Review Yuzu - Toronto

Sophia X
This is definitely one of the best omakase I ever had in DT Toronto. With $120 per person, you are definitely getting your bang on the buck. The sashimi is so tender and refreshing, the beef tartare is great and delicious, and the macha dessert with the gooseberry is my fav, and the uni… oh boy I’m in paradise… You are getting a variety of different tastes and it’s awesome!

Got their buy 1 get 1 free deal for $30; this is meant to be $30 quality per bowl but we paid $15 each. They gathered all the end bits of fish that wouldn’t be used for serving but wastage. This fancy Japanese restaurant literally threw all the food wastage in our orders and let us pay for $30. The two bowls don’t have same kinds of fishes as they literally threw food wastage. I don’t know when they cut the fishes, and how they kept. Disgusting.

Came in for dinner on Jan 2nd. First impression: establishment was under staffed? We made reservations and when we got inside we had to wait a long time before we were greeted and seated. Two servers just walked passed us without saying anything. Service: Our waiter was nice but seemed a bit distracted and busy. He was probably juggling a lot of tasks like take out. When we ordered two of the 12pc dinner deluxe, I told the server that for mine, I would like no mushrooms in the pieces (it came with the futomaki). When we got it, it had mushrooms in both orders. We notified the server and he quickly took the dishes back. When we got it back it seems the chef has replaced both rolls with an entirely different roll (salmon avo) instead of just taking out the mushrooms in the futomaki. We were also confused why they replaced my partner’s rolls as well since I was the only one with the dietary restrictions. Nevertheless we just decided to roll with it and not make a fuss. Food/Drinks: Food was good but we definitely had better o-toro nigiri before. Drinks weren’t too visually appealing but were on the cheaper side ($12) so that was fine.

Food is very good. Perfect temperature. Prices have sky rocketed i think. Service was very good pre pandemic. Got take out this time.

Food is good, but inflation is real. Very fresh and everything intacted when delivered by Uber. Presentation could be a bit better given the premium price. At least less plastic and in a nicer container would help.

I tried Yuzu No Hana for the first time. I ordered the sushi dinner on Uber Eats and it was arrived well packaged. Miso soup was good, fish was fresh, rice was well made and presented well. The variety was disappointing for $56 tax in, for that price at Yuzuki I could have gotten the premium sushi combo which includes: 1x uni nigiri 1x otoro nigiri 1x chu toro nigiri 1x maguro nigiri 1x ikura nigiri 1x hirame nigiri 1x kinmedai nigiri 1x madai nigiri 1x hamachi nigiri 1x kanpachi nigiri 1x hotate nigiri 6x negi toro roll

This is one of the best sushi restaurants i’ve ever been to in Toronto! Service was amazing, and the quality of the fish was awesome! There was way more filling in the rolls than rice, and each bite was to die for. Definitely would come again!

Fresh food always, great service, and always reasonably priced. If you’re looking for a quick sit down sushi place, Yuzu No Hana is exactly what your looking for. Absolutely nothing bad to say and I can’t wait to continue eating here!

I really don't recommend this place. The manager was not friendly and it just seems like a money grab. If you are looking for a mediocre meal with poor customer service, then sure try it out.
Erika Hinzman
The fish was fresh and delicious with a beautiful presentation. I had the spicy tuna crunch roll (could have been a little spicier but still excellent) and then sashimi (tuna, yellowtail and salmon). Generous portions...and an extra piece from what was on the menu. I will definitely come back next time I'm in Toronto.

Overall, the food service was fine and the staff were courteous and friendly.

As a regular to Sushi service; things don't always arrive in the order or the timing you wish; it comes as the chef makes your super delicious meal... servered fresh & beautiful We had a combination of items from Miso soup to Sushi, Sushimi, and the CHIRASHI -sashimi rice bowl & some fresh oysters We were greeted with Hot Green Tea; a very pleasant waitress & everything looked & tasted wonderful .. we will return :) :) :) :) Thank you Yuzu for being open on Sunday for lunch

Fish is very fresh. Great place for sushi.

