Review Planta - Toronto

Cassandra Harvey
Amazing place! I came here for my birthday and I LOVED it. Food was amazing and I highly recommend the lasagna. I’ve been to other locations but this one is by far my favourite. The dumplings were phenomenal. All the staff are so kind and welcoming. The restaurant decor is beautiful and the seating is very comfortable. Will definitely be going back.

First Time Experience at PLANTA (full plant based restaurant <3) for a celebration Dinner! The restaurant is modern, fresh and beautiful! Love its concept! The staff demonstrated great customer service during our reservation. We tried three various appetizers; cauliflower tots, Bang Bang Broccoli and Queso Fundido. All tasted great! We had Lemon Water & Planta Punch Cold Press Juice! So Fresh! Then we all tried different signature dishes; The Planta Burger with Almond Parmesan Truffle Fries, Spaghettini Alla Carbonara and Lasagna (Amazing)! All the dishes were Amazing! For Dessert, we had NY Cheesecake, Dark Chocolate Brownie with Melted Chocolate drizzle on top and (I don't remember the name) served in a Stemmed Glass - Blueberry, Cream Mouse Dessert. ALL the dessert were Decadent! The Ladies finished with a coffee! 5 Star plus for amazing food, promptness, servers, customer service, experience and atmosphere! Highly reccommended! Excellent atmosphere, food, and service! The sauce used for the lasagna was delicious and I would highly recommend the Bang Bang Broccoli appetizer. There wasn't a physical dessert menu, but our server listed off three options to choose from (cheesecake, Brownie with ice cream, and maple parfait). Our server was especially great, recommending menu items and making sure our water glasses were never empty. All in all, I would highly recommend!

Went for lunch on Friday, we reached at 12.15 and the restaurant was packed by 1 PM. Excellent ambiance, full of light and greenery. Good seating arrangements and the service was good too. Food was fabulous, we were recommended the Bang Bang Broccoli, which I cannot emphasize how amazing it was, must have! The steamed dumplings were really good too. The cauliflower tots were okay, would try something in its place next time. I had the lasagna which was totally worth it, and I’d recommend it. My colleagues had the Hawaiian pizza, the lettuce wraps and Pad Thai Slaw and all were satisfied. Finally we had the cheesecakes and their cookie (which was enormous, could easily serve 3-4 ppl) and again, great desserts too! I would definitely revisit, thanks Planta!

Best restaurant in Toronto! We enjoyed a delicious dinner and all the dishes were delicious! They also have plenty of gluten free options. We had sushi, gluten free pizza, zucchini lasagna, carbonara and fresh juices that were super tasty. I highly recommend this restaurant for vegan and non vegan people, you will love it!!!

This place is so good!! It’s hard to find a more upscale vegan dining experience but this checked all the boxes. The atmosphere is that of a very nice restaurant with hip decor. The servers are pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed all our food. My dad is not vegan and enjoyed everything too. The bang bang broccoli is 🔥the habibi bowl was delicious but the maple custard was my favorite. My dad enjoyed the spaghettini. The cauliflower tots were probably our least favorite - still very good, but not as exciting as everything else. Would love to go back!

If there was a 6 star, I would give it. We loved every part of our date night here. The atmosphere & ambience is gorgeous and inviting. All the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was so good that we were giddy lol We each had an 8 oz glass of wine, an entree salad to share, entree each and shared a dessert which was $130 but worth every penny. I absolutely loved the salad and my pasta, nothing tasted like it was vegan!

I always wanted to try this place, as I have been trying to eat more vegan. I visited the place with very high expection and it has been exceeded. First of all, I loved the interior of the place. Staffs were very friendly and caring. I enjoyed everything my server recommended. What I liked the most was that the food was not salty. The biggest problem I had whenever I buy vegan products or order vegan food elsewhere is that they were too spicy or salty. I didnt have such problem at this place. I am looking forward to visiting this place again and trying different flavours.

