In search of Indian food in Toronto? This is the bestest place for Indian food. As I'm indian I found this place perfect for spice lovers. A true Indian taste they have maintained. Visit this place if you miss Indian food. Great ambience as well.

I actually loved chat papri and samosas from this place
Potato roti, chana roti etc. is a kind of a new thing to me.
Tried it and loved it!!!
Ambience is not that great but you can't expect everything at the given price point of food

You can’t beat this place for takeout roti. Have had the butter chicken and eggplant rotis, and they are both absolutely perfect. Amazing value also, a roti is definitely sufficient as a meal with no side or app.

This place makes a pretty good roti and for the most part lives up to the expectation. Spice levels are closer to authentic with even the mild curry being spicy. I tried the chicken korma. I found the ratio of roti/curry/meat to be good and the flavors were nice and strong. I also tried the samosa and pakora but was less impressed. The samosa was made with shredded potato which gave it an odd texture inside and the pakora was just too rubbery and greasy. Both were also so spicy so I could not quite taste them as much. Also we were about to eat in but we changed it to take out due to the incredibly strong smell inside, very poor ventilation and it only took 5 minutes of standing inside and our clothes absorb all the smells. Finally I find their pricing a bit high for such a hole in the wall, $14 for a roti!

This roti is my favourite in Toronto - the roti is so soft and the flavours of the curry are so authentic, it's like eating at your friend's house. There are separate vegan and vegetarian sections, pretty amazing! The butter chicken is super popular too and we overheard half a dozen people ordering that whilst we had dinner. Skip the snacks which are not as tasty once warmed in the microwave, but enjoy one of their iced teas or lassis

I love this place. The butter chicken roti is a weekly treat at our house. The place is pretty rustic but they're quick with the orders and the food is delicious

Really really yummy!!! But all I have to say is that for being more of a takeout joint it's a bit pricey ..$20 for veg curry, dessert & a pop.. But oh so good!!!

I've had Gandhi's stuffed roti's countless times over the years, and now that I no longer live in the city I still find myself craving them.

This is the place to come for mash-up roti, classic Indian flavours but served in a huge stuffed roti (think Caribbean style).

Excellent take out roti. Excellent take out venue for roti. No room to eat inside
Portions are huge and food is moderately priced. Paid $12 for lamb roti

Simple, but GREAT.. Delicious butter chicken wrapped in roti. It's pretty simple, but Ghandi's makes it great. Tender butter chicken, with amazing flavour is satisfying enough, but add a crunchy bread and provide it in a huge portion and you've captured magic for the palate. While I'm sure the other rotis on the menu are good, it'll be difficult for me to stray away from this dish when I return.

For over $10, I feel like I got my money's worth with this dish. I was actually stuffed!

For such a small place, Ghandi's is a nice hidden treasure. There may not be many tables to eat at, but the roti is easy to take away and eat on your own. If you like Indian food, make Ghandi's a stop when in Toronto.

First time here, got the butter chicken wrapped in a roti (it's phulka style from northern India). It was awesome, will definitely make the effort to back. It's kinda pricey but worth it.

Amazing Healthy Indian Food. I normally don't write reviews but this place blew my mind. The issue I find with most Indian restaurants is the food is great but it doesn't taste healthy and you can feel all the oil in the food. However with this place it's as good as my mom's cooking and that's not a phrase I throw around lightly. If you're craving healthy delicious indian food this is the place for you.

Best Roti in Toronto. Love it. I usually get the curry chicken roti and it is always amazing. I always get medium cause I like it really spicy. Anything more spicy than that might actually kill you.

The only thing is I don't think they actually measure the spice. One week medium is just right and the next it can be too spicy.

I wish they would bring back mild/medium

I've only tried the chicken roti, but it's the best ive tasted other than my moms cooking of course. It's delicious, tasty so many spices and herbs used, juicy chicken filled with flavor and if you can handle spice try the hottest one there is. Of course you do risk burning your entire mouth off with the amount of pepper. As I write this I'm craving some ghandi's that how good it is!!

Craving for Gandhi. I must confess...every month or so I get cravings for Gandhi's roti! The butter chicken is my favourite. My colleagues and I usually call a head on a Friday morning, around 11am, to find that we are already order #20-something and that our order will be ready for pick up in about an hour! But...it's all worth it.

One of my top 5 roti joints.

Get the lamb vindaloo roti for big flavor.

Watch out for hot sauce. If you normally go hot, try their medium first (because you'll be back)

Worth checking out. I've been on a roti kick lately, so when several friends mentioned Gandhi's Cuisine in the same week, I knew I had to check it out.

As an appetizer I tried an onion pakora. It looked like it might have been sitting behind the counter all day, and my inability to cut through it with either fork or knife bore this out. What little bits I could chew tasted right, but unfortunately most was left on the plate.

I decided I ought to try their speciality, the butter chicken roti. As other reviewers mentioned, the portion is big. Big enough for a lesser glutton to share with a friend, or save for later. Big enough for a $12 pricetag? I'm not sure.

