Review Mad Mexican Tacohouse - Toronto

Marissa C
This place is bigger than I thought it was. Definitely recommend booking a table in advance to ensure you get seated as it can get pretty busy. The drinks were pretty tasty and decent, loved the variety. Their nachos however, were pretty disappointing. I would NOT recommend to get them. It was something I could make at home for a lot less and end up with the EXACT SAME RESULT. The tacos definitely boosted this review from 3 stars to a 4. They were pretty flavourful and there was a good variety of choices. They are slightly on the pricy side, ranging from $6-$7 each. I will say they could’ve been heated up a tad more as they showed up on my table slightly warmer than lukewarm. Also not sure this was intentional but I noticed one of them wasn’t double shelled. The staff were all very friendly and I had a good overall experience.

Super delicious food and amazing nacho chips. We ordered the guac which was great and I highly recommend adding the green hot sauce to it that they bring to the table. Service was great as well. Just wish I had enough room for dessert. Will have to get it next time!

Great ambiance and great staff, especially Mariana! The food is delicious, but a little on the pricier side. They also have a little Supermarket at the back where you can buy all sorts of different things, from Latin-inspired groceries, to alcohol and some food items that are made in-house!

Amazing food and drinks! Loved everything we ordered. 6/5 for the guac, so fresh and flavourful! Would love it if there were more vegetarian options, but the staff was really friendly and helpful and made substitutions on the dishes possible. A little on the expensive side, but would love to visit again!

Nice find in west Toronto . Interesting street patio. Reservations recommended since popular spot with locals. Very nice artwork to keep the conversation going. Service was average. Tacos were authentically good.

This place was OK. The service was not great and we had to wait a long time for them to take our order, bring us set ups, plates for guacamole (we got those ourselves actually). Drinks took forever too. Maybe they were short staffed… We had tacos and the fish tacos were very good but the flat iron beef taco was so so and greasy. The margarita was nice with the spicy salt rimmed glasses but they did not have any Gran Marnier for Cadillac Margies.

We enjoyed Mad Mexican! The food was quite tasty, I really loved the corn, and the guacamole! Our server was great. The one thing I wouldn’t recommend is the pecan pie, I LOVE me some pecan pie but this one was not good at all. However, our server ended up bringing us another dessert on the house (don’t know exactly what it was) but it was delish! Thank you! We will be back.

A great atmosphere that isn't backed up by good food. The corn tortillas were stale, the chicken enchilada was not seasoned and the taco flavours were underwhelming. The Flautas De Pollo was way over fried and too crunchy. On top of this our server never asked how our meal was and just grabbed our plates at the end of the meal. Would try somewhere else first.

We loved this place! The atmosphere is great, including the sense that it's a family-run business. Food is delicious, and we've eaten a lot of Mexican food over the years. Everything is made fresh in-house, according to the server. The dessert was just amazing and they have a good variety of drinks. We'll definitely be back

excellent service, high-level food. I recommend your revolution burrito or your Guadalajara cake. and for dessert a delicious churro with cajeta

Lovely experience tonight! The painting on the walls in the restaurant creates a really positive vibe. Wonderful environment, great latin music, authentic food and delicious drinks. The servers are very attentive and friendly, they even surprise me with a glass of hot water before I even ask for it lol as I have gone there many times. Everything definitely matches up and make you feel the real Mexican culture in Canada. Street corn is incredible, YOU MUST TRY! This time, I also had the “chile relleno” that was fantastic accompanied with a fresh squeezed orange juice (literally fresh, it was squeezed at the moment).

What I love more and more about Mad Mexican is that they are not just making tacos and other appetizers, like most of mexican places in the GTA. If you want to have a milanesa, a chile relleno or a real chicken mole. This is the only place on Canada, you will find it prepared like your mom could do it if she happens to be mexican.

Stopped here for a snack on my way back to Home. Had the Tacos(Torrtilias are made in house) and Tortillia Soup is very Delic. Guac was amazing . The server was excellent and friendly, knowledgeable. Would go again there. The atmosphere is very cozy yet very real . Prices very reasonable.

