Review La Bettola Di Terroni - Toronto

This restaurant was one of the restaurants recommended to us by a friend. The food was great especially the cacio e pepe. It’s very hard to find a good one. The waitress was also very nice and accommodating. We ended up ordering again delivery at the hotel but it wasn’t the same branch so I’d keep the 5 stars as they deserve it.

I went here on 14th feb and was amazed by how well organized the place was despite being so busy. The staff was really helpful, polite and friendly. The food was super delicious. Highly recommended place for fine dining!

Went here early as we were going to a concert. The restaurant was clean and the staff was nice. Music had a 60s vibe and was different. We sat in a far off location, the restaurant was pretty much empty. A few minutes later a large family was seated right beside us. This made conversation hard as our section was now very loud. But it was ok we were good and excited for dinner. The wine was good but pricey compared to other restaurants. The burrata was very good but the greens were over seasoned. We ordered the ravioli and the salmon. The ravioli was over cooked and the salmon under seasoned. The mushrooms were over seasoned and replaced with new ones. After that we were pretty much ignored. We waited and nobody came by. 20 minutes later we asked for our bill. They cleared our plates and comped us for the bad main courses. Not sure that was enough. We were asked to return again. But I think we will pass. This place is a definite skip.

Went here for a date night to celebrate our five year anniversary. The waitress was amazing, super friendly and attentive. Food was really well made and probably some of the best pasta I've ever found. Only part that wasn't great was my boyfriend finding a fruit fly in his drink. But the staff immediately took it back and replaced it with no charge.

Amazing service, perfect wine recommendations and the grilled octopus appetizer was the best we have ever tasted! We also recommend the new ravioli entree and the tiramisu for dessert was out of this world!

We waited for 30 minutes despite the fact that we had a reservation. People who came after us miraculously got seated before us. Once the tables finally cleared up, we were seated at a really long table with a bunch of others, I would not recommend sitting here if you needed some privacy. The food however was splendid and our waitress was very friendly. The restaurant was kind enough to waive the cost of our appetizers given that we had waited for so long. The overall restaurant experience could have been much better if we didn't have to wait that long and got better seats.

Great food, very kind and attentive staff and decently accessible (no stairs to the washroom). Would recommend.

Fabulous food and location. The staff were excellent, a wonderful dining experience.

The place was crowded and we sat at the bar.<br/><br/>While the bartender was attentive the waitress wasn't. It felt like we had to call her for everything, incl. bread.<br/><br/>Our mushroom salad was great. Very flavorful.<br/><br/>The Arancine was dry and not what I expected.<br/><br/>The pasta special spaghetti Bolognese needed more tomato sauce.<br/><br/>The food was served hot which is good.<br/><br/>Creme brule might have been the best I've had.<br/><br/>The coffees were great.<br/><br/>Loved my Affogato.<br/><br/>The wine: Too pricey $17 for a 5oz glass too much!<br/><br/>The restaurant feels very cozy.<br/><br/>I would come back

If you want a traditional Italian meal with impeccable service La Bettola Di Terroni has you covered! The staff are friendly and welcoming and the food is delicious. <br/>For a great experience, order yourself a bottle of wine and start with the ‘Tavoliere Del Giorno’ a delicious assortment of meat and cheese. After you’ve devoured that I would suggest going with their specialty the ‘Chitarra Norcina’ which is done perfectly ‘al denté’. To finish up a great experience order their Corretto Espresso which will leave you all warm for your trip home. <br/>

Poor service. I was embarrassed as it was for a date night and we were treated with sarcastic comments for not knowing what the dishes were. As well as not explained clearly when we asked about the food. When we asked what do they serve in drinks non alcohol, as we were driving, we were given an option for "milk" which was disgustingly rude. As well as the server did not treat us well as we dint know what "south italian" comprises of. I have never experienced such horrible service for which we are charged so much for each dish. Definitely a disappointment.

Not a huge fan of Terroni but it's a good place for large groups for a birthday dinner. I had the C't Mang white pizza with Gorgonzola, fresh pears, walnuts, speck and honey. The different flavours went perfectly together however it was a bit dry since it was a white pizza.

