Review The Ginza - Thornhill

Chris Andreakos
Very friendly staff. The experience was off to a great start with an excellent miso soup and seaweed salad. Then came our dynamite rolls which were fairly good. The issue started when our short ribs came. The meat was very fatty and there were some broken bones. The taste of the meat was fine but after a few attempts to eat it, we gave up. We asked the server if we could send it back and get something else instead because the meat was barely touched and we did try. Her response was that she could not take it back because she considered the plate to have plenty of good meat on it still and we should give it another go. It was unfortunate we had to pay for a plate we couldn’t eat. Also, this is the first sushi restaurant i’ve visited where they bring the edamame as the final dish. I thought they had forgotten all together but right as we were about to ask for the cheque they brought it.

The fish was not fresh, I had to chew it for a minute to be able to swallow it. The soup was tasty and warm. House salad dressing was delicious, sweet and spicy. The pat noodle was too much oily and sweet, but they were generous on the meat.

Quality of food was really good. The staff is really quick, attentive, and friendly too.

Ordering sushi from Uber eats. Our estimate food pick up was 35mins but soon changed to 1hr. When we dropped by to get our dinner, it was not ready. We had to wait another 45 mins inside the restaurant for the food to prep. They need to learn how to stop taking orders when they are overwhelmed. Waiting over 1hr 30mins+ for food is totally not worth it.

It was the best Sushi I’ve ever had 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 The staff are also friendly 👌🏻

The sushi tray was tasty. The takoyaki and tempura probably taste great for dining in. We had take out, and they were a bit mushy by the time we ate them.

Really disappointed. We have been ordering from Ginza for years. There have been other issues but we have let those go. Tonight was the last straw, though. It took 2 hours to get our order on a week night. Ordered at 7 and received after 9. I called after an hour and was told the driver just left and they were busy. After another hour, I called again and was told the driver is coming, goodbye ...and she hung up on me. I'm sorry to say they have just lost a customer.

Ordered sushi, udon and a few other dishes. Worst Food Ever Will never see ones more cent from me Soggy floury sushi. Bland unseasoned chicken teriyaki and udon soup that would be thrown out in a prison dining hall Truly disgusting food. Threw almost all of it away

I have been going here for over 10 years. I order here a lot and enjoy the food. The staff are never friendly, and always lazy. The restaurant is a dump too. However I liked ordering in from there. As of today I am absolutely never returning or ordering again and will go out of my way to inform others of the awful experience I had today. On the site currently they have a platter deal. We ordered the S1. I pick it up and as I'm walking out the very rude owner grabbed the receipt off of my bag which I thought was odd but didn't read too much into it. When I brought my tray downtown we opened it and it was not the S1 platter. I had precisely ordered this tray and the one I received was all vegetarian rolls. I called back and they offered me a free salad next time. I said no and then they asked me to bring the tray back for my money. I said no I'm already downtown. They asked me to keep it in the fridge overnight and bring it back tomorrow. I said no this was their mistake for having an old flyer on their site they should simply let me keep this tray and give me my money back. They absolutely refused. I was not going to lug the tray back up north put it in the fridge and bring it back the next day. What were they going to do serve it to another customer?? The rolls were disgusting might I add - asparagus, mango and mushroom rolls. I wouldn't eat that if you paid me. The worst customer service I've ever experience and I will definitely NOT BE BACK. You should avoid at all

Ginza , is one of the best budget friendly all you can eat sushi place . The taste of the sushi is good , the waitresses are polite and service is fast . All I can suggest is the place can add tablets for sushi selection the rest is way higher than average for the money you pay . Enjoy!

I used to dine here regularly but the quality of food and service has gone down significantly compared to when this branch first opened couple of years ago. I usually don't write a review based on one bad experience but seems like Ginza has gotten consistent with bad service and food quality and after my last experience this past month, I don't intend to return there anymore.

