Great little Mexican restaurant!!
Had a hankering for some Mexican food and picked the closest restaurant with the highest rating.
Got the homemade chips & homemade medium salsa.
Great chips and the salsa had a nice little zip but nothing that knocked you over.
Had the enchiladas and they were also awesome!
Washed it all down with two Sol’s & a margarita.
Would definitely go back!!
Absolutely PERFECT. The food was unreal, and the service was spectacular! Honestly can't think of a single thing wrong with this place, an incredible experience!
This hidden gem is a great find that's right on Yonge street in downtown. It's easy to not be noticed but once you find it you'll be amazed by this place.
It's a small restaurant that nice look to it with colourful walls and a lot of Mexican souvenirs. The service is also friendly and helpful.
The food is freshly prepared and is a tough choice.
We had the pork stew in verde sauce and it was excellent. It wasn't too spicy but had a nice tangy kick to it.
Como en casa is truly worth a visit and repeating it if you're looking for authentic Mexican fare at great prices
Tried on a whim when I was in town & craving some Mexican food. Had the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. Everything was very good including the service though the music might have been just a touch too loud.
Como En Casa is a very casual Mexican eatery with good food. This was our second time having lunch here, and both times we left satisfied. The staff are friendly and the service was reasonably prompt.
SWMBO selected the Enchiladas (with chicken), and opted for the Mole sauce. The chicken was tender, and the chocolate flavour of the dark mole enhanced the taste.
I tried the Fish Tacos, with battered, deep fried Basa. The fish was light and flaky, and topped with fresh cole slaw and salsa fresca.
I ate here last night with my girlfriend. I ordered the two fish tacos with rice and salad ($12) and she ordered the enchiladas (w/ verde sauce) with rice and salad ($12). Both meals were enjoyed very much. The food was really tasty and arrived quickly. We also enjoyed the music playing over the speakers! Definitely recommended.
The staff is amazing, the food is great, one of my favorite places in Toronto! I go here often and always have great quality and an even better experience.
This location has a great interior and the staff makes it feel like you've taken a trip to Mexico. I ordered the fish tacos and although I wanted to love it because of the delicious flavours, was disappointed by how soggy the fried fish was. Battered fish should be crunchy and crispy but this one was smushy. The rice, fresco salsa, guacamole and salad were all great additions on the plate so overall the dish was good. I would go back to try a beef or chicken plate!
Came here for a lunch break and had a chicken quesadilla. It came with three different sauces and was an overall good meal. Wish It had just a bit bigger pop of flavour
Ohh man. So good! had a burrito, one of the best ones! very welcoming and makes you feel like you are part of the family!
try it is what im saying
GO! Definitely worth a try!. Fresh Food!
Was introduced to COMO en CASA by a friend and I love it! My new go to place for my weekend mexican fix! Love the candles they put on the tables at dinner time!
Very inviting, greens were fresh. Fish Tacos were delightful, salsa verde was very good. It's a basic eatery inside, ypu order up front and they bring you your food. Service not bad, very pleasant staff. We enjoyed ... Salut!
This may not be the best Mexican I have ever had by any means but the food is still rather tasty and presented in a simple but homely way. If you compare dollar to dollar with other fast food chains in the area you certainly are getting a much healthy meal for the price. Perhaps a few more touches to the plate to make it more appealing ( ie. sprigs of cilantro, lettuce leaves or tomato) may go a long way to raising the bar. Como En Casa did satisfy my craving for Mexican. I will likely go back again but will perhaps try something else. Great alternative to junk food at the cost.
Authentic Mexican food. I lived in Mexico for about 2 years and have been searching for authentic cuisine like I had back when I lived there and was disappointed a lot by the imitations here in Toronto. I finally came to this restaurant with my friend who's Latina and we both found the food to be like in real Mexico, closest than any other Mexican restaurant around here. The burritos melted in our mouths. Will be back again.
Best burrito in Toronto. Doesn't rely on its sauces for flavor like typical burritos, the freshness and quality of the ingredients make it great. I look forward to trying more from this place.
FINALLY!! we looked and looked, and we found it! The only good Legit Megican restaurant in Toronto! We've been to other places (cheaper and more expensive). And this is the best by far. If tou want real mexican food (not mexican fusion), this is the place!
Taco special is great. Got the taco special for $7. There are a few taco options to choose from; I went with pork, and it was terrific. Great flavour. And the rice and beans it came with were good too. I'm always looking for good
Great atmosphere. I had the beef stew. It was awesome. Food is fresh. The owner is really friendly and ensures that everything is right. A great find for me. I'll definitely go back.
Best for casual, down-home Mexican. Since randomly wandering in here a few months ago, Como en Casa has become one of my two favorite Mexican places in the city (the other being upscale & less traditional).
Service has been excellent every time I have come here and the food is fantastic! It's real, honest-to-god Mexican food -- something that I was surprised to find can be hard to come by in this city. Everything is very fresh, made with TLC and home-style care, and is a killer value, being quite cheap for quite a lot. Bang for your buck is excellent.
Fish tacos and chicken tacos are my two favorites, but try *anything* that strikes your fancy -- we have yet to find any disappointments on the menu.
Highly recommended!
The best Mexican I've had in the GTA but that isn't saying much. Wouldn't describe it as authentic Mexican or TexMex but solid and reasonably priced. A barely 'like' ....
