Review Oriental Buffet Restaurant - Surrey

Mariano Elisa Tolentino
This is the buffet where you get what you pay for. It desperately needs real deep cleaning inside and outside. TIP: if you want to dine here, arrive as soon as the doors open to make sure you are served piping hot dishes fresh from the kitchen.

A place to go where you want to eat good quality food at a very cheap price. The food served are well cooked and are surprisingly prepared. Except for the crabs. They are overcooked and sometimes there is no meat inside their shell. The staff are friendly and they do their best to make you feel at ease.

Went for lunch. A few of the dishes werent so good. A battered fish was like hard plastic. I'm sure if it were fresh it would have been okay. On the bright side there were many more dishes that were delicious so it made up for it. Just leave the less than desired things in your plate. The waitress didn't seem to judge us haha. I had sushi, soup, and a little bit of everything and it was 85%/15% good to not so good. I would go again for the price for lunch. $13.95!

Edit: it may be permanently closed now. I love this restaurant and go often. The food is great and the prices are great. The building is large so there is plenty of seating and there's usually not a lot of people there (I go around 5pm so it may get busy later in the evening). The restaurant is fairly old so it's kind of shabby. I wouldn't say it's dirty but it's not super clean either. The variety is awesome. There are so many different kinds of food and it's pretty good quality. I'm a really picky person and I like it so that says a lot. They have all you can eat crab but it's so dry and shrivelled up it's like pulling little pieces of cardboard out of the shell so I avoid that even though I love crab. But the rest of the food is great. The waitresses can barely speak english and we never know what they are saying so that's awkward. They only come around to ask if you want a drink then you're on your own but it's an all you can eat buffet so they aren't going to ask how your meal is every 5 mins. The food used to look like it had been sitting for a while but new management took over and now everything looks super fresh. I heard something about a food safety issue, they weren't keeping the food hot enough to pass the inspection so they've fixed that as well. Overall I'm very pleased with the restaurant, even more with the new owners. I'd highly recommend it.

People this is the place to take you friend and family from out of town if you want to impress anyone either a date,a proposal perhaps meeting future in laws I highly suggest this place you will be talking about if for years to come. The lovely moth ball scent from the washroom will take you to another land once you walk in to use the facilities also the fresh cut flowers in the washroom does add to the ambience of this place. When you walk in notice the quality furniture it is so nice that don't even want to put your piping hot plate of food on it. The food has an essence all to it's own please make sure you go up for seconds or thirds but make sure you finish everything or else the server will scold you. The price for dinner is a bargain the memories you will have of this place will be with you long after you leave so I highly suggest you head over and try out the gourmet truly one of a kind Oriental Buffet.

Not good. The food was not good. But even worse was the lack of cleanliness everywhere. How is it that a restaurant owner cannot look and cannot see that every inch in the washrooms are disgusting.? Urinals are coated in rotting piss! How? Why? They need to realize that a disgusting washroom made me want to vomit and I could not eat any more in that place. Is that their strategy to save on food costs?? Make me feel ill so I cannot eat anymore? You are disgusting. I would love to grab the owner by the head and force their face into the urinal directly.

It's okay, not bad but not great. Some things you should avoid like the rice but everything else is okay. Crab quality has decreased, seems like they tried to make it so they can replace it faster than before so they cook it faster. Makes it hard to get out of the shell but all in all, not a bad place to eat if you're hungry.

As far as Chinese Buffets go, this one tops the list for me. I'm not Asian, if that matters, so I may like it for different reasons than others. The food was fresh, and there was LOTS of variety, including very generous selection of various seafood dishes. The Dim Sum baskets were constantly being refreshed, the rice and vegetable dishes were not overcooked. I would actually say I can't wait to go back there again! The tables were clean that I could see, although the windows hadn't been washed in months I'd suspect. So don't sit by the window and you won't notice! I wish it was like it was with the old owners way back, where you pay as you go in, and everything is included. We had to wait quite some time before figuring out that we took the bill to the man near the front of the restaurant behind the bar. I'd recommend it for the food, dessert, ice cream and value for money. 5 stars out of 5. It's not a 5 star restaurant, but as far as rating goes, I'll still give it a 5/5 for value.

