The food (Portuguese) is good. The Restaurant on College, is a Nofrills place but, with a very good vibe. Portions are enough, the service good and the prices very fair. During Summer, the outside patio is the best place to go and eat the famous "grilled sardines"! We really love Bairrada!

The flaming sausage was not only entertaining to watch - it was delicious to taste!! The freshness of the bread on the table, combined with the taste of my chicken meal was perfectly complemented by my sangria. I couldn't have asked for a better meal. The beautiful patio made my first experience at Bairrada restaurant definitely never to be my last.

This place has a great backyard patio! For the food you need to know what to order. This place is all seafood and chicken. Don't bother with the beef or pork options. Seafood platter is off the hook.

“We couldn't resist the urge to stand up and walk around a bit. Their waterfall, little bridge and trellis scene were poetic - a little oasis in the city.”
"Our waiter, Jerry, had a charming Portuguese accent and was very enthusiastic about all the dishes. He made a fun presentation for the Chourico a Bombeiro, as they set a few sausages on fire and cut them for us."
“Finally, for dessert we had their Nata do Cei - cream from heaven. It came topped with some cinnamon and looked like rice pudding to the naked eye. The angelic taste was present - smooth, with areas of grainy sense of breadiness, it was light and pleasant to the palate.”
Just a few bites from our full experience..

After visiting Bairrada, I feel like I can call this place home. Their humble and friendly staff make every visit exceptional. We had the pleasure of enjoying a meal at a #ZomatoMeetup at Bairrada on an August evening on their gorgeous hidden patio.
We started with a Summer Red Sangria with a perfect balance of alcohol and fruits. We had a chance to sample the roast pig on the spit and the crispy skin was salty and delicious. It paired very well with their traditional Portuguese cheese Queijo Fresco which was light, fluffy yet flavourful. It also came with a side of olives, roast peppers and pimento paste. Then we indulged in fresh Grilled Calamari with virgin olive oil. What happened next was exciting, a long Sausage on little ceramic piggy's set on fire and smoked to perfection. Very flavourful sausage with a fun presentation!

Then came the goooooood stuff... Shrimp, Sardines, Chicken and Steak (there was a ridiculous amount of deliciousness). The Tiger Shrimp was served in a delicious broth with garlic, herbs and spices in it's skin and ready for us to get our hands messy. Grilled Sardines was a fun one and with the help of our awesome server Jerry we are learned how to eat it properly. Their famous BBQ Chicken (Frango no Churrasco) came was grilled but still moist and full of flavour, with a side of potatoes and pickled cauliflower. The House Stake was topped with an overeasy egg, yummy chip fries and smothered in house gravy. Just delicious.

It's hard to believe we had space for dessert but oh my god I'm so glad we did. We finished off this amazing meal with Nata De Ceu ('Cream of heaven') one of the best desserts I've ever tried. Crushed cookie crumble on the bottom and a rich, fluffy egg based cream on top with sprinkled cinnamon. Unreal.

I will be a frequent visiter at Bairrada and can't wait to return!

Came here for a backyard party and some great Portuguese cuisine! There was a little bit of everything from the sangria with fresh fruit, to suckling pig, fresh cheese, grilled calamari and flaming sausages. It was a right feast, so feast we did! Jerry, our server, was super knowledgable and explained everything to us from the way the food was prepared to the reasons why they are served in certain pottery dishes. The bounty included a light cucumber onion tomato salad, garlicky prawns, massive sardines (trying to fillet these sardines was quite the experience- I recommend getting a pro to show you), tasty yellow rice, BBQ chicken and potatoes. And if that's not enough there was also steak and egg with Portuguese chips called palla palla. Dessert was some kind of cream custard that was heaven and not to be missed. It's called nato do ceu and I think it literally translated to something from heaven! If you're looking for a fun date night and a new experience. Check this place out. It's a family run establishment :) Pardis Parhizgar, Pam Westwater Sarah M Genevieve.iezzoni Derek Vieira

I had passed by it many times but did’t realize that there was a huge beautiful patio out back. There was even a nice waterfall area for photos. As we waited for everyone to arrive, we were treated to sangria and roast suckling pig that you could see spinning out back. The crispy skin was the best part. Little did we know, there was plenty to eat throughout the night.

Yesterday, Zomato invited me to a meetup at Bairrada Churrasqueira near College & Dufferin.

I had passed by it many times but did't realize that there was a huge beautiful patio out back.

There was even a nice waterfall area for photos.

As we waited for everyone to arrive, we were treated to sangria and roast suckling pig that you could see spinning out back. The crispy skin was the best part. Little did we know, there was plenty to eat throughout the night.

I gorged on this delicious Queijo Fresco, which is a light and fluffy Portugese cheese. It is very mild which is why it pairs well with olives, red peppers or the addictive hot sauce (which I ate with almost all the dishes).

