Review Kit Kat - Toronto

Mike “Venom Ninja” Hilario
The food here is fantastic! This Italian rustic place is an amazing experience for all your senses. The decor is beautiful and homely. It's like your in little Italy. The waiting staff is very pleasant and friendly. Everything we ate was so flavourful and brightly presented. We enjoyed ourselves a lot. We will definitely come back here again.

Small and cozy bar/restaurant. The food was delicious, never had calamari that looked they way they did theirs. Wasn't too expensive. Good service, we were sitting by the front door so it was a bit chilly

A decent spot for family style Italian food. The food is not very exquisite but doesn’t taste too bad either. Pasta was great but other dishes were just okay. Beef carpaccio: very salty and oily. Part of the beef tasted frozen. There was also a sharp bitter taste in the bites. It’s supposed to be made with truffle oil but I couldn’t taste any truffle. Veal piccata: very mediocre family style dish Smoke duck angelhair: the pasta was very delicious! Perfectly cooked and favoured with lots of toppings. The smoke duck was delicious too.

A nice place to go after a show! :) Great atmosphere, ambience , waiters and cooks alike. It's a small restaurant, I suggest you make reservations and try their specials. We had a seafood pasta and a regular spaghetti and meat sauce and I totally wanted seconds if my stomach would have handled it. Great local place to eat!

Walk past the kitchen as you head to seating in the back and pass a real tree inside when heading downstairs (to the bathrooms). Overall an interesting atmosphere and the food was good! I had the Atlantic char, wife had the chicken parm. The only piece of critique was the fake Parmesan cheese in the shaker. Can’t have good food with that stuff, get some real Parmigiano-Reggiano!

Be aware of the biased / fake reviews! More importantly, customer with a pre-theater dinner voucher are treated much worse! So, avoid at any cost, especially if you have the theatre deal. We have first hand experience how the customer service quality changes when you tell the reason why you take pictures of their food (when asked, we told them that we are reviewers). Initially they didn't care about us, which was reflected in the slow and reckless service. But after the aforementioned comment, the manager kept stopping by our table to ask how things are going. Very strange. More importantly, we called in to tell them that we will be late by a couple minutes. The lady who we spoke with told us that we only have 1 hour to dine. So we had to be gone by 5:30pm. We were never told about this implicit rule until we called in about 20 before our reservation. The irony, however, is that the service is EXCEPTIONALLY SLOW. How are you supposed to eat in a hour if it takes them 10 minutes to bring the pre-theater menu, another 5 minutes to bring bread, 15 minutes to bring the appetizers, another 20 minutes to bring your main dishes, and another 15 minutes to bring the dessert? In sum: - Customer service is lacking and not genuine. 1 / 5 - Food tastes horrible. 0 / 5 - Speed of service is worst. 0 / 5 - Phone line call. Worst. 0 / 5 Overall, a horrible experience. We will add this to our list of "banned restaurants".

Extremely busy little restaurant, but if you make a reservation it is well worth the short wait. These guys know there business and surprisingly remember faces even if you only visit every so often. Which makes you feel like a VIP. The resturant had a cozy atmosphere that allowed you to carry on conversations at your table without having to scream at the person sitting across from you. The service was exceptionally great, the food even better and the wine list, yet not overly extensive paired well with the food being served.

Celebrating daughter's birthday on Sunday and had a wonderful time. The staff is amazing and made her day very special. The food is delicious and flavorful and the service impeccable. The magnificent tree inside the restaurant is truly a spectacular site. Definitely would go back to try the other dishes.

This place was absolutely awesome - and that would be an understatement. My family and I visited on probably one of the busiest days of the year - Valentine's Day. The experience was absolutely Legendary. Owner John is a culinary virtuouso. Food was plentiful, exquisite - and on time. Grilled calamari was to die for. Service was beyond Epic. Not sure how they do it - but we were visited by no less than five staff during our meal - including owner John. Felt like I was a real celebrity. Two days later, my family and I are debating as to whether this was perhaps our greatest culinary experience ever. If you are visting Toronto, this is a "must visit."

My fabulous lady friends and myself were there for dinner April 14th. Had such a great experience! Our server, Tate was amazing! He owner stopped by to say Hi and chat. The food was delicious, wine was yummy. We were the guests to leave (sorry...) but before leaving the owners treated us to a shot! Thanks for the great hospitality, good service and delicious food! We will be back!

The service was fantastic! But the food it was Amazing! The atmosphere was also some of the best that I have been in! This tiny spot is a jewel and a must stop by when you are in the area. I will definitely be back!

