Went here for my birthday. The pasta was average. Not bad but could be better. The ambiance is nice especially after a tiring round of shopping in Yorkdale Shopping Centre since it's within the mall. Their drink menu is better than their food which is nice. Our server was very polite and attentive as well. I would go back!
Came here with my boyfriend on a late Friday night to celebrate my birthday. Surprisingly, this place is not packed and we got seated right away. I love the venue, it has a rustic English / Italian feel with a modern twist. The front area has extremely high ceilings with big windows. If you're lucky enough to be seated in the front area, you'll be able to watch the sunset.
Delicious meal. Ingredients are Fresh, fresh and fresh!
Tomato bruschetta to start - perfection.
Genaro's Tagliatelle Bolognese for the main - freshest pasta I have ever had in North America and the closest to I have tasted since I was last in Italy. Orange Blossom polenta cake - light and tasty. Cappuccino- real deal! It seems the menu changes a lot - which is great.
The menu is well thought out with incredibly clever choices for wine. Highly recommend the Sauvignon Blanc, Ca'Bembo 2015 Friuli Italy - unique taste of Italian wine with some real depth.
One thing I did notice was that the food came out pretty fast - with a bit more thought I realised that maybe due to its location it is catering to shoppers who need a quick hit of food before going on their way.
Love the decor and vibe of this place, perfectly executed. The wait staff are professional and address the chefs as their proper titles. Our server knew the menu and made great recommendations. Calamari for an app was the right choice, sprinkled with chille peppers and a chille mayo, perfectly cooked and seasoned. We ordered the ravioli which was on a special and the meatball pepperdelle. Both which were delicious but very much on the salty side. Good size proportions, wish there was room for dessert! Families, girls night out..this place is perfect for any occassion.
After we were finished the appetizer, our mains arrived shortly. The Parma pizza was a classic Margherita pizza (crushed potatoes, basil, fior di latte, with extra virgin olive oil) topped with prosciutto, arugula, and Parmigiano Reggiano (hard, granular cheese). This was really, really good! The pizza was thin crust and it was so thin that when you held it up, it was like holding a cracker. The ingredients just melded together so well and it was really delicious. The prosciutto was really good — sliced thiny, too! I could have eaten another half of this pizza if there were more.😄

I have mixed feelings about our experience at Jamie's Italian. We were celebrating a Birthday, SWMBO is a Jamie Oliver fan, and I really wanted it to be a very nice dinner. We had made reservations for a Monday evening, but probably didn't need to, given how busy it was. However if you try to make reservations for a weekend, you have to make them many weeks in advance for abnormal dinner time. I had tried for weekend times before for a couple of other occasions.
We started out with drinks. I asked if they had any cider and was told that they did. A few minutes later our server came back and said it had been available during the summer, but was no longer available. Strike 1.
Then we ordered an appetizer that we would share. We thought the Spicy Meatball Bruschetta looked interesting. Sorry, but that was not available. Strike 2. Instead we chose the Deep Fried Ravioli. Nice little bites with ricotta inside, and a crispy pasta exterior, dusted with a little bit of cayenne (I think) for a touch of heat, along with a tangy marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
For our main dishes, SWMBO chose the Gennaro's Tagliatelle Bolognese. A hearty beef and pork sauce a generous pile of pasta. No complaints. I selected the Fresh Crab Spaghetti. It tasted good and was properly cooked, but for $22.95 I thought it was a bit light on the featured crab; maybe a heaping teaspoon full.
Then it was on to dessert, which we were going to share. We chose the Epic Chocolate Brownie. Sorry we don't have that tonight. Strike 3. Instead we chose the Tiramisu, which was a very nice second choice.
Our server was very pleasant during our service, and seemed genuinely sorry that we were choosing things that were not available. It was not her fault of course, but it did detract from the experience.
When the dust had settled the total tab for two of us was $90. Given what we had, I think it was a bit pricey. Would I go back? Not sure at this point.
A lovely Italian place with lots of vegetarian options. The ambience is different and staff is very humble. The restaurant is in the Yorkdale mall but the entrance is from the outside hence very convenient. The food was delicious and nothing complaining about. Would definitely recommend this place to checkout.
