Review Union Restaurant - Toronto

I recently went here for brunch. The food was amazing! Excellent quality and everything my friends and I ordered was good. I ordered the flat top breakfast. The eggs were fresh, the bacon are nice and thick, the bread was nicely toasted. The rosti needs a sentence of its own. It’s so crispy and browned to perfection! You won’t be disappointed if you come here for brunch. Totally worth your money and staff are super friendly.

I loved the flat iron breakfast and the smoked trout biscuit. Friendly servers and great food. Make a reservation in advance! We came here a few times for Sunday brunch but the wait time was 1 hour + without reservation.

4/5 Good food! We had their steak tartare, ribs, and steak & fries. They were unfortunately quite understaffed when we visited so we had to waive the server down multiple times. Subtracting one star for the service and cold fries. The food is tasty!

Was introduced to UNION at Ossington Street by my friend Bill Sleno today and it was a marvellous mouth tickling discovery. Very crowded, this Brunch place (we were a party of 8 who went for Brunch) is an absolutely delight to eat in. Prompt efficient and helpful service, quite reasonable, some great Oysters to eat and each dish was marvellous. Oh and it was packed to the gills. We had reserved a table. Wish it were not so far away or I would be a regular here. If you haven't tried Union, do so at your earliest.

Excellent first experience. We tried the oysters, kohlrabi, zucchini, steak tartar, ribs, steak, and Elk sliders. The food was tasty and the service was genuine and friendly. Highly recommend.

All around amazing experience. The space is beautiful and very cozy. Every dish out did the one before it. I’m not going to go into detail about each dish, you can trust that anything coming out of that kitchen is going to be amazing. See photos! We had a couple oysters, union salad, salmon crudo, steak and ribs and for desert crème brûlée. Highly recommend.

After debating which restaurant to go to along Ossington, (there are a lot!) we landed on putting a reservation in for Union. Seemed like great reviews although not many recent ones in 2022. All in all, their food was pretty good. Flavourful, well-portioned, and well cooked. A solid 4 star French restaurant where you'll enjoy a filling meal but is not necessarily something spectacular or outstanding. The additional -1 star is from the service that could use some improvement. At the time, the restaurant was about half full, but from what I observed, they may have also been shorthanded having only 3 or so servers. I get that when you're serving drinks, food, and bussing, it becomes chaotic, but as a restaurant you also understand the # of expected guests and balance that against the staff required. Servers were not very attentive, requiring to be flagged down for anything, and a big point of improvement was their attitude. Most servers looked doom & gloom like they didn't want or need you business. Not a good vibe. Now the food.. We ordered the elk sliders to start and I was actually hoping they would be a little gamier in flavour. They were really well cooked to a nice medium-well, juicy, but ultimately resembled a good normal beef slider. The steak tartare was quite good, they offer it in app size (3oz) and a main size (6oz). We ordered the main size and it was quite good topped with homemade pickles, and accompanied by 2 mustards, a hot sauce, and 6 large slices of toasted bread. The tartare itself already had quite a bit of mustard in it. They probably could've gone a little lighter on the mustard in the tartare as there were moments where it overpowered the flavourful meat itself. The steak frites was probably my favourite. Steak was perfectly cooked medium rare (although they didn't ask how we liked it) and seasoned, topped with a compound butter. The fries were perfectly crispy and thin, topped with a big dollop of homemade mayo that had a slight sweetness to it. Food was good, service needed improvement. Hopefully they get back to their previous pre-pandemic groove as they seem to have a history of great food and service. Cheers.

We came for breakfast. The immediate thing that stood out was the host (bus-person); let’s just say he didn’t make a great impression and leave it there. We sat outside and the service left very little to desire for, let’s just say it lacked polish. The Caesars were nice, we enjoyed them; I would order them again. The steak tartare lacked creativity and quite frankly taste. It was bland and predictable to say the least. The hot sauce was surprisingly hot, nobody was kidding there! Yet it was delicious. The Mushrooms on Toast (chanterelles) were the absolute star of our meal. I’d highly recommend it. So in summary: give it a shot, and decide whether it’s somewhere to return to. I doubt we will…

Excellent in every way. Fantastic food, amazing charcuterie plate, great service and patio in the back. Try the Frankie's Fist cocktail. Definitely a place to go while in Toronto.

Great friends invited us for an impromptu dinner Friday aug 3rd and didn’t disappoint. The service, atmosphere, food and the best G+T(s) I’ve ever had. Absolutely outstanding, well done!

I'd love to comment on the food but the staff is so rude I refuse to eat there. Making simple reservations or asking a question over the phone, will come with a complimentary eye roll. They even have the nerve to refuse giving you a reservation if you say you want it but will call back if you need to cancel... my advice is to not bother giving your money to this place, but if you are in the mood to feeling inferior while you eat, I'd recommend just not showing up if plans change. There are plenty of other restaurants like this one in Toronto, and the staff there are a lot less pompous.

This place was almost really good. Beautiful room, interesting menu. The cabbage on my dish was intensely salty and when I brought it to my servers attention (after she had been away from our table for a very long time) she simply said "Oh". Our drinks sat empty and we left disappointed. Too bad.

My family and I attempted to go for brunch at Union on Sunday. We arrived early before opening as they do not take reservations for brunch. When it was our turn to be seated we were promptly refused service! And why? Because my 14 month old son was sleeping in his stroller. The host was extremely rude and told me I would have to remove my son from the stroller in order for us to be allowed in. I was certainly not about to wake up my sleeping baby. I asked if I could put the stroller to the side while he slept and was ignored. (Note; my stroller is very compact. It fits into the overhead of an airplane! Not something that would have been taking up a lot of room). The host then said to me "you decide what you want to do?" and walked away before even listening to anything I had to say. No solution was offered and my request to put the stroller in a corner was ignored. So we had no choice but to leave thus I'm not even able to comment on the food as we never had a chance to try it. Extremely rude, condescending and lacking any form of customer service. Would never go back or recommend for anyone else to go there! Ps: they delete comments of their Instagram. Maybe instead of spending time deleting comments they could spend it on some customer service training

What a stroke of luck to find this little gem on a beautiful summer afternoon. Lovely, relaxed courtyard cafe with a huge tree that provided a lovely canopy from the sun. Superb Spanish white wine was the perfect accompaniement for the Lovell Springs Trout. The Texas style pecan pie couldn't have been tastier. Thank you Paul for the great service.

Excellent hamburger althogh a little bit pricey. Maybe upsized with some extras like mushrooms, onions etc.. would validate the price... great tastaing burger though...

Went for brunch with friends. Wanted a scrambled egg instead of sunny side up (hate runny eggs) and the waitress said no problem it will just cost $1 more because it is 1 more egg. I thought no problem. Next she came back and said they couldn’t do substitutions. Apparently a kitchen issue. They couldn’t take a second a break the yolk so it’s not runny?? Especially since you pay so much already.

Took my girlfriend there for an early Valentines dinner. The good was fantastic and the service prompt and courteous. Prices were a little high but the quality of the food and atmosphere totally justified it being slightly more than one might usually spend.

That was the best SMW RE: Union, ever. Thanks to Union, their perfect patio, and chef Teo Paul's hospitality, generosity and amazing menu. We ♥ Union.

Come for the steak tartar alone! Great food, and a comfortable environment. Can be slow. But good food freshly prepared takes time.

Love the Sunday night Paris menu. Atmosphere is great. Staff amazing. Got to sit at chef's bar this past weekend. What a great team. We had oysters (divine) steak tartar shrimp sticky ribs and the frites with mayo. Each course as amazing as the next. Will keep coming back.
