Review Kinton Ramen - Toronto

SUNGSHIN LEE
Very disappointing broth. No flavor, broth just taste like they used milk instead of pork bone to make the soup. Tsukemen, dried dipping noodle was fine except it was drenched in sesame oil and sesame seeds. THIS IS NOT AUTHENTIC JAPANESE RAMEN. SHAME.

The ramen is fresh and flavourful. Amazing customer service.

One of my favourite ramen places in the city. Got the Pork Miso Ramen with thin noodles. Tasted amazing-- creamy with just a hint of spice. Doesn't come with an egg, so had to pay $2 extra for one (worth it because that's my favourite part lol). You only get 2 thin pieces of meat. I kind of wish they were thicker. Their pork gyoza and chicken karage always hit the spot. Server was friendly. She gave us water to start and refilled later on. The wait for our food was not long at all so that was a plus. Seating is one long table with stools so you may be sitting next to someone you don't know. But, hey! Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet!

Just ate here, and let me say it was amazing. They have a perfectly cohesive design and modern interior, not to speak of the food was delicious. I would definitely recommend eating here!

I ordered Pork Spicy Garlic ramen, tasty. Sitting was somewhat small, right next to others. I should not forget to add some toppings next time.

Customer service needs a lot of improvement. They served the wrong noodles and was not even apologetic. My other order was missing and when the server was asked for follow up, he kept saying it's on its way. After another more than 40 minutes of multiple follow-ups and 'it's on its way' response, they eventually admitted that they have given my order to another customer. Called the manager and a supervisor came instead with excuses like they are only human! I'm not taking that away from them but not owning to your mistakes and not listening to your customers is not acceptable. Will never go back!

Chicken miso and spicy veg miso was delicious as always. Keep coming for good food !!

Have returned. Kinton is okay. I have found the soup to be a little less thick, a little less robust than you would expect - I don't want to say watered down, but it doesn't have that rich mouthfeel that you should expect from good Tonkotsu. Its convenient and consistent.

Yum

Impromptu ramen dinner. Well priced. Was very busy the night we dined there. Ramen was hot and decent size portion. Definitely an improvement from my previous ramen experience.

Went to this place with family on 30th. Ordered Miso, Karaage Chicken spicy and Ramen. The place was busy and ambience is very well done. The food was tasting good. Staff was very friendly and prompt.

This is a no nonsense ramen place, they take ramen seriously. Small joint but great ramen. As you enter you reach the cooking area and seating. you can enjoy your ramen being prepared in front you.

you can choose from variety of spicy levels and choice of meat from chicken and pork. I have tried several options and like all the variants. My personal favorite is pork miso ramen along with gyoza and chilli karage.

Go and try if you like Ramen.

food - 5
ambiance - 5
Service - 5

There’s a style of ramen that relies in added flavouring like soya sauce, miso, etc. It is less pure in taste than extracting the flavour from seaweed. I ordered the miso flavoured pork ramen. I asked for mixed vegetables to be added to the broth, but that didn’t happen. The vegetables did not make it to the order. Clearly, the place is suffering from all the usual shout and anchor which drowns out the customers requests.

I did not enjoy the broth. I ended up ordering the mixed vegetables half way through, they were pretty rare.

This is a Summer post because I'm trying to cling on to the last bits of sunshine before Fall comes and then goes full Winter. . The only thing I really like cold in life are my noodles. It's almost as if I have an invisible radar for them that inevitably lands me in a restaurant with a bowl of chilled noodles in front of me. My favorites in no particular order are zaru udon, zaru soba, jjolmyeon, naengmyun and of course, ramen.

Weaker of the various locations of Kinton in Toronto. Still it carries the spirit of the chain and this directly translates into the deliciousness and powerful flavours for the many broth options!

However with four other shops in the city why settle for the one on Queens other than for convenience?

I came here for lunch seeing their chicken ramen combo. It includes one chicken ramen, 2pcs karaage and 2pcs gyoza. The fried chicken and gyoza were very delicious. I think they did better than other ramen restaurants. But the chicken soup for ramen was not as great as I expected. The thin noodle and chicken breast were good which made me not feel that much disappointed. Overall, I had a quite nice lunch here. I would definitely try their pork ramen next time.
Cris
The ramen was good and it's great that there is a chicken option as most ramen places have pork only or vegetarian. The place is pricey though because any add ins that a lot of other ramen places would already give you (egg, seaweed, etc) are extra.

