Review Athens Restaurant - Toronto

Mohammed Syed
Great cosy place in a prime Greek town location, with a family-run restaurant vibe. Very friendly staff and superb food-to-table delivery after we ordered our food. We had a sampler platter, which was very good and consisted of; hummus, cheese and fish roe. The octopus was sublime and hands down the highlight of the evening. We also ordered the moussaka, cod and the love boat (sizzling chicken, cheese and eggplant). I must say not a single food item was left by the end of the evening and every dish we ordered was great! I would recommend for authentic Greek taste and really must compliment the great food, service and ambience they create and manage, good job!

I had heard many great things about Athens pre-pandemic lockdown, unfortunately I didn't make it before everything closed down. I was told that when you go in you have a great selection of daily specials that change each day. I was disappointed that I didn't make it but when I found them on Uber Eats or Skip The Dishes (hard to remember which one) I had to order. We ordered the souvlaki family meal deal and the price was fair. Both the chicken and pork were well cooked and tasted great. The rice was well seasoned and I could have eaten double. I wasn't the biggest fan of the potatoes but I rarely am unless they're fried. My one complaint is the food wasn't as hot as I'd like but that's because it was a long drive to get to us. I recommend going on because it's a 100 times better. I finally got to go and sit down for a nice meal and wow! It's a small family run restaurant and it really shows when you're interacting with the staff. Everyone was friendly and the owner really seems like he wants to get to know you (I'm assuming he was the owner). When sitting in we ordered everything from the daily special menu and it was all great. Every dish was authentic Greek. The stuffed peppers were some of the best I've tried. The moussaka was as good as mom's (how she never read this), I wanted seconds but I was getting stuffed. My favorite was the filo wrapped lamb, which is difficult and time consuming to make. The lamb was juicy and tender, the vegetables were fresh, the cheese perfectly melted and the filo was flaky. When you go to Athens skip the same old souvlaki and eat the real home made Greek food. Check out the specials menu. You will not be disappointed. I'm going back until I've tried everything on their menu.

Fantastic Greek restaurant ! Was highly recommend this place by friends ! Great atmosphere! Very friendly staff & excellent customer service. We tried the appetizers Calamari, grilled octopus, pita bread with assorted sauces (spicy cheese, eggplant hummus, tzatziki) & chicken soup w fresh lemon and the Flaming Cheese (Saganaki). Their souvlaki meats were juicy and very tender. Food was excellent! Will definitely visit again & recommend to family & friends!

I tried Athen's for the first time a few weeks ago and I really enjoyed it. - Good portion - Slightly on the expensive side - Protein was tender, juicy and well seasoned - Rice was good perfectly and well seasoned - Potatoes were cooked perfectly the first time I ordered and the second time it was slightly undercooked - Could use more tzatziki sauce for the portion of food

Uber Eats Review: We decided to give the delivery service a try one night and the food was really good. Don’t get me wrong, if you have a chance to go eat it fresh in the restaurant do that instead as it’s probably much better but we still had no complaints at home. The Family meal was a pretty good deal overall. The Souvlaki and Salad were really good and the rice and roast potatoes were awesome. Looking forward to going there to dine in one day as I’m sure fresh and hot to table can’t be beat 👌🏼

Awesome Greek restaurant, highly recommend this place! The eggplant spread was incredible, the pita bread was excellent, the souvlaki meats were juicy and very tender, and the Greek salad was perfect. Walnut cake was also lovely (very sweet!). As good as actually being in Athens!

I came for lunch here yesterday, and it was amazing! Shortly after arriving, were invited into the back to meet the chef and see the day’s specials. I loved this. I had roast lamb with okra, and my friend had lamb with artichoke. Both dishes tasted delicious! Thank you for being so welcoming! It was our first time, but we were made to feel like family! We look forward to coming back soon! Xoxo

Truly authentic Greek food

Been to this establishment many times over the years with family and friends. It is truly a very authentic Greek restaurant with many authentic Greek dishes. The portions are plentiful and well priced. The staff and owner are very friendly and helpful. You can visit the kitchen and make your own selection from a variety of dishes.
Highly recommend you visit this place and enjoy a great great meal with friends and family.
May want to make reservation as it get very busy in the evenings.

