Review The George Street Diner - Toronto

Monica Lin
We didn't think the food was tasty, nothing particularly special either. There are definitely better brunch locations in Toronto. Service was great though. Limited seating, they won't seat you until entire group arrives.

I liked the place and food so much. I ordered Irish breakfast and grilled cheese. I felt that grilled cheese could be better. The place is small and gives you a typical diner feel. I went on weekend and it was super busy and unfortunately they don’t do prior bookings. The staff is friendly and kind. Highly recommended place for good food.

What a vibe! Unpretentious and casual spot for brunch. Got the Ultimate Irish Breakfast and it was quite hearty. The little figurines by the window really add a nice touch to the place. It's a busy place so expect a small wait. Highly recommend though.

Amazing place for brunch but only has like 7 booths? Worth the wait though!!!! Pleasant staff and fast service. I got the oh so delicious George Street Croque Monsieur (challah bread, melted cheese and roasted meat!), upgraded to have fries since they cut those in-house, and husband got the Irish breakfast. Looking forward to our next visit! *Drools*

One of the best breakfasts I've had in the city 🍞 [Food] I ordered the Ultimate Irish Breakfast and I enjoyed every bite of it. The standout was the soda bread, it was scrumptious. [Service] The waitress was lovely and sweet. I couldn't have asked for better service [Atmosphere] It felt like I was transported from the busy downtown to a small town diner. Everything inside this restaurant gives you a cozy feel.

Most authentic Irish dining experience in Toronto - tasted just like we were back in Ireland! We had to give the classic breakfast roll and chicken fillet roll a go and we were not disappointed. Lots of Irish goodies like penguin bars (refrigerated of course), tayto chips, and lucozade. Very friendly staff and had a lovely chat with the Irish owner. We will be back :)

Incredible service from everyone being cheerful and supportive. Our waiter stood out even in this quality team. Alas I didn't get his name. Being Irish I had the Ultimate Irish Breakfast, Holly had the standard and we shared. Everything was superb, but for me the blood pudding side really shined.

The food was quite delicious. The place is small and a bit tight for groups of 4+ but worth the stop. The irish breakfast are different than other places from the sweet beans and tasty bread, with well grilled meats. Another great and unique tasting meal was the french toast croque monsieur, making the sandwich a bit sweeter, softer bread and with the mustard it was delicious. Would come back.

Is brunching just for weekends?
🤔 I think not!
•
•
The setting @thegeorgestreetdiner really allowed for my friends and I to relax and catch up.
•
•
I had 3 eggs 🍳, baked beans, rye toast, hash browns and avocado 🥑
*not pictured is the HUGE fresh baked cookies 🍪 they had. It was was probably one of the best cookies I’ve ever had!
•
•
All I needed for that day!
IG @flaneuseeats

Very good food and service.

Don't judge a book by its cover. I was hesitant to walk in when I saw the outside but I would have missed a great experience if we had turned around.

If you're going for the first time, the Ultimate Irish is a must-have. Everything about it is perfection. This place is busy on a weekends, but service is super quick, so you're seated in a reasonable time.

I ordered the breakfast. It came with 7 french fries. I asked if that was normal, the rude hippy server said I will bring you a plate. Then charged me 4.50$ for fries. Rude, Dirty, Greasy, EXPENSIVE!
My clothes stink from sitting in the dinner.

Friendly, quick and helpful service and good filling portions of food. The waiters mentioned that the Irish soda bread was great here, so we got a side order of Irish Soda Bread to try it out and it was DELICIOUS! I would definitely come back and eat this again.

Living on the west side (Fort York area), we tend to stick brunch spots within a 30-minute walking radius, although we've been known to make exceptions. We headed to the east side to check out @thegeorgestreetdiner after a friend's recommendation, which was well deserved. There was a bit of a line, which was expected, but it moved quickly and we were seated at a table within 10 minutes. Quick and friendly service - loved that the staff were joking around and busting each other's chops. They turn over tables quickly without making you feel rushed. The food was fantastic - I had the Irish Breakfast and it definitely hit the spot! Their Irish soda bread and hashbrowns are delicious. Jason had the Pulled Pork Benny, which was also very tasty - well spiced with a great blend of sweet and spicy. Would come back again!

The incongruous building is a little box of cheer on an otherwise decrepit stretch of Richmond St E. It also serves a fantastic breakfast, as we finally discovered on a very rainy Saturday morning a couple of weeks ago.

Good food - pancake brunch with very fresh fruit and real maple syrup. Service is decent and atmosphere is fun. Definitely one to try and a good option to return to again.

Not a bad diner - but far from great!. Definitely stop in if your looking for brunch :)

But I think there are probably better diners out there!

Mediocre. I used to enkjoy coming here to have the pancakes and even for a late breakfast on weekends with my kids.
I decided to try the pancakes again but they now seem to come out of a box.

The devlopment around the area seems to have affetced the quality and it's lost that diner feeling.
A betterr Diner alternative is the Patrican Grill on King East.

