Review Banjara Indian Cusine - Toronto

Tanzeel Merchant
This restaurant has been around for years and the food continues to be consistently great. The staff were attentive and helpful. The food is well spiced (you can choose- we picked medium). They have a varied menu with lots to choose from. The food came out quickly and was fresh. Clean, bright and welcoming, it’s the perfect spot for a weekend lunch. The prices are reasonable too. Parking is convenient and it’s an easy walk from Christie Station.

On our recent trip to Toronto we ate the Banjara restaurant and found the food to be of really good quality and well cooked. We had their thali which was amazing! Just a word of caution if you're after super Spicy food then theirs is just that. We ordered their super spicy prawns and weren't disappointed. Their Chai and naans are great too. The staff there are very polite and helpful in recommending dishes. The food isn't overly priced either. Definitely worth a visit.

Went with a group of friends yesterday to enjoy the feel of indoor dining before it all goes away again. This place serves a variety on non veg Indian curries from butter chicken to chicken madrass and have quick service. What we ordered:- Appetiser: Full Chicken Tandoori- served as a sizzler on your table with mint and imlii chutney. The taste was on point! Haughty recommended Mains & Breads: Butter chicken, Chicken Madrass, Mutton curry and paneer lababdaar with some naans and laccha parantha. All the curries were on point, very tasty. I wish the quantity served was a bit more. I loved the taste and size of their breads. I highly recommend ordering ka ja parantha and naans from here they are the best and freshest I have eaten in the area yet. Cost: We were a group of 6 and it costed us around $26 per head. Which is pretty economical in downtown and I was absolutely satisfied with the quality and taste of the food.

Loved all the 3 curries we got! Had lamb roganjosh, palak paneer, chicken madras. It’s the first time that I taste sweet in palak paneer which is interesting. Would prefer if it’s less sweet but the flavour was good! Really liked madras! Creamy and flavourful. The lamb was the spiciest one out of all (we had medium for all the curries) The naans were so good and soft! Probably the softest I ever had

Delicious Indian meals, everything about the food was perfect….until…. well… Until a cockroach traveled from the left side of the table, avoiding our plates and smoothies, to the rightmost side of it. My friend swiped it away on the floor… Grossed out, we stopped eating, raised to leave and saw another one, dead on the floor. There were lots of fruit flies too, on the wall… I try to be impartial in all my reviews, but it is the first time this ever happened to me (and my friends). So Yes…. Food is really fine, but I, personally wouldn’t order again until I got the confirmation that they sanitized the installation in some way. So, 10 for the food, minus 9 for the cockroach and flies….

Excellent food quality and quantity. Myself being an Indian, I absolutely enjoyed the experience. Must visit restaurant for sure. Try different Thalis. They are the best.

Ordered butter chicken from this place after looking at their overall rating as well as reviews for butter chicken. It turned out to be one of the WORST BUTTER CHICKEN'S that I ever had No flavor. Chicken pieces were not cooked in the tandoor. I strongly suspect that, the reviews which say the butter chicken is amazing, are fake (paid reviews or reviews given by friends and family) I should have decided not to order after seeing some other reviews which also mentioned that this place is horrible I wanted to post this review on the day I ordered from this restaurant but for some reason my review was saved as a draft and not posted. I only noticed it today

Staff was very friendly. We didn't have to wait long for our food. Masala dosa and pani puri were spot on. I will definitely come back to try more things on the menu.

I go here for Biriyanis, the best I have had so far. I am a vegetarian, and finding good vegetarian spicy biriyani with paneer or gongura flavours around here is difficult. This is the best you can ask for. The prices are quite reasonable too. A definite Go-to for biriyani cravings. Their other indian dishes are quite good too, special mention for their appetizers like paneer dishes or papdi chat.

Food was fairly good, but the temperature at the time of serving it on table was of concern.

Food needs to be brought hot.

Everyhing else ( qty./ spice level) was spot on ..

There isn't much question when it comes to Indian food in Toronto - most locals will tell you that Banjara is the best. Located practically in Christie Pits Park, this Bloorcourt Village restaurant has been around since 2003 with Chef Raj Veerella at the helm. They've even expanded into two locations. It was a done deal for me when I saw that NOW Toronto voted them #1 Best Indian Restaurant 2018, and of course that blogTO has them listed as the #1 Best Butter Chicken and #1 Best Indian Restaurant in Toronto. I was very excited to experience it all for myself and visited on a Saturday evening. They don't take reservations for parties smaller than five people but due to the restaurant's specious dining areas they often have plenty of room to seat everyone. I also appreciated the fact that they have their own dedicated parking lot, something very rare for restaurants located in the core areas of the city.