This is the first restaurant where I was invited into the kitchen to see the daily specials not part of the regular menu. It’s a trademark of this restaurant and it gave me the confidence that it was a clean place. The specials looked good, but me and my dining partner wanted a simpler meal of shareable dishes:

- baba ganoush (with pita) which was the best I’ve ever had
- assorted olives
- traditional salad (tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, kalamata olives and feta) and I was so happy to see two big and thick slabs of feta (unlike other places that only give you a few crumbles)
- potatoes (side dish)
- a skewer of chicken and one of pork (both with big hunks of meat that were juicy and flavourful)

All was good! The only thing that could improve our experience was the service at the start and end. It took longer than expected to receive menus and request drinks, and the same with waiting for our bill and paying. Very relaxed attitude, but other than that I would go again.
Amazing Greek food . Authentic and delicious. Hidden gem by far. As per restaurant etiquette we went to the kitchen to see the fresh daily food that's off menu. Gyro , stuffed peppers, lamb chops and octopus were out of this world
You Gonna Eat That?
Went with a friend who is a friend of a friend of the owner. Get that?
Anyhow, sat down, met the owner and was directed to the kitchen to see what the specials are. No menu. -Not certain if that is commonplace for here or it was preferred treatment due to knowing a guy that knows a guy etc...
Cheese stuffed peppers were good. The hot peppers weren't hot (spicy). Meatballs were pretty good, but I didn't care for the orzo, nor the powdered cheese(?) on it that had a strong unpleasant odour. Didn't transfer to the taste.
Their olive oil -on the table- is of good quality.
Greek coffee was tasty, although I got a mouthful of grounds near the bottom. Not a big deal, it happens. Overall good experience would return.

Authentic Greek food with hospitable service.

This restaurant feels like you have a wonderful relative who is an amazing cook preparing a meal for you. My fellow diner was born in Greece and the meal reminded him of dinner back home, down to the decor and the portions.

We had a village Greek salad, village lamb stew, pork souvlaki (best deal ever), home cut fries and tzaziki. Wow. Tomatoes were so fresh, lamb was melt in your mouth, pork was charred to perfection, fries were crispy, and the TZAZIKI!!! I've had my share of tzaziki and this one was made with creamy yoghurt and a combination of garlic and cucumber that leaves your taste buds tingling.

I'm really glad I had the chance to experience this restaurant.

I'm very surprised at how INACCURATE the ratings are for this place! If Zomato had negative ratings I would give this place NEGATIVE FIVE. This was a FIRST and LAST experience. It all started the moment my boyfriend and I walked in. No eye contact or greeting. After 5 mins, we were told to sit down at an unsetted table. While expecting our menus to arrive shortly, the waiter brought cutlery, oil and vinegar, though he seemed clumsy, inexperience and unenthusiastic. It couldn't be any longer than 30 minutes until we had asked for water and menus.
The waiter dropped off our menus and left us confused and worried. Thank God for google for translating Greek. We were told to head back to see the cook to ask him what's on the menu. It was like going to the food court and having to pick out combination 1 or 2. We got veal/lamb meat balls(wasn't on the menu) and grilled calamari and they didn't bother asking us what sides. The food didn't make up for the LACK of CUSTOMER SERVICE, it was cold and and unappealing. A salad which was part of the dinner came about 20 mins after, having thought "we didn't order this". We got the rest to go and couldn't wait to RUN of there! I swore they gave our salad away to a family that just sat down, what do you know...the salad isn't in the bag. THANK YOU AND GOOD BYE.
This place is the single place I've found authentic delicious Greek food aside from my mother's cooking. It's inexpensive too and cooked fresh daily. You go back in the kitchen, see the daily specials and get an explanation of what the dishes are. I gave it 5stars. Don't go there for the decor and it looks a bit grungy but the foid is worth it!

So Amazing. Found this restaurant on line. When we walked in we were greeted warmly and seated. We were taken to the kitchen. They show you the dishes as prepared. There was veal in a lemon oregano sauce and lamb in a tomato sauce. We ordered both dishes to share. The meals were fantastic. It was so hard to stop eating. We were stuffed. The service was amazing. Warm and friendly and so helpful with our wine selection. The wine was also incredible. Could not have asked for a better experience. Also very reasonably priced. Go and enjoy.

Fantastic "homestyle" greek cooking, not the fake mr greek style food here. Not alot of room in the place but room does not matter if the food is good :) the service was amazing and they even showed us the kitchen before seating us.

Best Greek food in town!! Awesome. U wont be disappointment;)
Yum
Food was delicious and the portions were huge! Quite disappointed with the service despite being the only ones seated at a table. The regulars at the bar seemed to get all the attention.