Carbonara and bolognese were extremely tasty, slightly too salty. Smendozzata pizza was deliciously balanced, but the crust left much to be desired. I understand the middle being slightly doughy, and the crust being thin, but as I cut into it, it felt like I was cutting through the toppings with nothing underneath. I prefer Libretto's crust.<br/><br/>I don't understand why this company insists on discourteous service. The gentleman serving us stuck his nose up at me a few times: 1. When I couldn't remember the name/how to pronounce of the beers; 2. After ordering our dishes, he made it sound like we ordered poorly ("Don't fill up on bread, there's a lot of food coming"). Actually, that last comment really did make me think twice and raised my expectations on the portion sizes when in fact we finished all three dishes without effort; 3. Informing us of our limit of 2 hours at the door.<br/><br/>With all their talk about "authentic Italian", you'd think they'd embrace all parts of Italian dining (extremely friendly, one-of-the-family type atmosphere, and the fact that dining is a social sport in Italy, one that can last for hours into the night).

Excellent staff, excellent food, affordable, and super accommodating. I have been to La Bettola so many times I have lost count. As an Italian I feel confident saying that this is the best Italian restaurant in Toronto. The food is simple Italian comfort food with a classy, trendy, twist. The staff is so great, and the chef is even happy to make something off menu that you may be craving if you provide enough notice. Try everything here but especially the orecchiette with peas and sausage.

Perfect when you're craving delicious Italian comfort food. Every kind of their pasta is worth trying, as well as anything dolce. It's featured on my blog as one of the best Italian places in Toronto!

This is a great place for a delicious Italian lunch. Great pizzas and a wonderful selection of desserts. The affogato is a great finish to any meal.

Beautiful restaurant with great atmosphere, but not the best experience food-wise.<br/><br/>I don't recall the exact name of the dish, but I had a cod filet, served on a salad. Given that this came off their specials menu, I was expecting something a little more...I don't know...elaborate? The dish was extremely basic, especially at $26. It was just chunks of cod thrown on top of a green salad. Looked liked something that should have been on the salad menu instead. However, the dessert, a salted caramel pudding, was great, although a bit sweet.

Hands down best Italian food in Toronto. And this is coming from an Italian. Food is fantastic. Service just as good and ambiance is excellent. If you are lucky enough to be there when the orecchiette with sweet peas and Italian sausage is on the special menu, order it. Don't ask questions or doubt it, just order it. Trust me!

Decent food - we had some calamari appetiser a pizza and a salad. They were good but not great. Service was a bit slow. It seemed our waitress was covering a big hall that she couldn't be more attentive.

Great food. The restaurant is great with lots of energy. The service and food were all excellent. Loved it!

CRAP!. Rude staff, food so-so, noisy, waiter recommended a wine that didn't go well with my meal- and in a small glass while he entire table had proper wine glasses (huh?)- bunch of pretentious people. That approach got tired in TO way back in the early 80s, and consumers are far more savvy now. <br/>Do yourself a FAVOUR & give this one a pass!

Never Again!. Went to Osteria for dinner. Note: there are two restaurants. Ordered a tuna- it was grilled on the outside and rare on the inside. Waitor did not ask me how I would like my tuna cooked nor inform me that it would be cooked this way. Very small portions. Ordered the antipasto because the waitor informed me that their main course was quite small. Something in their antipasto did not click with me and left me feeling uneasy for several hours after. Romantic date nate went all wrong.

Great food, Good Wine. Wonderful authentic Italian food. Great wine choices at decent prices. Knowledgable sommelier that paired our dishes. Portions are decent (not American). Ambiance is O.K. but the lighting was a bit bright. I would not go back due to the clientelle.

