Review Vaticano - Toronto

David Mendoza
Incredible food experience. Authentic Italian flavours and they have a new drink menu as well with amazing cocktails! The food has this beautiful homemade feel that makes it very special. Super friendly staff, prime location, and I was very happy with the prices given the quality of the food. Fully recommended!!

My boyfriend and I have been coming to Vaticano for years, and we will continue to come back because of the wonderful service, atmosphere, and of course, the *incredible* food. Every employee is so warm and attentive, and Felice is a king~ Everything on the menu is exceptional, but my personal favourite is the Agnolotti Alla Sasha ✨ 10 stars out of 5! Xo

Amazing food and welcoming staff! We had an absolutely wonderful evening. Outdoor dining is fantastic and the kindest waiter ushered us inside the moment there was a tiny bit of rain—absolutely no interruption to our perfect date. Can’t wait to come back—only wish we’d saved room for dessert.

Wonderful cozy ambience & delicious authentic Italian food! The wait can be longer than usual on busy days, sometimes up to an hour. However, the food is worth it, and all of the servers are very down to earth, kind & hospitable.

We were able to book last minute reservations for our group of 8, we were so appreciative that they could seat us. The food and drinks were so delicious! The service was amazing! Thank you to the staff who was so friendly and making our experience awesome! Definitely worth trying this place out!

Unfortunately, my family and I had an unpleasant experience attempting to dine here. Myself, my wife, daughter, and our Maltese pup were given a table on the patio, however it was not in a very high traffic area. We asked first the staff member about if restaurant is pet friendly and she said yes. The patio links with that of another restaurant. There was an instance when a diner with dogs was seating at the other restaurant patio, and her dogs and mine briefly barked at each other. We ordered our meals, then a member of staff approached our table and told us that a complaint had been made about our dog, and for us to do something about it. If there is friendly pet area why complain . We decided that we were no longer going to stay and dine. From the very start, we were unsure about our seating arrangement. We expressed our concern for it being a high traffic area and our dog. We were given no other options. Our dining experience here was unpleasant to say the least.

Extremely disappointing experience. Servers were based. We seen 3 families arrive after us and were served before us. Bread was served only to the "VIP". Waited over an hour for a pizza. Paying around $30 for pizza with dry sausage and a small pinch of cheese is criminal. Service and quality has decreased significantly.

Very bad service, food arrived about an hour and a half after we ordered. Although the waitress was nice I would expect a manager to show up but no one did. Went out on a Saturday evening and was expecting much more. Food was reasonable but not something to go back or worth recommending.

I have finally found great and authentic Italian food in Toronto, and that's a tall order because Toronto has a lot of very good Italian restaurants. This one really stands out. I had the veal marsala with mushrooms and it was to die for.

My husband and I recently ate at the Vaticano, Fort Erie location and it was excellent! This restaurant is so pretty, the decorating is fantastic! It sits right on the Niagara River and I’m told that there will be a patio in the summertime. This is the fanciest restaurant Fort Erie has ever had. Hopefully our locals will become regular guests and make this restaurant last!

Welland location!! My family of 5 just ate here and really enjoyed it! The gnocchi was amazing and the portobello ravioli was great as well!! Kids loved the pizza too! Only suggestion would be to maybe have a kids menu! We will definitely be returning.

Food was amazing, not too pricey considering the location and reputation. Super friendly staff made us feel welcome, however I do wish our waiter checked in on us more often. Didnt have to wait more than 5 mins for a table on a busy saturday night. Overall well worth the $$. Will be going back forsure.

Was blown away with the quality of the food, staff was friendly and welcoming ! Will be raving about this food for a long time to come. Cannot wait to go to Toronto and eat here again!

Mark, our server extraordinaire, took care of us from the moment we walked in the door and throughout a romantic, authentic and delicious dinner. A very memorable evening!

Any time we go to Toronto, we eat there as many times as we can, the food it outstanding, the staff is friendly accommodating, and the atmosphere is great. Pete (rochester)

I order the Tortellini in Rose' sauce. It's clean, the food is good & the service is decent.

Service and ambiance was incredible, along with all of my families dishes. I ordered the veal and the tenderness was perfect! Highly recommend the Creme brûlée for dessert.

Good : Romantic, Service, Portion sizes, Menu and Wine list, Pasta.

Bad : Ceaser Salad. ( Dressing was mayo, and no bacon. Not the real deal. )we had a Apple Pastry dessert with ice cream and tasted like store bought.

Ugly: The women's washroom was discusting and backed up. I tried to use the plunger to clear the way before I used the toilette. No go.