As previously mentioned, the space is quite large and you will immediately be met with a buzzing restaurant and tantalizing aromas upon entry. There are several dining rooms, including an enclosed patio area that allows for a lot of beautiful natural light. The overall decor is fairly modest but you will find colourful sari-style curtains and brightly painted walls. The room is full of busy servers moving plates back and forth. I was happy to be seated in the patio area, right next to the window.

The menu is very long and involves many different categories. I would almost advise to look at the menu online in advance so that you can arrive prepared! We were immediately delivered a basket of Papadum along with two sauces; a sweet tamarind chutney and a green chutney made with mint and cilantro. Papadum is a type of thin cracker. Light and crispy, this one was delightful to munch on as we waited for our order to arrive.

The next thing that I always take care of right away in Indian restaurants is ordering a Masala Chai (Indian milk black tea infused with ginger and cardamom - $3.99), quite possibly my favourite beverage of all-time. Or at least one of them. There is nothing quite like a proper Indian restaurant chai. It's not at all like what you get in coffee shops. This one was exactly the way that I like it, not too sweet and full of warm spice. Chai often gets served with sugar on the side but I never use it. I find that the perfect blend of spices is usually great just the way that it is.

There is also a rose lassi on the menu that I absolutely want to try next time!!

Back to the food menu, you'll find sections for; appetizers, soups & salads, tandoori sizzlers, chicken, meat delights, seafood delights, vegetarian dishes, rice dishes, breads, side orders, and desserts. Like I said, there's a lot. We decided to begin with a starter and zeroed in on the list of pakoras. With six types available, it had to be the Fish Pakoras (Rolled in chickpea batter and deep fried - $7.99 for six). We had ordered these from the starters section in hopes of having them as an appetizer, IE: before the rest of our food. However, these arrived after the rest of our food. This kinda defeats the purpose of a "starter," doesn't it? Regardless, they were enjoyable and I found them to be unique among all other fish pakoras that I have had in the past. I'm accustomed to my fish pakoras being mostly akin to a fishstick, with a pretty indiscernible "fish item" on the inside. This is not the case at Banjara. The fish inside of these pakoras was REAL. I could clearly see that it was a large, juicy piece of pink fish (possibly trout) with the skin still on. I appreciated this a lot! Pakoras always taste amazing dipped in tamarind chutney and these golden-brown, perfectly fried and crispy fish babies were no different.

Our food came out extremely quickly upon ordering it (apart from the pakoras, which took longer). Our friendly server recorded our order efficiently and a parade of various servers delivered our array of bowls and plates soon after. Of course we ordered the Butter Chicken (Banjara's most famous dish - chicken tikka (white meat) cooked in the tandoor, then simmered in a creamy tomato gravy - $15.99) given its reputation of being the best in the city. I loved this. The hype is real. The pieces of chicken were large and juicy. The sauce was a gorgeous velvety bath of richness. There was a slight smokey flavour to the dish that really made it deliciously unique. A delicate mix of spices played in the smoke. Up until this point the best curry dishes that I'd ever tasted were from Lahore Karahi in London, England. This butter chicken totally compares and is worth visiting Banjara for. I will be dreaming about it.

Next, from the Vegetarian Dishes section, we ordered the Navratan Korma (Potato, baby corn, paneer, peas, beans, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower & mushrooms in a creamy cashew gravy - $12.99), another favourite dish of ours. Otherwise known as "vegetable korma," the word navratan refers to the nine key ingredients that make up the dish. We were asked about our spiciness preference for this one and selected for it to be "medium" in spice. I enjoyed all of the big pieces of vegetables and the creamy cashew gravy was nice. Overall, it wasn't my favourite dish of the night (see butter chicken, above) but it was a nice way to get more veggies into the meal.