Rich, umami broth, toothsome noodles, super prompt service. But I will never return, nor forget the sight of the cook dip raw chicken into karaage batter, dip the battered raw chicken into the oil, then turn to rinse his hands briefly under running water--and then touch the rims of noodle bowls, and use his same unsoaped hands to sprinkle fresh green onions onto freshly-assembled ramen and serve it to unsuspecting guests. Then to turn to the raw chicken and continue to dip more raw chicken into karaage batter; rinse, and reassemble and repeat. I get that washing with soap, repeatedly, dries out hands, but how about some vinyl gloves and a dedicated karaage/raw chicken station, then? Despite the delicious meal, I cannot bring myself to go back.

Fried chicken in soup! Man it was as tasty!!! A bit pricey but very delicious if you want a quick meal and don't mind sitting close to people.
The Primlani Kitchen
Sadly the insipid broth and soggy noodles left me desiring for more. Courteous and sweet staff, pleasing prices but the lack of flavors questioned the hype around kinton.

Noodles are good but I find the broth a little salty for my liking. The gyozas are great though! The karage chicken is okay - not one for the fried chicken...
Picky Diner
When I finally found Kinton, I was sweaty, hungry, and exhausted.

I started my meal with a bottle of ASAHI BLACK ($7). Oh god bless those poor souls who spend $7 on a can of Canadian on Westjet. :)

I decided to get the Ramen Combo Special – with $2 more, I could choose a side dish to go with my regular ramen bowl ($10.90). So I picked Gyoza. The deep fried dumplings were cooked nicely with a crunchy exterior. The filling had a strong garlic/chive flavour, and the spicy mayo sauce was rich as well. I’m more of a fan of pan fried Gyoza, but I did enjoy those deep fried ones. And I chowed them down in a record time!

For Ramen, I had the options to pick from Pork and Chicken, different cuts of the meat, different broths (miso, shoyu, spicy garlic, etc), different levels of richness of the broth (light, regular and rich), 2 different types of noodles (thick and thin), and extra toppings for around $1 each. I picked Pork Belly Ramen with RICH Spicy Garlic broth, with thin noodles and no extra toppings. When it came, I was terrified by the big stack of finely chopped garlic on top of my noodle bowl. Well I did ask for it, didn’t I? But the spiciness of garlic complemented the rich and salty broth really well. I ended up enjoying the the noodle bowl a lot, although I hoping that I wouldn’t knock out Kyle with my garlic breath later on.

I came for lunch with a couple of friends and I found this place to be quite good for ramen. I had the miso ramen with pork belly topped off with an egg. It was very flavorful, and I was very impressed with how they did the egg. Usually ramen places undercook their eggs, but this one, was just the right consistency.

I would definitely come back here.

Visited this place for lunch. Went with Pork Ramen, Spicy Garlic, and Pork Belly. Very delicious! I would certainly recommend this restaurant. Lots of flavour.

