Great spot for connecting with friends, server helpful in choosing one of the many (70 ish) varieties of beers. Selection of food on the menu delicious, had haddock and fresh cut fries yummy. Great spot.
Don't know what happened on the previous reviews of this place. Looked like a bad streak. But I have to say we had great service and food. I will make my way out there again because of it. And how can you go wrong with their beer selection?!
The best pub all! I really like ... the waiters are friendly .... food and beer are good
Great place to have a drink and a bite to eat. Friendly staff too
Friendly service, great spot to meet with friends and grab a bite before or after a visit at AGO. Loved the vegetarian options!
The waiter was funny and very knowledgeable about all the beer and even shared his cheater glasses so we could read the menu. lol
OMG such a great place ! Staff, food, drinks everything was awesome!! Bravo
My bf and I were visiting Toronto walked into the Village idiot and we both were greatly surprised by the great food, great beer and the atmosphere was awesome!!!....
Was there for the first time yesterday, loved it! The food was awesome, the service was amazing even though it was packed! Selection of beer phenomenal!! Will def be a regular!
We just stopped in for drinks, and everything was great! Server was very helpful with suggestions for a red beer -- my husband had a Palm Belgian beer which he said was the best he'd ever had (and he has sampled many Red / amber beers). Wonderful atmosphere, and great selection for adult beverages. Will definitely go back.
Cozy place, friendly folk, fabulous beer selection on tap, and the BEST fries and gravy in town.
Super amazing food and amazing prices! It's a cozy real pub feel! Clean tables clean and friendly staff bathrooms were clean and the food was amazing!!! Will be back soon!!!!
Gord and I had supper at the Village Idiot Pub.
We both ordered a Village Idiot Burger ... I got mine with mozza cheese, no lettuce and no onions and Gord got his with cheddar cheese and no tomatoes. We both agreed that it was a really good burger and fries and we'd get it again.
Mike took good care of us.
Great Food, Great Beer, Great Service, Great Atmosphere!!!
Lunch Break from AGO. We all had items off the daily specials menu: Fish/chips and Pulled Pork Sandwich. Also some german beers. Thoroughly enjoyed-I hardly ever clear my plate. My only complaint would be the tartar sauce. Fish this good deserves homemade tartar sauce!
I love this place. They have an amazing variety of tap beers from all over. Servers are courteous. Its my go to place. Their sun dried pesto fries are to die for. Their pastas are full of authentic Italian flavours. The Fool Pizza is hot. They even have daily specials. Nachos come in huge portions. I would recommend going here any day. The ambience is chill and laid back. Its a nice spot to catch up over drink with old buds or even office mates. Again i love the servers.
While a tad loud (I mean, it IS a pub), we really enjoyed our evening out at this establishment.
Food: I ordered the poutine and we shared the bailey's cheesecake; both were AWESOME! The poutine had really amazing fries and real mozzarella that stretched for a mile; however, the gravy wasn't anything special, but it wasn't bad. As for the cheesecake, I wish we'd ordered it without the cherry drizzle, but otherwise it was a great combination of cheesecake bottom and bailey's mousse top. Delicious!
Service: We were kind of a pain for our server, switching seats for a better setting, but she was very kind about it and very sweet the entire meal. Our food came quickly, and our bill came promptly when asked for, all with a friendly smile. You can't ask for much more than that :)
Price: The pints are a tad pricey (but the beer selection is great!), but the food is reasonably-priced and comes in very generous portions. The poutine was 7.50 and was huge for me, and my friend got a wrap with a side of fries and the fries were piled high and tumbling off the big plate. Very happy with the quantity and quality for the cost!
Summary: I greatly enjoyed the late dinner here. Sure it was a tad loud, but the food was delicious, our server was friendly, and the price was right. All around great experience! Definitely recommended :)
After finishing a visit to the AGO, we were looking for a place for lunch, and the Zomato app showed the Village Idiot Pub very close by. We had passed this place many times over the years, and the name usually brings a smile of amusement to my face, so we decided to give it a try. This is a very quaint and cozy pub, with a very dark decor.
