Review Luci Restaurant - Toronto

Dave Elst
We had an amazing meal from a deal on Groupon and was very impressed with the service and the food. Everything was top notch. I had one gripe and that was it seemed to be almost impossible to get anyone on the phone when we would call for a reservation. Now I still think it's five stars because of everything else but still irritating to be playing phone tag. Don't hold it against Luci though because everything else was flawless!

Came here for a Groupon I purchased. I tried calling 10 times in the week to try to make reservations, but no one would pick up. Upon arrival the I suppose manager informed me to have left a message, fair I suppose they turn off the ring on their phone to keep the restaurant quiet. The service was great, our server was very polite and knew the dishes very well and answered all questions, as well as keeping tabs on us There was sooo much food. With the Groupon for 4 we got 3 salads 1 soup, 2 antipasti, 4 filling entrees, and barely had enough room for dessert, the complimentary bread was delicious as well as the olive spread it came with. The food was cooked well, and everything was delicious. It kind of sucks for the location they have, I’ve traveled to Queensway many times but have never seen this place. But it’s definitely worth the Groupon.

Absolutely loved everything here. Started with a caesar salad (not pictured) which was good. The plate was warm, wilting the romaine a little, but the flavour was good. Croutons and real bacon were a plus! Next we had calamari, which was half fried and half grilled. Loved tasting both, next time i would do all fried. It was exceptional, not at all chewy, fried to perfection - golden color. The grilled was a bit more chewy, but still very good. Our mains were linguine pescatore- which she loved. Mine was grilled shrimp, also loved. Presentation was great, and tasted just as good as it looked. The star was dessert. Mine was pavlova, hers cheese cake. The pavliva melted in my mouth, the cheesecake was creamy and full of flavor. I will be going back, soon!!

Excellent service and good food. The servers were very accommodating and the food was perfect! Great place for date night.

I got the seabass, which tasted good but I wish it came deboned, as some other reviewers' had. Two of my family members got the filetto, which was not well seasoned and too tough to be a filet mignon, as some other reviewers had noted. They both thought that Chuck's Roadhouse steaks were better. It seems that this place gets a lot of its customers from Groupon, and at Groupon prices it is cutting corners in order to not lose too much profit. A regular priced filet mignon from another fine dining place we ate at the following week was incomparably better. We all found the salads to be very fresh and delicious (mine was the mista). The desserts were tasty and good quality. Not the best I've had at an Italian restaurant, but above average. The 4.6-star average rating for this place mostly likely comes from Groupon customers who don't know what true Italian fine dining is. A 4.4-star restaurant close to Square One is far better.

I chose Luci for a special dinner (this was before covid!) with a friend after getting great reviews from my family members. Although the menu has quite pricey items, the staff were very friendly, warm and caring. They kept coming by to ask if everything is good. The ambiance of the restaurant is very relaxing and it is the perfect place for a special occasion or a romantic night out. I ordered shrimp as my main course as recommended by the waiter. It was tasty and cooked to perfection. My favorite dish was dessert which was a white chocolate cheesecake. When making my reservation I had mentioned the occasion and to my surprise, the waiter came forward with a candle on the cheesecake (which I was not expecting). Bonus points to the restaurant for that simple gesture. I found parking quite a hassle but I would come back to Luci nevertheless as I loved everything from the ambiance to the food quality to the service.

Amazing meal at Lucis!! The service was impeccable and every course was amazing. I recommend the steak which was cooked to perfection and the Creme Brule was sublime. The staff were very friendly and I would definitely come back again. Thank you for an amazing evening!!

The service was amazing! The food was just marvellous. Would recommend this place to everyone. But i really want to point out that the service in this place is out of this world! Never been treated so well in a restaurant.

