The food was delicious!! The pizza was made to perfection and the sauce had a delicate sweetness to it! The Chicken Parmesan was a great mixture of meaty cheese, sweet sauce and well made chicken. What topped it all off was when we met Connie, the owner. I see why her food is made so well, there is a lot of love and passion that goes into her restaurant and her food. We tried the desserts and I recommend the lemon sherbet on a hot day, the cannolis and Tartufo (so amazing)! It was a pleasurable experience all around and we’ll be going back soon!
Great time! I had a Calzone loaded with pepperoni, green peppers and mushroom (classic pizza style). I was hungry and it filled me up most excellently. Very tasty, came tomato pasta sauce for dipping too. The atmosphere is great. Windows were open to the outdoor patio so it had a great airy feel to it. Definitely will consider having some paninis here in the future before an Orbit Room show! I've walked by soooo many times but never been in, need to start changing that. ;)
My boyfriend and I had dinner at your restaurant Saturday evening. We received great service from your servers Silvino and Flavio. I wasn't sure on what to order since your menu has so many dishes on it. Silvino suggested the whole grilled rainbow trout. We both went with his suggestion and are happy we did since it was absolutely delicious. The trout was perfectly seasoned with lemon and garlic which complimented the fish so well. We had our fish with a side of penne, I had mine with alla vodka sauce and my boyfriend had his with alfredo sauce which were also both very delicious. Thank you for making our Saturday a 5 star evening. :)
This is our weekly dinner spot! We bring our son after swimming every Thursday. The food is always outstanding and the service is amazing! It's why our 5 year old loves to go - pizza and ice cream, doesn't get better than that, right?!
Price is also right for the amazing quality of food and service. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys great Italian food.
great, friendly staff and positive vibes, Definately will visit again for some more great sangria.
Congratulations on The Dip’s 50th Anniversary!!!
Time sure does fly! It seems like yesterday that Sam and I and our family and friends would be enjoying good times at the Dip. We have wonderful memories of those times and of celebrating special occasions together.
Favourite dishes have been, for me—Mussels with Sophie’s red sauce, and for Sam—Pasta Puttanesca or one of your delicious pizzas.
Below is a picture from Sam’s 70th birthday party in September 1997. Paul, face unseen, is standing at our table after just wishing Sam a happy birthday.
We also had a wonderful time celebrating The Dip’s 40th Anniversary. As you can see in the picture below, we had a great time, and really enjoyed dancing to the music.
Coming to The Dip was often a family affair. Our grandkids loved the pizza and sitting on the patio. When the little ones started to get restless, one of the parents would take them to the playground up the block. The grandkids would use some of their wonderful energy and then come back to The Dip for dessert. What great times!
We’re looking forward to celebrating your 50th anniversary in August, seeing you and your family and dancing joyfully! Sam, now almost 91 is as cool a dancer+++ as ever.
Looking forward to partying with you all!!!
Fondly,
Bobby and Sam

Love Cafe Dip. Live around the corner and it is my go to. With the sun coming out it's got one of my fav patios in the neighbourhood. Service is great.
Always great service and food! Highly recommend the gnocchi with the carbonara sauce!
This is Great place to eat Great food ,have Amazing atmosfer, and watch the sport on the Big screen love it !!!
I went here the last sunday because it was the only "Fuente de soda" available for watch the soccer game of the "confederations cup" (Chile against Alemania). The food was really good, except for the last pizza one of my friends ordered (tooo salty).
The Dip has the best patio on College St. That's why it's always packed. Food is good - usually Italian stuff like pasta, sandwiches etc. Great place to enjoy a sunny afternoon when you're in Iittle Italy.
Our server was very nice and attentive which I liked. I had the spaghetti aglio olio with pepperoncini. It was really spicy but tasty. The prices were reasonable. I would like to come back to try the pizza and calzone.
Went with friends for a drink and supper and enjoyed a great margarita and some reasonably okay chicken fingers. The service was great, with our server being extremely attentive and friendly. Definitely a fantastic place drink on a patio - maybe skip the chicken fingers.
Love the mussels!. I love coming here for their mussels in red sauce and onions! I've also had their Greek salad which was pretty basic. But in general the service is always great and I love sitting on the patio while sipping on a drink on a summer day.

