Review Khao San Road - Toronto

Easily, without a doubt, a 5 star Thai restaurant! I'd actually give it 6 if I could it was that authentic and tasty. People complain about the lack of reservations and the loud music and yeah, that's true, but it doesn't impact the quality of the food or the service. Both of which are top notch IMO. We both got pad Thai. I got their Bangkok style Pad Thai spicy level and my wife got their Three Flavours Pad Thai medium spice. Both were packed full of complex flavours and there was a distinct, yet subtle difference, between the two Pad Thai dishes. Their spicy level is hot but nothing crazy. But I was warned that above spicy it gets seriously hot and be warned, I saw plenty of people sweating through their meals! We also got their fried chicken as a starter and it was great, nice light panko crust. We also got their Thai iced tea which, if you have a sweet tooth like, is heaven in a cold, iced glass! Think Vietnamese iced coffee but with tea, and Thai. So so good. All in all this place is well worth the queue and wait.

Came here for dinner before attending a play. Service was quite efficient. The papaya salad was quite spicy. Green curry and pad thai were decent and quite tasty. I enjoyed the Thai iced tea as it was quite strong with nice sweetness to it but it was filled with too much nice.

Great place yo try authentic Thai food. Our group ordered appetizers that was so good with large portions to share. The pumpkin squash was really tasty. For the mains, the three flavour pad Thai was the best tasting. Fir drinks, the signature Thai iced tea was really good, not to sweet considering the amount of ice is in the drink. Singha beer is good for import. Music was bit on the loud side for large table conversations.

We tried garlic shrimp, garlic tofu and Iced tea in the starters . The taste was really good and the food was rightly cooked adding a flavour of garlic to the taste buds. The main course was a perfect blend of sweet and tangy flavours. We really loved and would definitely come again. The staff was really friendly and the service was quick . Overall, we had a great experience!!!

Cozy Thai location in downtown. Came on a Friday evening and it was quite busy, and the seating is quite close together (something to note). Had the pad thai, which was very flavourful and saucy. The curry was very delicious and had good seasoning. The dishes were a bit on the higher end for the portions, but overall not too bad. Service was very friendly.

Excellent food and pleasant service. The kabocha squash fritters are a must-order item! There are no reservations and entire party must be present to be seated, but overall it's well worth the wait!!

We last visited this place over 3 years ago and then our first visit post pandemic restrictions. Firstly, don’t expect comfort seating because that’s impossible in such a busy eating joint. With 2 kids we thanked our stars we got a table (no online reservations). The food - we ordered the chicken massaman curry for the kids with zero spice and that was loved by them! The potatoes and chicken in a coconut sauce was lapped up quickly with the rice! I love Padthai and seem to have an annoying habit of ordering it every Thai space I go to. The flavors were spot on! And everything tasted fresh and not out of a can and cooked! Also the piquant spice was perfect. The hubster ordered a fiery Thai red curry and wasn’t disappointed. He chose to have it at a spice level of Thai 3 🥵but he likes it that way! We enjoyed the fresh mix of lemongrass, the galangal and ginger-garlic. I could’ve ordered more but we chose to eat quickly but the noise was just too loud for us! 😣😣 However don’t hesitate to enjoy their homemade chilli sauce 😋

The food is delicious. The squash fritters are a very unique and tasty starter. The mains are also well portioned and delicious. The most important part is the service of the four ladies that worked there tonight, they were fabulous. It was a busy night, however, they did a great job. Delivering all the take away meals, seating the customers, checking Covid Passports, serving the drinks and the food ensuring that all the needs of the patrons were met. Kudos to the staff for their excellent professionalism. The music is a tad too loud for our liking, however, I guess that's what the young ones like these days.

I used to love this place prior to their reopening on Charlotte but it's been downhill since. Their prices have gone up and their portion have shrank in size. Their wait staff is middling at best during the lunch-time service and rude during takeout and dinner. Take your money and service somewhere else.

Tonight was our first time here. We are vegetarians and had plenty of choices! We were impressed by the gorgeous decor, elevated flavourful food and large portion sizes. We lined up 15 mins before the doors opened, and had no problem getting a table! But it did fill up quickly after that, so arrive early. Try the thai iced tea for a special treat, the squash fritters (beautiful presentation!), and the 3 flavour pad thai or the panang curry. We opted for spice level 2, and it was a bit mild so next time we will go for spice level 3. Enjoy!