Amazing Restaurant.. Amazing food-authentic, delicious, fresh, great portions and prices. The staff is pleasant-polite, cheerful, humble and hard-working. The atmosphere is enjoyable, relaxed and in a positive sense unique due to the colors on the walls, the lovely wall mural with inspirational\beautiful words\art and the music that's playing in the restaurant is even authentic and enjoyable. The desserts all of them are incredible. It's a wonderful place and I look forward to going frequently. I'm happy that it opened on Yonge Street-there should be more restaurants like this. It's genuinely wonderful. :)
Authentic Mexican food in Toronto. To enjoy the taste of authentic Mexican food in Toronto,
It is as simple as to lunch or dinner at "Como en casa".
We spoiled our palate with each of the meals offered fresh, tasty, prepared by Carlos and Fernando, with that homemade "touch", which is not found today‘s gastronomy.
Its excellence can be enjoyed with any of the dishes offered, from a red pozole, a burrito, tamales, empanadas, tacos, pollo asado and desserts.
The portions are generous, the service is quick, the staff and the atmosphere are friendly, environment is cheerful, hygiene is excellent and prices are reasonable.
What else do you need to spend a good time with friends or family? ... .A "Corona?".. They also have it¡! Visit them!!! I can assure you are going to have a great time, and enjoy the best Mexican food ever outside of Mexico!!
Pleasant surprise, nice portion size, tasty and good value for the money. The service was also pleasant and curious
Quality and Authentic & a Must 'GO TO'. Prologue: Because of my pickiness with food & certain food sensitivities, coupled with the fact that I cook a great deal myself, I have but a few restaurants that I have discovered to actually like, especially in this city. I tend to cook my own dishes but once or twice a week, I like to experience 'really good quality food (not mediocre, not over priced) This is my first review of any restaurants so note that I am writing with conviction.
-- > Just north of Wellesley on the east side, Como en Casa is a colourful abyss of yellow, orange, red and personality, both in food and people. The minute you enter this little restaurant, you are taken away from the hectic city greys. The music, colours and ambiance transport you out of the City of Toronto, even for a short period, and you experience a little bit of Mexico and its tasty dishes.
Contrary to an earlier previous post, the rice is not dry and the beans are very tasty. The two partners, who I found out are named 'Carlos and Fernando' have done well to present ‘Mexican Restaurant quality’ in an open f'aster service-sit down and eat' environment. The combination of the two owners having a love for cooking and the experience of dealing with clients in a 'customer service oriented' environment is what makes the place both inviting and the food even tastier.
They have recently introduced Tamales which are made from scratch. Presently they offer the tamales in beef and chicken and will be bringing in both Veggie version (Beans) and pulled pork. I thought the Tamales were phenomenal. However, to ensure that I was not being biased, I brought in a very good friend, originally from the Central American region, who loves tamales and I know would be bluntly honest. It was quite a hit!. He could not believe how close it tasted to ‘just like back home’. If you do order it, make sure you have the hotter salsa, the ‘green salsa’ with it. It seems to make the flavours of the tamales ‘pop’.
The quesadilla is about the size of the plate, grill pressed after filling it generously with all the goodies. It is nothing like the restaurants down and up the street from this locale; it is even bigger, better and more to the point, tastier!
I would have to say that my favourite is definitely the Mexican Chicken Adobo. The chicken is always tender and tasty, the sauce is absolutely savoury and complemented with a side of rice, beans and your choice of Salsa. This is definitely my favourite and for the price, it is well worth it. A whole meal that will not only satisfy your palate but also your pocket (everything in $10 range which includes meal, tax and tip)
Fernando and Carlos not only focus on taste, but presentation, customer service and customer satisfaction. I believe they have recently applied for a liquor licence which is a real plus. Compared the dishes on hand to the Mexican sit down restaurant up the street (Yonge/Bloor) and its sister sit down restaurant just north (Maitland/Yonge), the prices, the flavour and authenticity supersedes them hands down. A must ‘go-see’ for yourself place.

PS:
NOW Magazine gave it 3N (NNN) out of 5. I did not like their opening line as it is all the appears on this page. So I have posted their whole review here:

"Is this the best Mexican grub in town? Not by a long shot. But Carlos Rios’s low-key cantina in the old Pita Break space makes up for the missing glitz with low-prices and dishes made from scratch. Like Agave and El Sol, fast food this ain’t. Best: grilled white flour tacos stuffed with sweetly shredded chicken, beef or pork or grilled veggies as well as cheese, lettuce and tomato; bountiful burritos stuffed with tomato-tinted rice, creamy refried beans and roasted corn and a raft of fixings; slow-braised adobo chicken in tangy tomato sauce; house-baked empanadas. Complete meals for $10 per person, including tax, tip and a soda. Average main $6. Open Monday to Friday 11 am to 9 pm, Saturday noon to 9 pm. Closed Sunday, holidays. Unlicensed. Access: one step at door, washrooms in basement. Rating: NNN"
Amazing!! You gota try this place.
It's so fresh! And the guys there are so friendly! Not to mention the food is amazing!
Just had their burrito, gona go back for some stew! I dare say this burrito rivals Burrito Boyz! It's not enormous like BBoyz (which is damn tastey) but it's light and fresh, and delicious.
Come with rice and beans which are equally fresh and delicious! Also tries their Guac, and home made tortias chips! Needless to say: ditto.
Keep this place in business!!
PROPER!. Proper mexican Joint, i had the carnitas burrito and it was proper! full of flavour and all!
my boy had the guac and chips, guac was proper, and my brother got the beef stew, it was as authentic as authentic could be. And this is coming from a latino. "Como en casa" just like home. the name fits!
I'm absolutely surprised that it only got 3.4! I went there today and the food is just like home cooking! Tasty, tangy guacamole, beef tacos heated like panini and the medium heat roja salsa was sooo tasty! Maybe I was starving after my workout but it's up there on my scale of taste and homestyle comfort!
