Review Gonoe Sushi - Thornhill

The sushi was delicious! Pricey stuff for sure but definitely worth it! I wouldn't recommend the specialty roles! Personally I feel they're a bit over the top. The platter of any size, depending on how many people you are going with, should be more than enough to satisfy your sushi cravings! Typical environment and standard service. They provided a complimentary meal item which was so cute and unexpected!

Fabulous, warm, and friendly service. I can’t rave enough about the politeness, efficiency, and kindness of the staff here. We ordered the seafood combo and the medium sashimi and sushi boat. The sushi was very fresh and delicious. The octopus was squirming on the plate!! They also gave us complimentary steam egg, fried tofu, and Ebi mayo. In addition, they also served a salad and miso soup for each person. The prices were expensive for the portion sizes, but I’d still come back here in a heart beat because it has unique dishes and wonderful service!!!!

What a terrible quality and customer service!! It is the one of the most horrible sushi restaurants in Toronto area. Look at the Uni sushi I took out today. I called Kai Sushi to complain and the restaurant says "Uni is not a good season that's why it is very bad!" That means the restaurant knows it is not fresh but it sold to make a money. The restaurant server says that the manager doesn't come to the restaurant and the chef is too busy to take care of my complaint. If you guys want to pay your money for a rotten sushi, this is the place.

My new favourite sushi place! Their raw stuff is very fresh and reasonably priced. They also have a wide variety of Korean and Japanese a la carte dishes that are cooked for people who don't want raw fish. Staff is super friendly. It can get quite busy on weekends so reservations might be needed if you're going during prime time

The same joint as the Gal's sushi on hwy 7, but it does not serve the complimentary potatoes and cold noodles, instead, it comes with traditional Korean side dishes like kimchi, fish cakes, etc. The sushi and roll menu is also slightly different but has some of the same items like Green Dragon roll and spider roll.

Definitely a welcoming atmosphere. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food is fresh and authentic , the live octopus is phenomenal and an experience people must try when coming here. 10 out of 10 would come again and recommend.

My boyfriend wanted to try the “live octopus” since I’ve tried them in Korea, it’s definitely not as fresh as what you get in Korea but it would also not be fair to compare it against those ones. Decent sushi but the unagi bowl had little amount of unagi and was mostly rice.

One word. Rip off! This bento box is over $25. Taste? average sushi place. Price for the taste? HA!!! Huge Rip off. I had no choice but to come here with friend's family cuz they want something from this place. But never coming back.

Used to love Gonoe but recently they changed ownership to Gals sushi owners. And since then the quality of food has gone down significantly. I used to come here weekly because of their consistency and good quality. However that is no more now.

The service was so bad! We came in the restaurant, the waitress saw us but didn't give us a seat. And we ask for spoon and water, never showed up either! The food was ok, but i will bit go back again for sure!

I’ve been to the Gonoe location at Don Mills several times, and the Thornhill location is way busier. I couldn’t get a reservation and decided to drop by at 5:30 pm on a Saturday and luckily landed a table. Line ups started to form by the door around 7:00pm. The restaurant is located by the Red Lobster and Legend Chinese restaurant plaza just north of Yonge St. and Steeles Ave. Inside, there were mainly private booths with a small open area for large tables. By the bar, there were several aquariums with the live octopus, as well as buckets with sea cucumber and other seafood I did not recognize.

Gonoe is located in a plaza among many other Asian restaurants and marketplace. Owned and Operated by Korean, Gonoe serves Japanese cuisine along with several Korean dishes. As this restaurant is so popular, it is always packed. We went on a weekend and could not make a reservation and waited around 45 minutes for a table for 5.

Conclusively, the food served in this restaurant is really good and most importantly very fresh! The so-called “exotic” seafood delicacies were delicious and nothing to be scared of, so I would definitely recommend you to give Gonoe Japanese Sushi a try.

Definitely the worst Japanese restaurant I ever had!. We had a sashimi dinner that was very much below par. It wasn't cheap but the sashimi was all flounder which is chewy and gross. Most sashimi platter that I had from other restaurants usually come with an assortment but this one only comes with one type of fish. The tempura shrimps were not fresh and even the thick batter couldn't mask the staleness. Then there was a pan seared fish which tastes bland and fishy. Last but not the least, the service stinks. I over heard customers complaining and the waitress was arguing with the customer. Not only do the chefs need to enroll in Culinary 101, the servers need to take Customer Service 101 course all over again!!

15 minutes north of the well known Korean Town in North York.  The newly built World on Yonge condominium is the plaza’s new neighbour.  Being on bus route and in well developed neighbourhood, it is extremely easy to find and attracts diverse clientele. On a Tuesday evening, the restaurant was a full-house, servers hardworking, bringing out dishes and dishes of scrumptious looking food.  Service could be faster and prompt because I had to remind the servers a few times about seating and orders.  The girls seem to have their priorities wrong.  They rather get take out boxes to package unfinished food, get a pot of tea and clean a table when there were no line ups than taking my order that has been ready for at least 10 minutes or bring my bill.  They also kept clearing our plates of unfinished food, to a point we verbally notified them to not touch our plates and bowls unless they were told to.  In a way, I got a bit frustrated and annoyed with their service. It was the Korean fluke (Gwang-Uh) sashimi, sea cucumber and live octopus that people were wondering about. Fresh seafood is easily accesible and cheap in Korea where they are surrounded by ocean and I am sure that's something all Koreans miss living in Toronto. Korean sashimi, especially this specific type of fish (Gwang-