Next are the items that are musts when dining Indian. If you don't order naan and rice with your Indian food then you have made a big mistake and are doing it wrong. Banjara has eight different types of naan to choose from but we stayed pretty classic and ordered the Butter Naan (Traditional north Indian bread made from organic white flour, eggs, milk & honey, baked in the tandoor oven. Leavened with yeast - $2.75). Although the cheese naan sounds like a party that I would like to be invited to. Note that this price is for ONE naan. Not a "basket" of naan or anything like that. I would recommend at least one naan per person. Like the chicken tikka (used in the butter chicken), naan is prepared in the tandoor, a cylindrical-shaped oven. In Indian cuisine, naan is used in place of a knife and fork. This is why the pieces of meat or vegetables within curry dishes are always bite-sized. The idea is to rip sections of the naan off and to use it to pick up pieces of meat, all while sopping up some of the sauce at the same time. This creates a unique and interesting hands-on experience that I always enjoy about dining Indian. This naan was decently good, however I did find it a little bit dry and not as warm and chewy as I would have liked. I also didn't find it very buttery even though we specifically ordered the butter naan.

As for rice, Banjara has six different rice dishes to choose from. It might have been one of the most expensive, but I definitely wanted to try the Saffron Rice (Saffron infused rice with a touch of cream - $5.99). I am so glad that we went all-in on the rice because this rice was exceptional! I often order rice practically due to obligation but this rice was something very special. Used as a base for the various curry dishes, one typically puts some rice down on the plate and then ladles the other dishes on top. However this rice was so delicious that it was almost a shame to cover it up with something else! I found myself eating it completely bare! The combination of floral, aromatic saffron and light creaminess made this some of the best rice that I've ever tasted.

One unfortunate thing is that we ordered the homemade original yogurt as a side order because I often like to drizzle a little bit atop my dishes for some added cooling creaminess. However this dish failed to arrive and never showed up at our table. We weren't charged for it, of course.

I couldn't miss out on dessert and wanted to try Banjara's Rice Pudding (Rice and milk simmered to perfection with saffron, carrot & cardamom - $4.99). I found this dessert to be curious. It was almost all liquid with very little rice. I'm used to a more creamy rice pudding, whereas this one was more of a sweet soup with a small amount of rice floating around at the bottom. It still tasted quite nice, very aromatic, but it seemed to be missing the body of the dish.

Overall, I really enjoyed the meal that I ate at Banjara. While there were a few items that were only so-so, the dishes that were great were truly exceptional. I would love to try their lamb curry and will surely return the next time that I get hit by an Indian food craving.

One of my favorite indian restaurants in eglinton. They have a variety of options and also combos to choose from. The lamb korma was delicious and the meat for tender. You can change the spice levels to your preference and all the dishes that I tried were delicious. They have a variety of vegetarian options too. Highly recommended!

One's mouth waters already while walking along Bloor from Christie Pits with the aromas wafting over from Banjara which is just at the southwest corner of the park. The interior space is divided into two long rooms with an outer bright atrium and another inside. The staff are fast, friendly and informative about the food which is EXCELLENT - veg or non-veg as well as North & South Indian (with terrific dosas & thalis) with good drinks including tasty lassis.

The food taste sooooo good that you'll feel that you're sitting in a restaurant of delhi
Palak paneer with a naan is just amazing
And moreover the quality of the food is among the best!
Highly Recommended
I was actually very happy to be at Banjara. It serves Indian food that is remarkable. Chicken tikka and chicken curry are the very popular varieties to try. Chicken tikka being less spicy but taste is outstanding. The indian spices are well minced that gives the starter very original Indian taste.
Chicken curry has gravy that is spicy and not too thick. And can be had with rotis or rice.
Boneless chicken pieces are soft and taste is authentic.

Late night takeout visit. Decided to try the combo dish. very good and the best is that Indian cuisine doesn't suffer transporting it home. As always, the nan is crazy good here.
Always busy and for a good reason, it is good food!

The place had a spot for parking outside their shop which made it convenient for us. The ambience of the hotel was good it had Indian music playing in the background to get you indulged in your meals. The quantity was sufficient for 2 people and i would recommend you to try their house mix grill as that was just great. Also the fact that they can make it extra spicy since Indians such as myself enjoy eating spicy.

The food is very tasty. The place seems small but the service is good. Were disappointed by the samosas served. They were uncooked inside. Overall a good place to try Indian food. Recommend trying it out.

