Carousel Bakery - of the famous peameal bacon roll fame and 30 years+ Market stalwart - continues to please with its great variety of savoury (check out the empanadas!) and sweet treats as pictured. Just a note of caution that Saturdays are tourist bus days...

Lamak bana!
Chances are you won't starve if you're in St Lawrence market because the food selection is amazing. Saturday mornings are the best here. The world famous pea meal bacon sandwich comes from here and is definitely a Toronto must have.
The lines are big but move pretty fast. The sandwich is filling and if you cut in half and share then you're going to be full regardless
This is a must have and every Toronto native will tell you that.
THE place for a peameal bacon sandwich. Sometimes less is more: just a crusty bun and heaping slices of well-cooked peameal bacon. Should be tried at least once as a quintessential TO experience.
I know peameal bacon sandwiches are all the rage in Toronto, but anything with egg and cheese automatically wins for me. All other options become invisible. Lines are long at this place, but they move very quickly as they have several workers behind the counter taking multiple orders. It’s also pretty difficult to find a seat anywhere on a Saturday morning, but the great thing about the sandwich is that you can walk around eating it, all while having hungry onlookers stare at your sandwich like it’s Kate Upton in your hand.
Making a quick stop in Downtown Toronto during our long layover, we got off Union Station from the UP Express Train and then walked over to St. Lawrence Market. Carousel Bakery is known as the home of the award-winning “World Famous Peameal Bacon Sandwich. Last time in Toronto, I wasn’t able to get this. They have been at the market for over 30 years and line ups can always be seen on weekends and the weekday lunch rush.
Slices of grilled peameal bacon slices are put inside a soft country bun. It was so good! The fatty pieces of bacon just melted in our mouth.
On my trip to Toronto last fall, I made pilgrimage to the St. Lawrence Market – birthplace of the famous peameal bacon on a bun. I had read that Carousel Bakery was a go-to-place for the peameal bacon sandwich. So, I ordered from this stall for my first peameal bacon experience.
If you are looking for peameal bacon sandwiches then look no further than Carousel Bakery. They are famous for them and for good reason. My favourite us the breakfast on a bun. Peameal, egg and cheese on a soft fresh bun. Perfect hangover cure!
Small bakery with lots to offer. It is run by a handful of staff to provide fast and friendly customer service. No need to wait in line, there seemed to always be an available person to take your order alongside the bakery. I usually get the pea meal sandwich which is much more meaty compared to the breakfast on a bun (lean pea meal). Overall, delicious!!
Went to St Lawrence on Saturday, Had the pea meal sandwich, really nice also fast service & friendly staff :) will definitely go back.
People love the peameal bacon sandwich, but I can't fathom eating a sandwich with only bacon!! Argh! So I always go for the breakfast sandwich instead: bacon, egg and cheese, and it's cheaper at just under $6! I also get the Portuguese tart for under $1.50. Though now that I think about it, I really don't like how chewy it is. Is it supposed to be that way? I prefer crumbly tarts. :)
By far the best Canadian Pamela sandwich in this world, most likely the entire solar system. This should be on your bucket list if it already isn't.
I had they hyped up Peameal Bacon. It was incredibly hyped up that I was expecting a lot more.
Don't get me wrong, the bacon was delicious with a very tasty crunch and the bread was soft and fresh. There was four thick layers of bacon. I did find it rather dry and the sandwich rather one dimensional. I needed extra flavours and some sort of kick to keep me excited throughout the entire sandwich.
I will try an egg with my Peameal sandwich next time
One of the best places to get sandwiches on St. Lawrence market. Both hot and cold sandwiches are recommended. I liked their chicken parmigiana, BBQ Chicken sandwich and cold chicken or tuna wrap. I have never tried bacon here though this is featured in Bacon. If you are a bacon lover try those too. What goes best with sandwiches? Take their made iced tea (not can one).
Had the full Peameal bacon sandwich for lunch from Carousel. Honestly, it's good but nothing really special in its taste. Price is a little high at $7.30. The great thing about it is its history and hype. A once in a while food.
Delicious. Pea meal bacon sandwiches are to die for. A heaping pile of moist and tender meat between a soft bun. Cannot go wrong. There is a huge variety of sauces/mustard to add.
Recommend!
Loved the peameal bacon :) So savory and tender, not too salty!! Nice to have it with a country bun! Perfect to serve with fried egg
Best Butter Tarts you can get in Toronto! Custard Tarts too! They are sweet enough to enjoy, and melt in your mouth decadent. I always pick them up whenever I go on a Saturday morning. Even if you are not there for their famous peameal sandwiches, you should be there for their famous butter tarts and other variety of pastries ;)
Tourist Must-Do. The peameal bacon sandwich is an absolute must. We planned to make this an early stop on our Toronto tour and were not disappointed. Words to describe it fail me. If you want to kick it up a half notch, swing by Kozlick's Mustard stand, sample a few, and add your favorite mustard to this fantastic taste of Toronto!
The best bacon on a bun I have ever eaten! Melt in my mouth.... Sooo good ( I prefer not to add any sauces)....
Back Bacon on a Bun. Probably the best back bacon on a bun in the city. Yes, I know there is enough salt in there to kill you, but you shouldn't eat one of these every day. Nice selection of condiments, the sandwiches are always fresh and the service is fast. Fantastic.
I finally understood why so many people enjoyed Carousel's infamous sandwich. The peameal bacon was just the perfect amount of saltiness and the outer trim of ground yellow cornmeal surrounding the bacon was crispy and added a nice crunchy texture. The bread was also very soft and warm, something that all sandwiches should have. Although, this sandwich is very simple; the tastes are very pure and show off the true flavors of peameal bacon. However, in the end, peameal bacon is peameal bacon; it was very good, but just an extraordinary sandwich of a usually ordinary meat. Also, one criticism that I will say is that the sandwiches seemed to already be prepared and it would have been nice to see them actually put the sandwich together from scratch. Service was also excellent at Carousel.
On occasion I’ll hit up one of the other vendors for a couple slices of cheddar. Usually I just eat it plain though. Not even any mustard.

