Review Jacques Bistro Du Parc - Toronto

Richard Zhao
As soon as you walk in, you have just been transported from downtown Toronto to France. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Food taste amazing and I love how neatly they line up the vegetables on your plate. We had mussels to start and what a start that was. Fresh, citrusy, savoury, makes you want to consume every last drop of the sauce, which you are encouraged to (your friendly waiter/waitress will keep bringing over bread, they understand). My salmon was amazing and cooked to perfection. Superb job to these guys!

They shouldn't remove the fat from the bone since is so tasty, but I guess that's what they do in fancy restaurants, anyway it was raw inside so we had to wait again another 30 minutes, the vegetables had zero salt or sauce... The onion soup wasn't impressive. At least they gave us a dessert on the house because of the raw lamb chops, that was actually the best dish.

Wow! This experience was absolutely amazing. The staff here were super friendly and helpful. I ate here three meals in a row and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. The lamb chops here were honestly the best thing I ever ate. If you are ever in Toronto, then definently go here.

The experience here was by far one the best dining experiences I had. Not only was the food incredible ( the best French onion soup! And the muscles are so filling and delicious! ), the portions were large and the service was excellent, attentive and friendly from the moment you open the door to the moment they wave you goodbye by holding the door open for you. On top of all this it was one of the few times my wife and I received the same service as everyone else, no side glances or being rushed out the door and no purposeful lack of service because we are a female couple. This is by far a favourite of ours now and will be a regular spot. The combination of old school service and old world French cuisine is a most try!!

Best French restaurant in the city, nothing pretentious about this place despite being in the middle of Yorkville. This is family owned, from France. Interior is like a local bistro somehwere on the side streets of Paris. Food is absolutely divine and service is SO friendly. Truly a hidden gem.

Must try the French Onion Soup. Definitely best in town!!!

This was truly a great experience. I wish I had taken photos of the food, but believe me when I tell you that it was fantastic. We shared the daily soup (carrot and ginger), which was rich and filling. We then shared the bistro salad (apples, greens, walnuts), which was fresh and light. And, for our main, we shared a ham, cheese and mushroom omelette...because everything was so good, we finished the meal off with a lovely dessert (ile flottante). The service ranked among the top five that I've ever experienced. Ever. The staff were all so friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere will make you feel like you're dining in France. I can't wait to go back.

My husband and I had an amazing evening at Jacques. We both had the escargots to start which were delicious (with warm baguette to get all the sauce). Our mains, the filet mignon and the veal were very tender and full of wonderful flavour. Service was impeccable and the atmosphere was very cosy and romantic . On our way out had a great conversation with the owner, lovely lady who made us feel so welcome. Best dinner out that we’ve had in a long time. We will definitely be going back!

Classic tasty French meal

We enjoyed wonderful service and quintessential tasty French food prior to attending a nearby live show! We were only sorry we did not have enough time for dessert . We will definitely return to enjoy the full experience!

We always include a visit to Jaques Bistro du Parc when we come to Toronto from Rochester. We enjoy the cozy, welcoming atmosphere, but we come for the food! We were a party of 4 and enjoyed the asparagus soup, french onion soup, escargot for starters. For entrees, we loved the steak au poivre, filet mignon, and scallops, and veal. Did I mention the bread? Excellent! As always they treated us in a manner that made us feel special

We went there for brunch. My first time. From the time we entered everything was really very good. Excellent service and ambiance. The soup de jour and omelette were excellent as was the daily special quiche. Absolutely recommended.

We had been a frequent visitor to this restaurant. It is small and the seating is uncomfortable. The bread is fantastic. The omelettes are very good. The rest of the food offering is average, at best. The owners and staff all speak French as do I. However, they are a snobby lot. My wife took a friend for lunch there a few weeks ago. The service was very poor. My wife, being the lady that she is, did not complain but was persistent is asking for a coffee that never came. Her guest received her coffee. The waiters walked away mumbling something or other. Eventually, Madame came to the table, placed her hands on the edges and proceeded to berate my wife in a loud voice. My wife left a tip and paid the bill. I wrote a respectful letter after the experience simply asking about my wife's experience and asking the proprietor if they would like us as ongoing customers. I have received no response; neither a telephone call nor a letter and no apology for the poor service and bad behaviour of Madame. We will NEVER go back to this place and I urge the readers to follow my lead.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR EVENING - there are FAR better french restaurants for the pleasure and your money. Where to start. It is weak at best - mediocrity disguised behind Parisienne accents. The wait for our table (made a rez and still waited over 10 minutes), left us standing in the centre of the cramped space, obtrusively above other people's tables and repeatedly shuffled about so that the waiters could pass by us. Then... I was told on the phone I was getting this lovely table at the window overlooking the park...erase the image that comes to mind. The "lovely" window was like sitting at a 70's doctor's office window. The "view" was just our reflection caused by the glaring pot light directly above my head (actually had a spider thread hanging from it - I felt like I was about to be interrogated)! Seriously, Madame et Monsieur, you can't charge 34 dollars for Filet Mignon and make your clients walk past an open closet with a dirty vacuum cleaner and a jumble of racks to get to a washroom straight out of a soviet block apartment - replete with dirty plunger in full view! Our guests actually made a joke about the bathrooms and that joke took us to hilarity about the entire experience - it was like something straight out of Faulty Towers. The food - yeesh, boring at best, Hy's steak style seasonings and 80's style presentation. Toronto is a foodie haven, there is no need to wast an evening here.