Could't care less about food allergies. I went there with my husband a few weeks ago and we ended up walking out! Their food is all pre-made and not cooked fresh from scratch. They are trying too hard to be hard core authentic and don't seem to care that people have food allergies. The first warning sign was when I asked for lime with my water..apparently they don't have any limes at all. Then I asked to change the cheese topping on my pizza b/c I can only eat certain cheeses. Our server said she would asked the kitchen but told me not to get my 'hopes up'. When she returned she told me the kitchen doesn't make substitutions and pointed me to the page on the menu that explains this!! When I reminded her this was due to a food allergies, she basically told me I could take the cheese off the pizza when I arrived and they would supply a side of the cheese I wanted. That's when we got up and left. All she had to do was tell me the meals were all pre-made or not made fresh in the back and I would have been more understanding but to tell me they don't cater to food allergies is inexcusable.

Great food, and amazing attention to detail!. Have to admit that my meal at Osteria was a completely unique dinning experience. I love the concept! Its so rare to find a restaurant in Toronto that is willing to take a risk on a menu that changes daily. Also, glad that between the rotating choices for dinner there were vegetarian options for my partner.<br/>Our table was right next to the kitchen and with several of our courses the chef would would talk to us about the dishes and their history. Not sure it that is a regular occurrence or we just got lucky but it made the night . I would defiantly go back!

Questionable Service, Good Food. I really enjoyed the food and the concept with the combos they offer, plus the menu changes on a daily basis for variety. However, we mad reservations and we had to wait 30 minutes for our table, so we were not very happy. The restaurant did compensate us by giving us a free round of shots at the very end of our meal. I would love to go back!

Great service, okay food, bad prices. Food<br/>If you're prepared to spend a lot of money to be fully satiated, go for it! If you have a big appetite and/or on a budget, skip it! I guess it's the Italian way of eating, multiple courses of small (expensive) portions? The food was just okay - our grilled/roasted veggies were just the same as anywhere else, my agnolotti was on the salty side but the duck confit pappardelle was quite nice. I just wish the plates had some more food on them. <br/><br/>Service<br/>Service was very fast and our server was great! She had quite a few tables but was totally on top of her game. We had bit of a miscommunication that she handled very well. We asked for wine, she asked "2 glasses?" and we said yes thinking, how else could we share the bottle? 2 glasses of wine came. OH, of course! When we told her WE had incorrectly ordered, she just asked if we had a sip from the glasses yet (no), then whisked those glasses away, took them off the bill and brought a full bottle! No attitude, she was great!

Great Decor, Mediocre Food, Lousy Service. I am a big fan of Terronis and Southern Italian Cooking but, somehow, Osteria has lost the good food, no bull vibe typical of the Terronis style. Service was poor. Waitress was VERY disagreeable and difficult when asked if we could switch one antipasti for a different one, due to my date's allergy to oysters. The food was so-so, over-salted to cover a lack of flavour and freshness. Despite a half-empty restaurant, I felt we were rushed through our meal. Decor is cool but the best thing food-wise were the large green olives and little dish of olive oil. 50$ each with only one glass of wine and no dessert, full but not exactly satisfied.

I went there last night and since it was a wednesday didn't even have to wait. The waitress was very poilite and I had the 5 antipasti primo and secondo. Having lived in Italy I have to say that I miss the good food there. This restaurant makes great southern Italian dishes. My wife's timballo(which is a type of risotto) was delicious and my Ciceri and tria was also very good. The lamb was special too. Overall excellent place I recommend it!

WAY too Salty!. I like to try new restaurants when I'm in town on business. I was told by a colleague that this new restaurant was supposed to be good. I was really in the mood for some good Italian food and went in. Plenty of seats available and the hostess/waitress was in no rush to seat me. It took a while to even have my drink order taken. She seemed more interested in talking to the cooks and other friends standing by the counter than providing service. I can stand bad service if the food is good. But, I could only eat about half my meal because it was SO incredibly salty, I could feel my pulse pounding in my neck. The dish at least smelled good, but I wish I could have tasted the food instead of all the salt they put in it. And their glasses of water are very small (~2-3oz). I left there hungry and VERY thirsty...minus $20 for an entree (no apps or salad) & a Coke.

