There is good reason why this establishment has been a staple since the 60s! I tried their homemade cheeseburger, souvlaki and gyro and they were all excellent. All items were incredibly flavorful and juicy. Possibly the chicken was on the dry side but still tasted delicious. All that with a side of fries and onion rings came out to just over $20 - truly the best bang for your buck out there. Service was super quick and friendly. It is a bit of a challenge to find a table on a busy day so expect a wait and to compete with other customers for seating.
We tried the hamburger, the cheese burger and the fries! Everything was amazing and tasty. Loved the old school vibe, they even have a pac-man machine. Also the place's been around since 1960, you should definitely pay a visit!
Never try the fish and chips - I got the soggiest fried fish and chips ever ! that said, this place is good for their burgers cooked on charcoal. That's yummy :)

Amazing place to eat. The prices are unheard of in this city, you can get a very filling gyro that stuffed with meat and one of the best sauces that I have ever had in my gyro for under $6. The fries and gravy are also a great option, you can get chicken wraps, everything Ive tried so far has not let me down from their menu, at prices I really cant find anywhere else for their quality. The portions are large, and the prices are small, great bang for your buck. The only issue is the line ups, for great food at a great price, its well worth the wait.
Excellent service great food love the salad. Thanks for feeding our crowd on our busy days. We love you juicy burgers. We adore your luscious greek souvlaki dinners.
I had lunch today at Square Boy.
The old dude at the counter was a hoot. He seemed gruff and cranky but I think it was all an act. A guy ordered a pop and the old dude just stared at him. So the guy said he wanted a Coke. The old dude yelled at him, "No Coke, Pepsi!" (reminiscent of the Saturday Night Live skit). I was watching the exchange and laughed. The old dude caught my eye and smiled.
I ordered the homemade burger and a pop. The difference between the hamburger and the homemade burger is the hamburger is frozen and the homemade burger is freshly made in-house and bigger ... I'm assuming it's worth the extra $1 to get the homemade burger.
It was $5.60 for the burger, pop and taxes. The burger was delicious! It was well-seasoned and juicy. The bun was toasted but the top was soft, just the way I like it!
They have a good selection of Greek food too ... the chicken soulvaki on a pita looked yummy and I'll try the next time. I'll be back!
I went to Square Boy for dinner last night and ordered the Chicken Kebab on a Bun with a side of Fries & Gravy ($8). I waited 15 minutes for my order but it was definitely worth it. While I found the chicken to be a tad dry, it was seasoned well and complimented perfectly by a delicious tzatziki sauce and tasty toppings. The fries and gravy may have been the best I have had in Toronto. A throwback to the way things used to be! That's what Square Boy brings though - old school grub. I mean...the burger, fries and pop combo goes for $4.75. Where can you beat a deal like that!? I think I may have discovered a new "not so secret" gem for future BBQ cravings.
Old school drive-in on the Danforth that has been serving souvlakis and burgers for years. There's a reason why it still stays open... cheap, good food and big portions. It's a small joint with limited seating and can get crowded. It gets quite busy sometimes but luckily there was no line up tonight. Homemade banquet burger is only $5! Grilled to perfection alongside the chicken souvlaki on a bun. Tender, flavourful and big. Ask for extra lemon sauce and lettuce! It's there!
I visited this gem with my boyfriend after seeing the rave reviews here on Zomato.
I ordered the veal cutlet on a pita ($3.90) and onion rings ($2.90). My boyfriend purchased the gyros on a pita ($4.75). We were fortunate to go there when there was no line and within minutes, I had my delicious pita.
It was huge! I could only eat half before I gave the rest to my boyfriend so he could polish it off.
It was a great meal for an even better price. I'll be back.
Best Souvlaki's ever. Pork or Chicken both are great, never tasted another kind like it. Hamburger specials, Chicken burger specials and Homemade Hamburgers are good also add cheese and bacon to any burger becomes amazing. Price is amazing, but what you keep coming back for time after time, is their FRIES AND GRAVY. BEST I've ever tasted, ever.