I no longer recommend this location to anyone. The quality of service is almost non-existent and food is less than average. I haven't had a pleasant dinner experience here the past two times I've been here and most likely won't be going back again.

Horrible service and rude staff, not recommending this location!! The sushi quality is average at best but not worth it given the terrible service/staff at this location.
The only improvement to this restaurant would be to close it down!!!

The staff are very rude and can barely speak English. The service is terrible.
Had ordered sushi for pickup and once I got there they had given my sushi away and did not even apologize for it. Will not be returning here again!

Been going for a few years. Service was extra horrible and food was worse than airplane food. The restaurant clearly has nice margins but puts Zero effort into cooking and presentation. After being served the first couple dishes out of the several ordered on their all you can eat menu (completely out of order), we waived the server and manager over. When we nicely explained our disappointment, manager walked away (never to return) and server brought us our 50 dollar bill. Will never go back.

Good food. Terrible service. Not quite All-u-can-eat when the servers don't come around to take your order. Should have chew and screwed, that's how u feel. Now I gotta make brownies to fill this void.

Ginza is special to me. I've been going there for years and although they have their ups and downs (delivery is tricky sometimes, the atmosphere is hit or miss but its super speedy for take out) they always serve delicious sushi. My absolute must orders include the gyoza, mango salad (I dream about this all the time), green dragon rolls and sushi pizzas. Oh and for dessert, their tempura ice cream (deep fried ice cream guys...its life changing). I will always be a loyal customer here and suggest it over many sushi places in Thornhill!

It's disgusting and the service is terrible. Edamame were overdone, spicy tuna roll is cooked and when I asked for a raw one, it was made spicy with a nasty tomato hot sauce instead of spicy mayo. Ew!

Good for sitdown, horrible delivery service. Normally i never write reviews but they really upset me today so i feel the need to point out a few things about their delivery service.
when I called to order it was 7pm, the lady put me on hold by placing the phone down on the table so i could still hear everything that was happening in the restaurant, after about 3 minutes of being 'on hold' i started saying helloooo really loud because i thought she forgot about me i could hear her taking other calls and other peoples delivery telephone orders and not mine. so i hang up and call back. the line was busy. i call back in 10 minutes and she answers again and i say i want to order for delivery and again "can you hold' i said no i need to order first. she took my address phone # and order and i had to repeat myself just to make sure she got it because she repeated nothing back to me, didnt tell me my order total or repeat back to me my address. she did however say "we're quite busy tonight should be one hour' i'm like okay thats fine. now i dont live far, one major intersection away but i dont drive so i thought i'd order in for once. the delivery didnt show up for 2.5 hours. i called at around 2 hour mark and told her to cancel it that i wasn't happy that i had to wait and nobody told me i would have to wait so much longer and she said sorry and that she would call the driver to tell him but that he had left a long time ago with my order. he still shows up anyways and starts knocking and knocking. i answered just to tell him that he should have been called that i had cancelled because he's an hour late. that i wasnt happy and i didnt want to pay for the order and he said okay and left. what was odd was that he put the order in my hands then took it out of my hands. i dunno, i thought at least i would be offered it at half off? but no it was just weird experience for delivery for me. normally i make it a point to go sit down at the restaurant and in sit down service i never had a problem but i feel like i should have been notified that it would be late at the very least. very disappointed in the customer service.

Good Sushi, BAD service. It wasn't my first time in this restaurant but it sure was THE LAST! As long as you order nothing but sushi and Maki, you're safe. If you order anything a bit more "complicated" such as dumplings, any soup that is not Miso soup, Tai, curry or meat dishes, you have to WAIT( and wait and wait). After we ordered, we got only the sushi combo. When we asked what happened to the chicken wanton soup and the dumplings, we were told that it takes extra time to make and we have to wait patiently. After 40 minutes, we asked about our order again and were told that next time we should order the "express" dishes, such as miso soup and sushi and stay away from the other options. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? We asked for the bill but they said they will have to charge us for the dishes we didnt receive as well because they are in the process of making them. We asked to speak with the manager, who showed up and apologized for the "misunderstanding" and the rudeness of his staff. We were completely taken aback by the bad service. NEVER GOING BACK !