Rude service, ignorant of food allergies, food only OK.. The food is pretty good but if you have FOOD ALLERGIES, intolerances, sensitivities, etc. I'd suggest NOT going here. I have an allergy to pine nuts and the proper precautions were not used to ensure that there were no pine nuts in my food. In fact an entire dessert was full of them and I broke out in an allergic reaction which only worsened tremendously once I left. The waitress removed the cost of the dessert off our bill. Gee, thanks. I'm fortunate that I'm not deathly allergic to them otherwise I would've died in the restaurant! Maybe if I died they'd have taken the wine off the bill too. The waitress did not assume any responsibility and actually blamed the kitchen staff when later after my friend talked about it it ended up being her fault after all. She was rude about the whole thing and has no compassion about food allergies because she doesn't know what it's like. I would not risk eating there if you have a food allergy. The service was rude and insensitive, the food was only ok, the atmosphere was cute, but the rude service and ignorance of everyone involved really made me never want to go back. As a restaurant you need to take food allergies seriously because you can kill someone. All staff need to be properly trained on proper procedures.
Danny Ricciuto
Worst service!. Reservation made 3 weeks in advance and we were made to wait 1 hour for our table. The place was jammed with people having the same problem. Wrong orders came out, charges to our bill that should not have been included. All of this met with no apologies. When we finally did complain the rude manager reluctantly comp'd us our coffees! Thanks! Further complaints lead to 10% off the bill which she slapped down. Will NOT got back to this restaurant. Aren't you making enough money Terroni's that you can't treat your customers better?!! Predict this will be an empty restaurant soon...

Bland and disappointing. Take a pass on this one.

Great food and location. Took my friend here for her birthday for lunch. Food was great. It's a small place and very busy. Customer service was attentive and courteous. Had the grilled squid and clams pasta. Will come again.

Very poor dinner. Went to the newly expanded version last night. Beet salad was bland. Ordered our meal to share so I expected each order to come individually, instead the pizza and pasta dish arrived at the same time. I sent the pasta back, but when it came time for my pasta dish, I swear they served the same pasta heated. The beef was dry and the sauce was non-existent. Last time to this restaurant. There are so many better choices. Too bad they expanded.

Have had dinner here many times.... For both larger parties and smaller/intimate dinners. All my experiences have been great. The food is always amazing, service is great and the ambiance, enjoyable. I never felt rushed or anything like that even in larger parties (even had one with 14 people). I love looking at the cold room they have in the front - it's like how they do it in Italy! Great place overall!
Heather Linkletter
Comfortable, friendly, great service....the food....fabulous! The agnolotti dish is out of this world- the beef is spectacularly tender....it's braised in white wine for a week....melt in your mouth YUM!
Matthew Chau
Simply awful. From the beginning I felt as though I was being rushed out for the next table coming in, even though there was no one in the restaurant. I never knew an Italian restaurant could screw up a simple pasta dish like this. For a restaurant that considers itself fine dining, the paper placemat told me otherwise. Definitely a money grab place. Overall, food and service was subpar.
Nolan Machan
Subpar. There isn't really a great deal available when you're attending at Sunday evening performance of Sister Act - so I thought wow - let's try this place - the majority of reviews were positive. <br/><br/>So we arrived, were seated promptly, and the server was there offering drinks. We ordered. Then the first unpleasant experience - fresh bread (good) olive oil really, really nasty. We make a comment - and are told that they use only the best quality olive oil - IE we didn't understand that the after taste of this olive was supposed to taste terrible. Now - I'm not a chef - but I'm pretty sure that we weren't the first people to comment on the olive oil - since we were given such a quick answer. If you know the product you're serving has a very bad after taste - then you might not want to use it. <br/><br/>Our meals are delivered - and they are using the same nasty olive oil on the salads. Then one our group indicated that they would be ordering wine with their main meal. They clear - taking the cutlery off plates and putting them back on the tables. When diners leave cutlery on their plates - they are expecting to have new cutlery for their next course. They are not expecting the person clearing to tell them that they only get one set of cutlery. If I'm paying $50 per person - extra cutlery is not supposed to be an issue. Finally, the main courses arrive - again quality of food is good - however, the waiter never asks if the guest would like to order their wine - but just takes the menu - their loss. One can only assume that if you snooze you loose - is the belief of this restaurant. Desserts are decent - and homemade - the high light of this meal. <br/><br/>The company was nice - the quality of food was strong (with the exception of the nasty Olive Oil) but the arrogant attitude was not needed nor appreciated. Food quality is really important - but arrogantly treating your guests is inexcusable. I'll not be recommending this establishment.
Sigalit Benjamin
Trendy, Noisy, Mediocer Food. They were much better in the beginning, but recently we were disappointed. The Nizarda Salad and other dishes became amazingly small; and the restaurant became loud with bad music.
Jessica
Arrogant concept. .Never again. I am Italian, make this exact dish myself at home and prefer Pecorino Romano cheese on top to add a salt factor plus the cheese is "the piece due résistance". The chef DENIED giving me the cheese outright, even though I prefer it. Why don't you deny me the damn salt n pepper too. Will NEVER return...pompous pricks, way to go above n beyond...
Priyanka
If you would like to eat crap and pay a hefty price for it...please come here! The antipasti was the only good thing with the wine- the stake was like chewing rubber, the pasta like eating dry straws and the lobster like eating something picked out of a garbage dump site. Eat a hot dog if youre hungry and in downtown but save your stomach and your evening from being a total disaster. Plus it burns a hole in your pocket- a very smelly distasteful stinky hole. Dont let the ambience fool you...its worse than a dump!!!