The Manager was more interested watching the staff and straightening cutlery then checking out the rest of the facilities.

Went to this Italian restaurant in Yorkville to get that Italian fix. We made reservations through Opentable and had lunch here before Icefest. The restaurant wasn't too busy but it picked up as we ate our lunch. We decided to get the prix-fixe menu where you get to choose an appetizer and main entree plus coffee and tea for $18.95. It was a pretty good deal. I ordered the Calamari Fritti for the appetizer and the Pizza Margherita for the entree. The calamari was quite food and it came a small side salad. Portion size was a good amount. The pizza was good but there wasn't really anything special about it. The service could have been better as we had to repeat several times to get simply things like bread and coffee. There also a bit of confusion getting are orders right when they came to our table. Overall, it was a decent lunch experience.

The closest to an authentic Italian experience. Though the menu is somehow limited, the options cover for different dietary preferences including vegetarians and antipasto fans. We went for lunch, ordered the chicken salad with goat cheese and the green salad, we also ordered the veal scallop and spaghetti with fresh tomato sauce. The meals were excellent and the ingredients very fresh. The services was exquisite- the best in Toronto so far. Deeming this place my favorite eat in Yorkville.

Great experience. Really enjoyed their pizzas especially Pizza Parma. Pizza Napoli was my son's favorite, salads were also good. Pretty sure we're going to come back, the service was great.

Skip this place, there are so many other options. why put yourself through this?. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. The head waiter here is obnoxiously arrogant and condescending. To say that the service is horrible would be kind. The food is not bad but given the final product, certainly overpriced. There aren't too many things that a person can guaranty will never happen. Well, I guarantee that I will never ever step foot inside this establishment again. I would sooner pop a frozen dinner in the microwave and flush my money down the toilet than have to endure the incompetence that I witnessed today.

Don't eat here! There are better Italian Restauants. After living in Toronto for a few years when you think of Yorkville you think of the amazing restaurants and bars- not the case for this restaurant. I have never heard nor dined at this restaurant before as it was booked through a friend. We were a party of ten. On arrival the restaurant seemed busy- always a thumbs up! On looking around the decor looked tired and cheap looking, not the usual standard in Yorkville.
Most of the group decided to go with a pizza with it being an Italian restaurant you‘d think they’d be able to do a good pizza. But not the case, like the pervious review we complained about our food we said our pizza’s were very salty and not very tasty at all and they never offered to take it off our bill or re make another one for us. After spending over $500 on the meal and drinks between 10 of us I am happy to say I would never go back or recommend anyone else to either.
The service is mediocre and it add fuel to the fire they added a service charge to the bill a bit presumptuous considering the food quality and service. It was a 0/10 for me.

-----31 Oct, 2014-----

Don't eat here!!. Absolutely terrible. We went as a group with a preset menu. We were told 65 a person, but we only got one dish (pasta or meat) and hardly had enough of the appetizer plate to share (we each got 2 pieces of fried calamari and one mushroom) and dessert was scarce. The total came to 90 a person after everything. Our main course costs 20 on the menu. And the coffee was made with used coffee grinds. It looked more like tea than coffee. HORRIBLE! And this all took 3 and a half hours!!! DO NOT GO!

Mediocre all the way. We wanted to celebrate a special occasion and chose vaticano on reputation and menu. Big mistake. Service, food and environment were mediocre. Food was served lukewarm and not coordinated. Placement of diners in the restaurant was stupid all 4 tables of diners put next to each other while the rest of the place was empty leaving the patrons with kids, the romantic couple and the table with a very deaf old lady to battle each other. Wine vinegar cruets were sticky and dirty. Bread was cold. Food orders were wrong and sauces were missing. We were outraged that an optional side order of angel hair pasta for $6.50 meant that they would remove the promised vegetables from the main plate. Why? All in all very disappointing. Toronto has so many excellent Italian restaurants why waste your time and money here.

Yum! Delicious! Good service and nice atmosphere

Best italian food in town. I wanted to go to vaticano ever since my friend told me about there veil piccata, I had to go and try it for my self. I took my gf with me and one other couple. I absolutely loved it! The veal was exquisite tender and full of flavour. The people were friendly and nice it made you feel right at home. I would def go back.

Great tomato Sauce. I had dinner in this place just once and I really liked the pasta and the tomato sauce. I'm Italian so I'm really picky with my pasta but it was pretty good. When I was leaving the place I also noticed that the chef sells its own tomato sauce which is nice I believe. The service was not excellent though, I think it will be cool to have a server that at least knows few words in Italian or how to pronounce what is on the menu, it makes everything more authentic.