Tales Of The Diluted Ramen. E: Shoyu Ramen will likely remain my favourite of the three basic kinds forever. Given a choice of the standard flavours of ramen, Shoyu (soy sauce), Shio (salt) or Miso my order will follow that order of things unless it is a matter of trying something new or different of course. Let’s talk about fish-based tsukemen ramen some other time! My Pork Broth Shoyu Ramen for $10.90 was not bad, but it certainly lacked the depth that a great ramenya would provide. The spice container came in handy. The quantity is adequate. The broth (you could customize the saltiness and whether you would like pork or chicken), noodles (thick or thin), chashu (pork belly or pork shoulder or chicken meat), bean sprouts, etc. were fine, but not spectacular. An egg is supposed to be standard in ramen, but it is not so at Kinton. It is extra and $1.50. Kamaboko (or Fish Cake) is supposed to be standard, but is AWOL at Kinton. And so it goes. At some point the greed takes over and renders the exercise silly. They did offer Nori (Seaweed) however! Having said that, their chashu is consistently larger than average.
The Takoyaki (Octopus Balls) bowl for $4.50 arrives with four steaming hot pieces. Those were indeed delicious. Good job. It is not quite Japan or Manpuku, but it is a better takoyaki than most.
In addition to the ever ready water ask for ramune and instead of the bottled version they do even better. The glass of lemonade with crushed ice for $3 was tasty and refreshing.
Oddly, for a chain whose name is the 'golden pork' Kinton 3 has copied Kinton 2 and offers chicken or pork broth choices. Those serious about ramen would choose pork broth. Those who are Muslim, Jewish or blockheads would choose chicken.
As oddly, Kinton does not have Toronto's best chashu. That honour falls to Santouka, but given their name Kinton could do a slightly better job.
Still oddly, Kinton does not prepare a Tonkotsu (Pork Bone) Ramen.
-
A: This being a franchise the owner has the formula down. The narrow restaurant, mix of counter and communal seating and the golden bricks on the wall are standard. The counter seating in front of the cooks is cool and traditional. Santouka and Raijin offer it, but not as well as Kinton. Sansotei and Isshin are not even built for it in the first place.
They were busy, but not quite sold-out. Western music is pumping out of the speakers and the waitresses and sole waiter scream out the orders somewhat. I say "somewhat" because it is not only the food that has been diluted with the empire's expansion. The welcome and roar and cheer of the original are largely absent here as well. Those are the pitfalls of success and franchising.
-
T: There is not a line-up here and one is immediately seated. Getting here by car and finding parking is impossible so get on the two feet or public transit of course. One is shown to the stools immediately, a menu is brought out, orders taken and water, drinks and food is served immediately. The waitstaff are almost too efficient.
Incidentally, as always to peruse and better acquaint myself I asked for the menus to stay behind and the waitress nonetheless eyed them greedily. They are probably short on them.
-
S: Kinton/Guu/et al have introduced Toronto to the jovial atmosphere that they pioneered here, but almost none of that has seeped to the Queen Street location. The ramen chef did nod and say good-bye on the way out, but that was it. Again, that does not affect one's reason for being there - ramen! - but it is either my imagination or the expansion of the franchise and ownership by a Korean businessman now resting on the momentum of his growth have muted what originally made Kinton Kinton – atmosphere as with the ramen. The service was good, the waitstaff were polite Japanese girls (and Canadian guy - just like Kinton 1 hmmm) eager to serve and so forth, but the ambiance has somewhat relegated to an afterthought. Just last week Kinton 4 was cited for failing two DineSafe inspections, which may be yet another symptom of the empire’s overreach. Although, in the case of Kinton 4, one has to be grateful for no other serious ramenya - aside from Niwatei - has discovered that there is a world outside the downtown perimeter. The pathetic inauthentic copycat ramen that is popping up everywhere naturally does not count.

Waste of money.. $16 for a spicy sub-par chicken ramen with corn and an egg.
Got it to go...I almost made it back to the office before the paper bag they packed my broth in gave out. Turns out they pack the SUPER-greasy, bland broth separately...and it leaks out the not-even-close to watertight takeout container into the paper bag, until the bag gives out mid-intersection. this wasn't even half a block away. Great! So I ended up paying $16 for some greasy broth, 1/3 of a salty chicken breast (frozen?), very little corn (1tbsp for $1?!), a softboiled egg and two sheets of nori laid on top. Also, 'spicy' is a misnomer. Freshly cracked black pepper is about as spicy.
Not filling, entirely unsatisfied with almost everything about this meal. Definitely won't be returning.

Save your money. Go to Noodleholics at Dundas/Roncesvalles and enjoy a wonderful meal there for half the price with twice the serving and flavor.

Not impressed. Alot of expectation for a bowl of ramen in GTA for my first time of my Tdot trip.. Dissapointing for the food But my waitress was kin and friendly but the food was mediocre. Pork belly was fat as F..K and a bit pricey

Poor Service - Take Out. Extremely disappointed! We are Kinton Bowlers and wanted to order takeout, BUT, apparently you can't call in to place an order. We wanted to order takeout, but were given the run around. We were told that we could only pay by gift card and then were told that the kitchen wouldn't take our order. Don't offer something you can't do!

My girlfriend took me to Kinton Romen on Queen Street because we wanted to try Japanese soup that we had heard about. It must be authentic because in addition to the staff all customers were Japanese. I would say aside from us all other customers were Japanese. It makes sense because Japanese eat Japanese soup I guess. Anyway it was too expensive to pay $11 for a fistful of noodles in water

The place feels really authentic, like eating at a japanese ramen shack. The ramen was good and the soup wasn't as salty as regular ramen (which is good). Also the takoyaki felt more authentic and tasted better! You get a stamp card for finishing the entire bowl (including soup).