Lula Grelhadas (grilled Calimari) was fresh and had a beautiful touch of olive oil.

The Chouriço à Bombeiro (flaming sausage) were served in adorable pig bowls. The flames made the outside of the sausage nice and crispy.

To balance out the meat we had Tomate e Pepino (tomato and cucumber salad) and a side of rice!

Now back to the meat. From this point on in the meal, we were given individual plates. It started with two Gambas à la Plancha, tiger shrimp grilled in Heineken with a lemon and butter sauce underneath.

The strangest dish of the night was probably the Sardinhas, grilled sea-salted sardines. Our server Jerry showed me how to fillet them. I did a really terrible job but I managed to not eat too many bones and found the fish to be quite delicious! Sardines aren't always everyone's favourite but Bairrada did a good job infusing flavour and cutting away the fishiness.

At this point in the meal, I was so full but out came their famous Frango no Churrasco, the BBQ chicken! It was moist and tender. The potatoes were perfectly salted and I enjoyed the pieces of pickled cauliflower I found on my plate.

That was followed by Bife à Casa, an aged house steak with a fried egg and chip fries. Apparently this was 1/4 of the portion you get normally! What the hell! It was like a meal in itself. The gravy was to die for and the chips I just couldn't stop eating (until they were gone).

Before dessert, the owners came out and treated us to some Rainha Santa port wine. It had a lovely sweetness that reminded me of Japanese plum wine.

The best part of the meal was saved for last. For dessert we were served Nata Do Ceu. It was a heavenly mix of whipped vanilla cream, cookie crumble, egg, cinnamon and magic. It was like eating a cloud. I would come back for this dessert alone!

We were also given a parting gift of a custard tart.

I had a lovely time last night at Bairrada with the other bloggers and the Zomato team! The restaurant is a walking distance away from my apartment so I will definitely be back soon.

This meal was courtesy of Bairrada.

Wednesday evening a group of us attended an end of the summer patio party at Bairrada Churrasqueira, which serves Portuguese cuisine.
We were greeted with pitchers of sangria. Yum!  We were served a bit of everything ... suckling pig, Portuguese fresh cheese, calamari, Flaming sausage, tomatoes and cucumbers, shrimp, rice, sardines, BBQed chicken and potatoes, steak and egg and Heavenly Creame.    They have a really awesome patio!   It was a fun night and great to try so many Portuguese dishes!

I've been to 3 different locations for this restaurant, and not once have I been disappointed! I decided to pick up some take out today after working at the CNE, and once again I am elated at the quality, price and quantity of food from here. This is quickly becoming my go-to special occasion restaurant!

A beautiful patio , great food and a wonderful atmosphere is what sums up Bairrada. Try the flaming sausage; highly recommend. The home made peri peri sauce is excellent : got to know that this was made of 18 ingredients and and the recipe remains a well guarded secret. I will keep coming back here and I would recommend this for a great evening of patio dining.

Portuguese BBQ has always been one of my favourite meals. It's healthy, tasty, and usually extremely easy on the pocketbook. Bairrada on College is always my choice when I want a sit-down meal. Alex on Ossington (my #1 fav) is only take-out.
Bairrada also boasts one of the nicest patios in the city. They've got this massive old tree in the middle of the yard and a small play area for children ( or at least that's who's always down in that area). In the summer, they BBQ whole suckling pigs on their patio and have been known to give out free tasty samples.
Their BBQ chicken is always tender and moist. In my opinion, they have the best Piri Piri sauce. It's the perfect combination of spicy and sweet. I always go through a whole bowl of it everytime I'm there. I don't mind their potatoes (Alex's are better) but I do find their vegetables quite bland. The rice is flavourful and better than Alex's. They also have 3 options of salad if you choose: Mixed Green, Caesar, and Cucumber and Tomato. Most places only have a choice of one salad.
This time we ordered the mussels as an app and it was delicious. The mussels were super fresh, the tomato-based sauce had the perfect amount of tanginess, tart, and spice. And the portion was quite healthy as well.
Lastly, one of my favourite soups has always been the Caldo Verde and this place does it right. Not too thick but perfectly smooth and silky.
Warning, not all Bairrada locations are made equal. I don't find the food to be the same quality at the Dundas St W location. However, I highly recommend you give the College St one a try!

Good and cheap. The food and atmosphere are great. The backyard patio is beautiful makes you feel your in Europe. The prices are very cheap for what you get. The only recommendation is stay away from items like the roasted pork. Cooked earlier in the day and is never fresh. Seafood or chicken is the way to go.