I recently went to the Luci restaurant with 3 of my friends. Luci restaurant is clean with a nice decor and good ambiance. There's enough space between tables to ensure privacy and the noise level is quite acceptable. The menu is excellent and varied although their pasta dishes are a bit overpriced without a Groupon voucher. Pasta is pasta after all. Just like rice is rice. Service is pretty good with attentive wait staff, and the cute Asian looking busboy alone is worth the visit. A few things need improvement however. The restaurant entrance is not fully accessible and a ramp would be welcome for people with mobility restrictions as one of my handicapped friends experienced. Also, there was a funny smell in the vestibule downstairs by the washrooms I visited twice during that evening and which could easily be resolved with some Febreze scented oil and better air circulation. Otherwise, we had a wonderful evening and would certainly go back.

We went there last night as my brother had gifted us the groupon for my birthday. This is truly a hidden gem and I highly recommend. You could order 4 courses anything off the menu included in the groupon (I had the filet mignon and it was cooked to perfection!) also, all of their desserts are made in-house. Our waiter and the others who helped made our stay memorable - his name was Lucil I believe. The service was impeccable, thank you!

The service and food is fantastic. Celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and the evening was perfect.

Good service good food - that's all I ask & that's what I got - will return after a few months... the drive was long, that was the only con :) everything else was a pro - including the free parking after 6pm...didn't hurt that we got a parking spot just steps outside the restaurant!

Absolutely amazing dinner at Luci with my family! The food and service were among the best I've ever had, and the ambience was absolutely beautiful! This was our first time dining at Luci, and it will definitely not be our last. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

By far one of the best restaurants in the GTA. Love everything about this place.

My wife and I have been there for the first time for an anniversary and we’ll definitely come back. All food was delicious and masterfully plated and the service exquisite. Prices are really good as well and if you get the groupon it’s even better. Highly recommend

As you entered the place you are welcome by the delightful decor.<br/><br/>The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering items.<br/><br/>I had the Ceasar salad which was excellent, the lettuce was fresh and the bacon was also made fresh, my wife had the Insalata Rucola E Bietola which also looked fresh.<br/><br/>Both of our main courses were very good, I had the veal chop (bit salty) but still very good. <br/><br/>The wine selection is certainly sufficient and very reasonably priced.<br/><br/>Overall very pleasant evening. Highly recommended.<br/><br/>Service was exceptional from taking our coats on arrival until the end.

We come across a gem ... If you are looking for great food this is the place to go ...Small but great atmosphere great service ... We will definitely be going back ...

Have heard a lot about this restaurant and was absolutely disappointed.  Prices unreasonable for salads out of a jar, could barely eat my main dish which was fish due to bones.  Sides to main dish over cooked and mushy like they had been sitting.  Service slow at times, not very attentive.  Tables too close together dispite there was a whole other side to the restaurant that was empty and in the dark.  No music or ambience.  I work hard for my money, as we all do, and am so disappointed to spend on a meal I could have done better on my own.
Mary Tsai-Corindia
Delicious Italian food. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Came here because of groupon deal. The service was a bit slow but overall good experience. Will I come here again without a groupon? May be...

Great meal and evening. I had the salad, calamari and antipasti board to start. The grilled calamari was especially nice. For the main, I had the mushroom risotto with veal cheeks. Amazing. Make sure to get extra Parmesan on top! Will definitely return.

Private Family Event. We spoke with the owner Fernando and he arranged a beautiful closed family dinner that was private and comfortable outside regular business hours. As we were planning from out of town and had never visited the restaurant, Fernando promptly answered our multitude of emails and phone calls. We felt at home as we enjoys our wonderful meal with very attentive waitstaff and the owner himself. We had a wonderful time, it atmosphere was quite and ambiance was soothing as most of our guests were older family members. Thank you so much Luci for taking the uncertainty and stress out of this family dinner.

Amazing Private Function. We selected Luci as the venue to host my son's first communion for 30 guests in the private room. We were extremely content with the exceptional food, service and ambience. Fernando and his staff exceeded our expectations - paying attention to the needs of our guests. Our friends and family were so well attended to! The quality, taste and presentation of the food were amazing! Thank you to Luci and all the staff for such a wonderful event! We look forward to celebrating many, many more occasions with Luci in the future...top notch!!!!

