Consistently good Chinese food. Large menu with all of the staples & there’s fresh Chinese BBQ in-house. Average prices & well-kept premises. (4/5)
Patthai!!!! It is hard to choose between Chicken And Sea Food, so you can never say no when they are both served in a platter together!
For such cravings, you all would love; Chicken 🐔 And Shrimp 🍤 Patthai. A medium spicy noodle, with quantity which suffices a group of 8!
So all you out there, go and try it!

Whenever we drive down to TO, we always make it a point to stop at THIS one - the others I hear don't compare.
Delicious Asian comfort food at reasonable prices. Good roast dish - duck, pork, etc ...
A myriad of congee concoctions (thus the name)!
Congee Queen is my new go-to Chinese food restaurant. The service is fast, food tastes great and portions are huge!
My two favourite dishes are Yeung Chow Fried Rice and Diced Sirloin Golden Bowl. Their fried rice is probably the best I've ever had in Toronto - delicious and not greasy or salty. The amount you get is good for 3-4 people. The sirloin dish comes with mixed vegetables and is presented nicely in a crispy wonton bowl. Other great items include their pad thai, beef with black bean and vegetables, spice and pepper salt squid and fried turnip.
They have several different locations including North York, Markham, Scarborough and more, so be sure to check them out when you're craving for some Chinese food!
I dropped into the Congee Queen for an early supper last night with full intentions of trying my first congee. However, after looking it up online I had decided it might not be for me. Instead - I ordered a noodle soup with grouper and preserved egg which also came with a milk bubble tea ($8). The soup itself was okay, if not a little bland. I enjoyed the fish and the egg though. My bubble tea was interesting. It was my first bubble tea, so I didn't really know what to expect. I am not a big tea fan to start so that part of the beverage was lost on me. However, the cool little "bubbles" that shot up through the straw were pretty tasty. I liked those! Feeling a bit hungry still, I decided to order my first rice noodle roll. I had the Fried Dry Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll with Sesame ($4). The dish came with a side of peanut sauce and hoisin sauce. I wanted very much to enjoy this plate but it wasn't for me. While I don't think these dishes were for me, I don't think it was a reflection of their preparation. My server was very attentive and helpful in making some first time orders. Overall, I am happy I tried out some new things.
I love these Congee places!
Congee Queen offers up some delicious Chinese food through a variety of dishes that reminds me of my childhood. The place itself is located as a brick and mortar situated along Steeles Ave in the same shopping plaza as the Sears Outlet and the Food Basics (I don't remember the name of the mall). The restaurant is very nice and also has a pretty decent patio on the side. Service is friendly and fast and food is delciious!
We ordered a bowl of Chicken and Duck Congee, Crispy Tiger Shrimp on Mango Salad, and the Fried Lobster Chow Mein. The chicken and duck congee was great as the serving size is enough for 2-3 people for like only $6. The congee was seasoned nicely as it wasn't bland but it wasn't overly salty like other places. The meat portion within the congee could have been larger, but was still good. The consistency is just how it should be. The Crispy Tiger Shrimp with Mango salad was wonderful too. Though it was covered in a custard sauce, the shrimp remained crisp with the batter. The dish reminded me of the Walnut Shrimp dish that many Cantonese places offer on their menus (you know, the ones with the white sauce and broccoli!)
The lobster chow mein was incredible. I loved it because I love chow mein noodles when they're crisp and then soften up from the sheer volume of sauce that is put onto them. The lobster was very good as it's cooked with ginger and onions and actually went well with chow mein noodles, though it was a bit hard to find room for everything given that we had such a little table. The lobster was probably a good 1 1/2 pounder and the poor little guy was destroyed by the gf and I.
Service is neither here nor there, but can you really blame them? They're running around trying to control the chaos that is Congee Queen. The place gets real packed so it could be hard to find a table. Another options is the beautiful patio that have out on the side that's hardly ever used. It's a very nice place to have dinner and a quiet oasis from the loud that is the inside. Prices are very fair and nothing is overly expensive. Even the lobster chow mein was only $17! Definitely will be back.
