Our love for and quest for great dim sum, usually takes us to Richmond. A one hour haul from Aldergrove but worth it to a foodie. However, I have read some good things about Lee Yuen and actually, some friends took me there, a long time ago,  for Salt Fish and Chicken Fried Rice (among other things) which was frankly amazing. So why not try their dim sum? I thought that we were in for a wait arriving at 11:00 am on a Sunday, but Lee Yuen has a fairly large dining room (and fear not, there is parking behind the restaurant) and we were seated right away. Arriving first was Deep Fried Bean Curd Wraps with Shrimp and we were off to an excellent start. Served with a black vinegar dipping sauce, these were very hot out of the fryer and so crispy with a succulent shrimp and spinach filling. Marie wasn't too keen on the spinach but I thought the vinegar was a perfect foil for the greens. Next came some wonderful Chicken Feet with Special Sauce. We consider ourselves nearly bona fide experts on chicken feet now and these are some of the best we have had. Meaty and tender and the sauce is a wonderful tomato based concoction with peanuts and jalapenos. These were some large meaty Sui Mai. To be honest, I don't usually order Sui Mai. My brain was saying Har Gow even as I checked the box but I am not sorry that it happened as these made us happy. They were a nice mix of the shrimp and pork, moist and tasty. We usually order a rice roll and this time it was Rice Roll with Beef and Cilantro. The sauce was a little sweet and very nice while the beef was ground (I was picturing Taiwanese beef roll style) with the cilantro providing a perfect note. Finally came Deep Fried Pork and Shrimp Dumplings and these were also excellent. My partner loved the rice flour shell which was just a little sweet with again the nice shrimp and pork mixture inside! So we basically had 5 hits on our hands. It cannot be attributed to my ordering skills as little was what I thought I was ordering. If it is then true that there is very good dim sum outside of Richmond, then we can all take courage and continue the quest. Lee Yuen is a wonderful place to start. Nice people and efficient service! Comfortable digs. I can heartily recommend that you give this place a try!

This is by far, my favourite place in Surrey for Chinese food. When I don't want to make that journey to Richmond for the variety of Chinese food, I come here. Their dim sum is amazing, it is definitely the highlight of this place.

One of my favourite dishes to get when I come here is the Siu Mai. They serve the biggest Siu Mai that I have ever seen! Quality is right up to par with quantity, however. The flavour is nice and bold, not too salty, and you get that highly-sought-after umami taste as soon as you take your first bite. It is a must-try if you are visiting Lee Yuen.

Another dish I have fallen in love with is the baby octopus. There is no chewy octopus here - only the smooth sailing of the plate from the hands of the servers onto your table. It is ridiculously tender, and although they do pair it with a broth, it does not mask the flavour of the octopus, it only compliments it.

I will see you hopefully sometime in the near future, Lee Yuen!

Great dim sum, they put a lot of shrimp in their Ha Gaow (shrimp dumpling), Siu Mai and rice sheet rolls.

On the other hand their seafood crispy fried noodle was somewhat lacking - it costs 18.75 had a clear sauce which was filled with cornstarch and was a bit bland, though the seafood was pretty fresh and well-portioned.  The noodles are a little wider than most other Cantonese Chow Mein and seem to be a bit too flaky/flat where it isn't crunch. More recently I tried their "Lee Yuen Special Chow Mein" which uses soy sauce but was disappointed to find it did not have seafood - only chicken breast and bbq pork. It did has a wider variety of vegetables (carrots, celery, baby corn, broccoli etc.) than the seafood chow mein which only had bok choy. The "Cantonese Chow Mein"  has a nice garlic soy sauce and comes with Seafood, chicken and BBQ Pork but only has bok choy.

So if you're looking for something similar to "House special" Chow mein like other stores nearby, order CANTONESE Chow Mein not the House Special! Neither show up on their lunch menu but just ask for it. However, I'd still say other places nearby have better cantonese chow mein for cheaper.

Also, you need to check for flies around here when packing for leftovers! We packed a fried squid to go which seemed to be fine but when we got home there was a fly inside and it laid eggs on the food...

well then another dimsum day, and this time my friend recommended this location, so far the portion was definitely on the happier side, which means bigger portion for me, and price wise it's around the same, but overall due to the portion, the fulfillment of the food vs price is definitely worth coming over, and as for the food it definitely taste good too, there were a lot of items that could have been better but overall is satisfactory.