Veggie Choice<br/><br/>Cozy place and friendy staff. Add the Queso Dip for starters. Good combination of ingredients that get along with fresh tortilla chips. Followed by Watermelon Poke: smashed avocado with cubes of watermelon and cilantro. Definitely refreshing plate. For both plates paid 32$. Good experience.

It felt like a Friday in there even though it was only the middle of the week.  The entire place was decorated like a millennial’s dream — so many cylindrical rose-coloured light fixtures, plant decor, plant wallpaper, and even two swings for you to hang out in if you were in the waiting area (actually, for photos.  OF COURSE they’re for photos!)

Planta is one of the trendy vegetarian restaurants in Toronto, with a buzzing ambience! I happen to love their starters the most - Cauliflower tots for 10.50$ are a mouthful of hot melting cauliflor sprinkled with cheese. Kimchi spring rolls for 11$ are tangy and crunchy, and taste great with the dip. Nachos for 11.50$ are presented with a twist - beans, queso, pico de gallo, and chipotle crema make it so much more flavorful and filling. Garlic bread 🥖 for 8.95$ has a lovely buttery crispy texture. Sautéed spinach for 8.95$ and truffle fries 🍟 for 8.89$ compliment everything on their menu. Lettuce 🥬 wrap for 19.95$ could have been better if it had sautéed vegetables in sauce rather than fried mushrooms.<br/>You can read your review on my Instagram page as well @kittyz_kaurner.<br/>https://www.instagram.com/p/BzxFXidB0Sp/?igshid=1mjpmkpiflfal

This is quite a place to visit for vegans - excellent ambiance (quite noisy though), and good food, especially the desserts. This was also the first time we went for the bar seats and it was a good experience overall. <br/><br/>And definitely call them first before going because they are often busy and may not have a table right away. We booked a slot on the bar since they were a full house on tables. <br/><br/>Food & Drinks: <br/><br/>While they have a very extensive wine menu, the rest of the liquors just didn't seem to find many places (ran out of space!!). While I went for Ace HIll Draught, I wish they had a few more options, like the Corona or the Bud. My wife ordered Watermelon Whim (cold pressed watermelon with basil and lime) and it was good - especially the freshness of the basil was absolutely amazing and very refreshing. For the followup drink, we shared a For Love and Lemons (which is white wine, tarragon infused syrup, cold-pressed lemon, fever tree soda) which was really good as well. So, except for a narrow menu outside wines and cocktails, it is a great place for drinks. <br/><br/>For food, we started off with Stuffed Mushrooms and Tomato Tart. I wasn't so impressed with the look of Tomato Tart as the tart was completely hidden under the greens and tomatoes which suggested more like a Tomato Salad than a Tomato Tart. However, I loved the freshness of the overall dish (unintended I believe) and the perfect proportion of balsamic that gave a really good kick. The pine nut crust was good. The stuffed mushrooms were really good as well - bite size heavens. This was followed up with a The Bianca pizza - which was a little disappointing. While the toppings were good, the outer pure-flour crust was a little too much compared to the toppings area. I found the combination of the flavors (roasted rosemary potatoes, kale, olives, and capers) okay. <br/><br/>For the desserts, we went for the Avocado Lime Cheesecake and Sinful Chocolate Brownie. The cheesecake was quite good but the star was the Brownie which was absolutely amazing. The ice-cream on top was great - although a little more sugary - and the brownie beneath was a perfect combination. Loved it! <br/><br/>Ambiance: <br/><br/>It gets quite noisy as there is music and then people chatting even louder due to the music. This was the first time we tried the bar seat since they didn't have a table available at the time we arrived (we called up before leaving to reserve the table and they were full for about 1.5 hours and we didn't want to get late). The bar table is quite spacious and it was great to see bartenders making all different kinds of drinks in front of you. Chairs could be a bit more comfortable but still okay. <br/><br/>Staff: <br/><br/>The staff was quite good and friendly. Although their service can be a little fast - not sure if they were failing to catch up with the rush or they are traditionally slow. The food came quite late - especially the pizza took forever to come and it took a reminder after a good wait to make the bartender check on the pizza status. <br/><br/>Overall, it's one of those few places that are really hip vegan - love the confidence with which vegan community projects itself out there with bars and fine dining restaurant - bunking all the myths around cruelty-based food.

