Perfect place to chill on a cold winter evening in Toronto- great neighborhood- friendly Irish pub with exceptional food, service and attitude. Too bad weren’t going to the music hall next door - but enjoyed it even more when it emptied out. Too many good options on food and drink to sample in 1 or 2 visits.
Love the casual pub-style atmosphere in this place. There's a good selection of beers on tap and the food is very good. The service is always friendly and efficient. In nice weather the patio out back is wonderful with your choice of sun or shade. Great place to lunch with friends. Once we even met the Irish Ambassador having lunch there!

Our ribeye steaks and our server - both exceptional- easily the best steak my husband and I have ever had. Sure the prices are a bit more than your average pub but we completely feel the food warrants it. Was not disappointed and would return.
One of the best spots in town for a great burger and scotch and craft beer selection. The Steak Festival is probably the best steak experience you'll ever enjoy; and the owner John is a solid chap. Have to visit Allen's with friends every time I'm in Toronto.
Been a favourite for 27 years. Had first dates and memorable times her with friends and family past and present. Most beautiful patio in the city as far as I'm concerned. Excellent service and a list of 100 beers well before the craft beer craze. It's an institution!
One of my favourite restos. Great food, incredible scotch and whiskey selection and the patio in the summer is one of the absolute best in the city!!
The roast chicken pizza was yummy and so was the white wine ....
Always a great time at Allen's, they always exceed my expectations. The food is amazing! The service is exceptional!
This one of the greats in the entire city. Great food, great service, great atmosphere.
Great atmosphere, excellent service and food is delicious!! Try the polenta fries !!
This place never disappoints! Wonderful service and they make the best burgers on The D!
in for a drink before concert, def be back for food in summer, smells amazing
The best damn cheeseburger I ever ate in my life......
Amazing, my steak was cooked to perfection! Staff was great, will definitely be back!
Their hamburger is one of the BEST I've ever had. They grind the beef themselves...mmm
Was there for lunch two weeks ago! Best burger I have ever tasted! Going back again, soon!

Allen's was a very pleasant surprise. We stopped in for lunch on New Year's Eve. Actually we were aiming for the pub next door, but they were not open for lunch, so we thought we would give Allen's a try. We had never heard of it before and did not know what to expect. What we got was good food and good service in a slightly upscale restaurant bar that looks like it has been around for a while and has been very well maintained. Lots of photos adorn the walls, likely from musicians who had played next door at the concert hall.
There was a private party at the bar at the front of the restaurant, so we had to wiggle our way to the dining room in the back half. There we were promptly seated at one of the blue and white checkered tablecloth tables. The full menu was presented, but we stuck to the Brunch page.
SWMBO ordered the Buttermilk Pumpkin Waffles with Pure Maple Syrup, with a side of Smoked Ontario Bacon. Good waffles, where the pumpkin flavour was pleasant and not overwhelming. Very good syrup too.
I had the 3 Egg Frittata with Sweet Potato Hash Browns, with brown toast. On this day the frittata came with tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, and Swiss cheese. Fluffy eggs and fresh ingredients. The hash browns were lightly cooked, with sautéed onions, leaving the cubed sweet potatoes soft and only slightly caramelized. I would have preferred them to be a bit crispy, but they were tasty nonetheless.
Our server was pleasant, polite and attentive.
I love this place. The patio out back is my favourite in the city. It's large, quiet, and full of large trees, which makes you forget you're in the middle of Toronto. Most recently we went here for brunch and had an amazing eggs Benedict. Their burger is also amazing. We also tried the polenta fries and baked sweet potato appetizers and were not disappointed. This is my go to summer patio place.
Wile there are a number of great items on the menu, my choice for lunch at Allen's is the burger, done medium rare. Juicy and satisfying. Nice beer selection and a lengthy scotch list that would take a weekly regular customer several years to sample each one (although there are a few most scotch drinkers would be less than likely to try based on price - but nice to know that, for far less than the price of the bottle at the LCBO or other liquor suppliers, you can sample a single serving of extremely rare stock). Service is courteous and professional. A fine establishment.
Fantastic atmosphere... Feels like you are tucked into a corner in London or old New York. I can only speak to the burgers which are divine, the meat speaks for itself when they are willing to make it blue. I went for the rare and have no regrets. Sure the toppings aren't inventive, but the quality is second to none.
This might be our home away from home when it comes to dining out. We barely even open the menu anymore. For years now we have been ordering the incredible Capon Wings which, with their tangy bbq sauce and blue cheese dressing are hands down the best wings in the city. The homemade ground chuck burgers can be ordered just the way you like with a great selection of farm fresh, local ingredients. I usually go for the Ontario goat cheese and double smoked bacon.
Other favourites include the beer battered fish and chips, made with perfect proportions of batter to fish. The shrimp red curry has a nice heat to it. The blackened potato salad is the only potato salad my husband has every liked. A delicious side option.
The wine list is all Ontario VQA wines. A large selection of by the glass, and surprisingly many older vintages by the bottle or glass.
The beer menu is vast and scotch list is widely considered the best in the city.
The service is okay (a bit moody) and the atmosphere is a tad bit noisy but that is part of the charm, and I always feel satisfied when I leave.
Thanks Allen's for being my second kitchen!
Have been to Allen's many times so I thought I would finally review it. We went last night and I ordered the salmon burger. The burger itself was good, but it came with a revolting pickle salad. I wish they would let you choose your side on certain dishes. My companion had what were supposedly award-winning ribs. They were okay, but we laughed at the thought of them winning an award. The salad combo plate that went with the grilled items is generous, but the problem is that the salads just don't taste very good.
What I like about Allen's is their beer selection and general atmosphere on the summer patio. And it is very inter-generational. You look around and there are 20-year-olds and 80-year-olds. There is something to be said for that! Plus, if you stay away from their BBQ menu, the food prices are reasonable enough.
But the food, frankly, is nothing special. Consider yourself lucky (very lucky) if you get served a great meal there.
Great food. Burgers and wings live up to their reputation. We had 3 burgers and fries with the works, one order of wings and three soft drinks and the bill came to just under $100, which for lunch seems a bit steep.Service was slow and no offers to refill our sodas that were empty by the time the food finally arrived.
Very solid. Ate at the bar - wonderful service from an experienced and courteous bartender. Grilled shrimp tacos were great, drinks generous. Recommend, would return. Only downside is decor could use an update.
Best Burger. Yep! I've only been once and have been craving it since. Their burger is amazing. You can order it how you want it (rare, medium rare, medium etc) simple yet devine!
We happened to go for dinner during the steak festival. I had the best steak I've ever had. The bartender was knowledgeable and very helpful. I would go back.
Enjoy a wide selection of beer while dining on amazing food, all while seated on a large, secluded patio (arguably the best in the city).
The food, the beer & wine selection, the service, and the atmosphere were all outstanding. We went there for dinner and had to go back the next day for lunch. The wild boar chop was tender, juicy, and flavorful - cooked to perfection. The burger was one of the best I've ever had. All the side dishes & appetizers were top notch. Dora, the proprietor/manager even sent us home with some Irish soda bread which is good fresh, but even better toasted the next day for breakfast. Highly recommended if you are in Toronto!
Great selection of beers. The burgers are also very good.
Food is well above pub average - a selection that goes beyond the basics with quality ingredients. Notable that they grind their own beef and as such you can get a burger rare if you like it. Great sweet potato fries, nicely cooked calamari.
Worth the visit. Ah Allen's - Probably the be shock menu in the city, and a local menu to boot with one of the nicest rear patios on the Danforth!
Great food, great crowd, I would definately go back
Awesome Sweet Potato Fries!. Along with their vast selection of beers and their amazing rear patio (nestled under what must be the city's biggest Willow tree), they have great SPFs!