New favorite for dimsum! Serves great tasting food for a good price, has good service compared to a lot of other places and the place isn't cramped (quite spacious with a lot of seating. The dimsum is generally around $4-5 dollars and had good portions! Besides offering dimsum in the morning, they offer a lot of other good food choices such as the expected fried rice, noodle soups to more traditional choices. Our family enjoyed the seafood congee, and let met tell you, this place doesn't cheap out on the portions or goodies at all! Great flavor, always fresh and good prices, you'll love it!

TIP: There is seldom parking spots available so try arriving earlier, not during peak times or if you're unable to find parking, there is parking at the superstore across the street.

One of the best places to get Chinese food in Surrey. The manager at the front is a rude bitter man but don't let that deter you from eating here. My favourite dishes are the peking duck and the crab with black bean sauce. If your looking to get a vegetable, I'd highly recommend the spicy green beans. What I don't recommend is the chowmein with bbq pork, it's very plain and dry. If you're ever in Surrey be sure to check this place out.

I'm glad they server dimsum these recent years cause they didn't before. Food is good, big portion (the shrimp dumpling and xiumai are big), reasonable price, services okay => my favorite dimsum place. My husband and I go for dimsum here like twice/ month.

Lee Yuen is my family's new 'go to' restaurant for Chinese and dim sum. We had avoided this place for years because of the dingy exterior, but finally decided to trey it. We were very pleased! All of the dishes that I have tried have been exceptional. The crispy green beans, sticky rice and unique deep fried squid are a few of my personal favourites. The only downside to this establishment is the parking situation, but that can easily be overlooked due to the quality of the food. Highly recommend!

I can honestly say that this place is likely the best Chinese food in Surrey.  I don't know whay anyone would order from the dumbed down side of the menu, but eveything else here is great.  They really know how to satisfy.  The salted fished and chicken fried rice is excellent as is the Kway Teow noodles and all my other favourites.

The ambiance is a total blast from the past.  Even though it's reminicent of the old neighbourhood standby Chinese restaurant, it serves decent food.  It ties the past to the present and I love it for that.

We came here for dinner last night and the restaurant was packed!! Their service was impeccable, fast and efficient. The food came out very quickly. We were all very hungry after a day of hiking at Capilano bridge. The fish maw soup with crab meat was delicious. So werethe fried beef rice noodles, seafood hotpot and garlic fried ribs. The Mongolian beef on hot plate was a little disappointing as it tasted like they used ketchup for the sauce and was a little too sweet. The Szechuan egg plant and shredded pork was a little on the sweet side also. So we won't be ordering those dishes. Also dislike the Singapore fried vermicelli which is usually one of my family's favorite when we eat out. Too much curry powder overpowered this dish and it wasn't mixed in thoroughly. Surprising we liked the lemon chicken! It was delicious. Overall, it was good and we ate everything on the table. Will come back again to try other things. They will also specially make dishes for u know the names of dishes!! Super like that! We have to have them make beef with tomatoes next time as its one of our favorite as well!

The only Chinese restaurant in Surrey. Well, the only one worth eating at. If you like authentic Chinese food. They are now open for dim sum for those of you who haven't caught the drift by now.

Dim sum - Order on paper then pass it to a server. YUM. It's about time they serve dim sum!!! Just a heads up, Make a reservation for dim sum or you'll be waiting...outside the door. It's always packed!

Food - Some of us has drove 25km just to eat here. Just admit it. So worth it though. We come here for birthdays, family gatherings, baby showers, anniversaries, anything big. And then of course anything small and in between too. So I'll just name a few of my all time favs!

Scalloped egg white fried rice - we order this every single time and it's damn good every single time. Generous amount of all ingredients & fried perfectly.

Peking duck & lettuce wrap - 2 delicious course. 1st part - Perfect slices of duck, fresh hot wraps. 2nd part - Clean, crisp fresh lettuce and flavourful minced duck.

Crab in cream sauce - one of the best I've ever had! Balanced amount of sauce. Other places either give you way too little sauce or more sauce then the crab itself. Perfect consistency of sauce, not too thick not too thin!

For special dinners, you can pre-order the tapioca pudding dessert!!! Soo good.

Service - LOVE the owners and the servers. They take the time to come over and greet you, chat and make sure you are satisfied. They have a lot of regulars and they actually remember them.

So, if you haven't tried Lee Yeun then you should.

