Review Sanremo Bakery And Cafe - Toronto

If you know, you know...one of the best and long time standing shops in Toronto. They've done their best through covid measures and the community. Spot for meat, cheese, pastries, bread, fresh sandwiches, donuts, cakes and more. Coffee is quite yummy but expect line up during peak google times. Totally worth it!

This place is just heavenly! No wonder why people actually go to this place every single day and its the store is always packed! Lots of variety to choose from from dessert to pasties to main food its all there! Highly recommended to try! You wont regret the wait!

Sanremo bakery is the place to be, it’s a very nice place, it feels like you are in Italy in there, you can find every Italian product, fresh deli and let’s not talk about the pastries, yes the pastries in there are really really good, presentation is amazing and the taste is really original. Best days to go it’s on a Sunday morning where everything is there waiting for you to be devoured it.

Purchased some donuts there for the first time because I've heard good things. Unfortunately, one of the donuts (the whipped cream filled) was still very raw on the inside as pictured below. Would highly recommend breaking your donuts in half before consuming to make sure they're cooked through.

Great overall bakery experience! Like what Loblaws tries to imitate but can't duplicate. Lots of delicious selection. Bright, clean interior. Friendly staff. Definitely worth waiting in line to get in. Get there early for better selection.

It's always good. I tried a hot sandwich this time and some pastries. I do prefer the giant cold sandwich that they heat up. But it's one of the best place in south Etobicoke.

I came across Sanremo bakery about a year ago and I had to go check it out! Their bakery items and sandwiches are amazing! I also tried out their chai latte and mocha .. delish! But not just that, Sanremo has become a Sunday ritual + a part of every occasion in my house ! They customized a cake for my husband’s birthday and it was lip smacking!

Well this Bakery was a good Bakery but did not wow me in any way it's nice how they have different counters for different departments and each have there own space, it's half a star for the atmosphere a star for fresh products and a star for service and half a star for the sweets we bought. When it comes to service it's not the greatest nor is it the most helpful I tried to get one employee's attention and she completely ignored me and just kept doing what she was doing but did not ignore her co-worker and stopped to talk regardless if it's your department or not when a customer that is there for the first time and is asking for some assistance your job is to help or get someone that can help and I did not get that, And also if you are famous for your donuts try not to be sold out of them so early, we did try some other pastrys and the were ok, their creama cold coffee like drink was good but a bit too sweet and we also tried the cold coffee brew might have been good if we had some sugar added to it cause don't get it regular it tastes no good but bitter, They are what we feel a bit over priced on everything, would I come back here not really cause it's way out of my way and not worth the drive but you can come here for other products but remember it's a bit pricy, they are clean and organized.

The local Etobicoke favourite offered a vast variety of nourishment, spanning the categories of sweet, savoury, caffeinated, and pre-packaged. Sandwiches and Café Frappé were items of lesser interest to us; on the radar from the getgo was the bakery range - namely the croissants, loaves, and pastries. Portuguese egg tarts had failed to be detected amongst the spread, so we turned to the refrigerated display case instead. Resulting from our unhurried analysis were a strawberry jam-filled croissant and Tiramisu cup.

Everything about this bakery is great. I just feel that because of being a really popular bakery in Toronto, this place is always full with people and because of that sometimes it gets really confusing while placing an order or paying for it.
Mark
If this place didn’t have good donuts, I wouldn’t come back. Donuts are great but everything else is overpriced and disorganized. Their hot table is decent, home cooked foods. Generally, Italian desserts and bread is not good to begin with, id go to a French bakery for those. The coffee service is confusing as hell. Try coming on a weekend and forget it! It’s not worth the hassle.

Great food! Tried the Pizza and a few of their donuts. So delicious. Will defiantly be back for more. Prices are affordable. Great for catering as well.
Mike
The best bakery ever! When I visit this bakery , I feel like I’m in Europe and all employees are so kind and nice!!! Just as it should be. All product are fresh and tasty

Remarkable selection, incredible quality. Turkey sandwich is simply perfect - a pound of meat sandwiched with crispy onions and the best foccacia that I've ever had. The roast beef is set up just as brilliantly. And the price! More than affordable for the amount of food you get. Only downside is the curt service, but they are efficient for a really busy business.