Great food and a varied menu. Our group had ribs, roasted chicken, and lamb chops. All very tasty. Owner/manager and server, Tate, were very attentive.

An Icon of the Entertainment District in Toronto Al Carbone serves up amazing meals & hospitality. From A list celebrities to everyday people he treats everyone like a star no matter who you are. So far I've tried the pasta which is awesomely delicious & the veal lamb chops, now that's an Italian Classic. The Salmon is mouth watering but if you are into steak he's got the ribeye. Chef Carl Dahl can do it all. Full bar & compliment of fine wines. You feel at home definitely with this kind of hospitality. Highly recommended.

Exceptional food, service and ambiance. We have gone here on a number of occasions and they never disappoint.

This is my go to spot for pre show meals. I've actually never had a bad meal here and the service is always spot on, whether I sit at the bar or a table. I like eating at the bar here, as the tables at the back can be a little too cozy in busy times, otherwise, come after the shows let in, and you'll have a more relaxed experience. They always make sure you get out in time if you have a show to make. The hospitality I've experienced from every person who works there has been excellent. I appreciate that the owner remembers me from a conversation we had several years back. Delicious and hospitable - great combo!

Awesome place busy hopping small and food is always great!! Definitely worth going………

Johnny is a great host, the food is outstanding and the waitstaff is spot on. A must visit when in Toronto

Disappointed and frankly upset at their shady business practices. I ordered a dish that was posted on their big "Daily Specials" board. It was a pasta dish with "BEEF TENDERLOIN" as the main ingredient. This is what I told the waitress I wanted, and she verbally confirmed it.... "beef tenderloin". Well when the dish arrived (several of us had ordered it) we commented among ourselves that we've never seen white beef cubes in a dish. How is beef white meat? It tasted ok, but just what was it? So we called the waitress over and she went to the kitchen to find out.... and comes back to tell is it's "CHICKEN" because they had run out of the beef tenderloin. WTF??? Isn't it customary to come and advise a guest that the dish they ordered wasn't available, or do you just substitute a cheaper meat and hope nobody will notice? And to top off the insult, there was NO PRICE ADJUSTMENT from the posted BEEF PRICE!!!! As I was with a large group of friiends (11 of us) I didn't make a scene, but I can assure you WE WILL NOT BE COMING BACK, nor would I ever give this place a positive recommendation. Sure the service was good, what they provided was tasty enough, and the ambience is ok, but when you walk out feeling cheated at the end of your meal, well what tasted good ends up leaving a bad taste in your mouth. Nuff said!!!!

Visiting from Cleveland, OH and this was one of my favorite places we visited. The service was exceptional and the food and wine were outstanding. The atmosphere was perfect and exactly what we were looking for. The whole experience could not have been any better! If we are ever in the area again we will definitely be back!!!!

We were there Dec 13th with our nephew and fiancee to celebrate their engagement. Our party of six were treated like royalty. Champagne, wine and single malts afterwards, all priced very reasonably. Food was delicious and very ample servings. We were all treated with a digestive on the house near the end of evening. John and the staff were very attentive. My wife and I leave in Hudson, Quebec and always make a point of visiting Kit Kat whenever visiting TO and love it.

We usually come every other month before seeing a show and we love it every time ! Amazing food great service and the owner Al and his staff are just fantastic . We just ate here last Friday . You need to make a reservation especially if you are seeing a show to guarantee a table . It's our go to spot ! Thanks for always a great experience .

Atmosphere was amazing, food was fabulous, and service was spectacular!

Great place !

Yes, yes, yes the place is small but it is super compensated with great service and great attention to detail from all the team. Been there many times and is always a great experience !

My friend and I came here a few weeks ago for his birthday. This was our first time coming here as we were visiting Toronto. I loved the atmosphere of this place and the staff were very friendly and attentive! The food was delicious and I really enjoyed the sangria too. I would love to come back sometime.

I can’t say enough great things about Kit Kat. The atmosphere is fantastic- cozy, quirky, and such a unique feel that is totally lost in chain restaurants. The living tree (touch it for good luck) that grows through the roof of the building is just on of the touches that makes dining at Kit Kat a special experience.

We ordered two appetizers, a main each, and a dessert each. All dishes were superb, tasting fresh and flavourful. Jackie, our waitress, was phenomenal. She was fast, efficient, and extremely professional ( not to mention personable). I strongly recommend Kit Kat as your go to downtown Toronto Italian restaurant. And don’t forget to try the crème brulée- yum!
Nick Strilchuk
The food was great. Service was amazing. You gotta eat here if you are looking for Italian food. I would not go anywhere else for high quality Italian food.
P Timo
Great food, prices and service! I love this place and so do my Colleagues. I went on this app for the first time and saw some bad reviews which makes no sense. Some people are always looking for something to complain about. This is not a Michellin Restaurant folks so if you're looking for good Italian food at a reasonable price for a downtown location you will be satisfied. The owners are Italian and care about their customers without doubt.