Family Dinner. I decided to take my family out to dinner tonight and thought to try Luci, as I read the reviews. Great décor and the service was lovely to start until they got busier. The food presentation was nice however, none the meals we ordered were tasty. The meals were all bland. My sister had the special which was a fish dish, and it came with the bones still attached to the fish! The sea bas was deboned with great fanfare, but there were still bones in the fish. The calf liver was tender and moist (as I wanted it well done, so they certainly know how to cook it properly), however, it was bland even with black pepper. I tipped the server 18% as she was terrific, but I won't be coming back to this place as for the prices they charge, you would except the food to be tasty.

Enjoyable outing for New Years eve. I took my girlfriend out to this location for New Years because we have tried it with a group on before and it was a great experience. This occasion was no exception to that, if anything better. We planned ahead and booked reservations for 5pm (when they open) on New Years eve. They had a very nice special which my girlfriend took and I chose to start with the Mista salad and then have the Tagliata which was the 12oz triple AAA steak. Both our meals were amazing, and my girlfriend still raves about it. Cooked to perfection, there wasn't any real complaints at all with the meal. My steak was done to my liking, basically falling off the bone with tenderness and the sauce was delicious. And of course the waiters were very inviting and personable, offering to help us with our coats and making regular check ups to make sure everything met our standards.<br/><br/>Fair warning though: If you are looking for a quick bite, this place is definitely not for you. This restaurant is a primary spot for having a nice outing with loved ones that you can spend time talking and then later just enjoy the meal and not just enhale it down. Take your time, enjoy the company of your friends and family, and enjoy the ambiance. Also, not a cheap place in terms of prices either. A place meant for special occasions or a really fancy date night. I'd go any chance I can take.

Great Italian food and friendly service. My family has been to Luci a few times and have always had a great experience. The staff is warm and welcoming and make you feel like you are a part of their family. The food is delicious and the portions are a fare size. We always have an enjoyable dinner experience.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful dinner at Luci a few weeks ago and I just wanted to say thank you for the experience! The service was beyond perfect! I can't even describe how welcoming and attentive our server was. The appetizers, entrees and desserts were very well timed. The food was extremely delicious. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal and we will be coming back for more. I was initially worried because of other reviews complaining about the horrible timing between courses, however, we did not experience this. I hope others read this and feel encouraged to dine here as it is truly a gem!

I love Luci. Wonderful evening. Went with family group of 6, were greeted like we were friends. Superb service, lovely waitress (tres gentille) and wait staff, super lovely to my 93 yr old mother. Everything everyone ordered was just perfect. Desserts were amazing even homemade ice cream! Relaxed atmosphere, not stuffy, great background music. Introduced to it from Groupon, but will be going regularly, now.

Groupon users beware. Some positive, some negative. Staff were friendly and accommodating, they were nice with my 3 and 5 year old and allowed us to use two four course vouchers together on a Tuesday at 5:30pm. I figured it was worth a shot asking as it was early enough and on a weekday. First we arrived at 5:30pm, only left at 9pm, did I mention I had a 3 and a 5 year old! I apologize to any other customers that were there I was hoping to be leaving the restaurant by 7pm. The wait time between courses was ridiculously long, even after commenting before we got our first course that it was taking too long for food to come out and asking if things could be sped up. The food was all decent although there was clearly some frustration on the faces of some wait staff that my 3 year old wouldn't sit down any longer after 2 hours at the table, go figure. Our first hint of trouble was the mention that specific menu items were included as part of the Groupon options (even though they had been used in the calculations towards the total amount of what you could be getting). Being a groupon taxes were extra and having a larger group gratuities were also automatically added on, fair enough. The shock came when the amount of the bill they presented was equal to the total value of the Groupon. Here is how it worked out, $239 value x 2 = $478 this was the amount taxed and calculated for automatic gratuities, totaling $134 (even though we couldn't get to this amount based on specific menu items not being available). As it was already so late and my kids should have been in bed an hour earlier I paid and left. After totaling the food items we got at the table our actual total would have come out to $390.50. Beware if you are using a groupon there will be a bill at the end.