The first place in Toronto that I had Indian food.. Was beyond my expectation and actually so much better than restaurants in India itself. The food was outstanding.. The papad was pretty good. Could have done with a little less oil, but Indians won't complain. The samosas were okay. The flavor was kinda bland for Indian tongues, but was good nonetheless. Then the main course. Mix vegetables, paneer and garlic naan.. Oh so good ❤

Fabulous selection of Indian cuisine, great service, comfortable ambiance, good value. Five of us enjoyed my wife's birthday celebration, we all ate different selections that we enjoyed thoroughly. The dinner combos are a great way to sample the menu.
The lamb is a real winner,
Our clothes still smell of curry,
You Gonna Eat That?
Didn't live up to the hype. But I wasn't thoroughly disappointed.
Personally I dig matar paneer and theirs wasn't bad. The tandoori shrimp had zero flavour, and I couldn't get the smell out of my fingers for 2days. Goat curry my friend said was palatable and everything else we had was fair.
I hate having to axe* for napkins to blow my nose or wipe down with. But they were decent about it and keeping my glass of water full.
Overall good selection of dishes and I would return, but that may have little to do with them....
Pablo
You know that myth about restaurants being good when busy? Definitely true. We had the vegetarian mix. Excellent option for sharing different dishes. Price was also surprisingly cheap.

The choices for good and upscale Indian Food in Toronto are pretty less. Banjara doesnt even make an effort to be in that category. The Vegetable Choices and tastes are so std. Strictly recommended only if you are dying to get your hands on some Indian food.
Rathod Nidul
A decent place serving North Indian cuisine. We ordered Paneer tikka as a starter and for the main course Paneer makhani, Vindaloo Beef and Vindaloo lamb with Chicken biryani. The taste was good. Even though the naan which we ordered came like superlate. It was a good experience overall.

Must try for sure.

Not a good place to visit. I have been there previously and their food used to be good. I ordered chicken tikka masala. They served in a small bowl filled with huge tomatoes and no curry at all. It was such a sad dish that we ended up paying $13 and even 2 of us couldnt eat. It's highly overrated place and i will never go again. Atleast for people who visit them often they should be considerate in their servings if they charge more. Not good experience

Great place!

Food is served hot and stays so.

Delicious food. Generous portions for a very good price.

Friendly staff.

Will come back again for sure!

I've been coming to Banjara for years and was a loyal customer. When I lived in Toronto this place was my go to spot when it came to Indian Food. I've been here numerous times and I've always left satisfied. I've since left the city and whenever I came back I would check it out - always good. Until my last visit.

I was there with my family and two really good friends. We all ordered the dinner combos and picked our main protein dish. Our food arrived promptly but when it did we were all very disappointed. All of the side components of the combo were COLD. I mean they weren't even remotely warm. The daal, pakora, potato cauliflower curry-side were cold. It seemed like these elements were pre-cooked in advance and they just slopped on. The saving grace was the main protein dishes which were all hot and good. But the fact that everything else was cold was very disappointing - every single person on the table had the same issue (6 of us). The last problem was when my friend found a fly in his drink.

Overall Banjara use to be amazing. But it's a whimpering shadow of its former self. Never coming back.

The food at Banjara is very authentic and absolutely flavourful. The menu holds a large variety of different curries and dishes that is so difficult to choose from. The chicken tikka was very tender and juicy. The chicken vindaloo was also absolutely delicious.

The best Indian food in Toronto for sure! This place is always crazy busy, and you can always smell the food from all the way down the street! You really can't go wrong at this place. All their meat dishes are absolutely delicious. Their vegetarian options are all amazing as well. And their garlic naan bread is just something special... Anyone who doubts that they will like Indian cuisine needs to go here, because I swear no matter what your tastes are they have something amazing for everyone!

I ordered from this restaurant last week and half way through my meal I discovered I was chewing on a staple. Yes, you read correctly, a STAPLE! I contacted the restaurant by email about this with a picture and I did not even receive a courtesy response. Nothing, nada. This is how they treat their customers. The food also took over 2 hours to arrive. An extremely dissatisfactory experience, take your money elsewhere people!!!

Good service, decent food they use nice mixtures of flavors and spices. Chicken Biriyani was good and flavourful. Food tasted very fresh. Portions are a little small compared to other stores. Would come back again.

A decent indian restaurant - not terrible but not great. Price and portion are reasonable but the dishes are mediocre. The meats and seafood portions in the dishes are generous though. If you are really in the mood for indian food and are in the area then this place is worth a try over Maroli (nearby indian restaurant). If you want to be wowed then we would suggest pukka.