Great place in the west end of Toronto to get good doughnuts! They always have an amazing variety of normal to unique flavours. I always look forward to trying a new flavour when I'm there.

Amazing Gelato.
Only thing is the confusing and overhelming interior setup of the store.
...................................

Best gourmet donuts!! They are definitely a must try!! Also their bread and pastries are really good too. Come to think of it, everything they make is amazing!
JRS
Outstanding gourmet donuts at a reasonable price. Lots of fun flavours. Especially loved the maple bacon! Among the best in Toronto, and certainly the best value. It's a hidden gem, even though it is a busy place.

When I want to bring a spectacular dessert to a dinner party, I head to a very special Italian bakery in south Etobicoke. San Remo is one of my favourite bakeries and cafes in the city.

I was so excited to get into this place. When I walked in, it reminded me of the Italian delis I have back home, but on a much grander scale. I was in love at first sight.

The staff was super nice, friendly and allowed me to make my own decisions based on their input instead of feeling pressured to make a decision. They even gave my metropass back to me when I accidentally forgot it at the counter. To my surprise, they didn't have any donuts, so I settled on a brownie.

The brownie had so many little surprises in it that tempted my tongue and made me want more and more of it. That is the best way I can describe it because it blew my mind away. Everyone should try this place just for the desserts, just cause they seem like they're made with love and care
VvnFewdie
Oh my gosh the pastries here are delicious. The croissants are super flaky but should be consumed as soon as possible because they lose their texture quickly. Great donuts and well-priced tiramisu. Try the lemon donut if you're into lemon pastries or the black forest donut if you prefer cherry filling.
Mark
The food is great but you have to put up with the attitude of the staff and the slow service.
Lots of staff hanging around but seem to be very disorganized

I was so excited to come here and I have never seen a bakery so busy! Mind you it was a Saturday afternoon. I was really looking forward to trying their donuts but there were NONE left! You have to be there first thing or order them at least 24 Hours in advance. Crazy, I decided to try a couple desserts. I got an almond cookie, tiramisu cup and a pistachio cannoli and a hazelnut cannoli. Also grabbed a latte on the way out. The almond cookie was fantastic, the tiramisu was amazing as well but a bit too much whipped cream on top for my liking, and the cannolis were the best I've had. Fresh, soft and delicious!! The coffee was really great too :) no complaints, I literally wanted to try everything.

They have tons to offer not just desserts. They have food you can order there with plenty of seats, fresh bread and deli. Dessert selection is fantastic with tons of cakes to choose from! It was crazy the amount of people that were inside and although it was busy service was really quick, efficient and friendly. Definitely worth checking out.

JUST CAME HERE and it was overwhelming! in a good way! The dessert selection is HUGE and unique... There were these chocolate nutella croissants I just had to have but I ended up getting a chocolate cup cake... It was the best cupcake ever! So fresh and just delicious... Then I went to the hot foods section... Their sandwiches are so authentically Italian it's crazy! They are huge!!!! and for 5.00 packed with so much stuff you can't go wrong.. The place was packed with people eating in a cafeteria kind of area... and it was very busy but service was fast and efficient nonetheless... I just wanted to try everything- maybe next time... The veggie sandwich I had was SO awesome... seems clean and honestly worth a visit! p.s. went back for another sandwich and again it was incredible, however out of indecisiveness I also got a cheese bagel with Bononcini, tomatoes and lettuce inside but it was rather disappointing. The lady did offer to heat it up and said that it tastes better that way but I don't like warm tomatoes so I said no. It tasted kind of plain and just, gross compared to the perfection that is the veggie sandwich. The day I went there were barely any veggie options in the hot dishes but there were salads and quinoa which is healthy. My coworker had the veal and loved it- I also snuck some mushrooms from her and they were alright with the sauce. New favorite Italian bakery! will return.

