This is one of my sisters top favourite restaurants. I honestly like it too. Simple Chinese cuisine that I absolutely love. If we ever want Chinese that is our 1st favourite go to restaurant!!!
I love all things dumplings. This place has great xlb because the wrapper is thin, the juice inside is hot and tasty, and the meat is cooked just right. The pan fried dumplings are also great and they have traditional cold dishes as well. All my Chinese relatives love eating here.
You can't go wrong coming to ding tai fun to eat. They got some yummy dumplings and they have this cold tofu dish that's so good it almost feels like you are eating meat.
They also have onion pancake which is delish!
This is the same place as the one in Markham. Food is excellent, especially if you like Shanghai Cuisine. I've been told the it's not authentic, but whatever I love it! Hot and Sour soup is great, cold jelly fish, fried pork dumplings is a classic Shanghai dish and I like better than Asian Legend. More tasty, less greasy and thinner dough. I haven't found a bad dish they make. It is my GO TO place for Shanghai food!
5 out of 5!!!!!
The namesake dish is very good; extremely thin skin filled with scalding hot soup and meaty center. The other dishes are not so good. They are subtle in flavour, which would be fine if they didn't taste under seasoned. Service is brisk.
Found this place online via comments from other toronto food bloggers. This restaurant is called "Xiao Long Bao" - in reference to the soup dumpling that explodes when you bit into it. Other foodies have noted that this restaurant is the sister restaurant of Ding Tai Fung (not to be confused with the famous restaurant chain in Taiwan - "Din Tai Fung").
Food:3.5/5
Service:4.5/5
Price: $10-20 per person
Atmosphere:
The decor of the restaurant is very clean and a lot of light with the use of mirrors on one side of the wall with a lot of natural light from the windows (2 sides of the restaurant). There are lots of small and large tables. There is a small waiting area with seats at the entrance. At the other end of the corner of the restaurant, there is an open display window where customers can view the kitchen staff making fresh dumpling dishes.

I was very excited to try this new restaurant..I was craving northern Chinese food for a while..Xiao long bao as I heard from others is a sister restaurant of the all so popular Ding tai fung...So I was very delighted to be able to finally try this local joint!..the xiao lung bao was bursting with soup and flavor...and the pot stickers were equally as good and had a crispy exterior!! All the dim sum was freshly made on the premise..you can take a peek through the open glass window where these yummy dim sum delights are created!! The double fried pork belly was very yummy...noodles with tendon was tender and tasty...I was very satisfied and happy I found a new place to eat Northern Chinese food when I have that sudden craving!!😄 ..Check out Xiao lung bao if you happen to be in the Scarborough area..you won't be disappointed!!
Xiao Long Bao小籠包 probably one of my favorite Shanghai Dim Sum.. But I love steamed Chives Dumplings and a lot of other Shanghainese dishes.
The menu reminded me of Ding Tai Fung in Markham and Xiao Long Bao is really the sister restaurant of DTF! I am just glad that finally they comes to their senses to open up another branch in Scarborough and have a new name, not trying to pretend to be something else...
The interior is really spacious and the tables are set far apart. There are quite a few tables for big groups!
We shared:
小籠包 ($5.99) Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings
韮菜蒸餃($5.99) Steamed Chive and Pork Dumplings
上海粗炒麵 ($10.99) Fried Shanghai-Style Noodle
元盅雞湯 ($6.50) Double Boiled Chicken Soup
Everything was tasty and we really enjoyed the friendly service.
The only reason it is not getting a 4 star is maybe the price point to portion. The Shanghai Noodle for $11 was just so small. The portion is half of what I would have get at other restaurants in the area at $9?!
I would be back when I have cravings for soup dumplings when I am in the area. I love the Steamed Chive and Pork Dumplings!
The restaurant is much bigger with plentiful seating and spaced out tables. The interior felt modern with an exposed ceiling, light wood flooring and lots of natural light from the full glass store front. There is a window into the kitchen where chefs prepare fresh baos but it’s situated at the back of the restaurant and only a few tables can actually see the action.
The first two dishes served were incorrect – the wrong meat with the noodles and two orders of the steamed dumplings when we only ordered one. But, the staff were apologetic and quickly rectified the situation so the small mishaps were negligible. You can’t come to Xiao Long Bao without ordering their namesake product - steamed pork soup dumplings ($5.99 for 6). It’s a skill testing dish as the wrapper needs to be translucent yet strong enough to hold the filling and its juices. Xiao Long Bao passed the test as the dumpling could be picked up wit
Tuesday was lunch at Xiang Long Bao which is so new, it's almost impossible to find anything about it online. Only two months old, it's the sister restaurant to Ding Tai Fung in Markham. Way out at Sheppard and Brimley, it's closer to the city and I think I might like the food even better. The soup dumplings were my favourite but they make a mean hot and sour soup as well.
One of the things that I like about Shanghai style dumplings is the dough. It is much heartier and sturdier than Cantonese style rice wrappers so they really stand up. The whole wheat flour dough has a really nice chewy quality that I enjoy and it's a nice change from our standard dim sum fare.
The restaurant is so new it's almost sterile but the food is good, service is good and it's a nice change from Cantonese