Don't Come For the Food? Are you Stupid?. Suprised at all the negativity here. Granted the Dip isn't Fieramosca in ambience or style, but that's not the point of the restaurant.
The food is nothing short of great, regardless of what you have. The bruschetta pizza appetizer? You're telling me that's not good? Pizza's are bland? Ok, obviously you want non-authentic Pizza-Pizza over this stuff.
Regardless, of the dozen times I have been here in my life, not once has ANYTHING been amiss, and this is from 2005 to the present. After coming here for my first anniversary dinner, it was a fantastic experience and the food was as brilliant as ever.
Servers are all super nice and cheerful, the manager/owner/whatever can seem like a bit of an ignorant WOP but rest assured he isn't.
I'm not claiming it is a reason, but maybe everyone hates this place because of the fact that its run by dye-in-the-wool Italians, and they're still prejudiced against? Who knows.
The Dip is good, period.
Just never fails!. I’ve been going here for years and I’m never disappointed. The food is consistent, relatively authentic and is great for small or large groups! Another huge plus point is Diplomatico has a fantastic patio (popular so call ahead in summer). The menu is extremely flexible in that you can choose exactly which type of pasta you want with the sauce combination of your choice. The vongole, arrabiata and carbonara are particularly good and I usually pair them with penne. The only drawback is the portions can be a little hit or miss, sometimes you get a lot sometimes you get medium. If the latter is the case make sure you get the bread/oils and wash it down with a Guinness if the latter is the case.
I was at cafe diplomatico on college street yesterday for business lunch...I had their pizza for the first time and loved it! Perhaps the decor over here is kinda dated but if you are lOoking for tasty italian food in casual atmosphere this is the place to be. And they also make a mean Espresso! Makes sense why they've been around for 45 years.
Had the gnocchi with carbonara sauce. Really good although the gnocchi was a bit softer than I'd prefer. Good, laid back service. Food seemed fresh and came quickly. Nice, casual space. Good time.
Better than the ratings indicate. Sure the service can be spotty, but the location is great, the space is unique and the pasta usually pretty good. The vongole is a favourite.
Say what you want, I really love this place. It's not for nothing that it's been around so long. Love the patio in the summer. Best dishes are the cheese caneloni with bolognese sauce and the pizzas.
I was a regular until I moved away from Toronto; even had my photo on the wall for a while. I really loved the atmosphere, especially on the quiet nights (Wednesdays had fewer 905'ers). Food is not really what the place is known for. Still a good spot to hang.
Best Italian Food and Atmosphere in little Italy. Cheap aswell!
Good Sangria and great patio for the summer.
Last night, five girls from all over the city needed an easy place to meet for dinner. That place was Café Diplomatico. It's like an old friend who has been around forever, just waiting for you on College with decent white wine and really solid antipasto plates.
For a lover of Italian football, like boyfriend, the displays of fandom on Cafe Diplomatico's walls were arresting to the eyes. Service was a bit slow, but the servers were friendly. Our server in particular was so friendly that she shared the milestones of her break-up with us. Having recently moved in (and out) with her now ex-boyfriend after finding out about his alcohol and cocaine problem, our server was skeptical of couples that live together. I like to think that we changed her outlook on the topic, though, when we told her how soon into our relationship we moved in with each other and how happy we've been since. Needless to say, we'll probably be visiting Cafe Diplomatico again soon.
Each time I've gone to Cafe Diplomatico, I've been greeted by super friendly servers which has made my experience positive from the moment I step in. Service is always great.
Their menu has many options and I particularly enjoy the pasta dishes which you create yourself (there are some combinations to choose from as well). I love the caesar salad because the dressing is creamy and full of garlic and parmesan, and they toss it in the perfect amount.
The patio is great in the summer and has really cheap beer!

My Order: Tuna Melt, $6.50
When the weather was warmer awhile back (oh how long ago that was!), my friend and I wanted to find a nice patio to eat out on. We trekked along College St. to see if there were anything that tickled our fancy. We saw Cafe Diplomatico and their patio looked pretty decent. I wanted to simply check out the menu to see if there was anything that I would like to try. When we went in to pick up the menu, the owner (or at least I think he was), started ushering us in. He assured us that the food was going to be fantastic and there was no reason to hesitate. My friend and I were walking for quite some time now and the food seemed decent. So in we went!