Decent food depending on whether you can wait.... This is a delayed review, but I was very disappointed with this restaurant. We arrived (with reservations) @ 7 PM on a Saturday when the restaurant was not very busy. The restaurant slowly got busier, but we did not expect the wait for food to be so long. All the dishes took longer than necessary to be served and there were long delays between the dishes. Our entrees were not served until past 9:20 PM. On top of that, my bf specifically asked for "Rare" steak and he ended up going "Well no wonder they took so long, they cooked it to well done!" My fish which was pleasantly "de-boned" for me unfortunately was not fully "de-boned" and fortunately the bone I accidentally consumed was tiny. The server even made a joke about what his name was depending on whether or not I found any bones... which I did. To be fair, I felt the food was decently tasty, but the wait for such food and prices is absolutely ridiculous. If it wasn't my birthday and the fact that we just wanted to get out of there so we could get on with our other plans for the night, we would have definitely spoken with the manager.

Excellent Wedding Rehearsal Party. We recently reserved the private dining room at Luci for a wedding rehearsal party for 24 people. Everything was outstanding. Fern from Luci worked closely with us to plan the event and everything turned out perfectly. From the minute we walked in the door and ordered cocktails, the servers were very attentive. Everyone was served their meal at the same time, portions were large and food delicious. We had a pre-arranged menu with a main course selection of chicken, salmon, risotto or pasta. We had a light fruit desert which was great on its own and we also brought in our own special cake that the staff cut and served for us. We couldn't have been happier with the quality of the food and service for this special event.

The servers were friendly and the food was lovely... However, we did feel like our table wasn't as attended as the tables around us... We saw couples that had come and left before we even got our entrees. I will stress though, that the owner was gracious, and when the servers did come 'round they were friendly, and the food was excellent.

I was looking for a restauraunt on Mother's Day I had been to with my daughter. I thought it was Luci. As we entered I realized it wasn't what I was looking for. We decided to stay. We were told it's a buffet. The chicken was overcooked and dry, the salmon was dry. One choice of potatoes dripping in fat. Very disappointed. My bill for 3 buffet plates $140.00!!!!!! Oh and they gave me a browning rose with the stem broken. Never again!!!!!

Wedding Bliss. I celebrated my wedding at Luci on March 23, 2013. I worked with Fernando to create a 5 course wine pairing meal for my 15 guests that was exquisite. The creatively prepared food, intimate atmosphere and wonderful service made our wedding dinner memorable. We were treated like family.

Just got back from the most lovely evening at luci. It was our first time and we were treated like VIP from the moment we entered till the moment we left. The food was amazing-fresh and flavorful and delish. We will be frequent patrons of luci and their entire hospitable staff. Keep up the good work :)

Disgustingly. We came to this restaurant on Saturday at 5 pm. - my husband, my daughter and me. My husband ordered a Crispy roasted half chicken (very tiny) but nice. He was lucky that day. However, my daughter was not. She ordered salmon and fries. Fries were overdried and she, who loves fries ate only a half of them. But the worse was salmon. It was not fresh and smelled like it was rotten. She refused to eat it at all. I ordered Grilled fresh Atlantic Salmon with Panzanella salad served with green cous-cous according to the menu. The salmon was a little bit better than my daughter's, salad consisted of two pieces of fried cucumber, some pieces of tomato, four or five pieces of white bread (like croutons but soft), two dry pieces of beet. So, it was not tasty at all. Well, we paid $90 for disgusting food and left this repulsive place hungry and disapoited.

A fantastic dinner with reasonable prices. Great quality food with a fine dining atmosphere. Owner was a gracious host and server very attentive .Very excited to find this new gem close to home and will be sure to visit again soon !

Great spot for a romantic birthday dinner. My partner got the fixed price menu (3 course meal for $25) and I went a la carte. He can be very picky with food and his meat was cooked perfectly. I am vegetarian and they were very accommodating. They also put a candle in my creme brûlée and sang me a happy birthday song. Highly recommend this spot to anyone!!