Great sushi! Really enjoyed the Yuzu special roll.
Daniel Wade
Best sushi in town. Love this place. Fresh fish is the key to happiness.
Lily Leung
Service was slow. Sashimi was fresh only if you order it a la carte and hamachi Kama was good. BUT the bento box was NOT good at all. Beef was salty, tampera was soggy and sashimi fish used for the bento box was cheap bad cuts, fishy. Will I go back. NO.

The quality of food was great but it’s the service that’s lacking in my opinion. Went here for my partner’s birthday celebration with our friends. We enjoyed everything we ordered and afterwards, before we billed out the server brought the Yuzu cheesecake for the celebrant. In other restaurants, they give a complimentary slice of cake/dessert when someone is celebrating but here, they gave us a tiny tiny sliver, barely an inch wide which they charged us $10 for. We wouldn’t have minded paying for the cake but to be honest it was not worth it at all.

The best sushi that I've ever had. Everything taste fresh and great. Fantastic presentation and great service. Can't wait to go back and try more items

The sashimi was super fresh and great variety. It was also very aesthetically pleasing with the use of leaves, flowers, and vegetable to accent the dish. The only issue I had with my dining experience was that the table was quite dirty and sticky. Despite this, I still enjoyed this spot and would return.

At first the service was steallar. It was a chilly and I was quickly offered some green tea as I was seated at the sushi counter. As I peered over the menu, I was offered a spinach amuse bouche which was quite fresh and delicate. I decided on a few of the chef’s sashimi choices including King Salmon and an order of uni. Both came quickly and were ridiculously fresh and beautifully presented. I was reminded once again why uni is one of the most unique foods around. It was silky and naughty.

I also went with my sushi standards; miso soup, gyoza and spicy tuna rolls along with their house specialty yuzu roll . The dumplings were some of the best I’ve had in Toronto. The miso was spot on as well. The rolls were acceptable but average. I was a bit disappointed about both the taste and appearance of the spicy rolls. The yuzu rolls (which was topped with torched salmon and scallop) were nicely presented but were overly sweet for my liking. With my tea long gone and my dishes empty, I did need to wait a bit for the bill which seemed to correspond with the surge of online orders from uber eats, foodie, hurrier and whatever other food delivery services that might exist. The ground zero of assembly was right beside me and the paper bags were flying out the door as I was ignored just a little bit.

In the end, although I wasn’t overly thrilled by the sushi rolls the gyoza, sashimi and miso soup were excellent. All in all I enjoyed the experience and it met the aforementioned criteria for a mid-range sushi joint even without the help of the urbanspoon slot machine.

A lot of you may not know but it is created by the same owner as Japango. But for some reason, I have always preferred Japango over this place, especially for Chirashi. I recently went back to try their Omakase, and it sort of redeemed itself to me. For $55, you get

Food is exceptionally good! Their Sashimi is always very fresh and served at the right temperature. A great date spot. Service is a little slower than average.

We just ordered this from yuzo no Hana. Absolutely the worst sushi we have ever tried and this is what you got for $71. This place should be ashamed of itself. We are huge sushi lovers. This was a total ripoff. Steer clear!!!
Guangqi Zhou
we had sashimi and assorted roll. best sashimi in toronto. The sakes are also good and not expensive. I definitely will visit this place again!
Izayoyi
I love this place! Went there with my friend who came here for visiting and is a Japanese cuisine lover. We ordered uni sushi and this the best one I ever had! I also recommend matcha tiramisu as the dessert! Yuzu everything roll was just like its name with almost everything in it, including unagi, tamago, avocado, tempura shrimp and so many other things!
Jessica Zheng
Service is mediocre. They seem to be more enthusiastic towards business-dressed customers. Their hot dishes are very good. However, sushi is very average. The presentations are pretty but the fish are not very fresh and lack flavour. For a similar price range, I would recommend JaBistro and ND Sushi over this place anytime.

Yuzu No Hana is a small sushi bar/ izakaya on Adelaide St by Duncan. The place itself is rather cozy and not as big as many of the other places around (and definitely not as loud). The menu here focuses mainly on sushi with some Japanese kitchen items as well.