Planta opened back in 2016, making news as it was started by Chef David Lee, who’s other restaurants Nota Bene and Carbon Bar (the later he has since split ties), don’t exactly scream vegetarian. It was one of the first of the first meatless restaurants that was trendy, with the higher price points to match. Their menu consists of sharable options, also main plates and salad bowls for those who want their own meal. Most dishes are very small, so for a table of two, you’ll want two mains plus a couple smaller dishes.<br/><br/>To get to the citrus soy used in the watermelon poke ($13.95), you really need to dig to the bottom; without the sauce the dish merely tastes like you’re having watermelon salad with avocado. Even with a bit of the soy it doesn’t seem poke-like - ours arrived missing the shredded nori, a pretty but stale rice paper chip substituted instead. Perhaps with crispy shredded nori, some seaweed salad, and sesame seeds the dish would be more reminiscent of poke. For now, it’s best described as a refreshing watermelon salad.<br/><br/>Having had coconut ceviche ($14.25) at a second location now, it seems strange that no one cuts it into cubes, which would be closer to how actual ceviche is made. Instead, the young coconut is served in slices making it difficult to

My favourite vegan restaurant in the city! Amazing decor and good food. I have been here twice now. I think my favourite items are always the yummy seasonal cocktails...the watermelon margarita this past summer wins my vote! The last time I was here I got the planta burger, very yummy but super messy. It’s also so big that I should have only eaten half especially because it comes with such yummy spicy fries. As for starters I recommend the queso! I had the cheese platter last time but honestly I’m not fond of vegan cheese, it was warm and everything tasted like smoke flavouring, the gherkins and the dried cranberries were the best part of it. This fall won my favourite desert yet...banoffee pie! It was a huge portion and I finished every last bite...I couldn’t stop. Without question I will be back.

In the spirit of trying something new, my friend and I headed to Planta. We are open-minded meat eaters excited to see what plant-based food is like. Is it veggies trying to be meat? We shall see! . The location is absolutely gorgeous. All angles scream 'Instagram this!' I'm glad we made reservations, this place is busy! My friend had heard how good the Planta Burger and their Truffle Fries were, so that was a no brainer. Myself, having a deep seeded love for pizza and carbs, chose the Italian Job.

Planning to go a Italian restaurant nearby and we ended up here. It was just before 12 and upon arrival, the hostess weren't visibly pleased we came without a reservation. After some pondering we were told that we'd have to finish by 1pm as they had reservations. <br/><br/>The server was completely the opposite - she was was so pleasant and warm. We had Spagettoni and a Burger. The Spagettoni had Zucchini pesto rather than Kale. <br/><br/>Both were very well made and were well refined dishes. If you are looking for Vegan Junk food, this is not the place Although the dishes were great, the burger needed some more seasonings. The mushroom bacon tasted like mushroom. The texture was perfect. The burger also needed some extra toppings. Even the mustard did not have the zing. The fries with the burger was amongst the best. Lightly dusted with some spice and perfectly fried. The Mayo also had bit more lemony taste. On the plus side it seemed it was homemade and not in a factory. <br/><br/><br/>The Spagettoni cooked perfectly and the sauce just right. Perhaps needed a bit of garlic and or black pepper. <br/><br/>The decor, the service made up all slightl deficiencies.

Ever been to a place so good that 5 stars rating is not good enough? Well this is pretty much the fanciest vegan place I have ever been to. And I have been to alot.<br/><br/>I ordered their Italian job pizza and their truffle fries. Pizza is thin crust. Fresh and delicious. Fries are amazing. Decor is as good as it gets. DJ playing awesome lounge beats. Friendly service.<br/><br/>Overall I'm very impressed by the whole experience. Keep in mind place is very packed. I strongly recommend reserving a seat. I'm surely coming back for their burger.