Temperature: I asked for medium, and there was just a hint of spice. If you enjoy some pep in your curries, I would recommend trying a higher octane.

The filling had less tomato and less coconut than the butter chicken I'm used to in other restaurants. This isn't to say it wasn't tasty. While the flavour wasn't as exciting as I'd expected - from all the praise I'd heard - I thouroughly enjoyed every bite, from first to last.

As has been mentioned before, the roti (bread) are made fresh on the premises. Don't expect the rich, oily roti of the West Indies; This is East Indian roti, which is more simple, a bit drier, but, I think, more appropriately paired with the Eastern curry filling.

I'm a bit torn... If I were in the mood for excellent curry, I think I'd visit one of my Indian favorites - like Bombay Bhel in Mississauga - and if I were craving real roti, I'd hit up Island Foods in Parkdale... But next time I have some cash burning a hole through my pocket, I'll be back!

Best roti in the city. With portions the size of rugby balls, Gandhi's is always a good and bad idea. Good because it's the best roti in the city (my favourite is the chana). Bad because after you've finished eating one (if you can make it that far) you'll wish you were dead! I'm hardly ever as full as I am after eating from here, but in the end it's worth it.

I love and hate you Gandhi. This is my favourite spot EVER. However, i can not eat here anymore. I got fat (ok not fat but minor wieght gain). no word of a lie. i loved it so much, but now i've simply had to cut it right out. i live 2 mintues from here, but haven't eaten there in 6 months. I call their Rotis, Roti Pie, it's huge and SO GOOD. i love you Gandhi. Plus you know a place is good when they don't even have to be open on the weekends. It would be rammed all weekend long if it was open, but they choose not to. Must be nice. Kisses to you Gandhi xo

Been going for years. Prices have almost doubled in the past 10 or 11 years, but the portions have remained huge and quality is great. I agree with others that one roti should feed 2 regular appetites, so with that in mind, the price is not that bad. Their medium spice is very hot. Their hot spice is deadly. Their extra hot...RIP.

Do not go here if you dislike the following: - Large portions - Delicious flavor - Roti and/or Indian food - Innovative cuisine - Awesome heat retaining, durable takeout containers - Delicate, but spicy spices - Ultimate satisfaction

West Meets East Indian.. After reading various reviews on different websites, I decided to try out Gandhi while I was in the area.

I was prepared for the lack of atmosphere, the HUGE portions, a wait time, and relatively high prices. SO...I decided to share a mutter paneer roti with a vegetarian friend!

Primarily, Gandhi is a take-out place, so I wasn't surprised to see that there were only 5 small tables with some strangers sharing a table due to the lack of space. (Luckily, I had visited during an off-hour.) While waiting 'n eating, I witness countless people who just came to pick up their orders.

(Calling ahead of time, especially during meal time, was suggested as there is prep time involved in the rotis.)

The cost, I thought, was a bit on the high side. $3.95 for a mango lassi? Usually, I expect $2.50. And if I hadn't split a roti, I would've found it even more expensive.

HOWEVER, I was quite impressed with the flavour of the piping hot stuffing of the roti. My vegetarian friend, who is Indian, confirmed it to be "authentic". In addition, the sauce had a nice kick to it which I liked!

Unless you want leftovers, I would recommend that you share a roti. I did spot some guys who had an empty aluminum tray all to themselves, so it's possible to eat it all.

If I'm ever in the area, I'd definitely visit again...and bring my appetite!

So tasty.... This is hands down the best roti place in Toronto. The lamb roti is definitely my favourite, though many of my friends prefer the butter chicken one (personally I find it very salty).

The portions are HUGE, and sometimes I struggle to finish the entire thing.

One tip: call ahead as it can take a decent amount of time for them to prepare your meal. The actual restaurant is tiny and very warm in the summer so it is not enjoyable to actually eat there - much better for take out! Alternatively, if you don't call ahead, walk west down the street to the wine rack and pick up a bottle of the inniskillin cab franc - i have found it pairs (in an odd way, but really well) with the lamb roti. A great take out dinner!

Also, I really enjoy spicy food, but be warned that their definition of spicy is really... spicy. I order spicy, but on occasion I have found it so spicy it is not enjoyable to eat.... as in that the next day you stomach will punish you for being too cocky and thinking you can handle gandhi's spicy.

By far one of my fav roti haunts. Can't get enough of the butter chicken roti. Words of advice: eat half and save the rest for the next day; they are closed on the weekends; pre order and pick it up; get it mild; get the samosas.

Awesome butter chicken roti. Gandhi's butter chicken roti must be tasted to be believed. It is massive and delicious. For lovers of spicy foods, you can request your roti "extra hot". You'll get a bit of a final-answer look from the girl at the counter, and for good reason: the extra-hot roti here is unbelievably spicy, so beware. Those with tamer taste buds can order their roti at whatever spicy level they like. Nothing'll warm you up on a cold day like a spicy roti, though!