This always busy, primarily take out spot on the Danforth is definitely worth waiting in line for. Do not let the outdated decor deter you from trying out some good fast food. Very inexpensive, large portions and absolutely delicious Greek staples (i.e. souvlaki, gyros, salad etc) keep bringing me back for more. Recommend!
(Remember...it is a cash only place!)
Always good food at great prices. Everything from the burger special ($4.95 for burger, fries and a soft drink) to the 1/2 chicken dinner is amazing. Don't let the line ups discourage you. It is well worth the wait. My wife and I have been coming here for over 12 years and will keep coming back.
It won't win any awards for its decor, but the meals are worth the line up (which can be long some times) Specializing in grilled greek items such as pork on a bun, and salads, you'll also find cheeseburgers, chicken and other beef dishes that will satisfy any craving.
Great Restaurant!. Best burger restaurant in Toronto.
Go for Greek. Ok, I have never tried the burgers there, but it seems that most people who dislike the restaurant complain about their burgers. I always order the souvlaki. Whether in a pita or bun or in a dinner, I'm never disappointed - good portions, reasonable prices. So I say GO THERE FOR THE GREEK FOOD and if you're looking for a good burger, check out one of the many gourmet BURGER places around the City.
Cheap eats. Man this place is a through back to the 70's... banquet burger, fries, canned pop gravy, under 7 bucks. ....processed burger is a bit small, but suggest you try the larger home made burger wow! all of their price s cheap CASH ONLY
Cheap and great. Large portions for cheap prices. Quick service too, with the line always moving. Their frequent cheers and smiles only add to the atmosphere of the place, giving you a true Greektown experience.
Cheap prices. Best chicken souvlaki on a bun in the city
A trip back in time!. Great take out place in the heart of East York. They serve the usual diner fair (poutine, fries, onion rings, steak/kaiser, etc.) but their Greek food truly is amazing. The pork souvlaki on a bun w/ extra tzatziki was amazing and at less than $7.00 was totally worth it! Interestingly enough its one of the few places left in the city that has still retained the original 80s feel and prices.
Whenever I want a chicken souvlaki on a bun this is my go to place.
For your money there is nothing better
Burger, fries and pop for $5.65!?!? Is this 1912 or 2012!?? Ok, there are better burgers in town, no doubt. But none are better for the price. Downright tasty, actually. The fries were golden and tasty, can't ask for more really. Beer is priced at $3.35 a bottle. Amazing. I'll be back.
Square Boy and Johnny Burger in Scarborough are the two best Greek style burger/greasy spoon places in the city. Hands down.
Great chicken souvlaki on a bun or pita for $4.80 including tax. Nice tomatoes, onions, tzaziki and sauce. You can't beat their flavour at twice the price.
Can beat combo for under 5 bucks. Square boys is legendary.
Best Gyros in town.. Yeah yeah yeah - I know - supposedly Messini's has the best gyros. Both my wife and I disagree wholeheartedly - Messini's has good gyros, but Square Boy? The best! I am so glad I live a 10 minute walk from here because if it was any closer I would probably weigh 300 lbs+ because I wouldn't eat anywhere else - it's that good - looking for a quick, super-tasty meal, cheap? This is the place.
Amazing prices, great and friendly staff and on top of some fantastic burgers, the souvlaki and more specifically the Gyros is second to none...
Danforth Legend. This is the ultimate Greek Restaurant in Canada. Everything on the menu is so delicious. Meat is always plentiful with very little grizzle or fat. Burgers and souvlakis are laden with toppings. Gyros on a pita are always overflowing. Same guys still working there from time I went to high school means nostalgia. I'm not a big fan of their patio, but the booth seats inside are spacious enough for a close family dinner. If you have not eaten here go-go-go. 9.5/10 stars.
Best chicken souvlaki In a pita in Toronto! Feels like I'm stepping into time warp-40 years back to the 70's.
The food is amazing! But Even if it wasn't, I'd still go just to hear the greek guy at the counter say 'hamburger special' lol
Cheap and Great take out.. This place is great. The staff run like a well oiled machine. Orders are fast, correct and no nonsense. There is often a line up but it goes quickly.Souvlaki is fantastic, only wish is that they offered potatoes instead of just fries which are just your basic frozen kind. Best idea? Go in and have a beer while you wait for your order. Cash only.
