My boyfriend & I were quite excited to try the coffee here since we heard so much about it from friends. We decided to keep it simple and stick to the roasted blends. I got the amber roast and he got the winter roast. The coffees tasted a little on the watery side and were not as satisfying as we expected. The woman at the register was not very welcoming, however, the other girl working there was very nice. My boyfriend accidentally spilt his coffee and she quickly came to help clean the mess and even topped off his coffee free of charge. Unsure if I would return to this particular location again...maybe try the one in the distillery district?
We started our day with breakfast in St. Lawrence Market since we missed it yesterday as it is closed on Monday. A bird’s eye view of the market. A little history of the market. The goodies from the market… cakes and pies. Seasonal fruits. A variety of tomatoes. More cheese stuffed goodies.

I could chill in this cafe all afternoon. The atmosphere is so pleasant and cozy. The staff are friendly and welcoming.
Getting into the spirit of the spring thaw I ordered the Cafe Canadien made with local maple syrup, no sugar needed! The butter tart from Circles and Squares are one of the best I've had!
This is a beautiful place. The ceilings are high and the counter is absolutely gorgeous, as well as the tiled floor. The coffee is okay. Not as great as some of the other places in the city, but better than Starbucks or Tims. I like that they use organic ingredients, and offer almond milk. Purists might disagree, but I love an almond milk latte.
Another Balzac's! Located right by St. Lawrence Market. Delicious Carrot Cake and the iced chai lattes are also very much to my liking. Nice exposed brick wall and patio, but I still find the location not so ideal and space a little tight though. Would be super nice if it was a little bigger.
This place is packed most of the times with people which speaks a lot about the coffee shop. Lot of people love to enjoy the amazing coffee which they provide. The place is located right next to st Lawrence market which is very convenient for shoppers to come here and relax, the staff is very accommodating and the interiors are nice. The only thing i feel which might be a negative would be is that the place is a little cramped.
Yes the latte was very good but the atmosphere and location are what I liked most about this place. You get a great view of the St Lawrence Market and there's a lot of hustle and bustle with it being such a busy area. The cafe interior has this old-world, historic charm to it too.
Given a choice between a big chain versus an independent coffee shop, support local! I had a seasonal "Café Harvest" latte made with a plant based oat milk - otherwise known as a pumpkin spiced latte. Staff were efficient and super friendly. Be sure to enjoy your coffee or tea outside on their lovely patio, sitting underneath the cheery yellow umbrellas.
Pro tip: If you enjoyed your visit, check out their other location with a very distinctive decor, in the Distillery District - about a 15 minute walk away.
Still my favourite cafe / coffee shop from the first time I had them in Stratford ontario!
Had one of their seasonal lattes this time which is the oat milk cookie latte and just as tasty as the other drinks.
Smooth and creamy from the milk and nice espresso taste from the latte!
Balzac’s will always have my heart! Great job on everything always!

I tried their Café Canadien and it was too sweet for my taste. Liked the atmosphere and interior design nonetheless.
Best atmosphere coffee shop.
Almond croissants not as sweet, full of almond, fresh coffee.
Nice coffee shop with a terrace when weather permits. Very good coffee, cake, muffins. Enjoyed the chocolate milk. Very nicely decorated, love the style. Seating facilities are quite extensive. Terrace is opposite the St Lawrence market so a lively street but without too much traffic.
Service was kind and professional.
The location of the cafe is amazing. The vibes are immaculate.