We had almost given up hope after halfing our pea meal bacon sandwich. We had scoured both floors of the market but all the while it was right under our nose – which was hidden by the massive sandwiches we had before us.
They serve good quality peameal bacon and portion is quite generous.

Carousel Bakery piles on the Canadian peamla bacon on a fresh Kaiser bun topped as you choose.
if you have tried this place you`ll never be satisfied by any others.
There was constantly a lineup at this place so I was pretty excited about seeing what the fuss was all about. It was OMG-fatty good. I wanted to add some dijon mustard but seeing the
Breakfast on a bun bacon sandwich with two slices of lean peameal-style bacon, a fried egg, and cheese, served on a bun.
dre @ St. Lawrence Market: The next week's posts is a series of eats from the first ever BiteMe Food Crawl Extravaganza! We spent a whole day wandering around Toronto to tryout pre-determined restaurants. These food joints that I picked were a mix of old favourites, suggestions from friends, family, and coworkers, and recommendations from the internet. It was neat, because as the day went on, people would join in and leave as their schedule permitted. It was a fun day that started out rainy, but turned really sunny afterwards. To see the pics of all the adventures, you can check out our Facebook page . We started off at St. Lawrence Market where 3 of us shared 2 sandwiches. The first sandwich was from Carousel Bakery, which is known for their "World Famous Peameal Bacon Sand-wich". It was funny, because, many places in St. Lawrence sold peameal bacon sandwiches, so I'm not sure what was so special about this place. The sandwich had 3-4 slices of bacon in it, but didn't seem that sp
I’ve been hearing about peameal bacon sandwiches for years so when Alli and I finally visited the St Lawrence Market, I decided it was time to finally try one. Carousel apparently has a pretty good version, at least that’s what their dozens of signs, awards and celebrity endorsements will lead you to believe. Turns out it was pretty awesome and shockingly simple. Simple slices of peameal bacon that had been either pan fried or deep fried and then put on a fresh white roll. That’s it. If you don’t like bacon, the countless rows of fresh food vendors in this gorgeous historic building is still worth a trip.
Our first visit to the Market and the Peameal Bacon sandwich lived up to the hype! The super light, fluffy bread was perfect so the focus stayed on the bacon. Delish! We'll be back =)
A very nice experience with a very good breakfast sandwich. We got the “Peameal Bacon on a Bun” and it was simple but very tasteful. The bacon is high quality and full of flavor. I loved it and I would like to try all the other things too.
It doesn't look like much. However, it is a no-frills Peameal bacon sandwich with some mustard and tomato sauce. This is my first time eating Peameal bacon. I would say it has lived up to the hype for me. Overall, it is reasonably priced and a great place for people who just came to Toronto and want to try Peameal bacon.
Had to get the iconic peameal sandwich from here and it was pretty good! It's really just a bunch of meet sandwiched in a bun but definitely yummy
Whenever we came to St. Lawrence market we bought peameal bacon buns from here, like a tradition now LOL
Green P parking has Saturday special, $1 per hour for the first 2 hours.
We went looking for this place after watching Antony bourdain a while ago.
Delicious food, bread, Iced tea and service :)
The peameal bacon sandwich on a kaiser roll at Carousel Bakery is the epitome of sentimental old Toronto for me (as someone who grew up in the area). I remember it being really salty, as a kid. It’s now become a more balanced saltines. I crave it every time I return - it’s a nostalgic, comfort food.
Very unfriendly girl taking the orders
They don’t take CC and the charge an extra $7 for withdrawal money from the ATM next to them
I tried the famous peameal bacon sandwich it was good
It might be famous, but for me was a checked