Trendy spot with good food. Really liked the decor in this place, even though everyone uses reclaimed wood it works well with the trendy casual vibe that's going on in there. The food was tasty - I had the mushroom arugula salad which was very yummy and a pasta which was good. Our server was also very sweet. The one downside was that it was very noisy in there during lunch hour, so much so that it was difficult to have a conversation with my friend sitting right next to me (not even across!).
Lisa Kim
Food took a long time, but both fish dishes (black cod and seared tuna) was very delicious and very well cooked.
Kevin
Great Agnolotti and Gnocchi. Portions were perfect sized. No leftovers - the way it should be. Service was OK but nit outstanding. Tiramisu was strong espresso flavour - excellent. Will do it again.
Jimboy17
Simply Delicious. I've eaten here a smattering of times as it is very close to mine. I have also eaten next door at the more rustic Puglian inspired resto. After reading the reviews here, I can only conclude that Toronto is filled with people who neither understand nor appreciate Italian cuisine.<br/><br/>Service has been attentive at all times, although there was an error one night when it was incredibly busy. They did offer the dessert free to accomodate for the mistake, which is what one would expect (the advertised porcini mushrooms had been substituted for less expensive and flavourful oyster mushrooms and the wait staff didn't advise us...minor detail).<br/><br/>The carpaccio is excellent, succulent and properly aged and sliced. The pastas are divine and (gasp!) yes, you will find that they range from very al dente (chitarra) to pillowy soft (gnocchi). One might even imagine this is how you would find pasta cooked in Italy. Imagine that! In particular, the duck filled agnolotti and the spaghetti con astice (lobster) are excellent, although both are on the rotating table d'hote menu, so they are not always offered. <br/><br/>The only caution I would mention is that the kitchen has a heavy hand with the salt. Not excessive, but nearing it...for my tastes. In comparison with my excursions in Italy, the food stacks up against any decent restaurant I have eaten at.<br/><br/>The wine list is affordable, and excellent for a small bistro.<br/><br/>A note on Italian food:<br/><br/>1) You don't get butter with your bread unless you're north of Milan, and then, only occasionally. Try it with the oil...or skip the bread entirely.<br/><br/>2) You don't get vinegar with your bread. That is like putting ketchup on a steak, so don't ask for it. <br/><br/>3) While we're on the topic, don't ask for it on the caprese either. The ONLY reason that balsamic or some hideous mass market dreck are served in North America with caprese is to hide the substandard cheese and terrible tomatoes. Balsamic COMPLETELY overwhelms the tomato's acidity and sweetness, which is the whole point the in the cheese-tomato pas de deux.<br/><br/>If you cannot abide having your food served to you properly, and you feel the need to have condiments to liberally insult the food you are eating, then I suggest MacDonalds, or Harvey's.
Andy
Great, unique italian. Perfectly cooked pasta. Perfect and unique flavors. Proper portions. fantastic coffee! This spot has become my favorite spot for lunch downtown. And I normally stay away from Italian.
Cindy
Under impressed with the service at lunch today. Shocked that they would not accommodate a request to exclude a topping from a pizza in order to make it vegetarian.
Arlene
They refused to make substitutions for dietary restrictions - booooooo!!!!!!!

