Review Duke Of York - Toronto

The food was delicious and service was fast. We really enjoyed the meal, particularly the chicken which was juicy and tender. The portions were filling and I couldn’t find much to complain about. Overall a jolly good experience and highly recommended if you’re looking to experience British pub food.

We had a great time at this place today. There is a good selection of food and drinks. It’s located in a quieter street, and has a charming outdoor patio. The burger and greek salad with shrimp that we ordered were perfect.

Nice bar overall with great drinks. They have a large gin selection, and a make your own gin & tonic menu that I enjoyed. However I think it would be better with less ice, as the gin & tonic was a bit too diluted. Due to its popularity, the place tends to be quite packed and crowded.

I should dare to say that I am a frequenter of the Duke of Yorker accompanied with my wife, although this week we are out of the Pubs as to avoid too much beer drinking, we really love the traditional English decorated style house nearby the famous Yorkville community ,everyone enjoyed the the patios in front of the house or behind the house, and the streetside also,we were always drinking beer at the patios in the summer and the autumn, the waiters are really nice.the local craft beers are wonderful,my wife and I were impressed with the fries and the sweet potato fries, it’s a great choice for beers. As a British style pub, you must had tasted the fish and chips of theDuke‘s along with the tasting salad, better than their ancestors in the England, trust me.

What a gem of a place! Food was great. Service was outstanding. We had a whole room to ourselves so we could actually talk during our meal. We felt like royalty. I had the fish and chips which were great. My spouse had a curried potato burger but with no meat. It was outstanding! I forget what it was called but the flavours were magnificent. We will definitely be back. Thank you for helping making a special evening even more special!

Happened upon the outdoor patio by chance as we were visiting the ROM and parked nearby. Best decision for dinner! Service was great, had a gin spritz from the happy hour menu - delicious. We ordered the chicken pot pie and also the fish and chips at the suggestion of the server. Huge portions, food was cooked well. Great atmosphere. Our server was excellent! Will stumble back again this summer for sure:)

Our server was very friendly but the restaurant needs more staff. Order came late and the runner was not very friendly, maybe because he was the only one working.

Very nice little hidden gem on a quite residential street. Large front and back patio spaces. Typical British pub offering with some modern twists. Not a lot of crafts, but definitely enough for a place like this. There used to be a craft oriented lower lounge on site, but it's closed for now. Hopefully it will reopen soon.

The Duke of York is a special place to get together. It has wonderful atmosphere, fantastic service and the food is great. When I saw Trio of Pork Pulled Yorkies for just $10.99 on the menu, I knew that is what I would be having. Super tender and tasty, loved it. BTW the brunch/breakfast tacos are super messy and the large Caesar salad is quite generous without being too big. I am so glad I got to visit this icon of Toronto that I had heard so much about. We walked to the Duke of York for supper.

Gord ordered the Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich with a side salad. He said it was really good and he'd get it again.

I was hungry and ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs, substituting the fries for mashed potatoes. Everything was good but I thought $20 was a lot for what I got. I think it should have been priced about $15.

Stephanie was our server. She was friendly and took good care of us. She left about 5:30pm and the service went down after that and we were ignored.

I really like this pub. I went here with an old friend to catch up and get some beer.
We tried 5 for $20 apps from the Basket Bites, which is a great deal. We each got one giant pretzel and split some edamame, crunchy nacho cheese sticks and deep fried pickles.

Everything was great. The pretzels were huge and I would go back just for a pretzel and beer after work some time (a pretzel on its own is $5). The pickles were tasty, edamame tasted fresh, and the nacho cheese sticks really surprised me. Think mozzarella stick but instead of regular breading it was like crushed up nachos... So good!

The service was great and this is a cute little place. I'll definitely be going back.

Over Priced for bland average food.. I ordered a Duke burger and fries for take out. it came up to 13.55 after tax. way overpriced. the patty was obviously frozen, it was dry and bland. had a 1 pickle slice 1 tomato slice and 1 lettuce slice plus house sauce. not impressed. if i wanted an extra topping i would have to pay another 1.29 per item.

the fries were plain and looked from frozen.

i could of gone to another luxury burger joint and got a premium burger with a poutine for the same price.

i will never go to this restaurant again

The coleslaw is a hit or miss appArantly - for us it was a miss. Cabbage straight from a bag- no dressing. Tasteless. The fish and chips themselves were ok but the fries were only warm. The tea was cold - again reported to is as a hit or miss. Out of our group of three, one of us for hot food and hot tea.

Unpredictable. I`ve been going there since it opened in the 1970`s and it`s been through so many ups and downs, depending on who`s managing it. Right now the food is OK but overpriced and the service is based upon which waiter you happen to get. There is no consistency; it`s all pretty haphazard.

