New look with lot of new food items. Very friendly and efficient staff. Food is very warm not like other take out places. Briyani is awesome....will recommend this place.
Great take-out food, yummy to the tummy, great service, great pricing,.
Keep up the good work guys.
Amazing value. Great food. Very friendly service. Thank you.
The only Tamil take out you will find that is open early on weekdays. Love it
My all time favourite :)! Love from montreal!
Amazing place for sri lankan food. Lamb and chicken biryani was very good. Variety of biryani and naan available with lots of veg and non veg sides. Locally made Snacks and sweets also available.
I believe I have tried almost all dishes on their menu whether veg or non-veg and love most of them! Their combos, specially the breakfast combo, biryanis and various samosas are just brilliant. Do try their kothu roti- the beef one is my personal favorite. Their portions are great so do check before ordering a lot of stuff. We generally end up having left-overs for the next day!
This is a happening place during the lunch hour! I was recommended Babu's by a friend who suggested I try their Butter Chicken w/ Naan ($7). There is no seating so I ate off the hood of my car. Without a doubt, hands down the best butter chicken I have ever had AND you get a large piece of naan that is just as impressive. I can't wait to go back.
Good food but service needs to improve.. Food is good but the service needs to improve. Their prices are not shown anywhere so depending what you order your bill may be a shock.
... And Now For Something Inexpensive, Spicy And Different. E: Select restaurants satisfy one’s craving for a certain type of food. The rare establishment places one in the frame of mind for its food through sight, sound or smell. It is ironic that a small and dingy take-out place would act as the latter, but Babu did. The take-out shop offers customers North and South Indian meals, vegetarian choices, Indian pastries, Chinese fusion and Sri Lankan food with the emphasis being on the last category’s Thamil subset.
First my favourite of the day, Biriyani, which was a winner. The rice was flavourful and fragrant being replete with spices and vegetables. It looked good, but smelt even better. It tasted congruously. A whole boiled egg sat on top. The Shrimp Masala was rich and delicious. As the name indicates (‘masala’ meaning a spice mixture) the meal was spicy, but not intolerably so. It was agreeable and some of it went on top of my biriyani. There was not a whole lot of shrimp in it, but there were enough. They charge by the loaf for the naan. The naan was fresh and tasty. The Samosa looked deformed, but was delicious. At first they looked dry and unfilled, and to some extent they were so, but the triangles held up pretty well and had a particularly tasty crust. Whatever they mix into the crust keeps the samosas fresh and adds a hint of sweetness. A white onion sauce was slightly odd and overwhelmed by its onion content. On the other hand the traditional, or I should say prevalent, samosa sauce was absent. These were delicious. The chicken tikka was disappointing. They were probably a couple of hours old and did not harbour much taste. Now I know what they do not well. The order cost a relatively inexpensive $17.
The variety of food on display is large. Imagine a full restaurant’s menu behind glass and available in small, medium or large sizes.

A: Babu is located in the crummiest depths of the most suspect suburb that is Scarborough in the worst kind of eyesore of a commercial plaza. That should keep the rent and food costs low. It also keeps the visual pollution ratio high.
Inside is bereft of seats. Babu operates a take-out establishment with wall-to-wall displays of trays full of hot food at one end and pastries and appetizers at the other. Even towards the end of the lunch hour the queue of compatriots spans the entire length of the store almost finding its tail through the door and outside. This is likely a good indicator of quality, quantity, price or all three.
The menu boards are complemented by hand-written signs over the glass display. The overheard menus are grimy and faded.
A dozen employees shuttle food back and forth from the kitchen and pack for customers. It is busy, but kept orderly.
To be clear had I noticed a review below mentioning the word “cockroach” then this review would have been pre-empted. That is disgusting. I didn’t even look for the City of Toronto inspection sign. Shame on me.

T: The number of cars outside and individuals in queue for food inside looks intimidating, but the food is always ready it seems and the line-up shuffles along quickly.
The plaza is large and in-set so finding parking should not be difficult. The cashier moves fast, one is given his bundle of food and off one goes. They must go through hundreds of Styrofoam containers a day.
-
S: The employees are busy and rushed, but seem professional, calm and in control of things. They are abetted by the matter-of-fact serenity of the customers who evidently are accustomed to the lines and popularity of Babu.
The place needs a good wipe especially the cashier card pad. The sign outside tells only a partial story advertising “pure vegetarian.
Fast take out. Authentic Jaffa food.
Fast service.
I like mutton koththu roti, spicy though.
Lumprice - yummyy. I had the mutton lump rice, goat curry and veg curries mixed with white rice in a banana leaf and baked, wow! I would def give a bigg thumbs up! One of the best spots serving tamil food!
Delicious!. I've been here a few times already. I notice it is always full; there is a long line but that just means its good! it is definitely worth the wait. I get the lunch special..it is SO much food and its only 5 bucks!! All the items are delicious. Highly recommended
Like it.. It was good and spicy!
Little Jaffna's Gem. Fantastic south Asian cuisine hidden in an industrial setting. Forget the phony downtown imitators if you want real South Asian (Tamil) food at a real price head to Babu's. Extremely friendly staff, clean operation and great prices.
I stop by every time i'm in this part of town. I've been going there for years and it's the best ass scorching food there is. You will feel it going in and definitely will feel it on its way out. Super tasty too.
Fast and cheap but clean takeout joint Kotthu rotis and dosas are great choices
The best & cheap takeout place. Wow this the best and cheap takeout food place ... Also their timings are good . they are open till midnight and open early morning around 5am I guess ...
Addicted. We've gone to other Tamil take outs before, such as Poorani Vilaas on Steeles, while the food is good and cheap at Poorani, but it was just too spicy and bit too packed to take your time to see what you want.
We went to Babu's to try it out, and its simply amazing, for $7 with the briyani combo, you get enough food for 2 people, not to mention there's enough space for all the food for you to see and choose from, it also helps that the staff speak English is very helpful, the tandoori chicken to die for there, not to mention the salad, it was so good that I went back and bought the salad on its own.
for the non Tamil natives (like I and my wife), try the thali combo, its plain rice with tons of side curries to try, and order some tandoori chicken on the side, you'll walk away with enough food to feed 2 people like a king for less than $10.
How do they do it for that price??. Just take it from me a standard issue Canadian white guy who stood out like a sore thumb among the largely Sri Lankan immigrant clientele....but I learned one magic word from the smiling counter staff....Combo!!
That's right just say combo and into a generous sized container goes chicken biryani rice, mushroom curry and butter chicken for a whalloping $4.50 out the door! I will never eat fast food again, I am a Babu junkie!!! Normally Indian food is usually very pricy, if these guys keep this up and give this quality for the $$ you wont eat anywhere else...I'm talking flavour!!!! I frequent the Markham location which is clean and shiny new. Best food deal in the GTA no kidding, especially when you factor in the frequent diner card you can get right at the counter so you tenth lunch is free, (the only drawbacks, no dining in and kind of irregular counter service but they are always nice and who can complain for this $$?? I wouldnt change a thing, Best to go in off hours as they are lined up out the door at normal diner times.
Amazing food for a great price. Check out this hidden gem in Scarborough.
Very good Sri Lankan food. I love the Chili Chicken kotthu roti (roti hand-chopped and stir-fried), and also the milk hoppers, though it's almost like dessert (sweetened and loaded with coconut milk). It's a very busy restaurant hidden in an industrial-like plaza and it's takeout only, but the line moves quickly and the staff is friendly.