Addictively delicious and affordable. Held a surprise birthday dinner for my boyfriend here and I couldn't have chosen a better locale. Picnic table set-up on their GORGEOUS (massive and tree-canopied) patio is perfect for big parties. Feels like you're in your own backyard, except that you can relax and be served rather than worry about making everyone else happy. Chicken, rice and potatoes (do it authentically; don't get the fries) are so delicious and cheap at $8.50 for a small and two dollars more for the large. Server was friendly and upbeat, met all the needs of a group of fifteen AND let us pay separately. Highly recommended for a casual but special night out!

Laid back and affordable. It does not look like much off the street, but this place has a massigve pation and a lovely garden at the back. Sit at the picnic table under the canopy of old trees and enjoy observing sparrows picking scraps off the patio floor. They might even join you for dinner. This place offers generous portions of hearty staples. Try the steak - melts in your mouth. Or get half a rabbit with potaties and broccoli. One note on the appetizer though: fried and crispy calamari get soggy if you put them on the same plate as soft cheese and roaster red peppers.

Huge portions, cheap. I've been here twice. The patio is enormous and beautiful. Nice service. Huge portions for very cheap. Sometimes the meat is cooked a little too much but it's still quite good. Great place for a big group or a hungry man!

If you like Nando's, don't eat here. The reason why you should never eat at Bairrada Churrasqueria if you like Nando's is because the grilled chicken at Bairrada is what Nando's WANTS to be. And after eating the superb charred chicky chunks at Bairrada, anything else is gonna taste like day-old KFC in comparison. You won't want to go back to Nando's ever again.

Man is that some great chicken! Black in places on the outside, but not so burnt as to ruin the taste. Cooked all the way through -- something that I have a hard time achieving when I do chicken on the barbie at home -- but not too dry. I suppose they could have thrown some more piri-piri sauce on the outside, but there was enough to spice up the meat.

When in an ethnic joint, I always order foods from that culture that I can't find elsewhere. The night I stopped in, it was sopa do grello, a pinkish bean soup with rapini greens (kinda like kale) in it. A tasty bowl for $3.50. Not everything was great. The rice under the chicken was bland, there was no spiciness to the batter on the fried calamari, and Bairrada does these translucent Timbit-sized potatoes that are boiled and ALSO deep-fried. They look like they're going to be all fulla greasy goodness, but they're sorta bland instead.

As for the service, they're going to wait on you, not rub your neck and offer to be your BFF. I came in alone, no reservation, and asked if I could get a table on the patio, since it was a nice night. The guy at the counter -- I think it was the owner, because he was the only one dealing with the phone and incoming customers, told me that I could go back and ask other parties of diners if I could sit in with them. I'm not European enough to be comfortable with that, so I stomped out of Bairrada disappointed. He didn't say "But you're welcome to dine inside." Then I figured "I walked a long way to get here, and it looks like an interesting place to eat." So I walked back in, waited a long time for the owner to reappear (while the phone rang unanswered until the caller apparently gave up) and got one of the empty table on the inside. The waiters were rushing like chickens with their beaks on fire, not making small talk (except with this one family speaking Portugese) but I go to restaurants for food, not group therapy. If that will hurt your tender little feelings, go to Nando's. That'll leave more chicken for people like me.

Awesome Patio in the back, great for summer. Nice staff cooking staff that look like they're always working hard. BBQ Chicken with piri piri sauce and green collard soup is my favorite. Only downfall is they don't accept debit.

Tasty. The food here is fantastic. The servers less so. We weren't made to feel welcome and weren't 'looked after' much, but other than that we had a great night.

Several in my party ordered the BBQ chicken and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the hosue steak, which was tender and tasty. The accompaniments were a little average.

I would go back, especially in summer, as the courtyard in the back looks beautiful.

A must!. Everytime I'm in Toronto..this place is a must!!!! Setting is very laid back and casual. Outdoor patio is in the back, very private and relaxing. Food is always plentiful and delicious. I have yet to order something on this menu that doesn't amaze me. I will always make this a Toronto stop for me and I hope that they continue to do great work...and make the Portguese of this town prowd!

During summer they have a huge and very nice patio. You better get there on time if you made a reservation because they will scold you if you are 5 minutes late. Food is amazing when the restaurant is busy and average on quiet days. Still great recommendation for authentic portuguese food.

If you are you looking for a casual, laid-back place for Portuguese food, then Bairrada is the place for you. The service is slow and a bit inattentive, but the food and backyard patio make it worthwhile. The portions are plentiful, yet your final bill will be slim.

Frango no Churrasco (BBQ Chicken) My only exposure to Portugese food growing up was when the chain Nando's opened up near my house. With all due respect to Nando's, that place ain't got nothing on Bairrada . I don't know why I've never visited Little Portugal in Toronto before. Maybe it was my over-reliance on Little Italy, or maybe it was for lack of purpose. All I can say is that there is a wonderful neighbourhood (just a few street car stops over) that everyone in this city should make time to visit.