Oriental buffet is the worse no one ever eat there food wasn't fresh it tasted like it was sitting there for the whole day everything was stale wouldn't recommend going there price is not worth it would rate it 1/10 even the icecream tasted bad.

this place is quite decent. just your standard Chinese buffet. I don't think it warrants a 1 star rating but it isn't fantastic either. just standard, cheap, and decent.
Darren
there’s not enough weed in bc to get me stoned enough to eat here again. i like the variety but everything kinda sucks. sorry. pick up your game.

From what I can tell, the experience you have here is heavily influenced by the expectations you have walking in. It is an old place, needs some work done on the building. However, the food itself is not bad at all. They have a diverse array of foods and desserts, from sushi to ice cream (which I will compliment on, the ice cream is competing with purdy's quality-wise) and all of it is pretty good provided it's what you're looking for. If you can order normal chinese food I feel you'll be accustomed to this place well. It's greasy but it tastes good. I love the spring rolls. Take some friends and see what you think!

Absolutely disgusting!! Worst restaurant I have ever been in. The food tasted rancid. Just horrible. I do not recommend this place to anyone...ever... Run... I would not feed that crap to a dog let alone a human... Felt sick to my stomach about 20 mins after leaving and I really didnt eat that much. And I rated it 1.0 because I could not post until I rated it.. It actually in the minus for me. And dont let the photo's fool you into think its clean because it isnt. Its dirty, has holes in random places on the floor and dont even get me started on the bathroom!!

Do yourself a favour and don't come here. This place is literally so gross and I got sick after coming here. I don't even know why my parents thought it was a good idea to come here....

Lunch Buffet $11.99 (11am-3:30pm, Sat-Sun add $1.00)
Dinner Buffet $15.99 (4pm-10pm, Sat-Sun add $1.00)
註:長者九折優惠 (65 and above 10% off)

I know what you're thinking... how could I ever have any sort of expectation of a place like this whatsoever? Well, sometmes when you're out with kids, a buffet seems like a good idea. It's relatively convenient and you get your food right away (trust me when you're a parent this is HUGE) Needless to say, the food quality here is really quite terrible. The only realy redeeming quality I could think of is that at least the sneeze guard was clean. Save yourself the trouble.

They say time is a healer of all, but unfortunately that is not the case here. As lots of other reviews say, this place has been around for awhile and quality has just plummeted. My parents told me that as a kid, we came here and the food was pretty good, but I guess all good things come to an end. This place was absolutely horrific, food was greasy and just disgusting. The ride home everyone in the car was feeling sick to their stomachs. I am advising you to avoid this place completely unless you enjoy deep fried mystery meat drowned in sweet and sour sauce.

The first thing that hits you, besides the aroma of various dishes, is the shear size of the restaurant. It comfortably seats over 200 people, in a plain and somewhat worn out decor. With the four rather large, double sided buffet lines, the selection of food is very good, although it was difficult to really know what you were eating as the labels were missing. The food was well prepared and very plentiful, but it was a little bland and a bit on the greasy side. There's lots of seafood, vegetable dishes and noodles, there's also a Sushi Bar and an area where you can grill your own food. Dessert takes up one entire buffet line with an abundance of cakes, cookies and ice cream. It's would be a great place to take a team or large group of people for some basic, good Asian food.

Effing gross. We went in around 6:30, a guy at the front desk just pointed to the side room and said sit over there. Did that, a young girl (no older than 17) asks what we would like to drink, I said water and she disappeared. My husband tried to get her attention multiple times for a ginger ale and then gave up. The food was super salty, the kimchi looked at least a day old with gross flavoring. The only decent thing was sauteed mushrooms. The "sushi" was below average, soggy avocado, fell apart. Even the ice cream bar was old and hard and grainy. I bumped into a couple entering the restaurant and told them to go somewhere else because the food was so gross. The place was very dirty and unkempt. We only saw the waitress as she gave us the bill. She shorted me a dollar so I guess that was her tip. Never returning and hope to god I didn't get food poisoning.

Dirty and Disgusting!!!. They should close this place that is so dirty... Washrooms gross gross, waiters not sympathetic at all...food greasy, not fresh, plates still wet and dirty, iach iach iach...it was a first and last try. If a restaurant is dirty imagine the kitchen... Omg someone make this place get closed until renovations and new and more staff!!!!

