfect weekend brunch! Everything on the brunch menu was of high quality and definitely memorable. However, the service could have been better, a bit more attentive and slightly more personable would do them a whole lotta good.
Fantastic food and service. We went here for a company Christmas party and I was wowed. I think I had the best chicken breast I've ever had -- so tender and moist!
Every appetizer I tried I enjoyed, although I found the calamari quite tough. The desserts are all homemade. I tried a shortbread with dulce de leche (I forget the name) and it wasn't my personal favourite, but my husband's pecan pie was divine.
Most importantly, the service was fantastic. Our server was always ready at hand and eager to please.
Peruvian delights! Order the specials! Fresh fish. Original creations make the mouth water. Wait-staff is superb; friendliest in the city.
The Boulevard Cafe still has the glow. Warm atmousphere, good friendly service, wonderful food. The ceviche is excellent, skewered meats are moist and flavourful, fresh fish perfectly grilled. Tables are impossibly close together so be prepared to share conversations with neighbours - but with their fun and intellegent crowd you'll never want for new and interesting friends. The Boulevard is still the casual choice on Harbord.
I'd like to like the Boulevard Cafe more, but my experiencesthere have been mixed. There's loads of excellent soundingchoices on their menu, but I've found that many don't tasteas good as they read. I now stick to their shish kabobs(can't remember the proper name), which are consistent. The same can be said of the restaurant itself. I've sat outsideon their covered patio and it's been great, though a little toocrowded at times. Inside is much the same story, a little toocramped if the place is at capacity.