We ordered the Chef's Sushi Plate ($30), Waafu steak ($26), Seafood Udon, and an extra plate of seared tuna belly nigiri ($7). The Chef's sushi plate consists of 12 pieces of chef's choice sushi and 3 maki pieces. Some of the notables were red tuna, salmon, seared eel, uni, and scallop (though you should expect this to change depending on season and night).

The waafu steak is a nice cut of steak that they prepare sliced already for you so that you don't need a knife and fork (chopsticks are going to be just fine). The steak flavor was great and enhanced by a light sweet sauce as well. The seafood udon had a couple of large shrimp, mussels, fish, crabmeat, etc. The broth was very flavorful and aromatic, while the udon noodles were done a perfect al dente so they maintained their texture without getting mushy.

The service here is stellar as they are friendly and prompt. Don't expect anyone to yell to greet you or anything. Just real unassuming and a nice intimate place for a date. They have an omakase that might be worth a try, but are required to call a day in advance for.
Cathy Salverda
I have always likes this place. Fresh sashimi. Interesting omakase. Friendly staff.

Recently I went there again. Their uni was not as fresh as I was expected. A little disappointment to their "live uni" from Tsukiji market because I had live uni from the shell when i was at Tsukiji Market in Japan.

Their tuna tatare was little different. Usually, it was chopped up and with avocado at the bottom and some soya sauce. This one was like tuna sashimi on top of the sliced avocado and home made soya sauce around it. It tastes great, but just didnt expected it that way. The portion is little smaller than what you can get from other places.

Their desserts are good. I like all three of their desserts. I think my preference changed a bit now. Sake cheesecake would be my fave now.

They used to have a lot of selection in sake. Yet, it seems they have cut down their choices. :(

Their soft shell crab appetizer and spider roll were very tasty!
Melanie Foley
Good sushi, very fresh. The service is fast, and The place is very calm and beautiful. Incredible choice of sake, expensive a bit but worth a try!

Great experience and excellent variety! My companion and I started with the tuna tartare and calamari both were great! Lots of different flavours to enjoy. We both had the deluxe sashimi plate and were definitely not disappointed! The variety of fresh fish was great and by far the best albacore I have ever had! The wasabi was fresh and the beer was flowing. The service was a little inconsistent but we weren't in a rush so that was ok. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone. All in all a great place with some great food.
Geoff Sharun
Fresh seafood, difficult to order due to language barrier. Great location, great prices. Experience the piss while you order the sushi lunch deluxe.

Amazing sushi place right downtown Toronto
Best sushi ever and reasonably priced
Super service great menu
You should try the sashimi spicy salad and the o-toro turba belly very rarely available at other restaurants

If you're looking to pair your sushi with the perfect sake, look no further than Yuzu No Hana. The restaurant offers both delicious, fresh sashimi and tasty rolls, as well as an array of alcoholic delights to go with it (there's a reason this place is in the Entertainment District).

To start off your dinner, I'd recommend the oyster shooter as a sumptuous opener as well as the tuna avocado tartare — the avocado and tuna pair beautifully.

As for the à la carte menu, Yuzo no Hana offers a good variety of all the fish you'd hope to find—squid, tuna, salmon, sea bream, shrimp, crab, mackerel, sea urchin, and more. Some vegetarian options are also available.
The desserts are also worth a try, especially the sake cheese cake and sesame ice cream!
Lia
Excellent sashimi and the avocado tuna tartare is TO DIE FOR!!!
Adam J.
For how much you pay at Yuzu compared to other sushi spots, I wouldn't come back for that reason alone. Let me quickly say that the quality of their ingredients are really high, no doubt. But when you pay $75 for two people and one drink each for sushi, well, you start to care a little less about that. Add on the fact the service was non-existant and it combined for a pretty disappointing night out. Our servers first words when we sat was "are you ready to order". I kid you not. Nothing about wanting drinks or describing a little about the menu. We went one hour without anybody so much as checking in or taking our plates. Take your money elsewhere for sushi in the city, you'll be happy you did.
Hellokitty0313
My friend and I tried this Japanese place in the Entertainment District. Pretty nice atmosphere, our table was facing the sushi chef. We got the Yokihi cocktail – sweet and refreshing taste of lychee and pomegranate with a splash of sake. Very refreshing and resemble like a Bellini. We first start off with soft shell crab with ponzu sauce. Freshly fried but not much taste to it even with the sauce. Next was the sashimi platter of the chef’s selection, from salmon to tuna and other fish that I couldn’t remember. Really fresh, really tasty, I especially like the white fish.