This neighbourhood institution has it all: great hot food (try the porchetta sandwich); a coffee station that offers terrific cappuccinos and an assortment of gelato; and a bakery with a range of quality italian pastries (ridiculous cannoli) and decadent donuts (best damn apple fritters in the city). Go.
Mel
Best Pizza. Sanremo is definitely my favourite bakery in the city. Aside from the large bread selection of bread I can always count on them having freshly made cheesy pizza.

Omg.

I just returned from a trip to Italy and am horribly missing quality Italian food. This absolutely satisfied my craving.

My friend and I split a meatball sandwich and the vegetable sandwich. First, they're HUGE! I couldn't believe how big they were and how reasonably priced! The meatball sandwich was nearly perfect. Nice soft meatballs, tasty sauce, and the bread was to die for. The vegetable sandwich however was one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten in my life. Artichokes, eggplant, zucchini, tomatoes, lettuce, a fantastic dressing... It was heavenly. I can't stop thinking about it. I almost went back for dinner.

Moving on to the cannolo. If you follow my reviews, you'll see I consider myself a bit of a cannoli expert. The Sicilian cannoli was, hands-down, the best cannoli I've had in Toronto. The ricotta filling was scented with a touch of lemon, and the shell was perfectly crunchy with a little give, and a perfect amount of cinnamon.

SanRemo isn't necessarily close to my house, but I can tell you this much... I'll be finding myself in this area more often for sure.

Satisfy your cravings. Sanremo is the best spot to satisfy any cravings that you may have! From the tasteful pizza to the fluffy donuts, you have your taste buds screaming for more! If you are expecting... I recommend you try this hot spot out! Prices are affordable and the company is great

Words Cannot Describe How Amazing This Bakery Is. I went in to San Remo today to get some desserts for a dinner party I was going to. The plan was to get just a couple desserts but I ended up walking out with 1 cake, 1 tarte, 2 dozen Italian pastries and things for myself. I was not going to tell the hosts all I had gotten but, wow, everything looked and smelled so good that I needed to try it right away. My mouth was watering the whole car ride. That was on Saturday and on Sunday I went back again. This time I got an extremely amazing meatball sandwich and pasta. To top that off, which is a lunch special, a great cappuccino! WOW WHAT A DEAL!! That made my Sunday. Later, I went and got a canoli. I loved it. Can't wait to go back again!

A-Freakin-Mazing!. Words cannot explain the delight that can be found at this divine, fabulous, wonderland of a bakery. It offers something for everyone! Prices, amazing! Food, amazing! Staff, amazing!! I highly recommend you tell everyone you know and their grandmothers about this place!

Amazing!. SanRemo Bakery is by far one of the best bakeries in Toronto! It does not only offer a selection of delicious desserts, but a variety of different freshly prepared meals as well! If anyone wants freshly baked loaves of bread, whether it is multigrain, sour dough, Italian style or a french vienna, this is the place to go since they are all baked every morning of every single day! Lastly, we all know summertime is never complete without a cone of ice cream, this is also one of the best places to stop by and treat yourself with some of SanRemo's homemade gelato!
Saved1356
Absolutely Amazing. I absolutely love Sanremo, they offer a great variety of different foods and sweets, and the service was incredible. I would have to say my favourite sweet is the macaroons. All the flavours are amazing but I'd have to say vanilla bean is my favourite.

DANGER MAY CAUSE WEIGHT GAIN!!. I'm more of a dessert lover and this is definitely the place to go!!
List of fantastic pastries (because I have probably tried them all):
1. Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse
2. Carrot Cake
3. Chocolate Hazelnut Cannoli
4. Any cheesecake slice (Raspberry, Blueberry, Peach Coconut, Chocolate, Lemon -- Top 5)
5. Baby Chocolate Truffle (Do not let this gluten free option throw you off, it is to die for!)

Another one of my favourites would be any and every single donut....