Excellent quality of food for a great price...been going there for over 9 years and will always love it. The guys who run it are classic and always awesome!
That 70s Place! Straight out of the 70's, from the menu board to the guys working there (I think they all started in the 70s and have been there ever since!) The best is the homemade hamburger! Perfect for apres-bowl!
The Best Greasy Food, Anywhere. Enough said.
This place doesn't look like much but the food is great! If you don't have cash, go to the bank first. Also if you're in line to place your order, don't be on your cell phone. All their items are $5-7 unless you want a dinner plate which will be about $10. They also serve beer & wine for $4. I don't know what they do to their soulvaki chicken or what's in that lemon sauce they add but it's so good and always leaves me wanting more. The chicken is always juicy and never dry. The banquet burger is a hit however I always go for the chicken soulvaki on a pita with fries & gravy.
This well-known Danforth burger joint originally opened as a drive-in in the ‘60s. Square Boy has been serving-up amazing fast food ever since. Recently renovated, it’s now only the prices that seem to be stuck in the past.Their Homemade Cheese Burger is 8oz of Greek-spiced chuck, served up with all the trimmings. Don’t be shy to ask for lettuce; they’ll grab the bowl from under the counter. Add a side of Fries & Gravy and a well-priced beer, and you’ve assembled perhaps the best burger combo in the east end of town.Pork & Chicken Souvlakis are charcoal broiled, doused in a house aioli, and then garnished to order on a bun or pita for a meager… or as a combo.
Feeling hungrier? Square Boy rotisserizes chickens all day long. They’ll cut one in half for you and serve it atop my favorite Greek Salad in the city. There are a lot of reasons why my wife and I miss living on the Danforth. Square Boy’s food, location, parking and service all rank high-atop that list. Thank goodness I still work nearby.
First time and glad I visited Greek Palace. Great tasting food, good portions. The tzatziki was on point. Definitely recommend if you are looking for great tasting Greek food and not the fast food or frozen variety.
Ordered takeout over the phone today, wanted to get some lovely Greek food. I actually thought I was ordering from a restaurant that my friend recommended, it was a great mistake that I ordered from this restaurant instead. Food was hot a fresh and super tasteful. The person I spoke to was super friendly and gave amazing service, he recommend the chicken dinner and pork dinner, which I ordered. We also ordered the Greek salad. This restaurant seems like a gem right across Pape station, easy to miss but when you walk in...amazingly welcoming! All the food they were cooking smelled amazing and looked so fresh! Food was ready as soon as I walked in and I was greeted by the person I spoke to over the phone. I tried the chicken and pork which were both flavourful and great! Based on everything this great restaurant deserves 5 stars for service and food and this is only just based on take out! Can’t imagine what it would be like eating here!
Such an unassuming greek restaurant right across from Pape station.
The decorations are old but I really like the old school charm feel about it.
The potatoes are very lemony.
Really like that pork souvlaki dinner came with stick out.
Calamari was so so good.
The staff was very nice and welcoming.
This is a very lovely restaurant with lovely, friendly and attentive staff. It's just opposite Pape station and I wandered in. Food was great and delicious and the waiter put me on to an AMAZING hot sauce that I'll definitely go hunting for.
Great food and friendly service...authentic and family owned/operated. Lamb chops and potatoes were amazing!
The absolute best place if you are looking for comfort food of the Greek kind. I’ve had everything on the menu over the last 30 years and have never been disappointed. The prices are also very reasonable. You get a lot of great food for a modest price. Of course my mother cooked the best Greek food, but the Palace comes in at a close second. The owners and family are also very warm and welcoming and make you feel at home.
Great food! Authentic!
If your going to the Danforth this is the only place to eat authentic and delicious Greek food! Everything made from scratch.
Saganaki as a starter! Lamb chops soft , succulent and flavor burst in your mouth.
really great experience here! The price is reasonable, and the staffs are so friendly and warm hearted!