Sometimes letting friends choose the dishes cam turn out to be a disaster. This isn't one of those places, so extend the offer and sit back with the comfort and knowledge that whichever dish may appear is delicious.

Great quality food. Delicious, fresh and good service.

Absolutely the Best Sushi mike and I have ever had. Just ask them to feed you and you will be treated to a royal feast (make sure you have a good limit on you Visa). Worth every cent and more. Just a perfect meal.

Amazing sushi and sake!! Our server was fantastic made great recommendations and treated us like royalty. We try to visit a sushi place in every city we stay and this one is definitely one of the top. We will be back next time were in Toronto!

Very nice! Delicious sushi! I recommend ordering for the specials because everything else is good but nothing compared to what's fresh! But you cannot leave without their signature YUZU roll! I also recommend the scallops on crispy rice along with the pork belly and kimchi!

Hands down the best Japanese Resto in town. !!
Karen
Faux crab. The owner's relatives must be writing the positive reviews. Weird, stringy tuna, "goberge" instead of real crab, and shrimp that may have been edible at one point but had horrible, horrible things done to it before it reached my table. Maybe it fell on the kitchen floor and was kicked around. Less than supermarket quantity. Decor was fine, server was fine, food was inexplicable and inexcusable. The chef has been no closer to Japan than Etobicoke.

No thanks.. Sushi rice was mushy. Tempura batter was nothing but thick and soggy. The main courses arrived before the appetizers and finally ended up with the appetizers and entrees all at once - defeats the purpose of having an 'appetizer'. Definitely not recommended.
Foodgasmic.
A fresh presentation.. We made reservations the day before we went, it was our first time so we didn't know if it's going to be busy on a Monday. When we walked in, I was taken by surprise that the place wasn't as spacious as I imagined it would be, there were only a few tables on the left of the sushi bar and some in front. The table that we reserved was next to a window, although it wasn't much of a view, it is still nice to look out a window once in a while. The decor of the place was very modern and had sake bottles on the ledge of two walls. At first we wanted to order the hiramasa and hirame nigiri, but I was so disappointed when the waitress told me they were out of hiramasa and hirame, but she insisted us trying the seabream. So we end up ordering an oyster shooter, chirashizushi deluxe, yuzu maki, o toro sashimi, seabream nigiri and uni nigiri as a replacement for the hiramasa and hirame, First came the miso soup and salad that comes with the chirashizushi. I like the nutty flavour from the salad dress which brings out an earthy tone to the it. Next came my oyster shooter, it was presented in a wooden box with a shot glass in it. I find that it tasted better when I broke the yoke of the quail egg that was sitting on top of the raw oyster. If you like oysters, one shot would not be enough since it all goes by so quickly. When our o toro sashimi arrived, it was assembled on a big white place with 3 pieces of sashimi that had edible gold leaves on top, the presentation of this dish was absolutely beautiful. The o toro was extremely fresh and literally melted in my mouth. The chirashizushi was different from other chirashizushi I've eaten before, rather than having the rice and the bottom and the sashimi on top, it was split into two sections next to each other. Although I do prefer the rice from zen but they have the sweetest sweet shrimp ever! The sweetness tasted like the natural sweetness from the shrimp, which was quite refreshing. Probably the best sweet shrimp I've ever ate. The seabream nigiri again was remarkably fresh, but the uni on the other hand tasted ordinary, nothing too spectacular. Last came our yuzu maki, the plate was lit on fire before serving to us. The yuzu maki consisted shrimp tempura, spicy scallop, avocado, tobiko and was sprinkled with edible gold leaves as a final touch. It had a little kick to it but yet it didn't overpower the taste of the other ingredients. Definitely a must for those who are going to yuzu.

