Review Vibo - Toronto

Nick Pavlov
Luca continues the triumphant legacy of his parents Resto (Villa Borghese), with his exceptional interpretation of what a dining experience should be. VIBO represents not only his pedigree and their aspirations but ultimately something truly extraordinary. Always striving for more and never resting on their past successes. Their menu is always evolving with fresh, local and relevant combinations. Classics are given modern inputs that elevate and amuse diners. The menu is wide but carefully curated. All dishes are presented with substance and quality. Their wine list is fantastic…very approachable but also extremely well stocked if your searching for something rare and special. The service is staffed by mature fine-dining professionals, many of whom are career servers, dedicated to their craft and this institution. The dining room features an array of seating options, from booths to a stunning bar area and the front area (with fireplace) that can accommodate larger groups. The patio is around the side and superbly organized and presented with gorgeous lighting. They also offer and event space on the second floor, that I celebrated many of life’s milestones. I am submitting this review having had three recent outings there and over 50 dinners there in the last decade. If you want to enjoy a memorable dinner, you will be very hard pressed to find a better Resto. Very much worth a visit. Friendly and Generous in spirit and food. You arrive as a guest, you leave as part of the family. Way to go VIBO, cheers to another 50 years in the community and city.

An elegant high-end restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere/ambiance that really sets the mood. The food was delicious and beautifully presented while the staff were extremely professional and knowledge about their menu. Service was absolutely top notch. There is a certain price tag that goes with this level of service and elegance but I feel there is good value for the money especially if it is for special occasions. Names of items in the order of the pictures are: 1.) Beef Carpaccio. 2.) AAA Canadian Black Angus New York Striploin With Fries & Aioli. 3.) Italian Gelato & Sorbetto. Highly recommend this place and any of the items I tried from their menu!

Decently priced Italian restaurant. Appetizers are pricey for the quantity they offer in the appetizers but the main entrees are priced nicely for the quantity they give. Not fresh in house made pasta rather store bought pasta. Tomato sauce is alright. Had the Ricotta cheese cake which tasted great. Overall if you are accustomed to great Italian restaurants, this place is not one of them.

Such a lovely place! The food as absolutely delicious, light, and just looks beautiful! Service is on the highest level! We really enjoyed the evening here. Sea Trio and Crème Brûlée deserve a special shout-out! Will come back again.

Great food and service. I was one of a party of six and we were served in an upstairs dining room. Good selection and variety. Food was attractively presented, pace of service was excellent - responsive, but not rushed. Flavors were truly outstanding.

Nice atmosphere. Service was professional but not particularly friendly. Food was okay, but definitely not worth the price. Bread was supermarket quality. They serve defrosted commercial fries with a $42 steak! The prices on their website are not all the same as those charged in the restaurant.

We had a wonderful meal and evening. The service was top notch as was the food. Had the veal medallion special with mushroom risotto. My friends had the calf's liver and the lasagna. All was perfectly prepared and presented. Looking forward to our next meal at ViBo.

Really lovely restaurant. The staff is super professional and pleasant. Food was delicious, not too overpowering. Had the fish of the day which was light and delicious. Will definitely come back.

Great Dinner

We had dinner here a few weeks ago and our meal was delicious as usual . We’ve been here several times before and always found the service to be top notch with a great ambience. We parked around the corner and had a wonderful dinner. This restaurant is good value for your money and gives you excellent quality. Vibo is centrally located and right on the subway line which makes it easy to get to. We live out of the city but think this makes it an excellent choice.

We recently visited Vibo for the Winterlicious menu, and loved it. The food was wonderful, the entree was one of the best ever tasted, the servers were friendly and helpful (Agnes helped us select the wine and ensure the night was special. And dessert topped it all off. Overall a great evening, and we will be back. #greatfood

Great #WINTERLICIOUS Menu with good wines and attentive service. Pictured is the delicious Sicilian Parmigiana di Melanzane paired with a generous goblet of plush Puglia #Negroamaro.
Booths are available at the back for those looking for a more intimate tête-à-tête than the lively front

We were tight on time since we wanted to catch a movie afterwards back in the heart of Toronto so when we placed our orders with the server, I specified that we had to be out of there by 8:45 p.m. (we walked in at 7:20 p.m. and placed our orders by 7:30 p.m.). The server acknowledged my request (it was also noted on the last page of the menu to inform the staff of any time restraints so it was a good idea that I did).

Unfortunately, by 8 p.m., our food still hadn’t arrived yet. (It just so happened that we had all ordered from the pasta section of the menu — so I couldn’t understand why pasta dishes were taking so long to be ready.) We had been waiting for half an hour by that point. At 8:03 p.m., the server came around to tell us that our food would be arriving in about 3 or 4 minutes. That was fine. Unfortunately again, the truth was that it took a lot longer, almost seven times the number of what he told us, because it wasn’t until 8:20 p.m. that our food finally arrived. I kept track of this because we were tight on time and had specifically told the server that we had to be out by 8:45 p.m. In the end, we ended up waiting for an entire hour for our food to arrive from start to finish…. The time that we had to wait for our food to arrive was even longer than the time we actually sat there eating…
Menu Love
Vibo is in the Kingsway neighbourhood. I recently dined at Vibo and the service was superb.

I started with a Hendricks Gin Martini which was made pretty close to how I like it. I ordered the mixed green salad. It was fresh and tasty.

I had a glass of the Seven Peaks Chardonnay, it was quite good....