Service was excellent! Quick and we had a great waitress who gave us recommendations for food. Food was great, and we were super impressed with the guacamole. It's really good!

I will give it a 3.5 for their drinks, tortilla chips and salsas, and the ambiance. Some work on getting consistent results with their tacos would give them extra points (i.e pork taco was somewhat dry, but the lamb and fish ones were spot on!)

This place is officially one of my favourite taco spots in the city!

I've been a fan of their salsas and guacamole for awhile now, so was eager to check out their restaurant.

All items are reasonably priced and their guacamole and nachos are enough to keep you coming back!

I ordered the grilled cod, battered shrimp and potato tacos, all equally delicious. Although the cod could also be served battered, I opted for the grilled version and loved it. Most places, all you end up tasting is the batter, but the grilled version was nice and light, but flavourful.

My friend ordered the chicken burrito, which she quite enjoyed.

If you live in the area it's a must, if you live downtown it's a must, pretty much wherever you live it's a must, you will not be disappointed!

Open for lunch and dinner, you have plenty of time to enjoy their amazing food!

Already planning my next visit!

Got the Mad Mexican Combo from Front Street Foods: (Top to Bottom: Fajita Vegetable, Yucatecan Pollo Pibil, Braised Pork Carnitas De Michoacan) – 3 tacos for $12

My most favorite taco was the braised pork as it was juicy and seasoned just right. Their guacamole is to die for, very creamy yet had the right amount of lime to cut down that fatty flavor from the avocado, definitely top your taco with some of that!! However I felt the taco shells were a bit too warm and it kept falling apart :(.

I didn’t enjoy the fajita vegetable as I found it a bit sweet from the bell peppers and too bland. The yucantecan had chicken in it and it was so dry and tough to chew on. The chicken was tasteless as well, really disappointed :(.

Our server was great, food came quickly and was fresh and fantastic, nice decor...why rate it as a 2.5?? Serving portions are a joke! 3 tacos for 12$....sounded like decent value BUT they are 2 bite tacos, only 3.5 inches with a spoon full of filling, appetizers were the same so for $52 ( with tip) I would go else where

My experience in mad Mexican. Today I been for first time. Place is great, food is good nothing special. ,but service is very bad I waxy 45 minutes for an order of tacos the waitress forgot about us.

I was drawn here because they have cheap tacos and have a lamb taco, which I haven't seen anywhere else. Kelvin F and I ordered the lamb tacos and the pork tacos. The low cost of the tacos is explained by the very small size. The tortillas are a little bland, there aren't much of any toppings, and the meat was a bit dry. I will say however, that the lamb tacos are still worth trying if you like lamb!

Girlfriends, gabbing, and guacamole. Perfect for a dinner to catch up with the ladies from the the neighbourhood.

Nice spot. They need some work though. Sauces and salsas were great. Chips way to small to scoop or hold guac or salsa. Beef tacos were dry with little flavour the chunks should be larger. Pork tacos were alright but tough. Fish tacos were better. Tortillas are great they aren't too fragile. The sandwich or "torta" was nice it reminded me of being on the streets of central Mexico eating with locals. Why there is no chorizo taco here is beyond me.

Wonderful Tacos, quick service, authentic. I highly recommend eating here.. Read the other reviews, was sceptical about quality, service, but decided to give it a shot anyways as I love Mexican food. Very glad I did.

Ordered 3 tacos, the chicken, lamb, pork and a pint of Boneshaker IPA.

Service: Very friendly waitress, pint was served within 2min of ordering, tacos arrived 2 min after that. Was given a choice of 3 salsas and a hot sauce.

Food: Tacos were authentic, double wrapped fresh and hot. In order, favorites were Chicken. Lamb, pork. Impressed with the Salsas-watch out for the little bottle of hot sauce as it packs a punch.

Overall: In and out quickly, delicious food, friendly service, picked up some tortillas and Guacamole (Hot) on the way out. I highly recommend you visit.