Enjoyable. Hmmm..reading the reviews after having been there, I'm not sure I would have stopped in. So, I'm glad I did. Just visiting Toronto, and I thought prices seemed VERY reasonable to me. I pay more for less at my neighborhood greasy spoon in Seattle. What I did find was a very warm greeting when I arrived. A seat at the counter, where hot/fresh coffee was served immediately. A very fresh/hot Irish Breakfast also served up quickly. I noted everyone was greeted warmly when they walked in, and the place filled up as I was there...counter included. Folks next to me and I'd say everyone else seemed to be enjoying their food as well. I'd go back in a flash.

Arrogant, rude service. I came in at 9AM on a Sunday morning, when they were nearly empty, and was not allowed to sit at a table. Why? I was alone and 'they were getting busy'. There was NO line out front. I was the ONLY person coming into the restaurant and there were at least six tables available. but they were adamant, and rude to boot...so I left and went to the King Edward Hotel for lunch instead. They didn't treat me like poison because I forgot to bring a partner with me, and I'll go there--or ANYWHERE else--rather than eat at this arrogant, pretentious place again. They are a DINER, not the Cordon Bleu, and have no regard for the feelings of their customers. There's better food elsewhere, too.

Bad Food Poor Service. I would not recommend this place to anyone, the service is poor. I was served orange juice in a dirty glass, with oily finger prints on it, prices are high for the amount and quality of food received. My food was left on the pass right by an open front door for over 2 min's and when the waiter finally stopped socializing and brought my food it was STONE COLD.. I told the waiter my eggs were cold and he gave me attitude and snorted and took my food back to be done over, much attitude was displayed..when my food came back eggs were warm but I only had 4 pieces of potato on my plate, seems the rest of them had jumped ship..regardless I would never visit this establishment ever again. and I would not recommend it to ANYONE EVER..

Terrible Service The female.... Terrible Service
The female server did not smile.

I ordered a breakfast free of cheese and dairy and I stated I have an allergy.
Rancheros for 13.95

When the plates came, my meal was loaded with sour cream and buttery creamy eggs.
When I mentioned this to the server, she stated "well you said no cheese" and I explained yes I said that but also no dairy for allergy reasons.

I asked if the eggs had been cooked in butter, she said I don't know olive oil or something
So I asked if she could inquire.
She never got back to me about that because she stopped tending to our table and sent a different server to finish up

I opted to have the light and easy instead. 2 eggs, toast and fruit for $9.25

It arrived well after my three friends had finished eating their brunches.

The male server was pleasant.

However when the bill came, I was being charged for the $13.95 rancheros.
I asked to pay for what I had consumed, when I was informed that I had to pay for what I ordered.

I was leaving $14 on the table in disbelief, when the server told me I was short!
The bill was really $15.76 with tax I hadn't noticed the tax line as I was still so in shock. He's asking me to dig around in my wallet and look for more money.

Never again will I be a patron of a restaurant such as this.
Terrible female server, if the order had been entered correctly the first time or I she had apologized when I brought the error to her attention, or if I only had to pay for the meal I had eaten this situation would not have spiraled out of control.

I love this place. I love the Canadian Breakfast. I'm *moderately* vegan, so I get it without meat, and instead of eggs they give me avocado. And not just a coupla measly slices. They put at least half - if not the whole - avocado on my plate. Amazing! Delicious. I love the challah bread. I love the beans! I love the service! I love the atmosphere! Love love love it!

I don't usually write bad reviews, but I am compelled to because of the terrible food. First time I went, pancakes were undercooked. I sent them back (which I don't like to do) but let's just say this did not fix the problem. The 2nd and last time I ate there I ordered eggs and potatoes, how can you screw that up, right? Well the eggs were watery and the potatoes tasted like pure grease. Its too bad I won't ever return, the diner's ambiance is pretty good.

Love the breakfast!. One of the things I enjoy most about the GSD is the breakfast. What differentiates GSD from other breakfast/brunch places in the neighbourhood is its fabulous Irish soda bread and homemade marmalade. Absolutely DELICIOUS!!

Their breakfast menu is quite limited to the staples dishes you're used to seeing at any restaurants with some Daily Specials written on the chalk board up front. I decided to go for one of those, their Special Omelette, I read that it had some Spinach and Goat Cheese in it and that was good enough for me.

It may be a bit pricier than the usual breakfast joint but it is definitely worth it for the diner feel and the quality food they serve you. Definitely my go-to place after an early morning exam!

Pros: – Good portion sizes and prices – Classic diner feel Cons: – Really busy during weekend brunch with stressed staff – Food may

Georges is an Irish greasy spoon (actually, like all the staff is Irish) that serves up a great breakfast accompanied by house soda bread. If you're coming on the weekend, expect to be waiting in line if showing up after 10am.

I love the vibe of this place. Owner Ash Farrelly makes everyone family. Best ever grilled cheese with grilled tomatoes, great burgers and when I need healthy big salads. Everything is ethical and farm fresh including great eggs. A must visit.

One of the best grill cheese sandwich I have ever had!! They add avocado on it for a little extra but so well worth it!! In the summer they have freshly squeezed lemonade which is simply delicious. It has that diner feel right on the corner of George and Richmond! A nice escape from a crazy busy city!

Went again, it was amazing!! I had the mac and cheese and of course the lemonade, my friend got the Cali Club and she enjoyed it.

I love coming here. The staff is always so friendly!! I love how retro the whole place is!!