This restaurant is the standard that I judge all other Chinese food places by. The food is absolutely incredible, and unlike most other restaurants, the food here doesn't leave me with raging heartburn. While seemingly a little pricey, they give very large portions and there's always leftovers. You can't go wrong ordering anything here, and there are an immense amount of choices. Interior wise this restaurant could use a little work, and the parking lot sucks. My recommendation is ordering in with groups of 5+.

Unassuming with shades of excellence. The restaurant is in an old neighbourhood awaiting gentrification. The parking is limited and the spaces are cramped.Upon entering the Lee Yuen restaurant one is struck by the decrepid building in need of new paint and stucco. Inside , the setting improves only a little. The manager seems to be detached from cheerful bonhomie and making the customer feel at home.He appears to be an unhappy person held prisoner by a job he dislikes. However, a balance is achieved if the young waitresses, possibly daughters, are on duty. Their cheerfulness and vibrancy improve the atmosphere considerably. The service is generally good as the waitresses are helpful and responsive. Customer needs are anticipated, teapots are refilled, and leftovers are packed for transport.
The high point occurs when the food arrives. Seafood specialties such as crab, scallops, and prawns are delectable. The prawns and scallops are cooked to perfection with a moist and snappy texture and fresh ocean taste. Vegetables are colourful and crispy. Meat dishes are succulent and tender.Even simple dishes such as steamed rice and noodles are well presented and prerpared, The Lee Yuen appears to have a faithful clientele regardless of its setting and decor. It is a home for foodies who are unconcerned about graceful surroundings. I usually go to the Lee Yuen with friends who respond to the same "vibrations" that I do. I would never take guests whose sensitivities I'm unfamiliar with.

Awesome Chinese!. I've been going for years. And by far the best Chinese, not so much the best English but there kids can help to translate!

Food is always hot and fresh . I've never had an issue customizing dishes to be veggie or vegan.

Among the best in Surrey. Decent selection of live seafood. Love the live scallops in black bean sauce & when entertaining a larger party the King Crab. Menu though is skewed to western tastes. One of my monthly hang-outs & preferred order-in delivery restaurants.

Great Food. It's a great sign when a Chinese restaurant is full of Chinese patrons. That means the food is authentic and good. It really is at this place. Try the spicy salted squid, the beef lettuce wraps, and the hot and sour soup. Whoah, it's good. Sometimes they're super busy and you have to wait for your take out order even though you've called ahead, but that's my only complaint. I've never been disappointed with the quality of the food. Super yummy.

Excellent Food Every Time!. I've been eating here 22 years and have never had a bad meal. In fact this is my favourite restaurant and the one that I use to judge all other Chinese Food Restaurants by.
The only thing I wish they would change, is to remove shark fin soup from the menu.

Authentic Asian Food. I'm from Toronto vacationing on the west coast. We were looking for an Asian seafood restaurant in Surrey and came across this place. Read the reviews and thought it was good enough. And I'm glad we chose this place. Don't let the appearance of the outside fool you. This place's food matches the authentic Asian restaurants we eat at in China Town back in Toronto. We ate the squid, oysters, prawns and they were simply delicious. You could tell it was fresh and not frozen seafood. The service was also friendly. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for Asian seafood.

Everything here is just awesome. My family and i have been coming here for special occasions for over a decade. The dining room is packed on holidays and weekends, yes the decor is dated and the fixtures are quite old but the food is awesome. The fresh crab in black bean sauce is phenom. If you ask, they will remove the heads on the steamed prawns for you and deep fry them, also amazing. Peking duck here is awesome (in stages: skin then lettuce wraps) and the jellyfish is really good too. I haven't had anything I don't like yet here. Mapo tofu is delicious, as is the gai lan with beef and garlic. It's a bit pricey, but the seafood is super fresh, and the food is great. Bring friends, that way you can try more variety

Descent Chinese food. Given the location in Surrey, good Chinese restaurants are hard to come by, this place has been here for as long as I can remember. Good Chinese food, sizeable portion and at the right price. They only operate during dinner hours. I especially like their stew tofu hotpot. Eat in or take out...give it a try.

Honestly, I’ve had better experiences with Lee Yuen in the past and it probably had something to do with us coming before closing, but still! Prices weren’t bad and atmosphere was decent considering the area we were in. If you’re looking for some chinese in the area, this place might be for you.