Fresh. The sashimi was so fresh, and the maki were delicious! Staff was very friendly as well.
Food For Thought
Best ever. So those who think a sushi restaurant should be judged on the quantity of food, this place isn't necessarily for you. While the portions are correct, they are not an all-you-can eat sushi buffet. This is sushi done right, the emphasis is on the presentation, quality and freshness of the fish and YUZU excels in all three categories. Add to this friendly staff and an inviting atmosphere and you are bound to enjoy your 'experience' here, and that is truly what is on the menu at YUZU; a great sushi experience.
Nika
Best Sushi I've Ever Had!. Their sushi does not even compare to any other place. It's always fresh and very creatively designed! Service is great and the staff is very friendly!

We have long been fans of yuzu and japango where the sushi is always fresh. Sake selection is superb.

Upper Scale Sushi!. Definitely NOT your run-of-the-mill sushi joint which seem to litter every Toronto block!

Decor is tastefully minimalist, with dark chocolate floors and walls. I went for lunch, so I can only imagine that it would be a romantic spot for dinner. Gentleman, take note!

Salad came with a delicious, non-vinegarette based dressing. It was leaning more on the soy sauce+garlic side, as opposed to the overdone orange juice+vinegar. I prefer this savoury dressing!

Attention was paid to presentation of the sushi. (We ordered Sushi Lunch - $16, Philly Roll - $8, & Madai (Chef's Choice) Nigiri - $8.) Very delicate decoration on select nigiri pieces, wasabi was a smaller dab, as opposed to glob, and pickled ginger was white, not pink.

Everything was very fresh, no "questionable" seafood. Absolutely delicious, for people who are able to appreciate a subtle, more delicate palate!

Sashimi deluxe is the bomb. This is one of my favourite places for sushi and sashimi. The omakasi is the greatest deal but the sushi is really good and the sashimi deluxe is incredible. I've taken many friends there and can't wait to go back.
KP
Not bad, although I like my sushi and sashimi to be all about the fish. A bit of miso with fresh wasabi is enough to compliment a fresh hunk of fish. Although this place "decorates" the fish too much to my liking - some of my sashimi had been seared brown outside with bits of hotsause. The salmon sushi was covered in multi coloured sesame seed, I do not know why. These kind of condements really took away the flavors of the sushi and sashimi - only explainable reason for this would be to cover the staleness of the sushi. Despite that being said, the freshness was average. Wasabi was the non-real kind as well. Sadly though, this is probably the better Japanese you'll find in toronto.

4 stars. Excellent! Fresh! Creative!

Excellent sushi!! I went in just to try it out and left $80 poorer. I had the chef's choice sushi appetizer and Alaska roll for starters. Both were so good that I progressed right into the sushi dinner, which consisted of 8 pieces (again chef's choice) plus a California roll. After that, I was sated, paid my bill, and thanked the Itamae before leaving. If you want great sushi while in Toronto, you should definitely stop by Yuzu.
Om Nom Nom Nom
Upscale Sushi. Somewhat more expensive than the other sushi restaurants on Queen, it's pretty comparable to Fune. As long as you're prepared to spend over $30 for dinner, it's definitely worth it. The quality and variety is a level higher than the other sushi joints. For an experience that's much different from the hundreds of sushi restaurants in the city, give Yuzu a try.
Meredi
Quite good. Personally I'm not enough of a sushi connoisseur to really appreciate this place, but it was still excellent.

I was disappointed that there weren't any super-affordable lunch specials.

My friend and I ended up getting four rolls and splitting: yam tempura, dynamite (shrimp), salmon and avocado, and california.

The rolls were definitely a cut above (particularly the dynamite roll) but honestly I won't be in a huge rush to return because I just am not willing to pay this much for sushi for lunch. I'd rather go to Ho-Su around the corner and get a great maki combo for $8 or $9.

Sorry YUZU, I still like you and would consider you for dinner any time!
JJ
One word: wow. My room mate and I went here for dinner one night when we were both craving sushi, and we were both absolutely amazed at how great it was. The soft shelled crab was incredible, and each piece on the deluxe sushi dinner was more a piece of gastronomical art than any sushi I have ever encountered before, especially at this price range. Couple that with a friendly and attentive staff and an unbelievable attention to detail, and you have my new favorite sushi place. An absolute hidden gem, be sure to check it out before word gets out and it becomes as popular as it should be.

