Review School Restaurant - Toronto

Joseph “Joey” Donovan
SCHOOL Restaurant is an awesome brunch spot in Liberty Village. Be prepared for a wait (we waited about 1 hour on a Sunday holiday) but I feel like the wait is worth it if you have the time. Definitely try one of their sweet pancake / French Toast options (to share, or for yourself- I’d recommend the Synonym Toast). The Super Cheesy Bacon French Toast is a great savoury twist on the traditional French Toast. Coffee is awesome and there are plenty of cocktails. We will definitely visit again!

I've tried lining up at School the past few years but wait times were always extreme but this time around we got lucky! Just 30 minute wait. The food quality definitely lived up to it's reputation. I really enjoyed my super cheesy bacon french toast. Pancakes were delicious and if you're looking for something sweeter, their cinnamon french toast would be a wise choice. I find their chai latte a bit watered down? Chicken and waffles was great too. Chicken was juicy. We sat at the bar so we got to see some cooking and prep in action. Servers and staff were really nice and friendly! My only down side which isn't the restaurant fault is that there's a emergency shelter for homelessness community built right across from School. Right when we came out from the restaurant there was a lady holding a crack pipe screaming non sense at us and followed us for quite a bit. It was a scary encounter.

This restaurant was a good experience. The place itself is a bit small and your tables are close to others, but they make what they have work. The wait can be a bit long if you don't get there at a good time, but the food is worth it, great brunch spot, high quality food. Would definitely go back. If you drive it can be hard to find parking, but if you plan well, you will have a good experience. Staff is great and polite, and the coffee is good as well.

Hey gang, Back again with another review, So the girlfriend recommended this place, And it's a great little vibe, from the music, to the decor. It's definitely our type of place, and the food!!! I believe typically people come here for brunch, and they have simple but good menu, with plenty of selection. I got some pictures below, I got the safe bet, and she got the French toast which was more than a mouth full. Service was good, I'd have to say though. If you want to get a good spot, not worry about wait time, try to go before 11am Otherwise, there may be a bit of a wait time. But tables turn over fairly quickly so it isn't too long of a wait. But it's a great little spot after or before a hike, or just a tour on the town. This place comes highly recommended, for some solid service and solid food. See you next time folks, Cheers, Akil

Go early and still expect a line up, it’s popular- but we found it moved ok…we arrived about 10:30. I’d say it was 15m wait. When we passed by after 2pm, line was just as long. No reservations. Street parking free until 1pm on Sunday, and a lot beside that appears free? Inside, the food makes it all worthwhile! I had a mocha and decadent cheesy French toast and my friend had coffee (good) and the pancakes. Cocktails also an option. Everything was slow to arrive, even drinks; but kinda expected since it was completely jammed. Server was friendly (apologized for delay). Interior has nice vibe. It is pretty loud. We were also just inside door- which they left open so there was a consistent cool breeze (unpleasant) which meant keeping our coats on. I had visited a few years ago and enjoyed. Glad to get out and enjoy brunch!

Amazing food. The first time went with boyfriend for birthday breakfast. We were seated outside. There were tons of wasps around as our food was sweet. But we were told that nothing could be done. Second time we went table was broken, but stuff was accommodating and it was fixed fast. Food delicious. Portions are amazing. A bit pricey. Need to mention that for breakfast restaurant they have very poor selection of tea/coffee/etc. drinks

A top contender amongst the brunch spots in Liberty Village! Get there early, as there is always a line on the weekend. We got the Super Cheesy Bacon French Toast (topped with a generous heaping of Cheddar Jack cheese, served with Ontario Maple Syrup, and Mixed Greens on the side). This was such a classic diner or brunch dish, but beautifully executed. The thick French toast also helps balance out the flavours from everything else. And for our sweet selection, we got the Black n’ Blue Flapjacks (Topped with a Blackberry and Blueberry sauce, served with Brown Sugar Butter, Whipped Cream, and Maple Syrup). Blueberry pancakes seem to be all the craze at brunch joints these days, but these at SCHOOL were phenomenal, and I am not even a big fan of pancakes! Have each bite with one or all of the sauces, and it is just amazing.