Yummy - will try again!. I went to La Bettola for the first time as I was craving pasta. The restaurant is modern and cool, and I had my meal at the bar. I ordered grilled octopus (with veggie/salad) and a spaghetti with clams in a creamy wine sauce. Both were delicious and met my expectations. I also tried Krombacher beer for the first time! Will definitely visit again, I want to try their pizzas next.
Angie Law
Great food, spotty service. I've now had dinner twice at La Bettola (it's one of the nicer dining experiences within walking distance of the Canon Theatre) and in both cases, I thought the food was very good and the service was indifferent during the first visit but really good the second time. The difference in service was likely attributable to the amount of people both in the restaurant and waiting at the door ... note, this restaurant does NOT take reservations. So, the key learning is that if you want great service, go early or don't go at all. However, even if the service isn't great, the food certainly is. The beef carpaccio was one of the best I have had in recent memory - the meat beautifully aged and flavoured. I also tried the potato croquettes - a nice crisp to them and the meat filling is good, but this is probably a dish that looks slightly better than it tastes. On the salad front, both the tuna salad and beet salad were excellent. From a "mains" perspective, I had the Spaghetti al Cacio e Pepe (with cheese and pepper) on both visits. The menu does "warn" you that the spaghetti is served very al dente. The first time I had it, I didn't find this to be true, but the 2nd time, the spaghetti itself was different and it was almost crunchy. I also tried the Strozzapreti with the N'duja sausage which was outstanding but the sausage was so spicy that we needed bread to wash it down (and I love heat)! Haven't tried the pizza yet, but looking at the tables around us, it's clearly very popular and looks quite good. Did not try dessert as there was nothing on the menu which inspired me and I'm more of a savoury gal than sweet.

Really? How long are we willing to accept condescending insulting service to be told it is authentic Italian cuisine? The service and food was so unaccommadating, and felt so isulted by the wait staff (and later a manager) that it is the first time I have ever walked out of a restaurant and left a $0 tip (I know it, its very un-Canadian of me...it is also the first time I have ever felt passionate enough to write a review). I was flatly refused butter for bread for my 7 year old daughter, flatly refused Balsamic to go with the olive oil for my bread - once the butter was denied. And then again condesendingly refuse balsamic with my caprese salad....as I was informed the chef refuses to allow the wait staff to bring balsamic even if a customer asks..I was upset enough to ask for the manager only to be spoken down to...... quoting the manager "this is authenic Italian style"...."and the Terroni managment will not allow us to make any accommadations"<br/><br/>I am sorry but I have been to Italy a few times...and condesending, unaccommadating service is not authentic. <br/><br/>Sorry Terroni...but as a customer of your Balmoral location..you have lost me for life. When did you forget your in the service industry?

Overrated!. Unfortunately , terroni has lost that touch , the food is not good, rice balls that tatse like they came from a package, poor service, soggy pizza , very uncomfortable surroundings.<br/><br/>who likes this stuff??? <br/><br/>off to find a real italian , .......pizzeria
Steve
Loved it. Great personal service, you must try the appetizers.Home-made pasta was excellent.
Omar Smith
Really silly. I hope the Terroni trend is over. I had heard about their schtick and arrogance but didn't believe it. With the food being super bland and tasteless and their arrogance which earnt them zero tip I will not be back. GOOD LUCK AND YOU ARE RID OF ME.
LR-R
Always busy, very fresh food. Their coffee is really good, even the cappuccinos to go.<br/>If you go alone, be prepared to sit at the counter.<br/>I am a fan of all pizza options with fresh arugula on top (added after baking).<br/>Very noisy though, so take that into consideration.<br/>I look forward to the new location around the corner, to see what it will become. Hope the prices do not increase too much there.