Phenominal Meal. Wife and I shook up Urban Spoon and ended up here. We were a little afraid when we came in on Saturday night at around 7:00 PM and there was nobody there! Not close to empty....actually no other patrons than my wife and I. We asked the waitress what gives and she said that Saturdays have been dead since Christmas. In their defense the weather was frightful. On the up side we got our pick of tables. They took great care of us. We had salad, soup, sahimi, Maki and Sushi, we also did an impromptu sake tasting (a selection of cold and hot sake each paired with a bite sized creation by the chef. The food was delicious, a real treat and the staff was fun. Two other couples finally came into the restaurant around 8:30-9:00 but that was it. I would eat here again anytime.

Excellent food and terrific service for a reasonable price. Went for lunch and was surprised. Only issue was it took a while to get our bill, but that was a minor annoyance.

Sushi lovers alert: This is a Japango spin out with the best sushi chef from the original, run not walk here!!

Fantastic New Restaurant. What a pleasant surprize to discover such an exceptional new Japanese restaurant, in a city full of so many choices. Yuzu has it all - delicious dishes for the most delicate palletes; service that makes you feel like royalty; and an ambiance that heightens the whole dining experience! We will definitely return.
New City Food
Wonderful sushi restaurant located in the heart of the Entertainment District. It is very hard to find really good sushi in Toronto, but this place I will give 4 stars. The seating is minimal and the atmosphere is fairly casual, but the service is top-notch. They have a wonderful cocktail menu and all of their fruity drinks are infused with Sake. I ordered the yo-ki-hi, which is a frozen martini that is sweet and refreshing; containing lychee and pomegranate with a splash of sake. Their sake list is great but unfortunately they were out of a lot of the choices. We tried the uni for an appetizer which was fresh from British Columbia – seriously amazing. The main sushi/sashimi plates run from $20 – $35, the fish is of very high quality, fresh and worth every penny. I recommend this place for a good sushi fix! They also has another location called Japango but it is much smaller, I also find that the quality is better at this location.(Yuzu)

柚の花 (Yuzu no Hana) located in the financial district in Toronto has been one of the up and coming Japanese sushi bars getting a lot of raves. It has been on my hit list for a while now. First impression is that there were a lot of people here. It was around 9:40pm when we arrived, and this place was packed. We waited 20mins for our table and was finally seated. We chose to sit at the sushi bar so we can watch the chefs make our food and see all the dishes that pass through. We studied the menu for a while, decided to get the omakase for $80 to share. When we ordered the waiter told us that omakase requires reservation 1 day in advance. It was noted on the menu, but we tried anyways. So we were back to the drawing board as to what we should order. We wanted to try something different, and something new. Japanese lesson on the side: Omakase (お任せ) means “I’ll leave it to you” in Japanese. In the case of ordering at a restaurant, it means I will leave

Decor was sophisticated with dark woods, pendent lights and recessed wall displays of sake. Yuzu occupies the second and third floor of a building with the main dining area on the second and rooms for private events on the third. After showing us to our seat, our server was friendly and gave us ample time to peruse the menu. We were asked about drink refills before reaching the last sip and our water glasses was consistently attended to. Our dishes arrived quickly with beautiful presentation.
Gastro World
The first course was an shooter made with a raw oyster and quail egg, flavoured with ponzu (a citrusy vinaigrette) and garnished with uni (sea urchin), tobiko (fish roe) and green onions. Downing it in one shot, the oyster was a tad briny for my taste. But when the tastes from the other ingredients, most notably the green onion, kicked in it really wa

Yuzu exemplifies all of the qualities that I look for in a great Japanese restaurant; high quality food, the freshness of the fish, creativity in the dishes and knowledgeable and friendly staff.

I can’t comment on the actual rolls (other reviews have and loved them), but if the chefs apply the same care as they did with my dishes, I’d absolutely recommend Yuzu as an excellent choice for Japanese downtown. Read full review...

Overall I would definitely recommend this place. I would say this was one of the best sushi I've ever had. The stuff is fresh and taste original unlike the usual "canned food" taste from other restaurants. Their menu is very traditional, you won't find any special rolls here but its a taste you won't get anywhere else.