Visited on a Saturday night at 6:30pm and had no issues getting a table right beside the garage door. Great ambiance from the second we walked in. We ordered the bruschetta to start and were blown away by how fresh the bread was and I was happy that it wasn't layered in balsamic reduction like so many other places think is a good idea for whatever reason. Their caesars are fantastic and topped with bacon - extra points ;) Craft beer list if small but Great Leaks Brewery has quite the lineup on the menu which is nice to see. I ordered the burger with russet fries and my partner ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. The burger was juicy, flavourful and the cheese was rich and perfectly crunchy along the edges. A layer of kale brought the perfect amount of green to the meal. Fries were cut thin and salted just right. Spaghetti and meatballs came with one meatball that was full of flavour and a small portion of pasta - I'm unsure if the pasta is made on site but I expected the size of the pasta serving to be a little bit larger. We passed on the dessert but they sounded amazing! Service was great throughout, right down to him hanging my coat upon arrival, the fresh silverware and table wiping between courses and making my second caesar with just the perfect amount of spice. Chef was friendly and welcoming. With the kitchen being fairly open concept you can watch him plate the dishes with so much attention to detail. Great experience, 100% recommend and will return next time I visit from Hamilton. Thank you!!

The food is absolutely delicious. So many great food items to choose from. The mimosas with blood oranges instead of regular oranges is a nice twist to the drink. I love that they play Saved by the Bell on the TVs and the overall theme is unique and fun! I will definitely be back and I will definitely recommend this place to all my friends and family.

Went to School for the first time yesterday with a couple of friends who were in town from Ottawa. DIVINE! Had the cheese and bacon stuffed french toast...SO GOOD. Friends both had chicken and waffles and were equally happy with their food. We were all craning our necks at the plates of food that went by because they looked so good. Although there was a wait, it was worth it. We found that all of the staff were pleasant. Would definitely go back.

Got there at 2pm on Saturday and got a seat about 35 mins later. Well worth the wait. It's a very popular brunch place so try to get there as early as possible. I ordered the chicken and waffles. One of the best in the city. Love the theme and decor. Brings me back to my childhood.

Went to a restaurant for brunch today for my daughters birthday- it’s called School and it’s in Liberty Village Don’t go there! Place is nice enough but they have certainly drank their own koolaid. Imagine this- I asked for an order of their pancakes but please put all the berry topping on the side instead of all over the pancakes- Server says sure- that will be an extra $3.00 Why I asked Because it’s a modification and we are so busy we can’t be doing modifications Not sure how $3.00 changes either the busy part or the modification So she says they have to put it in a separate dish and they give more so there’s an extra charge Put it on the same plate but just not on top of the pancakes No we can’t do that Then I’ll have plain pancakes - (isn’t that a modification btw) So asked to speak to manager He says it’s an inventory control issue- are you kidding me??? Will never go back $85 bill btw Here the customer clearly is not in charge So this is an example of penny wise and pound foolish Cause Facebook is a powerful tool #school#dontgo

Very pleasant staff and friendly. Had to wait as it was crazy busy but well worth it. Our waiter Patrick came around several times to check on us and the brunch was delicious... just would ask that you add a few more banana slices on the nutella croissant

Excellent food and experience. Have been here 3 times and never left unsatisfied. Ordered the Chicken & Waffles and Flap 'n Jack Pancakes. Highly recommend both if you go there although everything on the menu looks awesome! Looking forward to going back again!

First time and last time at School. Bitchy host and hostess, rushed service overall rude staff and not once did anyone ask if our meal was ok and left us with complete empty coffee mugs no refill on coffee also served up cold flapjacks 🥞. Lots of other great places in the city to spend your money especially for 48.00 for pancakes, coffee x2 + a very very undeserving tip.

Very Good food and service. A bit pricy for a lunch but well worth it. Great outdoor area. Very cozy.

If you're into great food, lively ambience and ol'skool hip hop check this place out. Highly suggest ordering the cheesy bacon French toast while sitting at the bar to see all the action.

No hassle staff, awesome food, chilled atmosphere, what more do you need?