Strengths:<br/>- fantastic modern and fun decor (palm tree wallpaper, live plants in the walls, high ceilings, rose gold accents and cutlery), light and refreshing cocktails, careful attention paid to execution, assembly, and plating of food<br/>- I think vegans will really enjoy this restaurant. Because the execution of the food was very thoughtful, creative, and complex. <br/>- Some of their vegan components were the best vegan options I've ever had, in particular their "aioli"<br/>Weaknesses:<br/>- I found this quite overpriced.<br/>- For someone that isn't a vegan, it fell short for me. I found the dishes to be a hit or miss. <br/>- For example, the thai noodle salad had good flavour, but the cauliflower tots were bitter. <br/>- The vegan burger wasn't very flavourful but was very filling and was probably still one of the better textured vegan burgers that I've had. The vegan bun was surpisingly good (slightly dense and chewy); but the fries weren't good.<br/>- The "crab cakes" were the most impressive visually, because they used hearts of palm but the texture really resembled crab cakes. Flavour wise, it was way too acidic. The sauce and lentils? underneath were great though!<br/><br/>Overall: If you're not a vegetarian or vegan, I would skip this. Otherwise, definitely give it a try, or at the very least go for drinks.

I actually really enjoyed my meal. We had a salad (I forget which one now) and a burger with the truffle fries. My favourite item was definitely the truffle mayo (I know, I know, but how can you resist). Very nice ambiance and very insta-worthy. Have to say though, it was very pricey compared to places like Apiecalypse Now and the Hogtown Vegan.

Planta, in all its exposed brick and glass panel glory, can be easily spotted upon exiting Bay station at its west exit on Bay Street. Seldom does the opportunity for me to venture to the luxury retail region of the core arise, and even rarer is the chance for a proper sit-down meal as I'm usually hopping from one spot to another with minimal time to spare.<br/><br/>We arrived shortly before noon to find, in the most literal sense possible, a largely empty restaurant.<br/><br/>The establishment boasted high ceilings (with shrubbery peeking out from allotted rectangular spots), plants of varying sizes in almost every nook and cranny, construction materials ranging from sleek lacquered pillars to the same exposed brick formation used for the exterior, and a mindblowing assortment of geometric light fixtures. The black and white base theme was largely minimal, yet the boxy details and splashes of rose gold added sophistication as well as cohesion.

Planta was one of the most beautiful restaurants I have been to in Toronto. The dim lighting made it feel like very much a special occasion sort of place (also the small portions and steep prices!) I am vegetarian so was thrilled by having such a diverse menu. My friend and I shared the coconut ceviche (true flavours of ceviche in soft young coconut - delicious), cauliflower fritters (flavoursome), Thai noodle salad (flavours a little lost in translation) and the burger plate (great chips but burger burnt and the bun quite hard). Overall the food was good but not truly spectacular as one would expect from the surroundings and the hype.

One of my favs. This is a nice vegan place if you want a little more of an upscale atmosphere. A friend and I tried a bit of everything. We had the carrot dogs, the 'crab' cakes, the beet salad and the dumplings. We tried a refresher and an energizer shot. We finished with the chocolate dessert. Everything was amazing. All of that with tax and tip came to just over $100. I would go back in a heart beat.

Highly recommend the Thai noodle salad! It was so flavourful and filling. The truffle fries and cauliflower tots were awesome as well. I was extremely impressed by the food and the decor! Staff were friendly and attentive as well.

Planta is a great new vegetarian spot- I went for brunch with friends recently; the ambiance is fantastic. We stayed for about three hours eating and drinking mint tea. The cauliflower tots with truffle parmesan were incredible, we almost ordered a second plate when we finished them. I had the habibi bowl and it was flavourful and endless. Looking forward to going back for dinner

Absolutely delicious! Great concept and beautiful decor and atmosphere. Not to mention, the food was outstanding. We had the truffle pizza, tots, and coconut ceviche. Wish I had room to try more so we can't wait to go back and order something different!!