We appreciate the attention to detail the chef have placed into making the dishes. Any sushi-lover would know that the california roll is the most typical sushi to be served. Simply slicing the cucumbers shows how something so little can have a big impact.

Stop whatever else you're doing and read this: I may have just found the best Japanese restaurant in Toronto. It's called YUZU. This sushi and sake bar embodies the very essence of what makes Japanese food, and I mean, real Japanese food, able to stand in its own category of culinary glory. Let's begin with the décor. The calm and serene yet perfectly sophisticated restaurant setting provides a great backdrop for a wonderful evening. On this occasion, I was catching up with my friends Kristina and Alisha, visiting from Ottawa for the weekend. We found refuge from the wind chill and settled comfortably into the Zen space with a cup of warm green tea and right away I noticed how well constructed every piece of stoneware was. My mom, who loves Japanese stoneware with a passion, would be happy to know. It also happened to be that we were sitting beside two very lovely elderly Japanese women…there is nothing that can serve as higher approval for the quality of a restaurant than lovely e

Overall, the experience at Yuzu was excellent! I would definitely return! Either for omakase (probably around $70 for 6 or 7 course meal) or the normal menu (other appetizers seemed really attractive as well). Highly recommended! Oh and keep in mind the parking, it was quite difficult for us to park somewhere close by.

Yuzu No Hana could be a little tricky to find, since the store front sign isn't that big- but just look for the red sandwich board sign! I walked in as soon as they opened for dinner service and found the restaurant to be quite spacious with lots of tables as well as bar seating.

Yuzu delivered alright! We had panko crumbed oysters to start, followed by two deluxe sushi platters. The fish was so fresh and delicious. To top it off the platters also included prawns and scallops

Daily selection of fresh fish. My Sashimi favorites: B.C. tuna, Ocean trout, Blue fin tuna, butterfish and the best sea urchin in town.

Recently, Sushi & Sake bar is sprouting everywhere hitting Toronto food industry like a storm. It is odd that Toronto is quite behind on this type of food trend. Guu from Vancouver opened its first store in Toronto and rapidly become the talk of the town. Whereas, lounge style Japanese dining is now taking off like a hot air balloon. This kind of new contemporary take of Japanese cuisine has to come from the traditional Kaiseiki Ryori, where the quality preparation (slow food) and display artistically is focused. The new fusion style is a simpler take of such interpretation. Enough talk, let's dive in. seaweed salad /w sesame vinegar dressing A great opener for the meal. The seaweed is prepped nicely, which gives of the right tenderness and crunchiness. In combination of the vinaigrette and light sesame aroma, this wakame salad really grows on you and ready you for the meal. I enjoyed everything from the cocktails, oyster shooters, to the sashimi and hot dishes, and finally dessert. Everything was phenomenal.

The maki (aka sushi) comes with flames bursting off the side of the plate, serving as the searing avenue for the dish. The server waits until the flames have ceased and then proceeds to explain what the dish is about. Simply, a delicious concoction of shrimp tempura, spicy scallop, avocado and tobiko. The scallop is atop the maki which upon biting onto it, gives away the soft and buttery flavour of the scallop, then hits you with the spiciness and before it gets too spicy the rice and tempura from inside the maki come to calm it all away. What an unforgettable experience.

I rarely eat sushi downtown, so it took a long time for me to finally end up at Yuzu, a highly acclaimed spot on Richmond Street. On the whole, I thought everything that I tried was excellent here, and I particularly liked the YUZU maki.

...craving sushi one night, I finally made my way there and found fresh fish and a really tasty chawanmushi.

I think Yuzunohana has the freshest sashimi I've had in Toronto. Great service. The fresh wasabi was a nice touch as well.
I recommend ordering the chef's special, especially if you're interested in trying sea urchin.