Just ordered take out from Mad Mexican. It took 45 min for a small soup and one taco. They didn't warn me about the wait at all. Kitchen seemed overwhelmed and servers constantly apologizing. I took home the food and was disappointed. The tortilla soup had nothing but broth and tortillas in it and was more of a sauce consistency than a soup. The steak taco was very underwhelming and the meat a little tough. They also forgot the cheese that I asked for. I was very excited about this restaurant but they need a lot of improvements before I will go back unfortunately.

Excellent tacos. We had three great tacos for 10$. Local draft beer on tap! Heaven in a neighborhood joint. Don't believe the poor reviews, perhaps they were expecting TexMex. The Mad Mexican serves quality food in appropriate sized portions for a great price.

Service left a bad taste in my mouth..... The tacos were ok, a bit dry, not that flavorful. Guac was good. But the service....WOW. In a world of terrible service they managed to REALLY stand out. Worst customer service experience in three years. From the moment I walked in, staff could not be bothered to even speak to me. When I finally did get some service, the obnoxious, self-important, loud, manager? server? owner? never acknowledged me once - she did however interrupt the girl who was finally helping me, who was apparently in training, several times to tell her she should be serving someone else or that she was doing something wrong. Not so much as an excuse me or I'll be right with you. Almost $40 for seven tiny tacos and some Guacamole? The food isn't near good enough to make up for this dreadful woman.

Initial promise, but leaves mush to be desired.
Tacos are very small for the price they cost, and the carnitas was just tiny sparse bits of dry meat - definitely not a primo product. Also no hot sauces at all to be seen anywhere - I expect at least a few of these at a legit taco spot.
I got the feeling the place was more concerned with mass producing their guac and salsa than making a quality taco, as evidenced by the weird window into the factory from the restaurant. Would like to have the option of a flour shell as opposed to corn.

TOTAL RIPOFF! I went to the mad mexican location on jane st just south of annette street. They had recently opened their dine in/ takeout menu (seperate from their salsas etc.) consisting of tacos, mexican sandwhiches (tortas) and soups. I ordered 6 tacos consisting of 2 chorizo, 2 beef and 2 fish. The fish was under cooked, let alone the lack of flavour in each bite of each taco. The tacos lacked pairing of the protein with any sort of delicious topping like pico de gajo for example or a lovely crema doused over top. The tacos are ridiculously small and comparable to a two-bite browney! Thirdly, these 6 tacos that couldnt even feed one person cost me over $26 dollars!

If you love Mad Mexican salsa and guacamole you will love this place more! I had the tomatoe pepper and tortilla soup and chicken tortilla and it was insanely delicious. They offer Mexican sandwiches, small bites and soups . Delicious! Everything is under $10 each. Very fresh as everything is made on site.

I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to Toronto Mexican food. I love the Playa Cabana locations, and I frequent Grand Electric. Mad Mexican's food doesn't hold a candle to these places, but is still worth a visit.

Their tacos are decent and their veggie sandwiches make a nice lunch! They sell containers of guac and salsa, which are always better than what you could get at the grocery store. Best of all, they sell refillable bags of nachos!

I have to admit, I've always brought my food home and never eaten in the restaurant, as it has such a take-out, fast food vibe. I'll be interested to see their new and bigger location, a block north.

I mean, who doesn't love tacos, guacamole and chips? The guac was delicious and the chips were fresh - my companion and I ordered two rounds of chips, as we wanted to make sure that we finished the guacamole. We both got tacos - very tasty. We also sampled all three offered salsas (mild, medium and hot) - so good. It's a small place, but fits right in with the neighbourhood. Staff are nice and it's also World Cup-friendly. (They were playing the Australia/Denmark game when we were there) I plan to go back to try other things. My lunch pal bought a bag of chips and guacamole to go. If you're in the Bloor West/Baby Point area, you have to try this place.

Haven't tried everything on the menu yet but the tacos are tasty and somewhat unusual to my taste buds, which are used to Taco Bell style tacos. My favourite dish is the choriqueso, which is served in a cast iron skillet. Nice touch.

Service is sometimes a bit slow but always friendly!

Update: Jan. 2015. I recently tried their Sopa De Tortilla and I was impressed. So flavourful! And the heat is right to my taste as long as I don't eat the chilis. I like heat, don't get me wrong, but I don't like so much heat that i can't taste the ingredients.