Food. A group of us attented the dicusting resturaunt Feb 27 2015 for dinner. The food was very greasey and did not taste good.Their was a grill beside the buffet where you could cook your own meat.very good idea but i am sure that grill has not been cleaned in months it was discusting. The smell in the resturuant was terriable but maybe it was coming from the bathrooms they were just gross. There was no sign of them being cleaned for quite some time.Everyone in our party was very unhappy with the food.My mother always told me if you get the chance to check out the kitchen.I did't get that chance but after a call to the health board on monday i am sure they will.

In a very faraway land, where the mountains stop and the valley looms ahead, time stood still. I have stumbled among this time warp once or twice a year over the past decade and a half; about time I tried it. The buffet is huge that it took me four plates to try everything (and I am not sure I did end up trying everything). Here is how the first plate looked like followed by where it was filled from. Yes, Chinese and Japanese made a peace treaty and joined forces on this buffet. So by now, many of you are salivating over all this food for less than $15. Don't get too excited, every item on the platter above, despite looking like a distinct piece of food, had the same taste (yes, including the sushi). Well, let's go back for platter two - the selection looks more interesting on this part of the buffet island. I was very excited about the smelts - I love fried smelts. But those did not crunch as fried smelts do, they stretched like rubber does. Time for the more western food on the spread. The homogenous taste experience continued with plate three. The only item I did not add to the plate were the french fries and gravy; now I feel that may have been a mistake. Time for dessert. I thought these are mango and coconut pudding cut into edible chunks. Nothing - no flavour, no taste. Same with the cake - just looks. In fact, the only thing with taste was the cookie. Seniors. Have been going to this place for many many years .... I am not really fussy but lately you can tell there must be money problems. Used to be more shrimp and fish dishes ... last visit they had full head on shrimp but I do not like to deal with that. Used to be chicken wings but that is no more .... just legs (they are tasty mind you) The floor needs work ..... Fix that dam BBQ ... Its been more than 10 years since that one burner quit working ... turn up the heat on the other one .. maybe put something out we can cook. Tongs ... we need Tongs. One last thing ... When you give the customer a bill for 2 seniors ... don't change your mind at the till .... people do not come back ......

Basic food and simple service. When I visited Hong Kong and toured the instant cities in the new territories I experienced a number of eating establishments that catered to the Chinese workers and passing trade. They all had the commonalities of cheap prices, basic decor, buffet service, inexpensive cuts of meat, wide food selections, and lots to eat.. The restaurants had one purpose in mind: to feed people with a satisfying selection of food. There were no gournet pretensions or catering to refined or finicky tastes. Cleanliness standards were not in the squeaky clean spectrum but neither I or my travelling companions ever suffered any discomfort caused by what we ate.
The Oriental Buffet fits the mold of those eateries. I have eaten at the Oriental numerous times and have gotten more than my money,s worth. The usual foods are available - wonton soup, chow mein, sweet and sour pork, beef and broccoli, fried rice, etc. There is also a grill for cooking your own chicken or pork steaks. The selection of sushi is impressive and availabe fruit and desserts offer satisfaction to most appetites. The oriental may not appeal to all patrons but if you want an inexpensive and reasonable meal it's a good alternative to paying for glitz and decor.

Beyond Disgusting!!!. Grossest food ever!!! No pop?! Seafood was touching chicken and other dishes!! Holy contamination!!!
The chicken balls were dried out lil rocks, that could chip a tooth. The pork was just rude!!!
We left after just a couple bites, I almost threw-up instantly.
No one should be subjected to that food torture.

The management should be punished by eating the foods there.. Just finished and have to take 2 Alka-Seltzer tablets to stop me from throwing up, not from eating too much but from what little I managed to swallow. I was with my family of 4, casually walked in on a Monday night ( Nov.10, 2014), thinking of trying it out because we'd never been there, partially also because I saw some seafood, but the first bite of the fried crab, it was like some dried carton paper stuffed in the crab shell. From then on, it was like a torture, one item after another. I had to finish my plate because I didn't want to waste food, but it was the worst dining experience in my life. The bill was for $48 (2 adults and 2 kids), my wife had a hard time convincing herself why should we pay for such horrid foods, I told her it's the cost of a learning lesson!

