We had a little snack at The Sweet Escape Patisserie at the Distillery District during our afternoon visit. Despite the name of the shop, we didn’t get anything sweet from this cafe on this visit. They had plenty of nice-looking cupcakes (with high sky frosting), cakes, macarons, cookies, and pastries on their front-facing counter. They also sell ice cream and lots of other dry goods.
This hardworking coffee shop conveniently located just opposite Bergo's is a very popular spot, (with ample table space in the interior hallway) serving sweets and savoury eats with good coffee.

Sweet!. Pastries and coffee were good. I got a cupcake. I think it was a cookies and creme with a cookie on top. Great place for a quick snack in the Distillery District.
Not just sweets. This evening my husband had a BBQ pork sandwich and I had a wild mushroom panini from here before catching a show at Soulpepper theater. Both sandwiches were excellent. The sweets look fantastic too. Friendly service and fair prices make this spot a winner in my opinion.
Homemade Delicousness. During our Honeymoon through Canada, I made it a point to sample as many cupcakes throughout our travels. Our sightseeing stop at the Distillery resulted in quite a nice surprise.
My husband and I enjoyed a chocolate cake, with a vanilla buttercream icing, and multicolored sprinkles. As pedestrian as this sounds, it was much more than that. The cake was moist and fresh, and the icing was in perfect proportion, iced perfectly, and left us with a happy smile on our faces. The icing was not the mouthful of sugar you sometimes experience with a normal buttercream, this was a meringue buttercream, which is creamy, light and super delicious.
The quaint location is just enough for the bakery, and even has a cool glass window into where the baker does her magic. It had a french patisserie feel, which is explained in their name - cute, airy and just enough - exactly like their cupcakes!
Service was helpful, and we were even served our cupcake on a plate with a fork.
If you are anywhere near this patisserie, I highly recommend a stop!
They sell sandwiches, cupcakes, cakes, cookies and other desserts with some vegan and gluten free options. They cater and do personal cakes. See website for more details on their services.
This pastry shop serves the best butter tart in Toronto, as I could taste their shortening which provides that rich undertone. Their butter tart has a wonderfully crisp shell, and they seasonally have ice cream sandwiches which typically incorporate exotic flavours such as lavender, cardamom and sea salt. They also make unique macarons that utilize such flavours even including matcha tea, earl grey tea and coffee espresso.