Absolutely terrible indian food.
I'm from England, home of the tikka masala and this food just did not cut it. The service was slow, the waitresses were unapologetic for this and kept joking among themselves. Really would not give this place the time of day again.

Earns 1.5 for stocking kingfisher.

Banjara Indian Cuisine was recommended by my lovely friends Nick and Lily for our dinner together. Given that Nick is allergic to chicken, Lily is a vegetarian, and we were all craving Indian food (probably the best of the three reasons), this seemed like a pretty good place to try. In fact, I believe that this is actually the first Indian restaurant in Toronto to make it onto Chu on This!

Even through the dark cloak of night, you can can find Banjara by allowing your nose to lead you towards the beautiful aromatic smells emanating from the restaurant. After finishing off some mango lassi (lassis = plural?) and complimentary papadums, we basically ordered the entire vegetarian spread, starting with the vegetable pakoras ($3.95). The menu said that there are four pieces per order but I think that’s probably a bit inaccurate, judging by the basketful that landed on our table.

The vegetable samosas ($3.50) were fairly standard. They were appropriately spiced with a pretty good filling to dough ratio. There was nothing particularly spectacular about the appetizers, but there were no major issues either.

For our starches, we opted for the Peas Pulao as a rice dish ($4.95) which was prepared with green peas, onion, mixed peppers and yoghurt. It wasn’t too dry and was fragrant and flavourful. The Garlic Naan ($3.95) was the highlight of the meal for Lily.
For our curry dishes, it was the Aloo Gobi ($9.50) and Navratan Curry ($9.99) that we ended up choosing. I appreciated the generous and hearty chunks of potato and cauliflower that were used in the preparation of the first dish. Furthermore, I found it to be a much more substantial portion that its deceptively small bowl would suggest. Same went for the latter. Both were delicious, but the Navratan curry did leave a bit of a lingering oily aftertaste. However, the ingredients appeared to be fresh and the balance of flavours was well marked. If you’re craving a smoother texture, the Navratan is also available in creamy korma form.

The presentation of Banjara is simple, as are the dishes. The decor is slightly outdated, and yet, the restaurant still feels vibrant and full of life. It can perhaps be said that the simplistic nature of the food speaks to the humble nature of the establishment more than anything else, and I did appreciate the refreshing change from other showy or confusing Indian restaurants. The menu is straightforward, we ordered exactly what we wanted, and all the dishes showed up more or less exactly as described or what we hoped they would be. What more can you ask for?

Overall, the service was also very charming. While sometimes there was a bit of miscommunication, our waitstaff were attentive, fast, and very polite. In fact, Nick was so obsessed with the mint chutney that our waitress offered to pack some home for him. Although he didn’t actually take any home, we appreciated the extra gesture.

Final Note: It’s worth a visit, and the price is right too.

We love this place. Oh yeah the food here is awesome. Here are some of the dishes I like:
Veggie pakora
Chicken korma
Shrimp masala
Butter chicken
Palak paneer
Chicken tikka
Lamb curry
That should keep you going. Enjoy!

Yum. Went to Banjara on a Thursday evening. The place was packed. It seems like each and every time I have ever walked by the place is always super busy...which is a good sign.

The staff were very friendly. The atmosphere is rather dark (difficult to take a pic of food very well :)). The seating is rather cramped and I think that is just because of the demand for sitting.

Food was very good. Full of flavors and well done. It is not nearly as spicy as some other places I have had, so if you like the heat..make sure you ask for it.

I am sure that all dishes are great as all three of ours were. Recommend to try.

Delivery Time 2 hours. Delivery takes two hours on average. Delivery service is horrible!!!!. I like the food here, however when it comes to delivery in the evenings its horrible... first is the 60-120 minutes delivery time, next is that they miss food order in the delivery..... and then when you call them they say they are busy.... in a non-obligatory tone and say sorry it will take long again.. by this time your night and hunger is messed up with a 2 and half hour of ordeal one has to go through to get to eat the food....

The staff who pick up after the mistake are totally non-apologetic about the mistake that they committed due to their carelessness.

I must say the food is good. however their delivery service really really really sucks....

Loved it , we ordered butter chicken and mutton rogan josh and they were just fantastic . Will surely visit again !

Good food. Portions are small, but the food is very good. They just use the right amount of spices and I could tell they used chicken thighs rather breast, which made the dish more tasteful.

Great Food!. I had a friend bring me here after I told her I've never tried Indian food, and it was one of the best things she has recommended me. This place serves awesome food for a good value!

