Good English Pub

Visited for a beer after work and very impressed. Stylish and well laid out inside, excellent patio to people watch on Yorkville. Excellent service and a good selection of beers. Plan to come back for dinner.

I have been dining at The Oxley for a couple of years now. It is a very warm, cozy and inviting place.

My favourite dish is the vegetarian Mushroom Pithivier. The wines by the glass list include too many Ontario choices. We live in a world with great wine regions, Ontario, is not one of them.

The bartender makes a pretty good classic martini. The servers are friendly, efficient and professional. The prices are reasonable.

Overall, The Oxley is one of my top ten restaurants in Toronto.

Great spot for brunch! I've been here about three times now. They have a cute backyard seating area I enjoy. So far I can recommend the fish and chips, the full English breakfast, and the eggs Benedict which they serve on homemade scones. They also make a good Pimms Cup.

Warm & Inviting!  The Oxley is one of those locations that you walk right into - and it feels warm, inviting, and it has a very lovely ambiance.  A throw-back to an authentic British Pub you'd find on the other side of the Atlantic.

The mixed-drinks and cocktails are absolutely phenomenal and very much spot-on!  Great patio both in front- and in the back of the building.

Good place for pub foods too!

Nice little spot but a bit dead on a Saturday evening. My wife had fish and chips that consisted of probably the best fish we have ever had.

An unexpectedly delicious lunch. We were looking for an unpretentious place to eat and, happily, wandered into this gem. With a couple of cold beers we explored a quirky but solid menu. Both my partner and I love Brit food and the riffs on some of the standards elevated them to a new level.Everything we tried was exceptional in preparation, presentation and yumminess. Especially liked the sardines on toast, glazed pickerel and heirloom roots and grains.
Really good food.

I have become a regular here because of the good food, comfortable setting, satisfying beer, cocktails and wine menu, and friendly servers. The food menu has lots of choices prepared British style. Specials are usually the best choices although I enjoy the lamb curry (it's very spicy). After dinner cheese plate is also a nice selection of British cheeses. I always leave satisfied.

My two sons and I decided to try the Oxley, after searching out a new place to eat in Yorkville, on a very cold Saturday evening in February.  The Oxley doesn't look like much, until you step inside and experience its charm.  The bar is well stocked and has a variety of draft beers. The inside is very dark and extremely homey.  Once you sit down you just want to stay. After selecting our pints, which included Innis and Gunn and Fullers London Pride, we decided to order from the bar menu.   The bar menu was

Perfect patio weather which is probably why most of the patio seats have a wait for the dinner service. We were lucky and grabbed the last patio table. The server was really nice even though he was swamp with tables in the patio. We ordered the curried mussels & chips for appetizer. It was a good sized, the sauce was curried but was not spicy. The chips were fresh cut potatoes fried. It was a good opening to the main meal. My friend ordered the steak & chips and I ordered the lamb chops & kidneys. The mixed up my order and thought I ordered another dish but they were pretty nice in exchanging to the dish that I did order, no arguments there. I had to watch my friend enjoy her steak but they gave me some chips to snack on which was nice. The lamb chops were worth the wait. It was grilled nicely on both side and easy to chew. The sauce was very tasty with the kidneys. I love lamb so the strong flavour of lamb did not bother me.

One of the latest additions to the Yorkville scene is the Oxley Public House.  People watching at its finest on the street side patio,  or