I wasn't craving pizza, so I tried out their Tuna Melt sandwich. It was pretty tasty. My friend enjoyed his medium pizza and beer. He said that the beer was cheaper than in most restaurants. A pitcher of Bone Shaker was only $20, comparatively to $22-23 at most restaurants.
Overall, I had a pleasant time at Cafe Diplomatico. It was full by the time we were all settled in, probably because of the interaction the owner had with everyone passing by on the street! Would I come back? I think once is enough for me, but it's a nice patio along College if you are looking for one.
There are so many restaurants in the area known as little Italy, that you might not notice this place. However, this can never go unnoticed. When you walk past Diplomatico, you will be greeted by the little manager with his welcome Señor/ Señorita. Tip: Sit outside, the patio is beautiful and you can really choose from a main path or right at the back which is quieter. We had the daily special which was a Chicken Parmigiana with pasta. The portion size was enormous and a pleasure on the taste buds.
Stumbled upon Cafe Diplomático last night and loved it :-) Nestled in the heart of Little Italy, wonderful place to start your evening. Beautiful terrace with plenty of seating. Delicious pizzas, thin and crispy (and lots of fun ingredients). Wonderfully priced beers ($4.50 / Coors Light bottles). And excellent service! What more could you ask for? Seriously?!
A great casual place to get Italian food, in the area of little Italy. We were going to sit on their patio, but it looked like it was going to rain. If you can get a seat there, it will definitely make your experience even better! Ordered two pastas and the mushroom truffle bruschetta. It was really delicious and the waitress was always checking up on us. Love coming here and highly recommend if you’re in the area.
LOVED this restaurant. Portions are large & I enjoyed everything I ate. Got the bruschetta with mozzarella cheese, calamari, fettuccine chicken Alfredo, & a bacon tomato sauce that I forgot the name of now. The cannolis were also really yummy & piped to order. Can’t wait to come back, their calamari is honestly the best in town.
Wonderful food and reasonably priced with outstanding service. The patio is big and very well kept. As you can see from the photos I went there in early evening and no wait.
Great staff and service. We had an issue with veal parmigiano that was ordered and our waitress delt with the issue with such professionalism. Our kids loved their breakfast meals and my pizza was very satisfying.
An institution in Little Italy, where you just can’t go wrong with the food here.
Very freshly baked pizzas with absolutely faultless dough, toppings and cheese spread. In no way you feel bloated after eating their huge portions here, which I must attribute it to their use of fresh ingredients and olive oil.
Given the location, I expected prices here to be very steep but I was surprised that they actually have very reasonable prices for their pizzas and rates for toppings. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same case for the prices of pastas on the menu. Hence, the 5 stars are solely based on my experience with the bruschetta (appetizer) and the pizza.
We also took advantage of the “Sangria Mondays” where a pitcher of very fresh sangria is offered at $34 plus tax. Agreed that it is still pricey but I do recommend trying it at least once during summer.
Despite a busy Monday evening, the staff here maintained smiles and warm service at all times while they were on their toes.
Cool Italian place. They have great pasta and you can even make your own pasta. I sat on the patio outside at night, ambience was great. I didn’t wait long for a table. Menu price is mid range, not the cheapest but not very expensive either.
4 stars because although the server was nice and regularly checked up on us, there was a miscommunication about my girlfriends order and my gf ended up getting the wrong pasta sauce. But overall the food was really good.
This Italian restaurant right in the Heart in Little Italy, Downtown Toronto gives out homemade recipe meals where want to go again and again and again 😋 Their Outdoor patio is now open with covered shelter, though it's still been quite chilly outside. When one time picking up a order for a customer, couldn't actually move due of people or Staffmembers walking back and forth. Very popular. Guarantee this coming week, nice weather is awaiting everybody 😏 However going to try their foods. SkiptheDishes customers give this place a big thumbs up. That's for sure. Anyways good job 👍🏼