Good food, great value. Seems to be consistently good food here and the best bang for your buck in the city. The lunch and dinner platters are fantastic, filling meals.

Good food for the price. The restaurant is in need of a make over but the food was good. Samosas were large and crisp. Chana Masal and nan were very good. They are best known for their butter chicken. I saw them making a huge pot of it as they get very busy in the evenings.

Awesome palak paneer. Loved their palak paneer
butter chicken was extremely disappointing...way too creamy

If I Were Served Banjara Food in India, I Would Love India. Well, what a pleasant surprise. I've been disappointed more often than not by Toronto restaurant food. You know, it's expensive here to get high-quality, well-prepared food, where corners are not cut, and portions are generous. Banjara delivers in a big way and at a reasonable price, and I'm not talking about delivery as in taking food to your home, though they do deliver. My family ordered 5 different items, and each item was distinct in spicing from the others, and each was delicious in its own particular way. If their Chicken Korma can't make a vegetarian cheat, then nothing can. It is seductive. Their okra might be the most delicious Indian okra dish in all of Toronto. The rest - did not disappoint. Thank you for a very pleasant evening, Banjara.

Return delivery visit. This place serves gold in the form of curry and paneers. Palak paneer, muttar paneer, beef korma, garlic naan. Good good good and real good. A bit on the pricey side but worth a visit. 85% on a delivery basis.

Delicious!. Amazing all around, even when delivered. Can not recommend enough!

Good Indian food to make a regular spot. Surprisingly busy on a Sunday night for dinner. Lots of staff, our server was very friendly.

The cilantro sauce and tamarind sauce they serve on the side is delicious. Chicken Korma was delicious, tender and flavourful. Lamb Madras was also good . The only complaint I have is that the menu described the garlic naan to be topped with garlic, cilantro and spices but all I got was naan with neon orange garlic spread on top :(
Phoebe
My fave Indian in the city. Worth the wait for delivery (can take over an hour).
MorenaP
So good!. I usually get the korma chicken as I cannot deal with the spices, and it's so creamy and tasteful! My friends get all the other flavours and are really pleased as well. Portions looks small but I always have enough for the day after. I advice to go there either really early or after 8 as it gets really crowded.

Great food - great service. I always switch up what I'm ordering from here, but everything I get is delicious. The papadums are amazing!

Will go back again and again.

The servers look uptight, but they're actually really great!

Nevermind the unfavorable reviews. The butter chicken and aloo korma and rice and naan were the best. Very good service on a Wednesday lunch. Big portions. Go hungry! Eat well. I don't always eat Indian food, but when I do, I prefer Bamjari.

Good food. false advertising. Went to this place for lunch on a weekday with my brother. We ordered 2 lunch combos that came with chicken curry, vegtables, naan and rice. The food tasted great. They had brought us a plate with 1 naan cut in half. We shared that naan, thinking they were going to bring the other naan when it was ready. When we were nearly finished, my brother asked them about the 2nd naan as the menu specifically states each combo comes with a naan. The waiter told my brother that he brought 2 naans to our table. I told him it was 1 naan cut in half, not 2 full naans. His response was, "that's how we serve naans here." Seriously ? Maybe they should have stated each combo comes with 1/2 a naan ? Maybe next time, they should cut the naan in 4 pieces so we can share with the table beside us. Anyways, the food taste great there, but I will never go back because of their poor customer service.
Mariana
Best butter chicken in toronto. I love this place. All dishes are full of flavour and the atmosphere is nice. If your love food that explodes in your mouth this its the place to be.

Simply delicious. I visited Banjara after seeing it listed on blogTO for their butter chicken.

What can I say? Banjara definitely did not disappoint and the quick combo platters are a really good value!

Just plain amazing really. I have eaten a lot of Indian cuisine, and I can safely say that Banjara has THE best Butter chicken I have had as of yet. and they are pretty good size portions.
also, i ordered delivery, and they had said it would be about an our and a half delay because it was 6 on a Friday, obviously busy, and they showed up in 45 mins! very nice surprise.

Finally an Indian restaurant that is flavourful and true. Awesome! Not one dish on the menu is disappointing. (I've tried most). Bonus: They also delivery to a wide branch of neighbourhoods. Try it!