One to avoid. This was once a neighbourhood institution, known for excellent food and service. Unfortunately no longer. Too many tables in too close proximity. Poorly skilled, ill informed wait staff and food only one level above your average Italian sandwich shop accompanied by Chef Boyardee pasta, make this one to avoid, unless you are a Kingsway "cake" that does not know any better.

Nothing special. I've had better food with a smaller bill. Although they do have quite an extensive wine menu.

Beautiful ambiance, horrible dried out overcooked shellfish. Lights all went on at 10pm even though close was 11pm on a Friday. Just ok. Pricey

Not really great, but not bad either. Vibo purports to be an Italian restaurant, yet the fare is fairly broad-ranging. Overall, our experience there on a Wednesday evening was ‘pleasant’ – neither bad nor great. The staff are cheery and personable – and there seems to be lots of them (we were served throughout the evening by no fewer than five different servers). You can sit in the bright front room with its giant windows facing north onto Bloor St. (Vibo is located one block east of Royal York). There’s also a darker back room surrounding a modern bar. This was our first visit here, but we noted that several other customers seemed to be regulars, likely from the neighbourhood.

Our party of three ordered an appetizer of fried calamari (which the waiter promptly forgot so it had to be re-ordered). It arrived looking like it came out of a frozen food box – neat, almost perfect rings of various sizes, perfectly golden in colour. The taste was great – not a single ring was rubbery or chewey.

We took our time before ordering the main meal – one of us had the Wild Mushroom Risotto with Mascarpone and Parmigiano Reggiano, which was creamy, flavourful and delicious. It did not come with any greens or sides, though. Two of us were like-minded and ordered the Provimi Calf’s Liver with caramelized onion, pancetta and a red wine reduction. It came with a small portion of mashed potatoes, a single slice of a grilled sweet potato, and overcooked greens (asparagus and rapini). The sauce was delicate and wonderful, the liver very tender – in fact, too tender, almost mushy in some spots. Overall, it was a tasty dish but the texture was so soft so I wouldn’t order it again.

We didn’t recognize any of the red wines on the wine list (which ranges in price from $39 to $600 per bottle) so asked for a recommendation “under $45” (that price limit created a short list of choices). An Italian red was recommended, but the server actually brought out a Spanish wine, a Rioja, Miguel Angel Muro (at $44), which suited the liver meals nicely.

Would we go back? Overall, the food and service were ok but could be better for the price paid. But yes, we’d be willing give them another try.
Party Of Two
Pleasant dining experience. This is a lovely Italian restaurant in the far west end. Lots of tables and plenty of staff. The service is good even though we had to ask for water at our table long after our meals arrived. This should have been done before our first cocktail. Service was slightly slow at the beginning - almost like we had been forgotten but it was busy so they were forgiven. Lively like an Italian home! Why some tables had linens and others had place mats was odd.

My beef medallions were good. Not spectacular but good. Bruschetta was delicious but I question the freshness of it. It appeared to have been made hours prior. But, it was good nonetheless! The caesar salad was fresh and delicious with a stunning homemade dressing. I'd go back for that alone! Pasta was al dente - the way it should be and the arribiatta sauce was flavorful. Pastas are their strong point.

Nice selection of old world wines. Mostly Italian with a few Spanish and Argentine wines thrown in.

The place has been around for 40 years yet the decor is homey and warm.

Vibo offers fine dining for those with pedestrian tastes. Certainly satisfactory, good value and an overall pleasant experience yet it's nothing to rave about.

Very nice Italian food. Classic dishes. A real treat. Service is slow on a Friday evening.

Absolute Best. I'm don't often go out to restaurants like this as they are on the higher side of pricing, but the prices actually were not bad at all. Between $15-20 for appitizers, $22-$35 for the majority of main courses. The food and service we're just the best. I've been here 3 times and never have we been treated so well and ate such tasty food. The portions we're okay, definetly needed an appitizer to be satisfied. I don't drink, so not sure on all that stuff, seemed like an impressive wine area though. sometimes they have nice background music too. 10/10 for this place! By far my best dining experience.

Amazing Night Out. Had the best night here with fabulous service & exceptional food. My friends from out of town were amazed at how busy it was but, how attentive the staff were to us.
The food was outstanding as usual that is why this happens to be my favorite Italian restaurant in Etobicoke!!!

Savoured Service and Flavour.. I recently moved to the neighborhood. The name was familiar and I could recall hearing good things from someone, couldn't remember who but thought its safe to take a bet.

Well I was right.

To start off the night we sit down our waiter tells us the specials, and there was about 8 or 9 of them !
- He recited each one, not just the name but complete description.
-They change them daily, depending on the season,(since half were fish specials). It's a challenge I respect it a lot.
You are never left waiting, staff keeps a professional constant watch on your needs.

The Food
My Guest gets a special
- a lamb, in a amazing sauces layered upon potatoes a shrimp garnishes. It was amazing but $34
-I got the Rolatto. It was a pasta rolled but turned with squash in white nutmeg sauce great only $19

While the portions are gourmet sized. They are adequate. and smart with there sauces or flavors fulfill.
Because Italian food is so commercial some chef's find cheats to mask their food.

Its great but it is $$$

Good Italian food in a nice setting, coupled with friendly and attentive staff. A perennial favorite.

The best Italian in Toronto, hands down. And the service, oh my. Makes me feel like family. I fully recommend anyone who appreciates the experience of fine dining to go
