This place has become our go to place for south Indian food near downtown. The food is excellent and quite authentic. I loved their chicken and mutton dosas. The service is good and prompt.
Thoroughly enjoyed their ghee roast masala dosa and the idli vada. Their sambhar is out of this world. Just miss having filter coffee here. That could be a great addition to the selection versus the coffee they serve right now.
Ambience is decent and service is quick.
An amazing south Indian right walking from Christie Station. It has amazing Idli, Vadas and Rasam. The dosa were alright not that bad bht good in taste. Coffee was amazing. Overall great experience. Service was a bit slow but enjoyed the food.

This is one of the few places that serves distinctly flavorful food. Veg biryani in coconut milk, hakka chinese fried rice, chettinad curry all have an original taste. In most Indian restaurants, there's a common sauce/ paste binding all the recipes. This place is quite decent, affordable, but there's no fancy lighting and furniture. Food is really worth the travel.
Thirst for pipping hot idli ended here😊. Small compact place with good South Indian food. Not very expensive and very accessible too as it's near to TTC Christie. We tried Idli , Mysore masala , butter milk and coffee. All was good in taste and enjoyed a bite.
Convenient downtown location for satisfying those south Indian cravings - you can get all your favourites here like dosa! The prices are higher than out in the suburbs but pretty good for the location. Get takeout and sit in the park for a nice summer evening meal
The Indian population in major North American cities have now reached such a level that new restaurants are opening up which offer people the chance to experience cuisines from different regions of India and not just the 'tikka masala' , 'naan', 'biryani' and other north Indian stuff that usually goes by the name of 'Indian food' in the west.
Madras Masala is one such restaurant which offers food from the South of India. The restaurant was full of Canadians when I went for dinner. So it is good to see that people in the west are starting to discover and appreciate the various regional cuisines of India.Â
This restaurant may have bought spices and flavours from Southern India to Toronto, but they have adopted American practice when it comes to portions. So the dosas they offer are truly MONSTROUS in size, more so for the paper masala dosa that I asked for. One dosa can be enough for a family of four. Needless to say I couldn't finish even half the dosa. The taste was nothing special but it was not bad either. The servers were courteous. The prices reasonable, considering the quantity they offer. A decent place overall.
For the one looking for a short summary, if you love dosas as much as I do (I'm South Indian, explains plenty) - this is the place to be.
Madras Masala brings to Toronto a good measure of the classic South Indian cuisine, a bit of an elite ambience(as per Indian standards) and a piece of home.
Forget about the other dishes they offer, they are quite decent (good when compared other offerings in Toronto) - cause the highlight of their menu is their dosas - and it deserves the praise. I've tried all of their varieties - though i must say the classic Dosas(the plain, masala and the ghee rava) is simply their best. If you're thinking of giving this place a shot, don't miss out on these.
The ambience isn't classic Indian but at the same time isn't too fancy either. Its good enough to be comfortable, and you won't be overwhelmed. The servers are very friendly, and they don't mind take you through the menu if you are a newbie.
The price isn't very light on the pockets, but I can assure you that the portion sizes are exceptional and any good meal in Toronto comes at a similar range.
I'd recommend this place, 100%! It won't disappoint.
One of the best South Indian joints in Toronto. Simply delicious dosas and uttapas. The pics clicked might water your mouth and are simply that good. Enjoyed the Special Madras Cafe, which has authentic aroma and taste. Will surely visit this place again. My belly is so happy...thank you guys!
The most authentic and delicious south Indian doses, I've ever had in my life! Definitely a must visit place in Toronto, if you're a foodie!
Had been to toronto last month and being a typical south indian loved this place. The huge dosa , rasam, sambar vada, tomato rice, sambar ..name it they nailed it...they even had the typical madras kothu parota which brought back memories ...over all a gud place with good food and very very competitive peice...love to go back :)

Madras (Chennai) is my home and i simply fell in love with the name Madras Masala :). The aroma of south Indian food is magical and I experienced it here. Chettinad biryani was mighty impressive and don't ever ignore the Raitha, it's yumm! Though this place is over crowded, too cramped and noisy, I will 100% go back..it's worth it.
Situated by the Christie park, this indian restaurant has a nice patio. The food is very good though the service can get better. They have a nice choice of dosas and biryanis. I would surely recommend this restaurant if you are craving for good indian food near downtown.
Delicious and unique dosas, something that I had never tried before. A good alternative to naan, and is crispier and lighter. Good patio too. The service was friendly and pleasant but slow and inconsistent, likely due to being understaffed. Great location next to Christie Pitts park.
Went to Madras Masala with friends. Must say they have best spread of Dosa , food was just great . We ordered variety of dosa and all were very good. Specifically to mention should try Ghee Masala dosa and Mysore cheese masala dosa. However service was bit slow , even payment after food. We tried to split bill they took around 30 minutes to settle bill.
We tried Spicy tea over there highly not recommended to have , tea was below average comparing price. Â I would highly recommended this place if you want to simply have good food and ready to compromise bit on service part.
A great place to finish the day. My second time visiting the restaurant and i must say it gets better everytime.
the service is absolutely the best ive ever had. the food is fantastic.
What a great find! Indian.... What a great find!
Indian food is not my first thought considering the area but the positive votes made me intrigued enough to give it a try
The weather was warm enough to enjoy the large patio. The service was great with absolutely no issues
Must try: any dosa. I had the cilantro dosa and it was not only huge but absolutely delicious too. The chilli paratha was equally great.
Leftovers galore..means I can continue my great dining experience. Can wait to go back!!
Pretty darn good. Pleasantly surprise by the restaurant and the wide variety on the menu! Good sized portions, not too much oil in their food. Flavourful and tasty. Special kudos to them for making an extra effort to deliver food outside of their delivery times.
Best mutton biryani - they know how to make biryani unlike other restaurants. Many restaurants in Toronto can't make good biryani. Madras Masala has the best chettinaad biryani. Extremely flavourful, and they customize it to make it spicy if you want it to be spicy. They know how to cook the mutton till it's tender.
I have made the mistake of getting biryani from substandard restaurants like Indus Tavern, and I'm here to tell you that if you're downtown, stick to Madras Masala for biryani!
Biased. Full disclosure, I'm biased: I have a crush on the waiter.
But waiter aside, this is real, amazing South Indian food. If you don't like it hot, request it mild. Patio was a bit messy last time I was there, but usually it's decently clean, with good service. I was disappointed with the pakoras, though. Not crispy at all.
I've tried Banjara next door, and their food is also good, but much pricier.
Awesome south indian food!!. Wasn't too impressed with the service at first, especially since they only had one server, but the food was delicious and made up for everything! Some of the best I've had to date, especially for the price
This neighborhood is so lucky to have one of the best authentic South Indian restaurants I've ever experienced. Located right on the edge of Christie pits park with a Licensed patio out front. This family run business serves up the best homemade chicken currie ever. I also order the cilantro/mint rice, and like to try a different dosa as an appetizer. Very friendly, affordable and delicious. I give 5 stars.
I leave the menu completely in Riya’s capable and knowledgeable hands all I ask is that she order up a feast and that is exactly what she does. We start off with Thool Baji aka vegetable and chick pea fritters followed by Chili Paneer and Hyderabad Dum Biryani . The chili Paneer is awesome, a hybrid of Chinese and Indian cuisines, it’s very sweet & spicy. The Biryani is a perfect blend of...