Love Luci!. My husband took me here for my birthday and what a special dinner it was! So glad he made a reservation because the place was PACKED (went on a Saturday night, around 7:30pm). <br/><br/>I had the carrot soup to start and the gnocchi as the main. It was quite good, though a little rich for me. To be fair, I don't usually order cream-based pastas, so I probably shouldn't have ordered it. My husband on the other hand got the Gnocchetti Sardi with smoked chicken, roasted peppers, caramelized onions... WOW it was fabulous! I probably "sampled" half of his plate because it was so good! Although I'm a huge pasta fan, it isn't often that a pasta dish will knock my socks off like that. We both shared the chocolate truffle cake which was very yummy too.<br/><br/>Because it was so busy, the service was a little slow, however the waitress did come over a couple times to apologize and we both received complimentary glasses of wine because our meals were taking a long time to arrive. Neither of us complained or asked for it, but it was very nice of them to take care of us like that.<br/><br/>Judging by how busy it was, I'm assuming that word has spread about this restaurant. I'm glad, and hope it stays on the Queensway.
Mina
Love. I just came back from dinner at Luci's with some friends. One word...WOW! <br/>Beautiful atmosphere, welcoming staff, wonderful food and delicious desserts.<br/>I had the ceasar salad for my appetizer, I found it strange to have extra dressing on the side but I actually like the idea! Most places either put too much dressing, some places not enough so having extra dressing definitely gives you the option for more if wanted (even though it was perfect the way it was).<br/>I had the pollo arrosto for my meal, which was perfectly cooked and juicy in every bite. <br/>I was so full after my meal because I nearly licked my plate it was so good but I couldn't leave without trying the dessert. I mean it must be amazing since everything else was so perfect!<br/>To no dissappointment, the dessert topped off a wonderful meal. I ended the night with a coffee and a creme brulee!<br/>I will definitely be back to Luci! I'm sure the staff there will call me a regular soon enough :)

Luci Restaurant Etobicoke. Sad disappointment on the Queensway. Reservations were for 7:00. Our table of 4 were there by 6:50. Service was very slow.Main courses came after a 2:00 hour wait.! And only after speaking to our server twice and finally making the manager aware of the situation. His reponse was very unprofesssional. My lamb finally arrived which was requested to be medium rare. After two hours it could have been cremated but it was seriously under cooked, almost raw. Note to self and anyone interesting, there are too many other reataurants in the Etobicoke who deserve and appreciate our patronage." Luci...you have some shplainning to do."
Francine Ross
Caesar salad is soaking in a way too much creamy dressing. So why add a extra serving of that same dressing in the plate???? Service was too quick. As soon as our salads were taken away, our main course showed up. Even our server apologize for being served so soon. The salmon dish was excellent but be ready to enjoy a very spicy meal.