Amazing food , amazing atmosphere and amazing staff and owner! He was really nice and asking if everything is ok! The quality of food was great and they had separate gluten free menu! Lots of vegan vegetarian options!

The food was really good. Service was fast and efficient even on a busy Saturday night. The Bang Sue Bar was a treat. Great beer selections on tap.

Like the North American palette, this Thai restaurant caters to a Canadianized menu and though their dishes may sound authentic (basically anything written in a foreign language and pronounced as gibberish) are far from the truth. Much like how Pizza Pizza killed authentic Italian food. Or Taco Bell kills Mexican food. This place kills Thai food. It is so far from the truth but soo many people are blinded by the fact it can hardly even be called, "Thai" food anymore. All they care is they like the taste so deem is as the best, "Thai" food they ever tasted. That is as insulting as one reviewer for a different restaurant who said the greasy spoon with flies on the tables and dirty cutlery was the best, "Chinese" food they ever had. The reviewer was a white couple who claimed because they travelled to China some twenty years ago in a whirl wind tour, they know what Chinese food is suppose to taste like. I was shocked and appalled and don't even get me started on the service or lack of. Unfriendly staff, rude servers and though it all looks pretty and creative using European style square and rectangular plates and bowls. Looks are deceiving. I saw way too much canned stock and MSG for my liking. Servers in a rush don't bother placing bowls and plates down, they practically drop them, thus spilling stuff all over the tables and us, and as quickly as they arrive is as quickly they leave so we don't even get a chance to complain without them demanding we give them proof they were the ones who spilled the dish onto our laps/table. I work in restaurants in hotels and I have 35+ years of experience. So I would like to think I know what good service and cooking techniques are. Here everything is a rush, get the food out as quickly as possible. Don't care what mess they make so long as the customer can eat it even if they have to eat it off the table. And just because I am Chinese it doesn't mean I only support Chinese food. I can taste the difference between marinated pork in, "Sweet-n-Sour Pork", and spoiled pork to know you can't pull the wool over my eyes. And too much sauce and sweetness to cover up you're using spoiled pork... Shame on that Chinese restaurant in Scarborough. As for this place. I know a few Thai people who would be cringing to know I even bothered coming here instead of visiting them for authentic Thai food. Sorry Mama Cho San... I'll be visiting new month for your authentic Thai... for your grand daughter's birthday!!!

The food quality & taste was excellent. Really enjoyed the meal. Better than any I have had in Toronto! they have an upstairs place to hang out while you wait for the table as there was a 30 min wait on a weekday. V popular place.

So expensive! Almost $20 for one entree - small portion and the beef was tough. Disappointing as I heard this was the best place in Toronto. Could get better Pad Sew Ew at Thai Express for $10

Great service and amazing food. I had the pad thai with shrimp. It was the best pad thai I have ever had.

I’m a regular at Pai northern Thai kitchen and this place is just as good.

Great atmosphere, amazing tasting food, fair prices and quality service. Most importantly for me, Celiac safe, probably the safest menu I have seen in Ontario from a kitchen that is not 100% gluten free.

The restaurant was recommended by a family member who lives in Toronto (I’m from Edmonton). Awesome food. Had the fresh rolls and then the Khao Soi, medium spice, and both were delicious. Would go again in a heartbeat.

I know Thai food and the food served here probably caters for Canadian palate. Tried Khao Soi, all the curries, several of the starters & the pad thai. Nothing was good. Everything tasted it could well be a dessert - sweet and sickly. If you have a sweet tooth, you may well like the food here. But, if you're looking for real Thai food or even just Thai food per se, don't go there! I'm sorry but it was the worst Thai food I've ever had outside of Thailand. Awful service too!!

Food is consistently amazing! And the staff are super attentive, especially to low water glass levels!

I had a horrible experience tonight at Khao San Road. You can pretty up your tiles but the real change has to start within-with kindness, empathy and treating people well. Nothing matters more, even great food. Too many nonsensical strict rules, not enough goodwill and understanding. Wise up or you will lose more customers.