Great sushi. I love sushi and I travel to Japan time to time. There are only few places in Toronto that have quality similar to sushi in Japan, and Ginza is one of them.
My personal favorites are salmon and white tuna sushi. Also, I found their prices are better then many other paces serving good quality sushi. Their party trays represent best value - I usually order 45 piece sushi/sashimi party tray for $30.

Shame. I have eaten sushi in both Canada and Asia (Iran) and if Ginza had tried to establish itself in Iran it would be run out of town. The sushi is extremely low quality and the chef is not even Japanese.

Not as advertised. On the window display, it shows unlimited Special with picture showing Asian foods. when the food provided on the table, it was 22 pieces small rolls which is not what I ordered. I had to go out to show the waiter what is displayed in window. Then provided me what was showing in the window display. After I finished eating and saw the bill it shows $15.25. I asked why? The waiter said that's the price on the menu ( which is almost doubled price from what I saw in the window display). I suspect they show a special price with the picture in the window to lure customers in and charge a higher price according to the menu. Waiter had bad English and keep saying it was my fault and everyone knows the two different Combos. Be very careful if you are going to dine in this restaurant. Japanese scammers artists but food was fresh because they were busy

Excellent Sushi. Unleash the taste buds with the best sushi in Thornhill. All you can eat and menu available. The volume of sushi ensures the sushi is extremely fresh. We eat every quarter of their menu. Extremely value orintated with free fruit at the end of every meal. It is not what you think about Japanese food.

Bad service. Had to wait fifteen minutes upon sitting down to get someone's attention. I asked for water and tea, but only was brought tea. It took ten minutes for the server to come back to get food orders. The food was fine, but my tea was empty for most of the meal and no one ever came back until I flagged someone down for the bill. Don't expect service, and be willing to wait a while. We also had problems with the food coming to our table. My order was brought about 10 minutes after ordering, but my friend's order took an extra 10 minutes. When two people order, their food should come out together. Not here.

Disgusting.. How does this place have such a high rating? I'm in shock. The food is awful and over-priced for what it is. The staff are stuck-up and inattentive. After trying Yoshiko at Bathurst and Steeles and recognizing what good sushi actually is, I know I will never go back to Ginza again.

My friends and I had a terrible experience at Ginza Sushi located at Yonge Street today. The waiters constantly ignored us and so I went out to hand in our all-you-can-eat order sheet to the owner. I asked the owner for another order form and she said loudly inMandarin and then translated in Cantonese to all her staff,"These people haven't eaten and asked for another form." Obviously she didn't know thatI can understand what she said. When I filed a complaint, she denied and when I told her I confronted her again,"sorry" and then walked away quickly. We definitely will not go back again.

Nasty Place - Stay Way From It!. The food is not even close to sushi quality, however what gets me most is that they insisted on charging extra for some maki i did not eat. This is an all you can eat sushi buffet that charges extra for not finishing the last piece on your plate. What a joke. Will never eat there again!

Ginza makes me very cranky (and I'm still hungry).. Oh Ginza! You make me so made!!!

I placed a order for delivery with my staff today at the Thornhill location. It was with much trepidation that we did so, as we have all had more negative experiences with Ginza's customer service than positive experiences, but the food is just so good.

When placing the order via phone, I ordered 3 tom yum phos (as well as lunch combos and sushi platters). The man on the phone asked if it was soup or noodle. Given that pho is noodle soup, I replied 'soup'. When our order arrived we had the soup, but no noodles. When I called the restaurant, the man (manager?) was rude replied that I had said soup, when he asked 'noodles or soup'. (seriously, an 'unsoupy' pho?! duh!)

Rather than drive the two minutes to deliver the noodles, or to even acknowledge or apologize for the miscommunication, he ended the conversation.