Surprised by the love for this place. Quite honestly, I am shocked by this place's high approval rating, not to mention that it received a very solid 3 out of 4 star review in the Toronto Star. I certainly consider myself a very fair and easygoing amateur restaurant critic but I found a LOT wrong with Luci Restaurant. I'm not even sure where to begin, but I'll try to go through it all as best I can, drawing upon my own orders as well as those of my dining companions.<br/><br/>The initial impressions walking in were quite positive, a decor that said upscale but not stuffy. My party was greeted warmly, promptly seated and offered water. Off to a good start. Sadly, the same level of service did not continue throughout the meal. While certainly polite, it would be a stretch to call our service attentive. We were asked if we wanted wine (which of course we did), though only once. Our glasses were refilled but we were never asked if we wanted a second bottle. Strange. Also there really was no "how is everything", other than perhaps once after our appetizers arrived. And there certainly should have been. <br/><br/>Two of us order the Caesar Salad ($9.50) and it was an embarrassment. The salad itself was very small, which would have been fine had it not been so lacking. The flavour was nonexistent, to the point where they actually included small bowls of extra salad dressing on the side for some reason, as if to say "we know this may be bland, so feel free to add more dressing". I've never come across that. Not to mention the fact that both plates had perhaps two croutons each and three very small strips of shaved parmesan. But the worst part? The salad was wet. I mean they had not bother to dry the lettuce at all. Both suffered the same problems. <br/><br/>The Insalata di Rape Rose ($8.50 ) was much better flavour wise, but correct me if I'm wrong...doesn't that translate into "Beet Salad"? Well, much like the parmesan on the Caesar, the amount of beets was miniscule. The crab cakes ($12.00) were good, but again a major problem: there was a shell found inside. Choking or chipping a tooth is not something one expects while eating crab cake. <br/><br/>As for the mains, the problems continued. The Spaghetti Dal Mare ($22.00) tasted a little like chow mein. A filet mignon ($28.00) which was ordered medium well was quite clearly well-done. Not impressed. And the mashed potatoes that accompanied it were absolutely stone cold when they arrived. This was the one complaint we did make and at least did receive hot (if somewhat pedestrian) mashed potatoes. Happily for me the dish I ordered, the Fettucine di Nonna ($15.00), was delicious. A perfect blend of goat cheese, eggplant, tomato sauce and mint. It was the only real winner of the evening, so far as I was concerned. <br/><br/>The Creme Brulee ($9.00) was very tasty to be sure, but at that price not worth it. North 44's Creme Brulee is four dollars more and with it, you're in desert paradise. Luci's was just trip to Orlando by comparison.<br/><br/>Luci is really not an awful place, not by any measure. There were positives. But it's not a 3 out of 4, it's not a 90% on Urbanspoon place. It's not worth it for the price you're paying and even disregarding that, it's not a place I'll be back to anytime soon.
Bob
Mind-blowing noise and wait!. Staff shortage in the kitchen and/or wait staff lead to a two and a half hour noise fest coupled with an unmemorable meal served with a single vegetable too tough to cut with the outdoor BBQ steak knife - the only knife for cutting the chicken. The longer patrons waited, the more bottles of wine were served and the louder the talking noise became. What a shame following the excellent write-up when no one was prepared for the crowd.<br/>Never again!

Oh my goodness. I have never written a review before. In fact, I just created an Urban Spoon account entirely on the back of the meal I just had at Luci's. I am a self-professed foodie and the meal I just experienced was incredible in every detail. Myself and my dinner companion between us enjoyed the soup of the day, beef carpaccio, gnocchi in braised chicken, chicken Piccata, chocolate truffle cake and white chocolate cheesecake. We both tasted each of the dishes we ordered and while I wasn't crazy about the beet soup, my friend who ordered it really enjoyed it. And that is the only place I can say I wasn't entirely enthusiastic, and as someone who really likes good food, I can be notoriously hard to impress. The carpaccio was melt in my mouth tender and I could actually taste the truffle oil. There are places that list truffle oil or truffle foam etc. on the menu and then don't really deliver. That was NOT the case here. The flavours all balanced perfectly and just really brought out how well the dish was executed. The Gnocci was clearly freshly made with none of the doughiness that is sometimes encountered in Gnocci that has been commercially prepared. The braised chicken sauce was unbelievable and infused the soft Gnocci with an incredibly rich flavor. My friend's chicken was juicy, not dry as can sometimes be a danger with really delicate cuts of chicken. The dessert was of course unparalleled, creamy but not sickeningly so; I was able to taste the white chocolate flavour in the cheesecake and the consistency was light enough that the mouth feel did not overpower the flavour. The chocolate cake was served with a uniquely full-bodied whipped cream. Even the decaf coffee was out of this world and freshly brewed and I can tell you that coffee is not usually the thing I notice at a meal. Beyond the sheer perfection of the food itself, the ambience was comfortable and the space felt really warm. But nothing compared with the service and hospitality of our host, Fernando. An incredible, unforgettable evening. Worth creating an Urbanspoon account for. I would reccomend this place to anyone for any occasion.

Amazing Value! Mouth Watering Food!. If you are looking for a restaurant to host your next party, or to simply get out and have an enjoyably delicious meal with a loved one or friend, this is it! Loved the quaint ambiance and modern flair that this restaurant has to offer. The food is home-cooking at its best! My girlfriend wants to go back already!