Sure the pre-split arancini ($8.50) was a little strange, but it did remind us that these risotto balls were stuffed with molten mozzarella and to proceed with caution. The crispy rice nuggets were hot and crispy, the creamy risotto inside not overly seasoned so the spicy arrabbiata marinara allowed to shine.
Although the polenta chips ($6.95) are marketed as a “side”, they also make for a great starter and nibbling on. The nuggets of silky polenta arrive with a crackling crust and topped with tons of rosemary and parmigiano reggiano. It’s salty and hot, just one more piece.
Remembering that Jamie’s pasta was good (just the accompany fingernail sized clams a dismal disappointment), I opted for their famous prawn linguine ($19.95 for main-sized portion). I can see why this is one of their top selling dishes: the fair-sized
This place does not take reservations because they know how popular they are! Came by at 7 PM on a Friday evening with a party of 6; wasn't seated until 45 min later. Despite the wait, the rest of my experience was quite pleasant. We had the most bomb-diggity waitress ever! Such a sweet gal and a cool person overall. I ordered the Porcini Fettuccini; it was tasty but not the best I've had. Was looking for a more fragrant mushroom flavour, and would've preferred more sauce with my pasta. I will say the Polenta Chips that came with my boyfriend's burger were awesome. Never had anything like it! Great texture from the polenta, and such a cheesy flavour. Overall a pretty decent dining experience.
Jamie Oliver is opening his first Jamie's Italian Restaurant opens in Toronto on Sunday December 6th, 2015 but I got a special preview tasting invite from my fellow Food Revolution Ambassador, friend Denise, owner of Petits Chefs Academy in Vaughan to join her and her staff for lunch at Jamie's Italian at Yorkdale Mall today. The restaurant is training it's staff this week and they have invited a few people to sample the food and give them feedback and get their staff used to the menu and the operations of the restaurant.
Situated in the busy area of King Street East, Serve Ping Pong is a space with 10,000 sq. ft. of entertainment and good eats. What once used to be the Hamilton Spectator Building, they have transformed the desolate space into a modern lounge fully equipped with brand spanking new ping pong tables, an eating area, a private room, and a beautiful bar. The hardwood floors, wooden pillars, decorative ceilings, and brick walls transport you back to simpler times. Once you step in, you’d be amazed at the amount of open space. It’s perfect for large parties and functions, plus it’s at a convenient location. The space is divided into dine/play and dine/drink. If you’re not interested in the intense sport of table tennis, their menu is worth checking out. Instead of going to the usual route and serving typical lounge and bar snacks, they’ve stepped it up with some creative effort!Read More »
Definitely had high hopes for this place- it is Jamie Oliver after all. Went with friends, we all got different dishes. The pork chops were delicious but their pastas were dishes anyone could make at home. They made one of our pastas extremely salty. The waiter did apologize and didn't charge us for it. He explained that all the dishes were made on the spot separately in different pans. So the chef adding an extra pinch of salt wasn't unlikely. Although the food was mediocre, the people there were really friendly. Overall, an average place to eat. Definitely wouldn't recommend it to a friend who's looking for great place to eat.
Jamie Oliver. I remember watching him for the first time on his Food Network's cooking show. Back then the show featured Oliver presenting home-style and easy recipes, with many ingredients grown organically from his home garden in Essex. I liked him instantly. Overtime I also loved his philosophy on food, which can be found through some of his shows like Jamie's Food Revolution to his Ted's Talk, "Teach Every Child About Food."
For his first restaurant in Canada at Yorkdale shopping mall center, Jamie Oliver partnered with King Street Food Company, known for Toronto's Bar Buca and Jacob Steakhouse and the restaurant has been attracting crowds since it first opened a month ago.
You’ve probably seen Jamie Oliver’s face on the Food Network, around the world, and all over Sobey’s Better Food to Canadians campaign. I remember the days when I’d watch his cooking show, Oliver’s Twist, where he would pump out incredibly simple dishes in a casual and laid back way. His kitchen on-set was fun and bright with bluish-purple walls and a collection of jars and containers for various spices, herbs, and dried goods. His personality was down-to-earth and it just seemed like he wanted to spread his knowledge about food with everyone.