I like this Congee Queen location the best. We go there quite often. Food is always good and service is great. We went there yesterday to have lunch ,we brought a bottle of wine and they let us open it and gave us wine glasses for extra $10 . Not bad , much better than paying per glass. We ordered Mixed Vegetable Fried Rice , BBQ spare Rib with honey , General Tao Chicken , Stir fried lobster with ginger and green onion , Fried oyster with belachan sauce, schezuan style tiger shrimp . All the food was good but what stood out the most to me were the tiger shrimp, lobster and oyster dishes. The oysters were lightly fried in a garlicky spicy sauce and we're very tender and just melted in your mouth. The lobster was nicely prepared slightly sweet with a hint of ginger in there , not overpowering so you could taste the fresh lobster. We also ordered dessert , fresh Mango pudding and ice cream with fruit. Pudding was light and not too sweet very creamy with fresh mango pieces at the bottom. The vanilla ice cream seemed to be made in house , very creamy and smooth and not too sweet and the fruits in syrup complimented it nicely. Overall good experience as always. Will be back again there soon.
The food here at congee queen is an excellent place to have an authentic chinese meal. It is best to go with group of people and share a bunch of dishes. Getting congee is a must at congee queen, accompanied by some chinese donuts or fritters. The fried chili turnip cakes, soft shell crab fried rice, roasted duck, and sweet spicy deep fried oysters are my favourites to order and never disappoint with generous portions that are always consistently delicious.
The Stir Fried Lobster in Hong Kong Style was a great presentation of lobster done right. The lobster meat was firm and fresh and there were little fried fish, meat, chopped-up green and red peppers on the dish too. It was perfect to satisfy my craving for seafood and tasty meat. Delicious! It was a good portion for two people.

Tasty! The portion sizes are massive, especially if you eat in. The soups, congee, and spring rolls are tasty. The general tao chicken is crispy and saucy, some of the tastiest I've had.
Mouthwatering!. I make a point of trying to make a stop at this place whenever I'm back in TO. Their mango chicken and shrimp dish is soooooo good and the turnip patties are divine. The prices are just incredible (a whole lobster prepared on a bed of deliciously sauced noodles for 18 dollars... Yes please!).
Pleasantly surprised with the great service and food. Everything we ordered was great: Sirloin beef in black pepper sauce , fried squid and chicken and vegetable chow mein (substituted udon noodles instead).
This place serve great Chinese and some vietnamese food with exquisite presentation. Price is reasonable.
This Restaurant Was Packed! And Rightly So. SuperFresh Thai Pan-Asian cuisine served up with the precision of a skilled top end chef. Service Was well coordinated and executed with tact. The Food tasted great. I will be coming back in short order! WELL DONE!
I’ve never left hungry!. Located in the parking lot of Shops on 404 Mall this Chinese restaurant has lots of free parking. It is nicely decorated, modern and clean.
I eat here every few months, usually at lunch. I’m not Asian so may not know how authentic it is but I’ve always enjoyed whatever I’ve had. The seafood congee with chopped fine ginger is great. It is always a good meal and a great value. The servers are sometimes friendlier than other times but the service is fine. It’s a good place to go with bigger groups so you can share and try more dishes.
Great general Tao chicken usually.
Nasty duck/pig rotisserie.
I like the food here. It's really tasty! I especially love the fried chili turnip patties. Other than the food, everything else is average and even below par.
I came here once with my family. We had about 10 people. My sister had made arrangements for a sunday night. When we arrived, we still had to wait 20mins for a table! What's worse is that the table we got was round and only big enough for about 8 people. It was cramped and some of us were given stools instead of chairs so we couldnt relax our back. The pricing of the food came up to about $200. Yikes.
A second time i came here with my friends, the server gave us the wrong size. We had ordered an extra large super bowl and only got a medium. She did apologize for the mistake and brang us a new one though. Their service is questionable, but their food is not. Good stuff. I recommend the turnip patties, sweet&sour chicken, deep fried dough fritters and ofcourse, congee.
Great Value for Money!. It's right across the street from us and it's our "go to" place when we want comfort food. Our favorites:
Canadian Smoked Salmon Fried Rice
Cripsy Cantonese Chow Mein
Crispy Tiger Shrimp & Mango Salad Tossed w/ Custard Sauce
Spice & Pepper Salt Squid
Great Chinese food!. I go out to eat Chinese food quite often with my folks and I must say that Congee Queen is definitely my top 5 Chinese cuisine restaurants. Their specialty, congee, is excellent: not runny, not too thick. We normally order their Cantonese Chow Mein and is very tasty. I noticed that if you show up early (as soon as they open, 10:30am) they make super fresh chinese doughs and just a warning, they do take a while... but it will be guaranteed tasty! However, on the flip side, their other dishes like Pho and Pad thai aren't the best. If you're hungry, they will taste super heavenly but if you know how Viet and Thai is supposed to taste like, you'll know what I mean! Overall, I highly recommend this place! Oh, and I've only tried 2 of their locations... so far, the Thornhill location is the better one.. by far!