Wow. At first most are gonna be worried bout the cost, but when you see the size and feel the weight of what you are getting...another question of how good or the quality will come up. Then after you take your first bite, you will know what time it is....the butter chick roti is awesome, the spinach and potato roti is wicked. I plan to share my experience with a lot of my close friends and family.

Be prepared to wait but it is worth it. ...Gandhi serves up some of the best Roti in all of Toronto. I’d always thought that Roti’s were Caribbean in origin but I’m wrong, they actually originated in South Asia and are widely consumed in India , Pakistan , Nepal , Sri Lanka and Bangladesh...Samosas, Rotis and a couple of beers, sounds pretty yummy to me.

I am not an Indian food expert, nor have I had the chance to try many places in the city that specialize in this cuisine. However, what I do know about is a good meal when I taste it, coupled with praise from fellow co-workers, bloggers and review sites. And Gandhi is just one of those places. Known in the city as the "best roti" in town , Gandhi serves enormous amount of roti orders to the Queen west crowds. With a pre-order time of approximately 30 mins and a pick-up wait time of about 10, my colleagues and I enjoy our $8.00 rotis like its nobody's business. Most of us finish the whole take-out tray in one seating, hoping not to pass out at work afterwards; others opt to share it, while others save some to take home for dinner. So what is it about their Roti that makes us all come back for more and crave on

as long as you derive inner help and comfort from anything, keep it. :Queen West: I find comfort in roti, and Ghandi's is the best in Toronto. It's a bold statement, but I stick to it. I should say, however, that I almost never eat in the restaurant - one because it only fits a handful of people, and two, because I don't think curry will be bringing anybody to my yard anytime soon. Ha. Seriously, t here are some foods that can really stink up your clothes - Korean barbecue and Indian food are the worst -and this East Indian roti shop is no exception. Take-out is your friend. The menu has a wide range of varieties from saag paneer (spinach) to butter chicken, all of which taste amazing. How do I know that? I've tried every single one. Cross my heart. A word to the wise: while my spice tolerance is off the charts, Ghandi's will bring me to my knees. For some reason I can't take it. So I settle for a mild-medium roti ride to bliss. There is bad news: It's not open on weekends. Posted by G

My comparison to this Roti joint would have to be Island Foods - they do traditional West Indian roti with curry.

Ghandi, to my surprise and for the first time experiencing it - uses I believe a tomato base.  I had a lamb roti while I was here - verdict?  Goodbye Island Foods!

But seriously its totally up to personal preference - just that I found almost everything excellent: the roti shell was nice and stretchy/chewy, not dry or powdery - it just tastes right (they also make their own roti, as seen in the back while I was there).  The lamb was tender, no sinew or rubbery bits, no bones, just tender lamb - and finally the sauce - just the right amount added for the serving (though my wife begs to differ).

All in all I would say I'd come back here before coming back to Island Foods (still a great eatery for roti - I just need to explore this East Indian take on roti for a while).

Definitely my favourite roti in the city. My must order is the butter chicken roti. I get it mild and add the hot sauce on my own. If you order medium be prepared for some heat and if you can REALLY handle spice then go for the hot. Always busy so I suggest ordering ahead of time.

Let’s be honest. I am not an Indian food expert, nor have I had the chance to try many places in the city that specialize in this cuisine. However, what I do know about is a good meal when I taste it, coupled with praise from fellow co-workers, bloggers and review sites. And Gandhi is just one of those places.

Known in the city as the “best roti” in town, Gandhi serves enormous amount of roti orders to the Queen west crowds. With a pre-order time of approximately 30 mins and a pick-up wait time of about 10, my colleagues and I enjoy our $8.00 rotis like its nobody’s business. Most of us finish the whole take-out tray in one seating, hoping not to pass out at work afterwards; others opt to share it, while others save some to take home for dinner.

So what is it about their Roti that makes us all come back for more and crave on our Friday lunch runs? Well, a few things…First, the fantastic freshness and texture of the roti shell, which is made fresh everyday at the premises. Second, the succulent and delicious mixture of meat, curry, peas, herbs and some more that enrich the flavour and make it unique; and third, the fact that these pockets of flavour are packed with chunks of meat, not just little pieces of it. I’d be curious as to what their secret ingredient on the sauce is and what makes it so yummy.

My favourite yet is the Lamb Roti. I like it the best for its unique flavour, spice mix and the fact, as I mentioned, the lamb is present throughout the dish and found in chunks, not hidden in the sauce or additional ingredients. And more importantly, that it pleases my gluttonous self as this lunch portion is just the perfect size for my kind of meal.Gandhi also offers many vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, like the Butter Chicken roti, Eggplant with Potato roti and Channa roti, amongst others.

With affordable prices, incredible taste and an excellent location, Gandhi is one of those joints that will live in our working hearts for many years to come.

The food tastes great, the prices are low. I like this place, but then again it's not as amazing as my friends said it would be. So maybe I was expecting too much, which kind of marred the experience. The people there were very nice too. But make no mistake the food is great.