$20 for nachos? That's $20 for nachos with no chicken, no pork, no beef, no guacamole. The worst part is that there was barely enough cheese to cover about four chips. A plate of dry tortilla chips for $20. Why would anyone eat here?

Nothing to write home about. It's a pub. pretty classic pub food. Had great service when we went

Great Pub. While visiting my cousin in Yorkville, she brought us to this restaurant and it was great. I loved the pulled pork sandwich and quesadillas and the rest of the group I was with also loved their food. Wait staff was very friendly and I will definitely re-visit!

The worst service and beer ever and an absolute disappointment. We went there for a beer on the patio and the server refused to give us an ashtray until we ordered. But she didn't give us a menu and we were already smoking cause she took so long.

The house beer was old, flat, and tasted really off. The beer was so disgusting that we did not even want any food.

The waitress also deliberately neglected to give us any change and i had to ask for it back.

Due to her incompetence and tardiness the entire ordeal took a grueling 40 minutes and the place was empty.

This was absolutely the worst service and beer that i have ever received at any establishment and was a huge disappointment.

Great pub. Everything was perfect at Duke Of York. From the moment we entered and were met with a cute sexy lady to the hostess that was phenomenal blonde eye candy to the hot curry everything was perfect. We don't have places like these in the Peg for sure. Will be back when in town.

Great food. The one thing I know about the food at the Duke is how good it is. That is why I am surprised that the pub is getting bad reviews. Frankly the food is way way better than it should be. How come? The Duke girls will have us coming back again and again anyway. Those skirts are to die for.

Should have listened to the waitress. Well It's one of those things that always go with your first choice when selecting a meal. I was going with either the Shepard's pie or steak sandwich and I should have gone with the steak. The sweet potato instead of mashed potato just wasn't that great. Although it was OK just not good the gravy was beef powder base and came out slightly warmer than room temp. 1.5 out of 5

Bad food. Their food is really bad. Their Nachos and Caramari were really stale and bad. Fish & chips were not tasty either. I brought a group of people from out of town and I was so embarrassed. You can't go there to eat. Just for a drink is fine, I guess.

Expensive bad food. The food is rather expensive, and rather bad for your health. things are breaded, yuck. HOWEVER this place has a GREAT UPSCALE ATMOSPHERE

Reliable. Been going here for years. The food is cheap but large portions. they have a good variety of drinks. You can get a Moosehead here. Great. The girls are dressed to impress. This isn't your local Swiss Chalet waitress. The hiring manager knows what he is doing he he

Great Pub. While visiting Toronto during the last two weeks a friend recommended this pub and I'm glad she did. The food is really quite good and definitely well above what I think of a typical pub food. Given the quality of the ingredients, the prices are pretty reasonable. They have a nice selection of beers, as I would expect, and also several good wine choices, which I didn't expect.

The service was very good and friendly each time I went and they have a lovely patio in the back. I'll certainly be back when I'm in Toronto again.

Went to Duke of York for nachos and beer on Saturday evening with my son Mark. The Duke of York is located on Prince Arthur Avenue near Yorkville. In a group of restaurants that include Bedford Academy, Fieramosca and Opus. The inside is warm, homey and is composed of a variety of different rooms and a nice bar. There is an outdoor patio at the back that is open in the summer. The downstairs was hopping with a birthday party and there were large groups coming and going throughout the evening. There were many U of T students here, since it is located on the edge of the Annex and the University. They have a good selection of beers, including the regular choices, as well as some craft brews and some UK choices. Mark decided on a Moosehead. I chose a beer I hadn't had in a while, Boddingtons Pub Ale. It was cool, creamy and delicious.

I must apologize for the lack of images but you just have to take my word for it that the fish and chips was so good. Served piping hot with equally good freshly-cooked fries, I could not wait too long anymore and I just had to dive in. Abe and I literally had a meal where talk was on the minimum (that almost never happens) and we just went with the business of chewing. LOL. As I look back at how Abe and I look like, it was very amusing that both of us were virtually quiet. Now I know where to hop and skip towards to before I get to Abe’s place. I would surely come back to have that fish and chips once again.

I was a bit hungry, so a few of us shared the Nachos at Duke of York, a local U of T bar. They weren't that great because they didn't have a lot of toppings. At least they gave a lot of sour cream and Salsa.

This place has a great patio out back, not to be missed in the summer. Food and drink is standard pub fare, you'll be neither disappointment nor wowed. I do find that the tables are a little close together for comfort. So don't be surprised if you overhear other conversations.

They also have a pretty competitive trivia league that meets weekly if that's your thing.

Great food and service here! Very good at getting you in and out quickly if you've got a time constraint (like a set lunch hour). Overall fantastic