Nice little place in Yorkville. It's a classic French restaurant without the pretension in a very small and slightly dated location. It's on the second floor so look up if you're looking for this place. This place gets busy and packs up quickly with locals and tourists. The omelet was very good paired with the most perfect looking vegetables. I don't like omlets but I liked this one, probably because it was cooked properly. The French onion soup was pretty good and so was the complimentary bread.

Service was extremely friendly.

Great peaceful atmosphere, excellent service. Good standard Canadian 'French' food. Well prepared, good quality but nothing that will blow your culinary mind. A great place for a peaceful family dinner.

A great catch. This is a well hidden gem in Yorkville. Food is authentic, great quality and awesome people. Its a bit pricey but totally worth it. Definitely going back

My partner and I left this restaurant very disappointed tonight. We stopped in for a quick dessert and coffee because we are huge French food enthusiasts. I am a chocolate mousse finatic and my partner was quite interested in the Creme caramel. When we arrived the waiter checked with his supervisor and we were denied a table because we were not planning to eat a full meal (which we were kind enough to be upfront about). They had more than one empty table and made no mention of reservations, it was 10 pm on a Thursday evening and they had several customers eating so we would not have prevented them from closing.

They denied our patronage, and refused a 6 month pregnant woman's dessert craving, which is a sin in itself!

We have been to many fine French restaurants in Toronto (our favourite is Didier) and if we had enjoyed our dessert and coffee we would most certainly have returned for a full meal.

Now we will not go there, I have been inspired to write this scathing review and we will also tell our friends not to go there.

Amazing place!. The restaurant is absolutely lovely, the serving staff are so considerate and fun. The food is superb and reasonably portioned. If you are lucky enough to get a window seat, the view over cumberland street and the Rock makes you experience yorkville at its best.

Would love to go back there and recommend this restaurant highly to anyone.

Excellence. Absolute excellence. Warm atmosphere, great food and amazing service. Be aware that reservations can slip a bit, as my party was seated ten minutes after our reservation, most likely due to the small size of the bistro, but the food more than makes up for that. A mixture of general French cuisine and omelettes, everyone was more than content with the food, and the desserts were stupendous. A great find in the heart of Yorkville!

I came here for dinner and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. My server looked very familiar and I was racking my brain trying to figure out where I know him from. It turns out we attended the same university and he was a few years older than me. What a small world.

There really is a Jacques. My server's parents are from France and have owned this wonderful little hidden gem in Yorkville for 36 years. I have walked by several times, but have never noticed this place. The restaurant has received many accolades from Zagat and Toronto Life Magazine and I can see why.

My server informed me that the french onion soup is among the best in the city and I opted for the dish, which didn't disappoint. It was hearty, chock full of cheese, and very delicious. I was quite hungry and also ordered the steak. The medium New York sterling silver striploin was accompanied with green peppercorn sauce and scrumptious fried potatoes and vegetables. As per the recommendation from a fellow Yelper, dessert was a must. So, I asked my server to kindly brown bag the steak, as it was quite a large meal. For dessert, my server recommended the lemon tart and he described it as eating a cloud. It was so delicious and the lemon was not too overpowering, as so many lemon tarts can be. It was fluffy and moist and just incredible! He also brought me a sample of the caramelized apple tart with warm sauce, which was also extremely delightful! All desserts are made in house.

I received wonderful service and it was nice to chat with a friendly former alumnus. I will definitely be returning for some authentic French food. The only thing that needs updating is the outdated decor, especially the wallpaper. Otherwise, the restaurant is very intimate and cozy. I highly recommend Jacques' Bistro du Park!

The room hasn't changed since I was a kid and neither has the food but on this occasion that is a good thing. Wife at the front, husband is chef and kids serve. All typical French food is cooked perfectly. Creamy omlets, winey mussels, cities best onion soup and a perfect tarte Tatin.

Do not plan anything for the rest of the day when you decide to go here (for lunch). Seriously, if you have lunch here count on wanting to kill the next three hours. And you should. Get the french onion soup and any omelette. Also, get a bottle of wine. Such a pretty little room. Perfect for a lovely date lunch. Just perfect. Old school Yorkville chic.
