Awesome sandwiches they make. When you see it, it will make you think is it actually a sandwich or not :D. This place is newly renovated. Has ping pong table while you wait for your sandwich. Recommended.

Still as Good as it was in the 70's till the 90's when we use to go there to Pick up Sandwiches for the guys at the Police Station. Would Recommend this one at the Claremont and The Queensway any time. Great Sandwiches.

Out of all the locations, this one is the best by far! I say their portions are bigger at this location. It all started from this location and It's always busy here and you'll often see the line go out the door. It's cash only but they do have an ATM available. Also don't use your cell phone when you're placing your order, they hate that.  You'll get messy while eating the sandwich but it's so good that you won't care. I usually get the Chicken but the Veal is pretty top notch too!

This is the original and it's the best! A little expensive for what you get and they've sure figured out how to make the veal go a long way by hammering so thin you can see through it. But the amazing sauce makes this sandwich as wonderful mess that you just have to have.

One of my favorite places to get a veal sandwich. This place is the original California Sandwich shop and never disappoints. MUST TRY! I added cheese and mushrooms ;)

What a great California sandwich location! I've tried a few others elsewhere in the GTA but nothing beats this one (so far!) I cannot tell you exactly how and why this location is THAT much better than their other locations but it just is! My to-go-to sandwich is the Veal with sweet sauce and cheese. Simple and delicious. the place is tiny and very random in a strange way. Don't let the exterior or interior fool you because they make a killer sandwich and it will sure fill you up! No matter how many times I go there, they will always blow my socks off! Can't wait for my next visit!

Veal, chicken, meatball, sausage, and more.
Basic, simple, good.
This is a little hole serving Torontonians for a generation or more.
Don't come here for impeccable customer service (these folks are southern Italian background, like myself) we are not known for etiquette and class, if you get over this and be patient at the ordering system. You'll love the sandwich. I've been to many other locations. The consensus is that this original location is still the best one, for food. Be prepared to wait, yes even if you call ahead. There's room for improvement, but not on the food. They are all family owned so chances are you'll get similar service at any location. I believe they could definitely improve customer service by training the staff with some basic skills. Hasn't changed since the '70s.

Great food!. The original and still the best of the California Sandwiches restaurants. There's always a lineup here, and for good reason. The sandwiches are huge and hot and consistently great. Well worth a visit even if you have to drive from a long way away.

Wow. Best Sandwich, had the Chicken parmesan one and was very good. The sauce was a little spicy for me but next time I will order the mild one. The bread is fresh and portions are huge, well worth the money. If you have the chance to come here and try their sandwiches you wont regret. Dont pay attention to the aged 80's decor, their food is good!

Not just a sandwich. You figure a pounded veal covered in flour and egg wash with bread crumbs would taste the same whether it be at California or any other Italian style shops. Whatever the reason, the veal sandwich tastes better at California than any other restaurants I have tasted so far. It must be the sauce...that would be the only thing which would be different from other places. Well, it's just good!

The single most delicious veal sandwich in the city at the Claremont location!!! You don't grow into 8 locations while still maintaining the original cult status for nothing! My boyfriend even witnessed a vegetarian abandon ship and have a veal sandwich!! Incredible!

A classic!. One of the best Veal sandwich in town. Lots of sauce. Fresh bread. This place is nothing fancy, but the food is great. Line-ups at the cash are to be expected.

Another best of Toronto: veal sandwiches that is. It really is. The décor adds nothing and the venue itself looks like some school cafeteria, but these sandwiches are the bomb diggity bomb. A can of Brio is the only other thing I need.

We were downtown Toronto shopping for a sound system at Kromer Radio for a really long time. I was starving for lunch! We were in the Bathurst/Dundas area, so I wasn't too familiar with what was around. Craving for California Sandwiches, I google-map

A medium hot chicken sandwich always hits the spot. I crave it on a regular basis. I've tried the veal but there is more batter than veal so I opt for the chicken which has more meat. I've heard the meatball sandwich is good too but I'm hooked on the chicken. Tomato sauce is delicious. It's the real thing. And you can add various condiments to your sandwich including:

- sweet peppers
- hot peppers
- sautéed onions
- rapini (yum!)
- mushrooms
- mixed veggies
- provolone cheese

Try the olives, they are fantastic too.

Service is friendly.
Line ups can be long so I recommend you call in your order before heading over.