Allens is an upscale pub with upscale food and drink a great place to take a first date! Can get a little busy at times so calling ahead is always a good idea
Fine dining!. Allen's initially appears to be a British pub with hundreds of different beers from which to choose. While this is true, their food is what makes the place. This is fine dining in pub clothes. From the exquisitely-aged grain-fed beef they serve to the terrific breakfasts to the excellent continental dinner menu items, Allen's is a remarkable place. The patio out back is one of the best places in Toronto to spend a warm couple of hours for drinks or eating. And they have perhaps the best burgers you will ever eat. Highly recommend!
Great selection of fine foods, beers and wines in a comfortable setting that can satisfy both casual and fine dining tastes. Very pleasant and enjoyable eating experience.
Amazing selection of beer and Good Food. I go to Allen's for a combination of good food -the beef stew is excellent, as are the specials, and the extraordinary selection of beers. In the summer, the back patio is a lovely place to relax and have a few drinks. All of the food is good, and the service is good, although sometimes strained during rush hour. If you don't like beer, their Scotch selection is also very good.
The back part was jammed ... it seems to be a popular spot for a late lunch. We looked at the menu and was surprised that were weren't more "pubby" foods. We sat at the bar and yakked with Steve, the bartender. Here's Gord. They had a great beer selection and a massive scotch selection ... the most expensive scotch is locked away in a safe and is $1,000 a shot! We liked it there and will be back! 1 comments:
The patio is stunning. Picture a huge tree-clad courtyard, sunlight streaming through the leaves with a mass of happy patrons basking in it. Inside the feel is old-school New York steakhouse meets
This is a very strong contender for the best burger in the city. Eat it.
Go for the whiskey, stay for the food! I discovered Allen's when I took my husband out for a night of whiskey-tasting. (Allen's has hundreds!) Now, I love Allen's burgers so much that I don't even read the menu anymore. I order a burger every time, with sweet potato wedges drizzled with a cilantro sauce that is the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. The burgers are dead simple (meat, toasted bun, lettuce, tomato) and simply popping with flavour. You know the satisfaction that comes from knowing you've got a sure thing in the comfort food department? Allen's delivers every time. NF
Allen’s is famous for a lot of things, including some of the tastiest Capon Chicken Wings in the city… not to mention a huge Beer selection and one of the nicest back patios that can be found anywhere. Don’t miss their annual Steak Festival, with over 50 organic farms represented.