DERRICIOUS?!?: Your belly will be satisfied after slurping down the ramen & broth. SLURP AWAY!!! Kinton Ramen , Queen St West location, is the 3rd Japanese ramen joint by the restaurant group. The menu is similar to the original one- the quality is consistent between both locations. I am very particular with my ramen- I usually only order one variety of ramen - the Pork Ramen with Shio Broth, with an added egg. I ordered the same for this location. The menu isn’t cluttered with options but there is a good variety. I like how you they let you choose a variety of options in your ramen, such as the type of broth (light, medium, thick/heavy), the type of ramen, and extra “accessories”, such as the egg. I only had the ramen and nothing else, but looking at other tables, the other food looks pretty decent as well. Great way to start or end a cold day!!! This is their 3rd location now in Toronto and happens to be closest to me. I had the shoyu pork shoulder with thick ramen. I had the rich soup base already but I still find the soup base was not really flavourful at all. The pork shoulder was just ok, there were parts of the meat that was very tough and hard to chew.

This was my first time getting ramen so I can't really compare my experience here with similar places. However I really enjoyed my meal here and will probably be trying some other good spots for ramen soon :)

There is very limited seating and you are seated with others at the restaurant, but that didn't take away from the meal and I was still comfortable at the table. Service was relatively quick, considering I went during the lunch rush.

I ordered the Spicy Garlic Pork Shoulder Ramen with extra pork, and a side of the Gyoza. The extra meat option gives you 3 times the normal portion of meat. While this probably wasn't absolutely necessary considering the portions are pretty good, it kept me very full until a late dinner. The flavour was great and the pork was lean but tasty. The Gyoza was a little too crisp, but was still really good! The sauce on the gyoza is awesome-sauce.

I'll more than likely be coming back here, I've got my eye on their Sapporo Big Mug (32oz) :D

not as loud and welcoming and exciting as their original location. They have lost their energy. Will go back to the original to see if the same is true for that location. By the way, their soup base is getting lighter and lighter

I do like this place...

The staff are always great and super quick and attentive! The kitchen crew are always yelling and are quite playful. The Ramen is pretty good, no frills to it, I definitely have had better, with more flavour though. I am also not the biggest fan of their little wooden stools and sitting so close to my neighbouring parties....

Kinton Ramen!! Best pork ramen I've ever tasted in my life.

The place is usualy packed during lunch hours. Even to get a takeout will take quite a bit of time, but all is worth it.

There are steps to order ramen from this place. You can pick the type of broth (pork, of course), level of broth richness, thick/thin noodle, soup type, meat options etc. My suggestion is to go all pork!! Go pork or go home.

You can also add additional toppings to the ramen. I usualy put an extra seasoned boiled egg to add more awesomeness.

Food: 5/5
Service: 3/5
Ambience: 4/5
Price: 5/5

I had heard quite a bit about Kinton Ramen from people around me. Decided to go for this. It was my first time eating Ramen, and I decided that it was best that I take someone who knows it best. Once you enter Kinton, you are hit with the scent of ramen through the place. We had to go for a take away and they have a really neat way to do it. They have a slips with check boxes on the kind of ramen you want. I went with the chicken broth, thin noodles, with chicken breast and corn. They give the broth and the noodles with chicken and corn in two separate containers. The food was really good, and I was full before I knew it. Highly recommended.

They have a selection of ramen with reasonable portions and excellent flavour. Their option to add pieces of pork, eggs, or other ingredients allows diners the ability to tailor their bowl of ramen as they desire. The establishment is very cramped however and is not suitable for large parties. But if you are looking for a good meal with a close friend in an upbeat atmosphere, this is the place to go.

Kinton Ramen Queen street is the best place to go for some delicious ramen noodles. The place is usually crowded most of the time and kind of loud as well with the servers screaming every time somebody enters the restaurant. My favorite is the spicy garlic ramen with rich broth and pork belly, absolutely filling and full of flavor. The sake hot or cold is pretty good as well, the service is great and quick even with the large amount of customers. The ambiance is great with communal type seating and reasonable prices.