Definitely going to put on a few pounds, totally worth it!!

Love San Remo Bakery. Everyone's taste buds satisfied in one bakery! Had a large salad with grilled chicken on top just so i could indulge on a maaaaassive cheesecake slice right after with a nice cup of coffee! Def would recommend this place to everyone I know!

Yum !. BEST bread all over Toronto but not the best dessert .

The best. My husband and I go there every week. We love the food there. The staff is very friendly and the owner is ready to help if you need it. No mater where we live we will always come back

Great place for lunch. Had the veggie panini, great sandwich but clearly half is big enough for lunch. We took the Creme Brûlée to friends house for dinner. Very good.

Sanremo is the best!. The place is just amazing. I'm pretty new to all these different types of cheeses and deli meats, but the staff is so helpful, and they really know a lot. The staff is seriously among the best, and someone is always doing something. They're so busy yet they manage to be so pleasant. I just moved so close to Sanremo so I'll definitely be a regular there. There isn't really anything that I wouldn't buy from there, their bread is amazing, their cheese and meat is so good, and their baked goods are really delicious. It's my first choice of all the places in Toronto to buy food. I have a lot to learn, and I know I'm learning so much there. I'm just thinking about going there right now lol.

Yesterday I made a cheese platter, and asked the girl at the deli counter what cheese would go with wine, and what meat would go with the cheese, and she was soooo helpful and polite. I couldn't ask for a better experience. I got my cheese (provolone and gouda) and I got my meat (prosciutto and salami), bought some fresh bread, and olives and made the most amazing platter. It was all the ingredients that did the work, my girlfriend loved it, and I am so thankful for this place.

Love this place. This bakery is awesome! Been going to Sanremo since I was a kid. Love their cakes, pasteries and the food is great! Give it a try cuz I guarantee you will love the place 0:)
Paul
Mmmmm. This bakery is damn good!
And much more than just fresh bread and muffins. This place is very big with tons of food to choose from delicious deserts to sandwiches to pizza and cold cuts, I could keep going. We went on a Sunday and it was rammed so it's no secret among the locals how good it is.
If you haven't been you should definitely check it out.

Two thumbs up. I love sanremo bakery! their coffee is to die for and so are their pastries. the people that work there are so sweet and welcoming. love having such a great bakery in my neighborhood:)

I cannot think of anything bad to say about this place. When my grandparents were alive they lived within walking distance. I use to go there every Saturday with them and since neither one of them spoke a word of English their staff was good at trying to communicate with them and to serve them. One of the staff members in particular always made sure to save their favourite loaf of bread every time. I would recommend the place and can't wait to go there again.

The absolute best food in Etobicoke. I have lunch there daily. The food is absolutely fantastic.
Always take it to go because it's too busy to eat-in.(Nice problem for them to have)
Mondays really suck, since they are closed..........
Best honey glazed twist donuts anywhere!!
Isabella
My home away from home. I have to say I was quite shocked when I saw the past two negative reviews. I just moved into the Etobicoke area a year ago, and Sanremo welcomed me in with open arms. The three brothers that own the place are always great to talk to, and they really care about the customers. I'm sure the lady who is claiming that Sanremo prefers men to women surely did not stay in the store long enough to get a sense of what the bakery is really about. I've always gone in with dinner party ideas and the staff has been great at recommending what cheeses to serve or what dessert would go best.
I also know that many small businesses deal with Sanremo so they give discounts to those business owners...and many of these owners are female. The lady with such a negative review must have been having a bad day.
Sanremo keeps getting better and better! They just introduced a new salad menu, keeping my trips healthy! This is a great establishment.