2nd place is not bad when you compare it to there sister location down by Lawrence and Don Mills. The congee is good, but not as flavorful as the other location. But when you get the Congee cravings, it's a good choice.
Make a reservation!. Fast service! Great for big parties. However, there are always big lineups for tables. Call ahead and make a reservation :)
Great food, great service!!!
Not bad.. It's not the best Chinese food out there but it's worth the money
Surprisingly clean. I am going to make this review short and sweet. Congee Queen is a no thrills Chinese restaurant with your typical rice, noodles and congee dishes. What impressed me though was this specific location was cleaner than comparable congee places. I also tried the Congee Queen in North York but found it not as clean/tidy.
Good food, large portions, and at an affordable price. Usually I take out my food here, but occasionally I eat-in. From past experiences the service was not bad, but there's always room for improvement. The food is amazing which is why I keep coming back.
Large portion with delicious menu, what's not to love. Congee Queen is pretty awesome. They have a very extensive menu with delicious options. I especially liked the mango chicken stir fry thing. It was zesty and delicious.
Chinese Version of New England Seafood Chowder ?. My wife and I just finished an interesting meal at the Congee Queen in Markham (Steeles and 404). We were given a recommendation for the restaurant from the very helpful staff at the Front Desk of the Holiday Inn. We actually walked over (~15 minutes), but a downpour resulted in us taking a taxi back to the hotel.
The line-up outside was initially intimidating as there were literally people lined up right outside the door. You just have to work your way to the desk and take a number (handwritten on a blue piece of paper) and wait for the hostess to call out your number. The wait was fairly quick at only 20 minutes and we were served tea right away.
We didn't know what to order and our server was very helpful recommending the House Congee and Deep Fried Cantonese Chow Mein. Both dishes were very tasty to me, but my wife preferred the Cantonese Chow Mein which was crispy and loaded with very generous portions of shrimp, beef and mushrooms. The congee dish was huge and was too much for just 2 people, but it was loaded with generous portions of fish, crab, and scallops. I thought the dish was an interesting version of another hearty soup - New England Seafood Chowder. My wife wasn't impressed with the congee. She didn't think the recommended dessert was all that good either, but she would recommend the Deep Fried Cantonese Chow Mein.
The total bill came to only ~ $31 with tax and tip so it was very economical. I would recommend it as a good place to go to taste authentic Chinese food in a casual environment ( I was wearing jeans and so was my wife) with very good service. The restaurant is very nicely decorated in stainless steel and dark wood, but it is a friendly atmosphere where the locals dine and can bring their families as well. The next time I think I will follow the lead of the adjoining tables and just order a small congee and a plate of BBQ'd pork with a side of vegetables. I enthusiastically recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal with authentic Chinese food at a good price.
Food not as good today, but service is good. Went there earlier today. Just had the following:
House Vermicelli, this is my usual dish and I normally like it, but today it tasted a tad bit saltier than normal.
Deep fried Sweet and sour garoupa, this one was not too bad, not really the best ever. but not too bad.
Fried chilli turnip. I didn't really eat much of this, because I can't really take spicy food, but everyone else liked it and what I was able to tolerate wasn't too bad.
Shrimp Wonton, ugh this one was really bad, the shrimp didn't taste fresh and felt MSG laden. Avoid if possible.
Since the service wasn't too bad, and I usually like the restaurant food. I'll try my other usual dishes again, failing that I'll take off my "like" rating of this restaurant.
Cheap, tasty, big portions
For the good food, fast service and value, I would not hesitate to come back for more even if it is quite a drive.
Super friendly staff, down to earth simple Chinese homey Chinese comfort food loaded up with generous portions of seafood and tasty BBQ duck! Bonus: Open late!
If you let me order at a Congee X restaurant, this is the type of order I make. Lot's of carbs (fried rice, congee, fried noodles, rice noodles) and a few tasty dishes to complement (spicy deep fried squid, spicy turnip cake, fried