Nine out of ten foodies agree that Yorkville is kind of a culinary wasteland. This really became apparent in a recent CH thread where a visitor requested a good spot to eat in Yorkville and we basically all told them to forget it. I'm not sure why all of the upcoming chefs are steering clear of the neighbourhood... its busy, lots of walk-by traffic, a tonne of top hotels, and people with money. Sounds like a successful business opportunity to me. However, for all of those same reasons, I guess Yorkville kind of lacks the sexy, young, hip feeling of lets-just-say Ossington or Queen W, where people like me find myself schlepping to on a weekly basis for good eats. That's why I was pretty excited when I heard that the guys who run the Queen and Beaver were opening a similar joint in Yorkville. The decor is similar to the Q B. Its very British, and very comfy, with a nice big fireplace that I know I am going to be all over come fall. The servers were all very cute, and attentive, and filled out water glasses consistently. They have a great drink menu, and I wanted something sweet, so I had a blackberry mojito which was really delicious. The SO went with the Whisky Sour, which they did really well as well with lots of frothy egg whites (the one he ordered on Friday at Scarpetta had none- aka. failed). The menu is very upscale British. Yes, you got your classics like meat pies and fish chips, but there are also a lot of interesting offerings like venison and guinea fowl. In the mood for comfort food, we stuck close to what I knew they might do best. Melted Brie, Fennel and Honey on Toast: The brie was a stronger one, so it could have used a bit more honey to balance it out. But in general, I loved this, and it was a great snack for any time of day. Squab and Rhubarb-Pippall Chutney: Loved those little hickory sticks, it added a really nice textural contrast. It also lent a delicious salty note to counter the sweet chutney, so the dish as a whole was really well balanced. Fish and Chips: Really nice light batter and perfectly cooked fish, but the star of the dinner was no doubt the chips. We both agreed that these were some of the best fries we've tasted in a long time. They reminded me of the chip truck we visit on our way up to the cottage, which is always an awesome food memory to channel. they were super crispy outside, yet really fluffy and moist inside. Really, it doesn't get much better than this. Cheddar and Bacon Burger and Chips: Now I'm not one to order a burger at a restaurant, but I was so glad that I did because this one was really good. Not a huge burger, but perfectly sized if you want to thoroughly enjoy those fries. I appreciated that they will cook them to the diners' requested temperature, so I went with medium (but would try medium rare next times). Even at medium, it was incredibly juicy and flavourful with just the right amount of fat. The cheese added a nice sharp bite, and the bun (while maybe a wee bit small for the patty) was buttery and delicious. My only complaint would be that the thick-cut bacon on top could have been cooked a little bit more for me (I actually don't like crispy bacon, but because it was so thickly cut, a lot of the fat had not yet rendered so it was a bit chewy). Crunchy Walnut Maple Tart and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream: So I went with the sticky toffee pudding last time at the Q B, which I adored and you all know its my favourite dessert. However, I do try not to re-order (and thus, re-review) the same dishes, so I opted for the walnut maple tart. While not as good as the STP, it was really a delicious dish. The tart shell itself was flaky and perfectly sweetened (and I usually don't like pie/tart crust), and I loved the intense crunch that came from the caramelized walnuts on top. I could have used a bit more chewy-gooey factor from the filling (mmm like my favourite butter tarts from Flaky Tart), but you know, I'm not going to be too picky. Chocolate Ice Cream: Just a wee scoop for the man who's not much for dessert. A very rich, dark chocolate flavour with a creamy consistency. I was a bit disappointed that the Oxley didn't have all of the cool ice cream flavours offered at the Q B (they only had vanilla, chocolate and blue cheese cherry), but maybe they will work those in slowly. So for 3 cocktails, 2 apps, 2 mains and 2 desserts, the bill was $130 including tax and tip. Pretty damn good for the amount of food we got. This is definitely our new choice for drinking and eating casually in the hood. Patio in the summer, fireplace in the winter.

LOVE taking my clients and new tourists to Toronto here. Very classy, old English/Scottish vibes. Their PITHIVIER dish is to die for -- savoury, delicious and keeps you coming back for more. This place is a pub classic for Yorkville-goers with some modern dishes too. Lots of seating outside for patios and positive, fun ambience.

Dropped in for a Pint and they have a great variety. Enjoyed a local Stout as well as some apps. Great place. Great service.

The drinks were delicious but the service was questionable; two different servers were taking our orders and one would continuously scold us for ordering with his co-worker saying it was his table. Don’t blame the customer for internal work conflict! 🤷‍♀️ Would definitely come back bc the drinks and vibe was great, but the internal issues need to be sorted out.