Great variety. Kids love this place and there is something for everyone. We have a vegetarian and he is happy to find a good selection. Our 9 and 10 year olds love the crab and probably eat $50 worth each. I am surprised it is getting bad reviews. The service is friendly (they gave us free jugs of coke on the table) and our youngest daughter, 10, is taking her birthday party there. Seniors get a reduced bill. Not the 4 Seasons, I guess. Tekla

Please do not waste your $$$$ going to this restaurant. After 5 years of not visiting this restaurant I was forced to go yesterday to celebrate my mom birthday. restaurant was nearly empty on a dinner hour, kind of hesitant to enter but still proceeded. disappointment immediately happened when I saw all the food.. 95% were just reheated, no more dimsums, sushi was poorly made.. dessert fruits were nearly dried due to exposure to air, cakes looks like it was displayed on their tray for more than two days, ice cream was labelled april 2014 not sure if this was the expiry date or the date it was manufactured.. still too old for me. waitress was rude and does not listen to customer's request.. I have made a commitment not to go back here unless someone drags me inside. it was sad to see how this restaurant degraded its quality.. if you want to waste your money.. go here but if you want to keep your digestive system healthy try to avoid going here :(

Horrible.. *Please, at the very least CONSIDER these user reviews if you're thinking about going here!*

I have never been so disappointed in service or food at any establishment other than Oriental Buffet. I work in the service industry myself, and am both well sympathetic and empathetic regarding quality control with both the employee's service, and the food. But I have to say, this place certainly takes the cake when it comes to garbage.

It sounds harsh, I know. I'm all for supporting the wealth and growth of businesses. However, in this instance, when you have what is supposed to be HOT food that is sitting either VERY luke warm-to-cold in temperature, combined with fried food that clearly have been basking under a very dim heat lamp, broccoli that is supposed to be green but has turned a dark brown due to, I'm hoping at the very least, sitting out for a really long time, you begin to wonder what this business is doing there in the first place. Some items were completely lacking in its flavour, while others were unfortunately over seasoned with salt. It certainly is not an "exaggeration from a sour customer" when they say the only good food at that place are the cookies, and the ice cream. Which both items have presumably been shipped in, not made in house.

The server had absolutely no customer service skills what-so-ever. My table of six made a point to say a genuine, friendly "thank you" every time she did something, after we had to search her down to even request something in the first place. No eye contact was ever made, no smile was ever flashed, just a frustrated, clearly disgruntled employee flustered over the two other tables that were eating in the restaurant. When we were paying for our food, after passing us the payment machine, she began tapping away at her cellphone. When the receipt printed out, once again, no smile, no eye contact, anything.

I wish I could say I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, really. My entire six top, plus a couple of tables beside us all agreed that this place has seen better days years before. It is sad to see something so hopeful go downhill. I hope that whoever manages/owns this place realizes the opportunity to do better and change these reviews that are being left about their business. Consider retraining your staff to push out quality food, and even more-so quality service. Because as of right now, this place is certainly not a place I would recommend to anyone. What a waste of food that COULD be amazing, and what a waste of time that COULD be potentially well spent.

Absolutely gross, the food was tasteless, nasty. The only good thing there was the ice cream and cookies. The miso soup was disgusting the wanton soup was bland and the prices were a bit high.

Have not returned here for 10 years, and now i remember why. Hosted a party here for 70 guests and we had to ask to get refills for drinks many times, borrow a knife, refill food, etc. seemed very underprepared for a large party although it was booked months ago. Not impressed by service at all!!!! They never once had a smile on their face until we were paid and leaving. This place would do much better if the staff were friendly. Never returning and im certain neither are any of our guests.

Wasted time & money. This place was good prob 7years ago! What happen?! THEY NEED A NEW MANAGEMENT, CHEF and whatever else to survive. The food are terrible and the facility looks rundown. Maybe trying to save some bucks to survive by serving left over food items!
Bmavis63
Stay away. About 50 of use had lunch and most said the food was terrible. The food ether warm or cold. None of the food was hot. Most had no flavour, and the meat dishes, had lots of fat. I will not return to this place.
TBear
I thought I was going to die. The last time that I went to this place we found mold on their food. When this was brought to their attention, the staff brushed it off as their suppliers who shipped them the old food. I am no shipper/receiver, but shouldn't you check the food when you receive it and send it back with the supplier vs. making your guests sick. That's the way to have your a$$ served to you with a law suit of some kind for serving spoiled food.
Aaron Jeffery
I have gone here whenever I come to Surrey ever since I was a kid. Some people I know came here since my last visit and said it has gone downhill. Their experience could not have been more different from mine. The food was hot and well stocked. Sure a bit greasy but that is to be expected from what we call Chinese Food. I look forward to the next time I come in and can eat here again.