Arrived at the restaurant and we were seated very quickly. That's where the good experience ceased. We were harassed about sparkling water, appetizers, salads, when all we wanted to begin with was a drink. When we finally got served our drinks, they were not what we had ordered. Another 5 minutes later someone came over to ask us if we would like a drink. We left. If I could have given a minus score I would have. AVOID.

Just recently went here during TIFF 2017. I took a seat at the street side, and even ordered with the waitress until the owner of the restaurant came out and asked us to sit at the bar and have our cocktails and dessert because apparently you can only eat entree's sitting in the freezing cold so your food can get cold! How stupid is this policy! I did not understand why we were being asked to go outside since the weather was not all that great and the waitress told us that it should be fine anyways due to that reason. The behavior from this restaurant owner was very unprofessional and plain rude. They did not have to ask us to go inside, especially when the weather outside was so bad that nobody wanted to sit out anyways! In fact, once we moved over to literally the next table that was part of the other restaurant next door to Kit Kat, we saw that they were losing many people who were sitting outside. I have never been asked to get out of my seat once seated and this act of asking someone to get up in front of others was so embarrassing especially since there were many other seats available. I rarely ever post a negative review, however, this act was so extremely hurtful that I just had to let others know about what this restaurant is capable of doing to anyone. I do not recommend going to this restaurant because you never know when you will be asked to vacate your seat and have it sit empty throughout the night. Horrible management!

Had the most bazaar restaurant experience here. And not in a good way.

I went to this restaurant with my father because we got the Mirvish Dinner Package. We made a 6:00 p.m. reservation in advance, and made it clear that we needed to be out of the restaurant to get to a show starting at 7:30 p.m.

We got to the restaurant 5 minutes late, however, I called along the way to say I would be late and I was told that it would not be a problem. Once we arrive, we were told that our table would be ready in "about 20 minutes". I explained to the host that we were concerned because we needed to leave by 7:15p.m. and he told us that that might not be possible, but told us to wait a bit to see when a table was ready.

About 5 minutes later, someone from the restaurant told me that he would allow us to sit at his table, but that there was a service dog. We were very hesitant about this, but as we were short on time, couldn't find an alternative table at another restaurant, and already pre-paid for our meal, we reluctantly agreed. The man showed us towards the table - past a narrow hallway of the restaurant busting with people, I am sure contrary to fire code. We got to the table and a rather large dog put his head on my lap as I went to sit down. I told the man that I was not comfortable having a dog on my lap as I ate, and he told me the dog would settle down. Then, the man processed to slide across from me into the booth before my father sat down. My dad then waited for the man to get out, assuming that he was just trying to settle the dog. After a moment when we realized the man was not leaving, we told him we were okay to calm the dog ourselves. He replied that this was his table and he would need to sit with us because it was his service dog. It was a small, intimate booth and the man expected to join us for dinner! This was absurd. We told him that this was unacceptable.

Neither the man nor any of the other employees or hosts expressed any apology. They did not take any responsibility for giving up our table and not keeping tables ready to guarantee reservations. We ended up needing to go to dinner at another restaurant and paying for it, not being able to take advantage of our pre-paid Mirvish special.

We were so confused by the experience and the lack of understanding or commitment to customer service from the restaurant.

I will certainly never return to Kit Kit. I did not try the food- but based on the customer service, the cluttered ambience, and the bazaar experience I strongly discourage others from going.

Went as part of Kinky Boot's package. Ambience: NIL. We were placed at a table beside the kitchen grill. I had to move each time servers and customers went by. Not a place for a table to be. Then one of the servers came by and told us to put our hands in the air. She then pushed the table in on my two friends almost spilling everything on the table. One of the three cooks was on his phone when we arrived. Phones are very dirty. As was one of the female servers. Our wine and salad were served almost instantly. Barely put fork down and plate was picked up. Next course brought and same thing. Felt VERY RUSHED. FOOD: Salmon good. Stuffed chicken was good. Pasta was terrible. Not enough for a child's portion. Very disappointed to say the least. Definitely would not recommend nor go again.

