I visited a couple of times, settling on their wine selection. The drinks were relatively cheap, and they had many of the standards. The food itself wasn't anything special, being more or less bar food. The staff are friendly and make their rounds despite the crowd. The ambiance is quaint and intimate. It's a good option for drinks around campus.
Gord and I had an early supper today at The Bedford Academy. We'd never been there before.
We sat inside where it was cooler.
Gord is a fan of mac 'n cheese and ordered the Baked Chorizo Macaroni & Cheese. He said it was really good and he'd get it again.
Chelsea, our server, said the burgers were good so I ordered a New York Style Burger (minus lettuce and onions) with bacon. It was a good burger. The patty was tasty and I could taste pepper. The bun was nice and soft. I'd get it again.
Chelsea was friendly and helpful. We'll be back!
Ate the fish and chips special. Nice two pieces with fries (although not many). Seeing that this is basically in yorkville I thought the food would be a bit higher end but it's very plain barfood. I love the L shaped patio and ambiance but service was mediocre (having to ask for water 3 times isn't ideal). They also were out of the Hopsta la Vista IPA twice in the last week.
I enjoyed my trips to The Bedford Academy, and I made several back when I was living down the street from it.
The food was quite good, as was the variety offered by the menu. The staff, though not the friendliest and most attentive, were definitely above average.
They also have a pretty nice patio when the temperature is right for it, and the fact that it's in a quaint neighbourhood helps too.
Came here on a Friday after work to meet up with a friend for some drinks. We tried the $3 "Appy Hour" menu, because who can pass up $3 apps? Not me, that's who. We got 3 apps - nachos, jalapeno popper and a samosa. All 3 were pretty good, and of course they are about the size you would expect to get for $3. No problem there since you can just sample a bunch of different apps and I love cute/tiny things.
The drinks and service were pretty good. I was drinking vodka bar limes and Long Island iced teas and they were definitely acceptable. The fact that the building is really old is pretty cool, too. Just watch out because finding the washroom when you're drunk is like navigating a labyrinth, it's down a set of stairs and through a door, down at the end of a long hallway..
But seriously though it's a cute place, I would go back.
This pub is a charming spot on a side street, away from the hustle and bustle. The patio is really great and worth a visit. The menu has many pub favourites....the fish and chips were very good!
Haven't had food here but a great pub for conversation and a laid back atmosphere. The decor is particularly interesting as it evoked the aesthetic of an old school library - late night philosophical conversations? You've found your place.
Great venue for a party!. We had my husband's birthday party in the Prince Arthur Room in May and it was such a great venue. Our guests all loved the space, which was perfectly suited to our crowd of 35-50. The bartender offered great service and every staff member we dealt with from the initial planning to the clean-up after our guests left was polite, helpful and friendly. We all had a great time and I am so happy that I chose the Bedford Academy for the party. Their great reputation is well-deserved.
Weekend Visit. Came here on a snowy Saturday night. Initially was sitting on the upper floor and had some issues paying my bill. Apparently there was no debit (although I found out later they have debit downstairs...) and the ATM was out of service. After dealing with what seemed like a few too many people, the overcomplicated situation was finally sorted out and we transfered to a table downstairs. The atmosphere there was quiet but nice and we had a charming blonde server who was very sweet and accomodating. A few in my party had meals which they enjoyed and I snacked on some pomme frites with chipotle mayo - delicious! Our server even offered us some "free soup" discount cards to come in try the new lunch menu. After some initial confusion, I had a very nice visit.
Perfect for Groups! Great food and Service!. I recently organized a surprise birthday party for a group of 17 people here. Right from the start, Tiffany (the event contact), was a huge help. Replying to my emails, and answering any questions I had. They have a long table that seats 20 - perfect for groups! We were able to order off the regular menu and the waiter was happy to accommodate separate bills, which many other restaurants won’t for a group that large.
The food is delicious. I had the butternut squash ravioli (again, delicious), and others raved about the Sunday night prime rib special.
The venue was perfect – cozy, casual and welcoming.
I truly recommend this restaurant, whether you go as a group or simply just with a friend or family member, you are guaranteed to receive great service with delicious pub food.
Great atmosphere and setting, very charming. Delicious mushroom pasta dish with leeks for the vegetarians out there!
Best pub. My favorite pub in TO.... great location and really nice in the summer! I will come back
Burgers. Awesome burgers, sweet potato fries to die for
Beer is good and service is better. Well worth a visit if you just want to go to the pub.
The service was very good, and I like the BYOW touch. We will probably try the Bedford again either in the summer on the patio, or on a brighter day, when we can see our dishes.
Simply put, a great pub. I've been here for afternoon meetings as well as dinners and parties. The food is what you'd expect and they have a nice selection of beer on tap, plus a better selection of wines than you'll find at your average pub. Most importantly, the staff really adds to the experience, they're incredibly friendly and accommodating: turning down the music or even changing it for customers upon request.
There's also a nice mix of patrons here, some graduate students and faculty from UofT mingle with business men and women from Yorkville.
Be sure to get a seat on the patio if the weather's fare. If you're with a larger group then you can sit at
one of the picnic tables at the back.
