By far the best Greek restaurant I've been to. Pleasant service. Interior can be deceiving but well worth the visit! I found the price to be reasonable considering the amount of food you get.
Love this joint. Delish lamb chops, awesome faded pictures of Greece on the walls, totally family run.
Great authentic Greek. One of my favourite places to eat in Toronto. It's the epitome of 'hole in the wall' but that's what good food is. I always get the souvlaki and I'd recommend it to anyone in the area. The waitresses might not be the best but the owner and chef are always great and polite.
Shh... don't spread this secret... but this is the place the locals go!. Many people travel to the Danforth for greek food, and too often get tempted by the bigger, glitzy restaurants, paying extra money for worse food. My family and neighbourhood friends know when we say "let's get greek food" EXACTY where that means... Asteria!
It might be hard for some Torontonians to wrap their heads around this, but it is actually a mom-and-pop run restaurant. Is it fancy? No, but the things that count --food, service, pricing -- have no peer on the Danforth.
Best souvlaki pita!!!. I've never eaten in the restaurant, but I've ordered the Chicken Souvlaki pita many times for take out and it's the best in the city BY FAR!! huge chunks of white meat, fresh veg, great tzatziki and warm pita, ready in 10min. Totally recommend it!
My favourite "Souvlaki Restaurant". Just up the road there's a restaurant with a similar name. A few years ago, it went up-market (for the Yuppie crowd), poshed up, fired the great 'professional' male waiters, brought in a bunch of dolly birds in their place, and upped their menu prices by about 25%. It WAS our favourite restaurant, but after one visit to the new poshville, we switched to Asteria just down the road. They don't have delusions of grandeur, their prices are more reasonable, and their Souvlaki is the very best my wife and I and our friends have ever eaten, anywhere. We'll be going there this evening (my wife's birthday), which is why I came onto the WEB to check their phone number (to learn when they open because we aim to visit a cinema for 7pm - they don't take bookings). So take it from me, their Souvlaki (my favourite dish) is wonderful.
The best chicken souvlaki. Hey... it's not only the tastiest but the most generous... i always take a chunk out of my pita cuz it BURSTS out and then I take that last piece and douse it with tsaziki (sp?)... also the taramoslata is to die for...
My favourite greek spot in the world and I have been coming here for many years! Don't let the interior fool you. Yes, it a small hole in the wall but it houses some of the best greek food in the city. Also the portions are very generous and it is excellent value for your money. One honourable mention that is not featured in this post are the gyros (beef & pork mix). They are thick cut, juicy and extremely flavourful.