I went here before a play down the street. I made reservations . We missed our GO train from Hamilton but when I called they said they would try to fit us in at the later time.
Atmosphere- A really cute kitchy tiny location. Lots of tables, so many tables, too many tables. There is even a table in a narrow hallway along the bar - All filled when we arrived plus people waiting at the bar ( It was a Wednesday night!) We were asked to share a booth with another couple or we would not get to play in time. I had been there numerous times and it was totally worth it.
Food- This lace has ever disappointed me. They had 8 specials tonight. I picked the penne with smoked chicken, red peppers in a creamy rose sauce. Perrrrfect ( KitKat) The woman sharing our space said if she wasn't in public she would lick the bowl - It was that good. I had to agree with that. The others at the table had the penne in red sauce and spicy sausage, That diner said she always gets that particular dish because it is so good she craves it. The vegetarian dish of the evening was a ricotta spinach ravioli with red peppers and peas in rose. I tried one and it was so creamy and scrumptious. My next choice when i go back if it is the special. I also had the Caesar salad which came surprisingly without bacon or croutons. ( came with a small toast The sauce and shaved parmigiana did not need the bacon.
Service- This is where this place does not get my full marks. The young boy try as he might did not quite get it, He knew only half the specials and our requests for salad to come with meal ( time restricted) and separate billing were both missed as was the water that had to be requested. I know it was busy, but this place is always busy.
Impression- I will be back again. there is not doubt about that. I will catch an earlier train and request not to get the hall seat next time.

Great place and great food. Very homey and staff treat you like family. Going back tomorrow night again. Great selection of wines and other spirits.

Not impressed by any part of this restaurant! My friend picked this restaurant based on the two cats that were in the logo...not the best decision she made. So we ordered our food and wasn't impressed by the bread and butter that came to our table. For pastas with higher end prices, we were expecting fresh bread and butter. Instead, the break was ok and the butter was packaged....and as you can tell by the pictures, the place was beyond dim...just dark! The waitress was very busy...the food was very underwhelming as was the wine! We will most likely never return.

Excellent service, very accommodating for our party of 9 very hungry and thirsty people. Almost everyone ordered seafood pasta special. All very fresh even in the middle of January. Excellent ambiance and would highly recommend as a date night local especially if you are taking in a show!!
Jonas
It was ok. Came here with my girlfriend it wasn't the best. The beef carparccio was excellent some of the best I've ever had, my veal steak was somewhat good if you could get past the burnt dry char on the outside and my mashed potatoes kinda tasted old maybe from the day before lol. My girl's Mahi Mahi was over cooked and way over seasoned all you could taste was salt and her rice was nothing special. Our first server was nice polite and knowledgeable of the menu but after he left, our other sever seamed way too tired and ready to go home must have been a long day, but at least try to crack a smile. Also the atmosphere was nice good music but when one of the workers turned on the game for himself it kinda killed the mood fast. What a shame was hoping for a better experience.
Dave B
Cute little place and our waiter was a cool guy, but my wife and I both ordered seafood pasta. It was mediocre except the muscles were not fresh and going bad so didn't eat them. I mentioned it to the waiter to let the kitchen know for which he thanked me. However, I thought they could have done something more than giving us each a limmoncello. If you want a fast in and out for theatre going then it is par. But for great Italian food, go elsewhere.

Terrible Experience. I took my Mom for Mother's day as part of the Mirvish experience. I meant to write this review earlier but here I am 7 months later and this is still the worst experience I ever had at a restaurant. I made reservations as per the instructions on the voucher. We were placed at a table in the back between 2 sets of doors, ridiculous. Why not put us in the closet? If you looked up you could see dust everywhere which did not add to the ambiance. We were given the Mirvish menu, the mushroom soup was terrible...it was made up of flour chunks. The rest of the food also left a lot to be desired. The only thing that was edible was the tiramisu but by then all we wanted to do was leave. Our waitress was phony and I haven't had to use that word in ages. I don't know how this place is still open, hopefully no one wanders in during TIFF, that would be embarrassing for Toronto.

BUCKET LIST. What an UNBELIEVABLE experience!
W.O.W. There are no words to describe the quality and simply pure amazing flavours of each and every one of their distinct dishes.
Spectacular service, quality ingredients, comforting ambience...PERFECTION in every way. An absolute MUST DO.
Olivia Anderson
Awesome place! Food was amazing, atmosphere was great, prices were great for the quality of food you are receiving. Staff were wonderful too! Tables are very close together as it is a very tiny space but it made for great conversation with strangers. Walked in without a reservation and they did whatever they could to accommodate us, however I highly recommend making a reservation just to be safe.
Overall VERY impressed.