If you're the type who rejoices at Terroni's ever growing empire then this little tidbit is for you. The maestros of casual Italian have opened their fab new joint, La Bettola di Terroni on Victoria Street, attached to the bottom end of their popular Osteria Ciceri E Tria. A recent rainy night visit had us seated promptly in the wine-bar style space, which features an abbreviated version of the full Terroni menu. Look for a handful of new and very delicious items on the antipasti end, like the arrancini di modica—deep fried balls of rice filled with mozzarella and ragu—and the wonderfully deep-fried zucchini fritters. The wine selection has blossomed into a delightful selection of obscure choices, including a tasty pinot nero. Best dish of the night: the delectable dessert nutella frittelle dolci. Worth the trip alone. La Bettola di Terroni, 106 Victoria St. (at Richmond St. E.), Toronto, 416-504-9998 (no reservations), www.labettoladiterroni.com © Copyright 2014 Comments NOTE: To post

Overall, I think La Bettola Di Terroni is a nice classy restaurant if you want to splurge for the night. I noticed every woman I saw there was wearing a bold statement necklace and men also were well-dressed. It caters to that type of crowd and I think you should be prepared to spend. I would suggest getting the pizza for sure though, completely worth the money.

La Bottela Di Terroni is a restaurant located within walking distance of the Toronto's Eaton Centre. The restaurant is actually separated into two separate wings - La Bottela Di Terroni & Osteria Cicerietria. Di Terroni is serves mainly pizzas & paninis whilst Osteria serves mainly homemade pastas. Today Memie and I tried the Di Terroni.  I stumbled across it with Memie when we were walking to our reservation for Winterlicious at Starfish. Needless to say, the quality of food here is very high - reminding me of the caliber of Italian food I had during my visit to Italy last year.  The high prices were also indicator quality ingredients.  We both ordered paninis - which are only served during lunch - I had the Panino Classico & Memie had the Panino con Salmone. We split both of our paninis in h

Whenever I walk past La Bettola di Terroni I am always enticed by the wafts of garlic and butter aromas.  Unfortunately, it is usually during my lunch hour that I take a leisurely stroll and by then I’ve already eaten. Don’t let the name fool you – this is no “hole-in-the-wall.”  The interiors are very inviting as you walk through the glass doors and are greeted by Mr. Pig (read hanging legs of Parma prosciutto) and Mrs. Pasta (racks of pasta).  Talk about being a tease!  The interior is very modern with leather banquettes and exposed brick.  I like that there’s an exposed brick alcove (which reminds me of a wood-fired oven), but the pizzas don’t come out of there – it’s just filled with liquor! A rolled down, brown paper bag serves as the bread “basket.”  I’ve always had the mantra that the measure of a quality restaurant starts from the bread.  If their bread basket is crap, don’t expect much.  The one at La Bet was neither here nor there.  It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t fresh eit

So the question comes down to would I come back? My honest answer? Probably not. The pasta was fresh and tasty, but nothing I couldn't get at many other restaurants. The prices at Osteria were pretty expensive for a relatively small plate of pasta. That combined with the service has left a bad impression in my mind about Osteria...maybe that will change in the future, but for now, I don't plan on coming back.<br/>
David Kong
The most impressive is the lob of creamy buffalo mozzarella – it stretches and disintegrates beautifully, unlike the fior di lattes that go for half the price. The deep-fried dishes are immaculate.
David Kong
The Italian roots remain strong: the first pasta is a Cacio e Pepe, a cheese and pepper pasta dish in every corner of Rome. Today, it was a red fife-crusted tuna, glowing pink, on a cool eggplant paste.

