By far the best London fog in Toronto! It is a great spot to grab some caffeine or quick snack. The ham and cheese croissant is yummy too.

Dark Horse is a lovely café in Chinatown on the east side of Spadina north of Queen, with a lovely grand space with big windows, large communal tables, friendly efficient staff, and of course great coffee and sweets.

Had a latte once, then came back again, and then came back again. They make a good cup of coffee that is strong and just the way I like it. Relaxed atmosphere in a great central location. Will be back next time I go to Toronto.

Always use to pass thru this overtly crowded cafe in Chinatown close to Queen street and Spadina intersection.. Finally tried it today.. Ordered a Cappuchino & French press (Dark roast)..
French Press:($3.66) they crush beans freshly and made press in an authentic way keeping for more than a minute.. Came out strong and flavorful
Cappuchino($3.50): was decent..
Tat was for pros.. Cons are:
1) Spoons kept at sugar-milk counter were stained even if they were washed..
2) We had taken coffee to be had in the cafe.. They have very small coffee Cups compared to other popular independent cafe in Downtown..
To sum up, good in flavor but price higher than proportion.. Which may make me think twice wen I wud want to go again

Coffee is way better than the larger café chains. Ambience is perfect for a café. Baristas are knowledgeable (read smart). And there's of course a price for that special coffee. I wouldn't go here too many times, only due to the cost factor. It's contradictory -but I would love to have their coffee again. And yes I didn't get a place to enjoy my flat white. It turned into a chilled flat white as I had to gulp it outdoors.

Love there ice brew coffee!!! I was new to the world of ice brew until trying it out at Dark Horse. Their espresso machine was down the last time I went so they were limited on their options but this was a great alternative.

I had previously had the iced mocha and would highly recommend this to chocolate lovers and people who like their coffee on the sweet side.

Dark Horse also has great work space vibes. Looks like the perfect place to set up with your lap top and get some work done.

They also sometimes give free samples (always a plus)

Outstanding coffee. You'd think they dust the beans with speed or MSG (or both). There is not a deeper, more flavourful, more intense Americano in this city, time and time again. I'm reminded of Terroni on Queen circa '98, and perhaps by no coincidence. The spoon practically stands up (before dissolving). Take some beans home and you become a certified fiend.

Different Flavours of Iced Tea? Yumm. For me the bar for coffee shops is Starbucks, although I do enjoy my double double at Tim Horton's. I wanted to try this place out to see if I was missing anything. This being my first time, I wasn't sure if their menu is as extensive as Starbucks, and I was to afraid to find out. At Starbucks you can order a coffee that is 10 words long. I didn't see that sort of stuff here, but of course the base coffee types are the same.

I got an americano (for the first time) on a recommendation and my wife got an iced mocha. I also got an iced tea and they are in my wheelhouse, but unfortunately there aren't any ice tea places in the city.

I can say that I enjoyed the americano. Very flavourful, full bodied, bold (these are some great words huh?) and as a friend put it "velvety". I did however really like the iced tea. There were two kinds ready to be poured, and some other ones I could have had steeped for me. I got the english breakfast because it was already steeped. This is the first place I know of that has different kinds of iced tea. My favourite iced teas are ones that are brewed without sugar, and then later put some liquid sugar in; none of this simulated lemon flavour bs. I chugged this iced tea down.

What impressed me the most is that they get their tea's from David's tea, which I'm guessing their selections will change over time.

The only thing I didn't like about the place was that there doesn't seem to be any structure. I don't even know if that's the right word, but the milk is in one place and the station to mix you coffee is in another. I didn't even realize that the milk was for our use, because its not actually at the coffee mixing station and is the same ones the baristas use.

I heart Darkhorse.. Their new location is beautiful and has tons of light.

You can't go wrong with their brownies or butter tarts. I also enjoy their loose-leaf tea. Can't comment on the coffee personally, but I've heard positive reviews.

I noticed this place when I was on my way to a restaurant in Chinatown for lunch because of their giant windows with the screen print, Dark horse Espresso Bar. I started drinking coffee more so recently (by coffee I mean Americano, mochas or lattes don't count!!) so I've been on the look out for a cool coffee spot other than Starbucks I can enjoy.

Walking out of Seven Lives, I was still not prepared to go home, I hanged out by Dark Horse Espresso bar, taking in another latte. As I enjoyed its indulgent froth, I thought I might be bouncing off the walls before bed but then another opportunity for a food trip might be in another few weeks, I decided to max it out. So coffee after 5pm it was. No regrets from this foodie...

Basically across the street from my delightful Super 8 Hotel in Chinatown/Kensignton Market, was one of three locations of a coffee shop called Dark Horse Espresso . My last morning in Toronto I finally headed over to check it our for my morning needs at 11 am, when it was full of arabiphiles. Local artwork adorned the walls. There was a twelve seat square table that seemed like it belonged more in a library than a coffee shop, in a good way, around which MacBook users plugged away. Scenes from the pastry case: I thought this "Hot Yoga Fund" tip jar was pretty funny. An upstairs section offered more lounging room, with some reclined seats and some 1-2 person desks. But it was still full up there, which is how I wound up sitting at a table with a man pitching a cartoon tv show series to another man. I somewhat awkwardly nommed away at my chèvre and herb scone: which was dense and sweet and tasted like a cream cheese and chive scone more than tangy goat cheese and other discernible herb

I have coffee breath. That said, a coffee junkie, I am not. Rather, I am content hanging out with the Earl. Earl Grey. In fact, I feel as though it must have been me who single handedly finished all the tea bags at Le Gourmand ’cause they were all out las

I love the atmosphere in here. Big share tables and the sun beating in through the windows. I got the iced caramel latté which was refreshing and the ham and cheese croissant sandwich which was buttery and tasty. Lastly I had their square version of a butter tart. I liked it a lot but I wish it had less raisins as I'm not the hugest fan of raisins.

Dark Horse Cafe on Spadina is a perfect place to have a nice coffee and work on your laptop. They have a large wood table, high-speed internet and a good working atmosphere. The coffee is always delicious and the staff is always friendly.

Love it!

Being on holiday here in Toronto I was recommended this espresso bar by a friend for it's amazing coffees. The ambiance in this branch was lovely and the customer service excellent. But most importantly the latte & flat white I tried were ridiculously smooth and delicious. I also had a cranberry & orange bite as well as a chocolate brownie on a separate occasion so can testify they are also yummy.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone! It is especially nice to sit in & chill, surf the internet or read some of the papers provided, and enjoy the atmosphere!

I loved having the americano at Dark Horse, rich and creamy (even if it really depended on who was making it). Pastries were very good as well. I use to have a raspberry muffin made of oatmeal and it was gigantic! I just couldn't stand the fact that they don't have plugs. I think none of them does. And this can make your visit to the coffee shop almost useless.