Amazing Food, Lack of service. I worked up the street from Banjara this past summer. I frequently got take out from there as i love loved the butter chicken. So good. However, when i finally got around to eating in there, the service was terrible. The tables were so close together that i felt like i was on a triple date. Also our waiter forgot about our food, so when if FINALLY came it was luke warm. That was so unfortunate because i love the food and definitely will eat there again. I hope for better service the next time. the Naan bread is amazing as well! If you're have been scared off by service reviews at least get take out!

Amazing!. Incredible service and savory, delectable dishes. What more can you ask for? I travel from Little India (where I now live), just to go here, it's that good!

Addictive. I've eaten Banjara many times and never have I been disappointed. The dishes succulence and flavors are so intoxicating that I am often compelled to overeat. I am partial to the Chicken Madras and Daal or Chana curry. The only thing I could fault Banjara for is inconsistency; on the rare occasion the food is unusually overly oily (I've only experienced this irregularity on weeknights). Regardless of this slight drawback, Banjara is a remarkably delicious culinary experience that is one of, if not the best Indian restaurant this side of Yonge.

They were open late enough for a night owl like myself, the food was really fantastic! I certainly got my moneys worth and left content, not bloated! Definitely going back with my mates again! I am new to Toronto and it was great to see they have amazing Indian resteraunts like back home! Will be eating in very soon. 9/10!

Great place to go. This place is great. The food is very tasty and I love the atmosphere. If you don't feel like trekking to the east end of the city , this is an excellent alternative. Their dishes are perfectly seasoned and very comforting. You receive great portions and the price is excellent. Go try it for yourself.

Best Indian I've had in Toronto! The mater paneer is my favorite.

We just moved to the area and have already eaten there and ordered in several times. Pleasant service, delicious food, and large portions (especially for take out or delivery)! Highly recommended.

Horrible Service. When we arrived, there was a double they offered to pull a chair up for, but we told them we would be willing to wait for a 4 top to seat the 3 of us as we were planning on ordering a lot of food. 15 minutes later table of 6 opened and they split it to seat a 4 top and offered us the same setup. 40 minutes later we finally were seated. The food was GREAT except that we should have asked for spicy as the lamb dish we ordered was very mild, but some addictive hot sauce/minced chili concoction solved that, albeit to a now lukewarm dish. My good mood changed however when we were asked if we could leave so they could seat others. It was not busy and there was a table right in front of us that was all set up. The false smiles and sorries didn't make up for it.

I've both eaten in and had take out. Delicious, filling, reasonably priced and good service.

We order take-away from Banjara and they have the best butter chicken in the city. I've never been disappointed with the food or service.

Spectacular food. Great service. If I could eat there four times a week I would!!!

Great Casual Atmosphere - Great Food!. I was never a fan of Indian food before going to Banjara - and now I am! My husband started taking me here and now we often meet friends here too and always end up having such a great time with lots of laughing (it's that kind of atmosphere that let's you feel relaxed enough to let your hair down)!

I'm not crazy about too much spice but they do have some low spice alternatives that are fantastic - butter chicken is my fav. I also like the spinach paneer and the cheese naan.

The owner, Rajeesh, comes by to say hello and makes us feel like we're part of his extended family. Other restaurants would benefit from taking a page from Banjara!

Superb..... Quite possibly the best curry restaurant in Toronto!

I have found the service to be excellent. Rajeesh is very friendly and will tailor the curry to your liking.

I usually order the Chicken Vindaloo, Onion Bhajia, Keema naan, spinach fry, and plain basmati rice.

Yum!

Terrible - Food and service sucks. The whole restaurant sucks, terrible service ,
And waiters were .arrogant ,will not accept their mistakes . there was no salt and curry had too much salt .when I i mentioned it ,he told for white people we use less salt . !!!!!!! what about curry does white people adjust salt accordingly . still no apologising , when I asked him to change Naan and curry ,he told me it is going to be same , what does that mean .stupid , Just because I live near Dupont and christie ,Now my neighbour showed me another place near to Banjara , Maroli on Bloor Extremely friendly servive and excellent food . They as well

Platters are great value. I went here a couple of weeks ago and tried one of their platters, which included a wonderful variety of food. You get rice and naan, daal, aloo gobi, your main choice (chicken / beef / vegetable), and rice pudding for dessert.

My biggest complaint at Indian places is that you have to go with a large group to be able to get a good selection -- so this was a fantastic option.

Unfortunately only one of the four people at our table liked the rice pudding, but the rest of the food was enjoyed by all. If I remember correctly the platters were around $12 each.