Vaticano is the grinch that (almost) stole christmas. AWFUL.
I surprised my partner with a Christmas Day meal to Vaticano - chose it because of it's vegetarian and gluten-free options, as well as the fact it is pretty fancy. We've had a hard year; I wanted to be spoilt.
The service was atrocious, not only was the waiter brusque and rude but he wasn't clear that the menu had changed in the last few weeks and they no longer served pizza. He was so unnecessarily rude. We then waited 15 minutes before anyone came to serve us - no offer of drinks...nothing, and by that time we were putting on our coats.
They told us they were under-staffed but since this experience I've heard the service is bad no matter what time of year.

Meh, is the one word that comes to my mind while trying to describe this place. I used to think it was a pretty difficult task to be able to make bland, tasteless tomato sauce. But Vaticano proved me wrong, apparently it's easy to do. Not only was my pasta almost $30.00 which is outrageous for a city like this (come on, it's not Manhattan), but it tasted like absolutely nothing except maybe over cooked dough. The sauce was so watery it wouldn't even stick to the noodles. I do not recommend this place, at least not for the pasta which unfortunately makes up half the menu. If you want something similar to this but that doesn't cost you $30.00, I suggest having a relatives or close friends new born baby make you dinner.

Horrible! That is the first word that comes to mind when it comes to this restaurant. My family and I went to celebrate my mom's birthday we all so disappointed. The service and food was the worst we have ever experienced. This restaurant does not give this location justice. Save your money and go some place else.

Horrible. Honestly the worst restaurant I've ever eaten at (and not just Yorkville Restaurants...across the board). Really Disappointed.

Quality of the food was average at best and not consistent with Yorkville standards and definitely not consistent with price. Over priced for what we got. Small portions, cold steak, over salted pasta. Plain.

Took us 2 hours to get our food!!. Reservation at 8:00, we started eating at 10:00. Waiter was no where to be found.

Offered little in the way of compensation for the lateness. We had to ask for them to do something, they didn't offer. They gave us a round of shots...big deal, we were a party of 8 people, and we all ordered wine. Most restaurants would throw in the shots regardless for that size party..

Oh and we had to seat ourselves (me and my gf got there after our initial party), no one acknowledged us as we entered. After 5 minutes of just standing in the door way, I just decided to seat myself.

Spend your money on a more deserving restaurant. Man this place was lousy.

AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE. Absolutely amazing food, just went there for winterlicious. Everyone ordered off the winterlicious menu (which had a very good selection for vegies, chicken eaters, beef eaters and two types of fish.. BUT i decided to order off the menu which was fairly priced. IT WAS AMAZING.. so fresh! Very authentic, people there are great as well.

Even the soup and bread was delicious.
All Over Town
Holy Vaticano!. A great urban refuge with home made pasta and sauce. Great service and great mains. The lasagna should be avoided but everything else is very well done.

Please save your money as you are paying for loaction NOT food quality. It doea not give me pleasure to write this as our entire group was looking forward to trying the food and we all agreed that it was of average quality and way over priced.

Steph was highly displeased with the dish and commented that it tasted like it came from a microwave. When our server came to our table to ask us how the food was and Steph relayed her opinion to him, he didn’t really apologize for the sake of the restaurant except to say that it wasn’t possible because their restaurant only makes their food fresh.

Vaticano is located in the heart of Toronto’s Yorkville hood. I marched to the restaurant with my Aunt Susan on a warm summer evening with the spirit of celebration. The previous week Susan had officially retired after over twenty years managing the art program at Appleby College in Oakville.
Vaticano Trattoria ( @VaticanoToronto ) is an Italian restaurant located in Yorkville. It is actually interestingly situated underground but there are areas for patios. The restaurant itself (inside) has a relatively low ceiling but it seems like a cozy place. We decided to sit outside due to the great weather that we are getting in Toronto these days. For summerlicious, they offered a $20 lunch menu For appetizers, we got the following… Cozze Gaeta – Mussels with fresh Tomato Sauce - The mussels were a bit smaller than expected. Could be overcooked? Calamari alla Griglia – Grilled calamari with Vaticano dressing - The calamari was served as whole, which I liked! What I mean by that is it wasn’t fully cut as picture below or served in clumps. It was a refreshing dish and extremely delicious. Highly recommend getting it! Filetto In padella - Sea Bass Fillet in a lemon capers sauce My friend and I was jokingly mentioning that we hope we don’t get a small piece of sea bass as it was lunch