Mark, Thomas and I decide on Agnolotti filled with shredded beef, we have had them before.  They were delicious, very rich and just filled with wonderful tasty shredded beef.  This time it appeared to be a larger portion than in the past (we all agreed).   Katie had the cavatelli alla norma (hand made cavatelli with fried eggplant and ricotta salata) it was delicious and filling. We were so satisfied there was no room for dessert, although we saw many going by our table that looked fabulous.  It was extremely noisy in the restaurant, which needs some noise reducing materials that are softer.  We have been here before and will probably return again. http://labettola.ca/ Posted by Fooody at 20:21

In the area, its probably a good idea to head here for a guaranteed pleasant Italian meal. I don’t think you’ll be wow’d necessarily and I questioned the portion sizes a couple times, but I did enjoy the food for the most part. I do feel dumb for not actually ordering the Ciceri e Tria (traditional Pugliese stew). It’s probably really good…let me know. Cheers. Read full review...

I like the concept here and I think it’s executed well for the most part. The prices are reasonable, the food is authentic and we had wonderful service. Read full review...

I really liked it. There was a certain something about the place that made me feel kind of strange, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. Perhaps the juxtaposition of modern and tradition was throwing me off, maybe it was Wednesday, or perhaps it is more of a place I would like for lunch, or maybe it was the random religious relics placed beside the pipes near our table. But, a "strange feeling" is not exactly worthy of critique, so don't let that hold you back. I also really want to give it's Terroni neighbour, Osteria, a try soon to compare!

ORECCHIETTE CON CIME DI RAPA - handmade orecchiette with rapini, anchovies, chili, bread crumbs and garlic. I enjoyed it a lot since it complimented well with all the other antipastis and my drink. I especially liked the rapini, I don’t normally like that type of vegetables but with this pasta, it added a great texture and kick to it!

Friday night delight at La Bettola

This meal was pretty disappointing because I always enjoy my food at Terroni (Check out my review here). I know that I did not enjoy my meal here because I obviously went out of my comfort zone and ordered things I normally wouldn't order. It's unfortunate because the service was so much better than what I normally get dining at Terroni. Although my food experience this time was mostly based on what I ordered- that is big part of dining experience- so I can't help it but to choose Terroni over La Bertolla Terroni.

I am really on the fence about this dish due to the lack of consistency.

we were all immediately impressed by the glass-walled pantry in the entranceway.

The anitpasti menu changes often depending on chef's choice and what is in season.

We went to Osteria, where Terroni used to be located, for dinner one night with Mike's cousins. Apparently, it's owned by Terroni. They served us with bread. I think it was mini ciabatta bread - my favourite! We had the 2-course prix fixe menu. There were 5 appetizers in bite size form. From left to right - Sformato di ricotta e mortadella - sformato with mortadella and goat ricotta mousse. I totally gave this one to Mike and didn't bother trying. Zeppole di mare - Seafood and vegetable fritters. This was delicious! Crostino Sveltino - marinated tomato and pasta filata on crostini. I tried a bite and gave the rest to Mike. Zuppetta - soup of mixed beans and vegetables. This wasn't bad. Polpette e carciofi - traditional meat balls in artichoke and white wine sauce. This was pretty good too. For the main, I chose the Maccheroni della domenica - Handmade maccheroni with Ontario beef ragu in tomato sauce with pecorino. While I really enjoyed the pasta, as it

What a nice little place for visiting with friends! Accessible for wheelchairs, too! <br/><br/>Great atmosphere and fun menu! I had the C'T Mang pizza on the recommendation of a friend and was delighted at the flavour combination! The calamari and selection of regional meats were both shareable, delicious appetisers.

Bettola never disappoints. I just ordered today's special, a duck leg served with fingerling potatoes roasted in duck fat. The portion is a tad small I must say. It came with a salad of thin fennel shavings, pomegranate seeds and blood oranges. Stunning! The service is excellent, friendly and fast. I always sit at the bar. Atmosphere is casually elegant and energetic.

Starving after a day of shopping at an awkward restaurant hour La Bettola didn't even blink. We were whisked inside, given a warm welcome and a glass of wine. Service superb, the ambiance true Italian joy and great food. We loved our pizza so much we had 2. Then my daughter munched on a perfect carpaccio with grassy olive oil and loads of Parmigiano. A must visit.