The service was very friendly.

Good, flavorful food. Portions the perfect size if you come hungry. And the price is right, so you don't feel guilty experimenting if you're new to Indian food. I'm glad Banjara hasn't fallen prey to the trend of making starters cost as much as the main meal, which seems popular these days with a lot of restaurants. Many of the dishes are served in a way that's perfect for sharing things at a table, for those that want to try everything.

Banjara also has its own small parking lot, which is rare in the city. And a rather pleasant surprise. Especially if you're used to visiting a lot of the smaller restaurants.

If there was a problem with serving before, it seems to be cleared up now. The servers were prompt and the food came relatively quickly, even when most of the tables were full.

BANJARA. Terrific restaurant...lots of choices , larger than usual portions, fresh & tasty.
Ser vice in the beginning was a problem but I feel this has been adequately addressed.
We have been several times and have had no complaints regarding service.
Overall, this Restaurant deserves all the raves it is now receiving, we no longer go to Gerrard Street for authentic cuisine..it is 'our choice' for Indian Food first and foremost.

Service versus food. I love Indian food especially the more Northern cuisine as is served at Banjara. However, every time I go to the restaurant, the service is horrible. Waiting for 25 minutes for service - you know the deal. I highly recommend ordering delivery or take-out from Banjara. It's about a 60-minute lag for delivery but well worth it.

...the first thing I want to do is eat and of course we choose Indian Cuisine, the closest and best recommended near us is called Banjara Indian Cuisine... If I’ve learned one thing from my adventures though it is to not pre judge a place until you’ve tried it...Banjara Indian Cuisine isn’t fine dining but it is really good and tasty Indian cuisine that is inexpensive and full of flavour...Good food, good price

If you’re ever looking to try out Indian cuisine for the first time, I highly recommend going to Banjara first. They have a great selection and you definitely won’t be disappointed! Don’t go to a buffet because often the spice level may not be to your tastes. When you order at Banjara, you can choose those levels. Go tickle your tastebuds now!

Sitting outside on Banjara's Patio, feeling the warm breeze of spring, sipping wine and consuming food with depths of flavour, was an excellent experience. I would definitely recommend eating at this restaurant!
Banjara was the best bang for your buck at this year’s park crawl. All this for $5! Omnomnomnom…

...this place churns out some seriously outstanding Indian food that would be just as good if it was served on a picnic table in the neighbouring Christie Pits Park.

Decided to try this place after reading all the great reviews about it. Honestly, I was quite disappointed. We had the Mango Lassi, Tandoori Fish, Chicken Tikka Masala, Dal Makhani, Garlic Naan and Paratha. The lassi was the only thing I really enjoyed. The fish was good but had excessive amounts of lime that may not be liked by everyone. The Chicken Tikka Masala was nothing like what you would get in India.. There was barely any gravy. Dal Makhani had too much salt and ginger. The Naan and paratha were just fine. Despite all this, the restaurant seems to be doing quite well.. We had to wait for 15-20 mins to be seated.

Some of the best butter chicken Ive ever had, and delicious naan. My favourite indian restaurant in Toronto. For what it's worth, takeout portions are much bigger than dine in.

Banjara is (for the most post) the best Indian food in downtown Toronto for the price. Sure you can find better but it will cost you. The only reason I say "for the most part" is b/c like any kitchen -sometimes - when they get busy the food suffers
Jeremy Potvin
Some of the best butter chicken I have ever had. Palak paneer is also incredible. Delicious naan. I generally get this for takeout or delivery, but dining in is pretty great if you can get a table. (It gets busy!).

I will order the Mulligatawny Soup from Banjara every time I dine in. This aromatic Lentil puree is full of shredded Veggies and pieces of Tandoori Chicken.

Banjara is the best Indian restaurant I've tried so far. Even if the atmosphere is not as ethnic as other restaurants, the place is clean and spacious, the food is really high quality and the price is moderate. I ordered a chicken combo for just 9.99$ and it was the perfect portion for one person. The service is good as well: helpful and polite. I'll definitely go back.

Reviewing Indian restaurants is a bit difficult for me because I'm never disappointed by the food. All Indian food is great for me. Banjara however stands out as one of the better places because it's decently priced and they just pile on tons of food on your plate. The service is good, albeit a little chaotic sometimes but never rude or unpleasant. Good for first timers and veterans of Indian food.