By finding a resolution, he would have ensured that very hungry local staff would be very regular customers, instead, this repeated lack of service (which has included slow service, long wait times, many errors in orders on previous occasions), and poor communication skills have cemented the restaurant as establishment that is rude and inconsiderate to their customers. It is really too bad, as we all would love to enjoy Ginza's food regularly (once or twice a week), but we are aghast at the poor quality of service.

VERY BAD SERVICE. I never liked this place but every time wanted to give it a chance, but after last time that we went there for all you can eat sushi I have decided that this is absolutely last time that we go there. The waitresses move/talk/serve as if they are asleep. It took forever for the food to arrive, they don't understand the clients and it is very hard to understand them, even though it is cheap but I always get upset and frastrated after going there. NEVER AGAIN!!! And the food is not great either, so no, not worth it

It's gotten worse. I've watched restaurants renovate and change food before most for the better however this is not the case with ginza. I never liked it to begin with but i went in after the renovations and the change of menu and now i really don't like it the food is cheap but you'll find out that it matches the weak flavor of there sushi. I was with a friend and apparently one of the waitresses didn't like her so she completely ignored us we had to get someones attention just to get an order.

Enjoyed it!!. We had a nice lunch, tried a few different rolls...sunshine, California, and spider roll. Very fresh!!

MEDIOCRE AT BEST. Overall, the sushi is average, nothing awesome here. The order seems to be wrong every time. They leave ingredients out of the rolls that should be included as stated on the menu. There's never enough wasabi, so order extra. I find the prices are high. Will not be going back and would not recommend.

Whenever I eat ginza I only order out, the service (like most sushi restaurants) is not great. It never fails- everytime I order they always leave something out. It's not terribly expensive and the sushi is good- lots of variety. There are way better sushi places in the area so it amazes me that it's always packed. Overall ginza is alright but not my first choice.

I ordered a couple times for delivery and I find a lot of the times it's not prepared fresh or with quality. The portions are huge they should be bite sized delicate instead of fillers. I personally would not recommend it to anyone. It's decent but not the best.

Most popular restaurant in my area. You definitely get your money's worth, sometimes more. It is always very lively and the recent renovations have made it seem like you are dining at a fine sushi restaurant. The food is always good given in large portions. I love it, especially as a student.
Mehmet
The worst thai dishes I saw. By far lowest quality food. Pad thai taste like ketchup. Green curry was tasteless. Minimal chicken found in both dishes. Minimal.
Csim
Disappointment and Confusion!. Ginza is shy of a medicore sushi bar. The service was not very good and their food was somewhat worse. My confusion lies in why it is always busy! There are many other great sushi places in that area that I find are a better bang for your buck. Ginza is just OKAY. I'm about 2 minutes away from Ginza and I wouldn't go back there to dine.

Try their sushi.. not their rice dishes. I tried their salmon and rice dish... was very plain... but their sushi is just fantastic. very good portions and at great value. fresh. love their sushi. yumyumyum

Sadly disappointed. Admittedly, the last time I ate from here was over a year ago. If it was even OK, I would return, since it is close to home; but after two bad quality sashimi experiences in a row, that was it. The menu would be great if the fish was good, but it really is not good. An unpalatable disappointment.

Used to be my girlfriends favorite place. Lots of thornhill J-princes liked it too. I dislike it. In winter u freeze with the cold drafts. The good is awefull. U get less than u pay for. Last time I visited there I promissed would bethe last.

What's with all the mayo? It seems like ginza sushi thinks adding lots of mayo will compensate for mediocre ingrediants. Not so. Thousand island dressing on the house salad was only slightly offensive. Miso soup could use a little more miso. The child screaming that she wanted ice cream behind us was the cherry on the bland sundae that was Ginza Sushi
Amor Fati
Meh. Ginza used to be a really great place, before the renovation and new approach to sushi, which is pretty much a fast food version of sushi. It is cheap and the quality is o.k but it is mediocre at best.