The food, atmosphere and ambiance was reminiscent of Italian authenticity to its roots. The owner greeted us almost immediately and the bar staff (Lindsay) was warm and welcoming. The food was fresh and second to none that we have ever had and was also reasonably priced. This 'too good to be true' dining experience unfortunately came to an end once we were seated. Our waiter was uninterested in explaining the specials and told us to read the boards and ask him about any terminology that we didn't understand. The food arrived fast and was hot and absolutely delicious. My husband ordered a glass of Merlot to have with his Seafood pasta special and it didn't arrive until we were finished eating. The waiter didn't acknowledge or apologize and was quick to dismiss us. After expressing slight dissatisfaction with this he seemed to avoid us. In the end, the atmosphere, food, owners and almost all staff was incredible. Unfortunately this one gentleman turned what was destined to be excellent experience into sub-par.

Diner from Calgary. The fabulous food was only overshadowed by the service, and in particular, the bar hostess Joanna.
Incredible fun atmosphere where the staff does make everyone feel welcomed and special.
If only all restaurants could bottle this special quality.

Great food, bad dessert. The food is great. But don't bother with the dessert menu.

Came on my own. In on business. Bought a ticket to see Les Misérables. So only have 1 1/2 hours for dinner. Saw reviews on Urbanspoon and decided to try Kit Kat. The curb appeal is spot on. I'm so glad I did! Welcomed by the owner right away. He made me feel right at home. They added a stool at the bar for me. Joanna, who serves at the bar, was friendly and her recommendations were right on. Food was delicious. Everything was fabulous! I agree: ignore the negative reviews!

Food was great! Grilled calamari, linguine pescatore and penne arrabiatta are fantastic!
Donna
OUTSTANDING! The food and service were excellent... easy to see why this is such a popular spot.We had spent the day moving into an apartment in the area and were too tired to cook. The KitKat was packed but the staff at the KitKat were able to arrange a table for us. We started with a drink at the bar and Joanna chatted about our day and welcomed us to the neighbourhood. Once we were seated at a booth, Al, the owner, stopped by to meet us and personally welcome us. The waitress checked right away to see if we were going to a show or the game (the Jays were in town) and would need faster service. We ordered the grilled calamari special and the insalata caprese to start - both very tasty. Ingredients were fresh -calamari was particulary tender and tasty. For the main courses we had the Fettuccini Alberto (so good that our son did not want to share!), Spaghetti Pescatore and a seafood pasta special - absolutely delicious.. was truly sorry that I didn't have room for dessert! Did top off our visit with KitKat and Irish coffees to round out our evening. We will definitely be back!

Absolutely Perfect!. My boyfriend and I stopped in Kit Kat for a late night meal tonight.
From the moment we sat down, I felt the sensual, warm, delicious vibe of the little restaurant. Our server was wonderful (I wish I knew her name ~ she deserves praise). She took the time to thoroughly go through the menu and specials with us, she checked on us just often enough, and she was very attentive. I could not ask for anything more than what she gave us.
We had the cheese bruschetta which was probably the best bruschetta that I have ever eaten. We were offered bread while we waited for our main courses, (our great server warned us that my choice would take some time). We appreciated the heads-up (though after our appetizer, it really wasn't a long wait - mind you it was not busy at the time). He had the cheese ravioli with vegetables (which was incredible), and I chose the Lemon Chicken. Every bite was simply perfection. The portions were generous ~ the prices were absolutely in-line with the quality of food. Everyone who was working was smiling and saying hello (as I walked upstairs from the washroom or when they passed by our table). The atmosphere was very comfortable and I felt as though everyone cared that we were having a nice time.
After our meal, we spoke with the manager who was very nice. Though we were the last couple to leave at the end of the night, there was no rush and everyone was smiling. To top off the experience, we were offered a yummy after dinner shot as we walked out from the manager. We made a wish on the lucky tree. :)

We walked out to be faced with a freezing rain storm in April but we both were in a great mood. (Funny how a nice meal and nice service can truly elevate one's mood).

I've eaten in many high-end restaurants in Toronto. I cannot speak about other servers at Kit Kat or what the restaurant is like on a busy night.... I can, however, say that the meal and the experience was one of the best that I've ever had.

I am disappointed in myself for having not visited Kit Kat sooner. The food, the ambiance, and the service was excellent. We will be back as often as we can.
I hope their restaurant can be saved by the proposed condo development planned for the site. It truly would be a shame to see it close.

http://www.saverestaurantrow.com/

Thank-you sincerely Kit Kat for a surprisingly wonderful evening.