Good bakery but.... While I think they have great food and good pastries/coffee....PREPARE to WAIT IN LINE MULTIPLE TIMES before receiving your food. The store has three different areas for food- coffee counter, hot food counter and dessert counter. You wait in line to order what you want separately at each counter where they each give you a order ticket and then go to a cashier counter to pay and then go back to the respective food counters with your receipt to wait in line again to pick up your food. This leaves the potential of waiting in line 7 times just to get a cookie, coffee and slice! Ugh!!! Oh did I mention that they don't let you serve your own milk for your coffee. I found this out the hard way and had to wait in line for the 8th time to get some half and half for my coffee.
Jimbo Jones
Outstanding. Great staff, great food and a nice cafe/bakery feel to it. Mimico's finest.
Mark Williams
I love this bakery!. I have only been here a couple of times, ordering some baked goods and coffee. Have always been satisfied with the cornnolios (if thats what they are called) and the lattes in the coffee shop. The set up is a bit weird, you have to pay first before getting the coffee then pay again when you buy anything else. Its a bit intimidating cause you dont really know where to go to get something, or where to line up... Nonetheless this is one of the best bakeries in town!
Sharon
Although the renos look good, I sense that some of their baked goods are not made in house. That being said, the almond crescent cookies are so tasty. If you like thick, chewy crust pizza, this is the place!
Hungryman416
Great bakery and fresh food. This place has been around 50+ yrs. Kinda reminds me of the show cake boss. Everything from pastries to hot food and everything in between is great and done right.

Saturday Lunch. I can see how they have been in business for so long. I had the "lunch special"; veal, grilled veggies & greek salad, while my inacee had some pizza. We followed this up with a box of goodies to take home along with an olive-loaf. The service was great, food was delicious and prices were fair. Only gripe was that it was really busy and I could see seating being an issue if you showed up at a peak time...but that is a good problem to have.
Gary
Good food but soso experience. I came here because they were raving about the veal sandwich here on another forum. But I went early in the day, they had no sandwiches. All they had for hot food was pizza. I thought this was unacceptable.

The girls serving cakes are nice there, but when I went to pay, the older lady (owner?) acted like a bitch. I didn't have change, and she said "next time, OK?" over a couple cents.
They only accept cash there.
Gastro Chick
Wonderful gem. This place is great. They recently renovated to accommodate even more seating. The service is helpful, the food is wonderful. Try their sandwiches - wow.... Their breakfast egg sandwich is also fantastic. Actually I haven't found anything bad about this place yet. It is a neighborhood treasure.
Mr Tee
Best Bakery in the West End...possibly Toronto. Let me preface by saying that I go here all the time. Why? Let me count the ways...

Vegetable stuffed baguettes...try the red pepper or eggplant.
Pastries are phenomenal...you really can't go wrong.
A lot of people like the veal...but personally I can't avoid ....
THE PIZZA... there are literally 15 different types for sale everyday. No pepperoni, all sorts of varieties...you know it is a legit bakery when they have potato pizza...
Dom
Sanremo bakery is one of the most amazing bakeries in Toronto. The quality of the food there is amazing. From their delicios ice cream to their pizza, this Italian restaurant is wonderful. If anyone happens to visit this bakery I recommend getting some ice cream and a spinach roll. Tjlhey are delicious. But I'm forgeting the most important thing, the cakes! The cakes there are spectacular, unbelievable and amazing! They do make custom cakes. So give them a call or visit!

I got 6 beasty doughnuts for $4.50 this morning. I am in heaven!

Each time a different treat, always such a pleasure to taste a cookie that doesn't taste JUST sweet. There is depth and layers of flavour and nuttiness that beckons you to get some more. Foodie that I am, I had to know where these treats come from and from the first time I walked into this bakery, I have always left pleased and contented. Click to view slideshow. It just seems right that this weekend I met up with a good friend from my former work, Helen, for brunch. Hitting two birds with one stone, I also had to grab a birthday cake for another friend, Monika. The fact that I can do two important things in one go, the day started very well. We walked in at about 10:30am, wanting some brunch and I see there were a bustle of people milling and eating, way ahead of me. Like the earlier times I've been here, I quietly wished again that this b