Terrible Food- Oriental 'crappy' food. Was there today for lunch with a friend. We both hated it. THIS IS THE VERY LAST TIME WE GO to this rip off restaurant. Food was not hot, lots of fat on meat items, overcooked in some instances. CHEAPOS who own/run this place recently CUT BACK on luncheon items. ie. NO MORE MUSSELS, No PRAWNS in shell. Seriously, the quality of this place has gone way down. Godzilla who's up front doesn't help either. LIKE I SAID...LAST TIME GOING TO THIS PLACE.

STAY AWAY... NOT WORTH THE EFFORT to Eat Crappy Food.
Nazz
Absolutly horrific horrible. Don't do it. I was in and out in 5 minutes. Couldn't finish an item left the food on my table and gladly paid the 15 BUCKS just to get the hell out! !
JennJenn
Gross. What a waste of money. Its obvious that food quality and service is not their strong suit. It was dead in there and we had to keep ringing the bell to be seated. The food was horrific. Save your money and go elsewhere. They obviously don't care about their service or their food...It shows in the product.
Bonny
Well we ate there tonight (Feb17 2013) and it AWEFUL!!!!!! Don't waste your money or time. Even if your starving !!! The place is dirty totally run down Will NOT eat there again

Food needs improvement. Buffet not stocked up fast enough.. About 2 months ago, they were closed for renovations when we showed up one day. Today was our first visit back. We noticed that they added nice brand new tables. That seems to be it. The food selection is less, the dim sum is no longer offered. They had 4 birthday parties there tonight, so the place was packed full. However the food kept running out. Silly things, like no potato salad, no pickled beets, just empty bowls. How hard is that to refill? They seated us at a table that was set, but it had a big soya sauce stain on it, we had to point it out and get it wiped up. When our first round of plates were done, we had to sit next to those dirty dishes right up until the end of our meal. The floor on the south side of the restaurant has rotten floor boards under the carpet, so you sink into these squishy floor spots when you walk. Their desert bar was 85% empty too. Two adult buffets, plus 1 beverage came out to $37 and change. We didn't leave a tip this time. Wasn't happy and may avoid them in the future. They really need to keep that buffet stocked and find a better chef. The fried chicken legs were just dripping in grease, almost like they poured extra grease on top of them to discourage people from eating them. I don't know. If you want to have a strange dining experience, go ahead and try them. Maybe one day they'll get new management and the place will change for the better.
Amanda
Worst buffet food we have ever tasted....don't know how they stay in business serving awful tasting food!
SpeshBun
Greasy Landmark. This eyesore has existed in Guildford for a long time. A massive building that never reaches 25% capacity, this is a haven for cheap, greasy food. Eating here usually leads to feeling pretty upset in the stomach.
Devin
Wasn't Bad. I thought this place was pretty good.. The outside looks grungy but when you get inside it looked clean on a Friday afternoon. The food was deep fried greasy and sweet and salty. Isn't that what American style Chinese food is? I am from Calgary maybe BC people are used to a higher standard but it seemed about the same as what you would get in Calgary. The dim sum tasted good everything was pretty tasty except for the wonton soup broth which was watery but the actual wontons were good. Selection isn't the biggest (i've had buffets with over 100 items around this price point ), there isn't any big ticket items like snow crab or steak or anything but its not bad for $10.99.
Clee
I used to go there when I was little and I don't remember it being so bad. The food here are not prepared nicely and seems like they are just thrown together. Lots of msg and amongst the worst Chinese food even for Surrey's standard. I would avoid going at all cost.
Lilsweetie
Going downhill fast. This place used to be awesome, but now it's dirty and the food seems to be greasier/saltier. The dessert selection is also dismal and the ice cream scoops and tubs are downright disgusting. If it were super-cheap I may be able to overlook some of its shortfalls but it's not. Spring rolls are good though!

This restaurant is very popular with Chinese tour groups; the tour buses pull up and the high volume of customers keeps the food fresh. Dinner per person is a reasonable $14.99 plus tax; various alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are also available at