Horrible Experience!. We were in Toronto for a long weekend and my son wanted Italian food. The doorman at our hotel recommended the Kit Kat Club. We walked there and thought it was very cute and quaint. We didn't have reservations, but were seated within about 10 minutes. It took at least 15 minutes for our waitress (Mary) to come over to us. When she did, she just stood there - never asked what we wanted, told us the specials, nothing. She had the worst attitude I have ever seen. We had to ask for bread and a refill on our drinks. Our food was good, but Mary never asked how everything was. I have never had such terrible service. She brought the bill and we had noticed that all the other tables had gotten suckers with their bills - of course Mary didn't bring us suckers. Needless to say, we will not be returning.

Food Decent, Good Atmosphere, Overpriced. Had appetizers, we had calamari, which proved delicious. For our entrees, we had the Fettuccine Alberto with four cheeses and cream, while my company had Angelhair Basilico tomato sauce & fresh basil. The Fettucine was good, but plain and felt overpriced. The Angelhair Basilico was again tasty, but again, felt too simplistic and overpriced. The service was mediocre, as we were ignored by the server most of the night. The atmosphere was nice, lively and well decorated. Would be excellent for a date night out.

Summary: The food was decent, but not for the price you are paying doesn't warrant it for the food alone. If you are someone who enjoys a lively/romantic atmosphere, book ahead of time and get a booth, where you'll be less cramped.
Shaghayegh Ghadery
Manners and attitude. Everything was great. I really liked the atmosphere and the food. The only bad thing was the rude and impatient waitress.
Hadi Azer
Over priced. Food so average. Space so tight. Would not recommend it, for the same money you can go to a killer Italian proper restaurant.
G
Great atmosphere. Generous portions, amazing atmosphere and a great location! Try any of the seafood dishes and the bruschetta is delicious!
Brittany Fernandez
Loved it! Had the calamari for starters, fettuccine Alberto for a main and the tiramisu for dessert. Willing to go back for the exact same dishes.
HotPink
Forget any negative reviews of this place! It was fantastic. Me and my date shared the Pasta Misto for 2, choosing the fettuccine alberto, penne sausage, and angelhair basilico. The penne and the fettuccine were to die for. Perfectly cooked al dente and perfectly seasoned. The service was great and the server Christine had a lot of personality. The only thing left to be desired was the garlic toast but what really can you do with that? The restaurant atmosphere was outstanding and had a true European feel including the cozy but comfortable size. The beer and wine is reasonably priced. A+ all around.

Awesome food. I recently visited this restaurant for Dinner with my friends. Its a very busy place that requires reservation and some wait. But the environment was very cool and servers were friendly. The menu had good selection of authentic Italian dishes. There was a special daily menu and ample options for vegetarians. All the entrees we ordered were well-cooked and really delicious. Also the quantity was more than enough. I ordered Tiramisu for dessert and it was good too. The prices were on a little higher side but the food was worth every penny. I would definitely visit again.

This place always gets very tender calamari, cooks it just right. Served with a rich sauce (wish I could remember what).

Ate here recently on a Monday night. Cute little place, and we sat right next to the window, nice romantic atmosphere. The manager was very inviting and welcomed us in warmly. Our server was a little quiet, not overly happy but knew her specials and everything very well. We were also approached by a few other servers which was a little weird but still appreciated. I had the lemon chicken dinner, came with grilled veggies an mashed potato. Chicken was crispy, a little bland but overall good. Veggies and potato were delicious. My boyfriend had the seafood pescatore which was delicious. We also shared the Creme brûlée which was average but still satisfying. I would come back again.
Kirsten
Cosy and fun. I really like coming here for a quick lunch or dinner before the theater. The room is always jumping and Al is a great restauranteur. Spicy sausage on penne is my husband's favorite. I usually stick to the fish specials. Today I had grilled vegetables and shrimps from the antipasto selection. Please note that this place is noisy and cramped but I think that is part of the fun.

Kit Kat Kool?. A favourite amongst many Torontonians. Good locale and nice crowd. Have tried it twice, and have neither been disappointed or thrilled with it. Ribs were okay and pasta decent. Third time lucky? Let's hope.