I accidentally stumbled upon Sanremo Bakery in Mimico Village today. I'd heard of the place, but didn't go out of my way to visit it, as there are many near my home that so very good. (I live in Bloor West Village) With my 3-year old son in tow, I planned to make a quick stop for a coffee and maybe a treat. (Is anything not quick when you have kids with you?)It was just after 9am on a Friday morning. As we walked south along Royal York Road from where I parked my car, there was a nice elderly gentleman who was sitting on the patio enjoying his morning coffee and newspaper. To me, small patios in front of food establishments that are clean and filled with people are always a good sign. (Kind of a Euro-thing I wish Toronto had way more of, I think.) He smiled at my boy and said "Good morning" and then even gave my son a few breadcrumbs to fee the little birds that were on the street. Cute. It was like this man knew it was our first time at SanRemo and he went out of his way to welcome us.When we entered, the first thing that caught my eye was the line for the "Coffee & Gelato." Another good sign. It told me that the coffee was probably good and that folks were willing to wait in a long line to get their morning cup. I also noticed the sparkling and fancy cappuccino maker they had too. The baristas were hard at work. We walked past the cheeses, deli meats, hot table (is 9am too early for a veal sandwich?), and stopped at the fresh bread and buns that were being unloaded from a cart and onto the shelves for picking. What's better than fresh bread? I picked up a few buns and dreamed of the sandwich I was going to make with it at lunchtime. They had a a row of about 6 or 7 racks of fresh pastries: croissants, scones, pies, breads, danishes...this was too much. I wanted one of each. I filled a paper bag of a few samples and headed to the nearby glass case of other goodies...but not before I quickly picked up a package of butter tarts first. (Hey, it's research!)I had to run after my son, who I'd lost to the glass counter with cupcakes, cakes, cookies and doughnuts. I knew I was in trouble. Did they have shopping carts in there? (No) It was then I decided that I'd have to come back when my kids weren't with me. Mama needs more time to really appreciate this store. I got my little guy a sprinkled cupcake and for me, a sugar twist doughnut...but wait, what was that lady bringing out on a tray from the back? Fresh from the oven cinnamon buns. I picked one up for the husband, as he likes them more than I do.Ty and I sat down for our treats. The sugar twist was very good. But let me just take a peek at this cinnamon bun, as I overheard about 5 people ordering them after I bought mine. I looked in the paper bag and took a nice whiff. Hmmm. Not bad. One little nibble couldn't hurt, Jeremy shares everything with me.And that was the end of the cinnamon bun. Sweet Heavens, that was good. Do they fry them or something?????I had come into the bakery for a coffee, a browse-around, and a treat for my son. I came home with a belly full of sweets and a bag full of treats. I plan on going back tomorrow.

They have everything!!! Lot's of sweet options: donuts, cakes, croissants, pies, cupcakes, etc. You can also buy regular loaves of bread and pizza. Between 12pm and 2pm it gets packed!!! The hot table is very popular and the line sometimes goes out the door. What I don't like is that you do not know what is being served until you get to the front of the line and by then you are being rushed to make your order. I hate being rushed and not having the opportunity to at least skim at my options. When at the hot table, try to go with the special. The special is $8.99 with one main (several to choose from), one side (several to choose from), 1 pop/coffee/tea and one dinner roll. I believe 2 sides is $10.99. I got the veal and it was delicious!!! I also got an espresso and it brought me back to Italy. I know, that's cheesy. But it did! I took home half a dozen donuts for $4.50 and several other pastries. Yum!

** A lot of people ordered sandwiches and pizza. I guess they are pretty good if so many regulars bought it.

Love Sanremo Bakery! Located in the great community of Mimico, the bakery has been around for a very long time and has a huge following. Pastries and donuts are to die for and they serve one of the BEST veal sandwiches in the GTA.

Sanremo never fails to make my day better! It has one of the best donuts in town, and I love their sandwiches. I have never dined in, but everytime I have been there it's always been busy, which is an indicator of how good the place is. They have different sections for espresso, hot table, bakery, desserts and seating area. My favorite is the Prosciutto sandwich.