YUZU-NO-HANA Sushi and Sake Bar is a mid-sized Japanese restaurant located within the clubbing district in downtown Toronto. The restaurant provides a clean and contemporary atmosphere with decorative sake bottles stacked behind the sushi counter. There are also seating all throughout the restaurant, and enough spaces in between tables for those who want to enjoy an intimate dinner. I made reservations about three days prior to the dinner on a Saturday as we wanted the omakase (which required a 24 hours notice). The omakase at Yuzu is $80.00 per person for a 9 course meal, and it is basically a selection of dishes made by the head chef. Yuzu exemplifies all of the qualities that I look for in a great Japanese restaurant; high quality food, the freshness of the fish, creativity in the dishes and knowledgeable and friendly staff. What makes a great restaurant is not only the delicious food, but also the service and hospitality of the staff. I believe that great services enhance customers' experiences, and it is something that I take into consideration when deciding on tipping amounts (15% being the standard for me and it goes up from there), whether to return or not, and also recommending to friends and readers. With that being said, I thought that the service was excellent at Yuzu Sushi & Sake Bar, as our main server and waitresses were very efficient, professional, and friendly. We had the most interactions with the main server, Kaz, as he was the one who brought out our dinner (omakase and bento box). Kaz was friendly, personable, and was knowledgeable about the omakase dishes and fish. As an appetizer, I ordered the calamari ($12.00) which was grilled squid with herbs, marinated in shoyu, and salada greens. The salad that accompanied the squid was crisp and refreshing. The citrus dressing provided a very tangy taste, which I enjoyed. For my main course, I decided upon the Yuzu Bento ($30.00) which was a two layer bento box that came with beef teriyaki, rice, miso soup, sashimi, sushi, tempura, and some veggies as side dishes. The beef teriyaki was really delicious as it was very moist and tender. The 1st course: Oyster shooter (fresh oyster, quail egg, tobiko, yuzu ponzu, uni and green onion). The shooter came out in a decorative long-tubed glass and who knew that raw oyster and quail egg would actually taste good ... I sure didn't. The 2nd Course: Edamame (paste). Unfortunately, I passed upon this dish so I don't know how this tastes like at all. I did try the edible flower though. The 3rd Course: Assorted appetizers platter. I was impressed with both the freshness of the fish and also its presentation. The 4th Course: Assorted sashimi (chef's selection). The three pieces of sashimi were fresh and the rice had the right amount of seasoning without being overly overwhelming. The 5th Course: Sweet fish (ayu) with miso paste. The fish was grilled and the sauce was made using ginger stock. The name is quite deceiving as the fish was not sweet at all; instead it was extremely salty. According to the chef, salt is needed to marinate the sweet fish so that it won't burn. The 6th Course: Grilled duck. I really liked the duck as it was flavorful and tender. The presentation of the dish was also aesthetically pleasing. The only complaint that I really have of this dish would be the small portion as there were only three slices of duck. The 7th Course: Assorted sushi (chef's selection). The overall quality of the fish was excellent and the chefs did a great job with the nice smooth cuts. The 8th Course: Cold sōmen (white Japanese noodles) wrapped around a thin egg wrapper with shiitake mushrooms and shrimp. The combination of the noodle and egg wrapper provided an unique taste. However, this was probably my least favorite dish of the night as I have never been particularly fond of cold noodles. The 9th Course: Yuzu crème brûlée. I was hoping to try their green tea flavored one and was a little disappointed when Kaz told me that they don't make it anymore. However, they are now serving a traditional flavored vanilla version, so I ordered it since I absolutely love crème brûlée. The caramelized top was good, the fresh fruits were sweet, but I thought the custard base lacked a little sweetness. Overall, I highly recommend Yuzu Sushi & Sake Bar for its offering of beautifully presented authentic Japanese food, and great service. Additionally, the chefs (in the kitchen and sushi) all use high quality ingredients to ensure an unique and tasty experience, especially with their omakase.

One of the better Sushi restaurants in the city, this little gem doesn't look much from the street but is quite remarkable inside. I was quite impressed with the quality and exquisite presentation. Everything was carefully executed. The tuna avocado tartare is an absolute must. A deluxe sashimi is also in order. And for rolls, the yellowtail with green onion, the caterpillar and the Yuzu roll. Wonderful service, wonderful experience!

Hidden Japanese restaurant, it is kind of a romantic place! Intimate lighting and great service. You can not leave the place without trying the tuna avocet tartare, it is to die for! The YUZU maki is also a must. We also enjoyed the sashimi combo, it was really good. They only work with very fresh fish. It won’t be my last time, definitely going back to Yuzu!