My worse dining experience ever. I went to Kit Kat's on a double date in November of 2011. Had been there for lunch a dozen times or so because it's close to my work, and while never overly impressed with the service, the food was decent. My last experience however is easily the worse I have ever had at a restaurant. It started with ordering a bottle of wine ('07 Niagara vintage) which our served advised was out of stock, but that the '08 was available. We thouht nothing of it and agreed to take the younger wine. The meal arrived late (we were going to a local theatre and had advised them as such -if you are considering Kit Kat for a pre-theatre dinner, beware as they completely overshot our timelines and we missed our show) but the worse part was the bill. The server failed to inform us that the younger vintage was actually $30 more expensive than the bottle we had previsouly ordered. We were of course not advised of this so it came as a bit of a surprise. To give you a little contest, the 4 of us at dinner are all well-employed, downtown professionals in our mid-30's so $30 isn't a deal breaker but the matter of principle definitely is. When we asked to see the manager, he came over and would not even allow us to explain our situation saying "I know what's happening here" and expected us to pay the extra $30. As you can imagine, this turned into quite the heated discussion and after being extremely rude, the manager ended-up offering to "split the difference". Either way, the damage was done. It put a real negative spin on our night and I will NEVER go back to this restaurant again. In this day of customer service, I don't know how a restauranteur can justify arguing with his customers over a discrepancy like this but, as they say, what goes around comes around.

Not Enough Cheese!. I went there for a birthday party. Given it was a fairly large party (about 10 people) and they couldn't seat us all together. The experience was not an enjoyable one. The birthday girl was hinted that the owner likes a good turnover rate so once we ate, we should head out to whatever show we were going to see. We had plenty of time before our show so we were not worried about our timing. Three things irked me about Kit Kat:
1. The waiter admitted to being hungover (awesome!)
2. My boyfriend and I ordered an antipasto plate to share which appeared to have no cheese on it. We mentioned this fact to one of the waitresses and she took it back to the kitchen. She came back with the same plate and lifted a bit of rapini to show us ONE, I repeat ONE slice of cheese - which was a pathetic slice of mozzarella!!! Who puts A piece of cheese on a antipasto plate?!
3. The restaurant was so packed that the waitresses kept bumping into my chair every time they would walk by making it a very uncomfortable dining experience for anyone not sitting against a wall.

After the show I took my parents there, and had a wonderful time. The food was fantastic the menu items we're varried, quality was superb and the wait-staff, (particulary Christine) were excellent!! We (the four of us) would all highly recommend this place. Whether you try the specials (we tried a couple - Ocean Trout was to die for) or the favorites "Fettechini Alberto" - Not to be missed!) you cannot go wrong! The suggested wine (Apothic Red a 2009 bottle with the most beautiful mocha finish - was superb with all or the dishes - even the simple cappuccino was a wonderful finish to the meal. 4 appetizers, 4 filling succulent entres, 1 bottle of wine and 4 cappuccinos for just about 200 including tax befor gratuity, and I would say that it was one of the best meals we have had out in along time. 5 out of 5 for combined quality, value and service. Woul go back I'm a heartbeat - if you are anywhere the King Street west Entertainment district - do NOT miss this gem!

Just average. Despite the fabulous review, the food was just average. Nothing special at all. The background noise was very loud, plus we were seated in probably the noisiest seat in the house, right across from the kitchen, so it was difficult to converse with my dining partner. The receptionist and the wait staff were brusque, although our food was delivered in a timely manner. Just not my type of place.

Small and Friendly Italian. I seem to like small and lively places. This one also has great italian food and fun, friendly service. Great sidewalk patio to watch Toronto finest walk by.

It was a very nice experience. I was there last night and I had the specials for the day, Calamari and Mussels for starter and Alaska Cod with Blueberries. It was delicious, the calamari was very soft and the sauce very tasty, the mussels were also very good. The combination of cod and blueberries it is a very interesting mix of sensation, taste and colours. I really liked it. My and friend had reservation or 7:30 and it looked like they weren't totally aware of it. They first offered a table in front of the bar, which I refused because it is in the way. They then offered another table in the back. I didn't quite like that spot right in front of the kitchen. I saw some other available and better located tables, but it seems they keep them for people they already know. Anyways, the service, the wine and the food were outstanding. Im sure w I'll be back there soon! Highly recommended!

Fettucine Alberto. Add chicken to this version of fettucine alfredo and you won't be disappointed. Always a pleasure to dine at this restaurant and if you are too busy to eat in, don't be afraid to ask for their takeout which is a great portion size and just as tasty at home although you will miss out on the home-like feeling you get while dining there. Best overall dining experience that I've had in Canada.

My husband's favorite is the penne with spicy sausage and I can't help but pick from his plate because that dish is amazing!

Definitely not just a place for pasta because their filet and ribs are mouth-watering and incredibly delicious.

I have no complaints about this restaurant and consider it one of my favorites in Downtown and definitely consider it my favorite Italian place!

Hope you enjoy as much as I do!

There are so many better places in Toronto. I went here with a few friends last night and although the atmosphere was good, the food was terrible. The fish of the day had been switched because they ran out of halibut and it was so fishy that I couldn't eat it. The seafood pasta only had 1 scallop and 2 shrimp in it. I am so disappointed because I went here based on Urbanspoon reviews (91% likes). I will no longer be using Urbanspoon because of this experience.
What a waste of money!