Today we ordered our food from the choice of lunch specials. SWMBO had the Fish & Chips, which featured crispy battered, deep-fried haddock. Well cooked, tender flaky fish, with decent fries. I had the Lobster Salad Sandwich, which had a generous portion of the lobster salad. The sweetness of the lobster came through. I guess I would have preferred a bit less of the sauce and more lobster, but then the sandwich probably would have cost more than $12.50.
That and a pint made the meal. I'd go back.
Hard to miss this place mostly because of its location and its name. It stands nice and pretty around the corner of Dundus and McCaul street. We ended up here after a last minute change in plans and boy, weren't we lucky?! The ambience is cozy and nice & the staff very welcoming. They have an extensive beer menu and their idiot fries are to crave for. All in all an ideal place to hangout with a beer and would definitely recommend it! There is absolutely nothing idiotic about the place!😊
I've been here maybe a half dozen times now, and still plan to go back. The selection is good, hitting a lot of the major beers in UK and Germany. They've ran out of a couple of my favs a couple times but servers know what they're talking about and price is good
Village Idiot is a prime location for a post AGO visit. Can sit with your companion discussing the art that you just saw over a pint. The pub has a decent selection of imported drafts and bottles. The food is your traditional pub fare...nothing special. The atmosphere is dark and cozy and smells majority of the time like fish and chips. The prices are not ridiculous and the service is okay. Decent place. Will likely go back after my next AGO visit.
36 bears on draft amazing. I went for fish and chips and was okay. The service was great.
Lots of good beers on tap food tasty cute place nice staff great location will be back
Really really good wing! Good beer selection too.
Best beer selection!! That is undeniable, but the food they make is usually very terrible... You'll never go wrong with fries and sometimes fish and chip(really depends on a day) Service is generally okay.. I love going there for beer/cider

Beer Haven!. To begin with, the beer selection is just mind boggling! And to make it even better, they serve the beer in their proper glasses. Thats important if you are a beer lover!
The VIP burger is super good, and there fries are even better! If you like garlic and your girlfriend doesn't mind the smell when you need to kiss her then get the VIP fries!
I love this place! Great wings, the bartender Mel always writes my name in my guiness, I come because of her!!
Classic. I have know been to the place several times and have had a great time every time. Decent pub food and a pretty impressive selection of beer to make up for it, a vast selection of spirits as well. The place always seems to be lively, even on the off nights, and the crowd is pretty mixed. Great atmosphere, I personally love the decor because it looks like a pub should. Will be back very soon!
Village Idiot Pub is a small lil pub offering a large variety of beers. I'm in love with this place! I had Frulerium which was suggested by the server and I must say, It's the best beer I've had so far. The food options are good too. I had the garlic bread with cheese and chicken wings. Totally enjoyed it! All in all, Village Idiot Pub is a great place to chill with a bunch of friends and try some really good beer.
Cozy little pub! Loved the ambiance from the get-go, but not as much as I loved the extensive beer list - lots of fun stuff to choose from! They have a nice food menu as well, although I went with the special at that time - a pulled pork sandwich and Manhattan clam chowder. They were both great, although I did kick myself for not going with the meat pie or bangers & mash, which seem more fitting for this place. Definitely a great spot to meet for beers with friends and have some nice food to match - would definitely return!
Firstly, the name makes you curious and makes you want to try out Village Idiot Pub!
And I wasn't disappointed at all. I, in fact, love Village Idiot Pub.
The ambience is warm and welcoming. It isn't a big pub but I could see people coming here for dates as well. They have a couple of high stools closer to the bar and seating on the lower section of the pub. Service is quite decent and servers are quick at their feet.
They have a wide selection of beers to choose from and the selection doesn't disappoint at all.
I ordered the Bangers & Mash and it was pretty sweet! No rocket science with the dish here, but I loved their mashed potatoes. They were really good.
Definitely recommend this place in case you're looking for a chilled out evening, with some great beer and good food!
The Village Idiot is a cozy pub located right at the corner of the intersection of Dundas and McCaul and you would not be able to miss it, With the large roll out windows (open air pub, i think that's what they call it) which is really nice during the summers. They have a variety of drinks, nibbles and actual main course items and most of them if not all are delicious. They also have some really awesome daily chef specials. The prices are reasonable and the service is great.
