After our usual Saturday morning routine in the Upper Village neighbourhood, it was time for lunch. As we were heading east on Eglinton, we spotted the Abbot and decided to give it a try. They were going to be having a private event, so the main dining room was not available, but there were a couple of booths for two in the bar area that were open. I would have to describe the booth as just a bit too snug for my liking.
The menu featured typical pub fare, but since this was a weekend lunch, we focused on the brunch selections. I opted for the Smoked Salmon Benedict. Creamy hollandaise, smokey salmon, salty capers, soft poached eggs. Proper ingredients, properly cooked, made for a nice bite with every forkful.
SWMBO chose from the chalkboard specials: Bacon Breakfast Poutine, with 2 Eggs Over Easy. She requested the eggs on the side, which was not a problem. Overall she liked her lunch, but she did think the Poutine could have had more bacon and more cheese curds.
To sum up: Good food, good service, small booths. :)
Great pub food. I am quite happy with the food service here. I had dinner here twice, and was very pleased with the quality of the food.