A very delicious and enjoyable experience. The special calimari was really tasty with a very nice complimenting sauce and great to share. The seafood pasta dish looks small at first but is packed with fresh seafood and is was very filling. The veal is tender with a really nice sauce as well. We tried the creme bruele and tiramisu and couldn't put it down. This will hurt your wallet, but if you don't think about that and just enjoy yourself you won't be disappointed.

Currently savoring every flavor in the rich osso bucco and angelhair fettucinni with my lovely girlfriend on Valentines day. Dimly lit with soothing music playing in the background and molto buono service. I would recommend this wonderful little jewel on king street to anyone looking to experience Italy without jumping on a plane. Definitely my new favorite authentic Italian restaurant in the city. Buono appitito!

Wow! GREAT Italian feast!. I had dinner here last week with a friend. It reminded me a lot of typical New York style Italian restaurants
Looking at the menu we noticed the 3way pasta option and with too many to choose from that sounded amazing we decided to go with that. Best thing is it could be any pastas even the specials.
Every bite, from all three plates was just to die for. We continued to rave about how good it was well after our bottle of wine was gone. Amazing food, great service! Will definitely be back!!

Food was something I could make in my kitchen. A friend of mine decided to try the food here since we were in the neighborhood.

The service was very good. The staff were very nice but the food was nothing special. I didn't dislike it, it wasn't horrible but it wasn't anything I couldn't make in my kitchen, and I'm not a cook.

Both dishes we ordered were bland and tasted like they came from a can or box. I would have had a better meal if I had a hotdog from the street carts.

What a find!. Late at night, after work, with most other places closed on King West, we discovered rather by chance Kit Kat. Made to feel at home in this smallish place, we thouroughly enjoyed our meals (we both had pasta specials) Great service and made to feel welcome even though I am sure the staff all wanted to go home. Pastas, couple of beers each and an appitizer, including good tip and taxes for less than $90.00 is damn fair.

Great food ... great service ... great place ... will be on the list for future return trips

Really Cool Place with even better food. Try to daily fish special .. It's a keeper !!

Best Pre- and Post-Theatre Place. The pastas are great (everything else on the menu can be ignored), and the ability to choose three of any pasta off the menu (including daily specials) at a set price makes it extremely affordable, given the location.

Cool place very cozy and inviting. Not the best Italian food I've ever had but tasty nonetheless.

Al Carbone runs the restaurant with his family and his ever present dog, providing customers with a wide home made southern Italian cooking. The Osso Buco Milanese is superb as good as mothers and is my mainstay here.

Food was great, especially cheese tortollini-service great too with great atmosphere.

My wife and I went to the Kit Kat restaurant after a long afternoon in the Auto Show at the Toronto Convention Centre. It has to be the worst laid out convention centre in the world. We walked for miles. Needless to say we were hungry for a good meal. After walking down to the King Street restaurant strip we decided to see if we could get into the Kit Kat without reservations. The weather was nasty this Saturday night, it was a virtual blizzard in the downtown. Luckily we got inside and were able find a spot in a short line waiting to get in, thanks to John Carbone, the owner manager who promised he would get us in without a reservation. We have been to this restaurant many times before. I have even eaten at the short and narrow bar. After waiting for a while, a waitress came around and took our coats and hung them up. Shortly after this we were seated at a table for two. We sat directly across from the

The restaurant was very narrow yet they managed to fit a mix of booths and tables. If this restaurant was a full house, not sure if it would be a fire hazard as there are hardly any space to walk.

I had dinner at a friend of mine's staple last night, the Kit Kat Bar and Grill. It's a quaint little restaurant on King Street in the theatre district of Toronto with a small, welcoming bar mid way through the restaurant. I mention the bar because the

Gimme a break; gimme a break!; gimme a break of that kit kat bar (and grill)!

Really cozy italian restaurant. The staff are friendly and let you try a wine before ordering it. Me and my friend shared the gazpacho and I had their special seafood pasta and their cheese cake for dessert. I highly reccomend the gazpacho but thenpasta was decent. I'd say prototypical italian resto. The cheese cake was flavorful - blueberries, lemon and caramel. the acidity and tartness of the lemon balanced out the blueberries and caramel really well.

I would only avoid going here on cold windy days because you get a massive draft in the restaurant since its essentially one elongated corridor!

First time we went here was at least a decade back and then recently .. The food is the same , the owner is the same .. It's small piece of history !
