Review Naru Japanese Cuisine - Sydney

We’re glad we chose to celebrate birthday with Naru! The food is consistently excellent (we tried Soy Potato Rolls, Beef Ramen, a set of Lunch Box) :) The gentleman (I assumed who’s the owner) that took our reservation was very nice and friendly. Also, a big shoutout to Cynthia and the waiter that took care of our table - they did an amazing job and made our dining experience memorable ♥️ Thank you guys!

We traveled quite a distance and excited to try this place out. The owner was very pleasant and loved the decor. We had take out and what we ordered was to take 20 minutes but they had it done in 5. It was so fresh and delicious. Got the Dynamite Roll and a Scallop Roll . It will be in our future trips to Sydney!

Portions were quite small and the sushi itself was mediocre while the rice dishes were pretty good. The food however is quite expensive and we left the restaurant with a big dent in our pockets and still some empty space in our stomachs.

Very expensive: $20 for 7pc nigiri, for example. Good food: takoyaki is crisp on the outside and tender with octopus inside. Soft shell crab roll has panko inside and crab outside, not the kind of soft shell you'd expect with an actual soft shell crab in shell deep fried. The crab outside is also spicy which the menu does not mention so just please be aware.

My favorite dine in place. Great atmosphere. Get service. Food is awesome. Update: Naru is pretty hard to beat. Their food is always consistent, fresh and quick to arrive. The service is outstanding, friendly and charming. I still continue to go 4-5 times a month.

I think the quantity and the price are not proportional. Very normal sushi, nothing special. If you have high expectations, lower them so you won’t be disappointed.

Stopped in for dinner while waiting for the ferry. The service was pretty great, really quick and the staff were friendly. We were a bit confused when we were told we couldn’t sit on the patio because it was “too windy” when it was a portrait still day. The rolls were surprisingly good, we weren’t expecting rolls of that quality in such a small town. They had substantial vegetarian and vegan options. We would stop in again if we were ever in the area.

Updated Review 2021: 5/5 stars This restaurant is great. It’s still a bit pricey, but I learned my lesson from the first time and I came a bit earlier and ordered more food! The Una Don bowl was great, a bit heavy on rice though. The pork and shrimp gyozas were crispy and flavorful. The butterfish sashimi was melting in my mouth! We had quite a feed, this is one of the best restaurants in Cape Breton, mainly for the fact that you can mix it up from pizza and governors every once in a while and get some variety with a feed of authentic high quality sushi. Original Review 2016: 4/5 stars The owner Sung was friendly, but the restaurant closed earlier than the listed hours. We came in 25 minutes before close and had to order for take out. This is a newly constructed building with a beautiful interior. It's an authentic Japanese restaurant, the kind you'd expect to find in a larger city. The staff are Japanese sushi chefs with authentic training and traditional recipes. It opened July 20th 2016, we visited in the first month. There are vegetarian options and a wide selection of sashimi and sushi, although they didn't have mackarel when we visited. The portion size and price of the Miso Soup made for a regretful purchase, but I loved the seaweed salad and sashimi. My wife loves salmon sushi, but she was not a fan of the salmon here. I liked it. Overall, this is on the higher side for price and the the smaller side for portions. When you order sashimi so you might be hungry afterwards - after spending $50 here, we had to go to Governors to finish eating. I will definitely come again!
