Review Zen Sushi - Surrey

Decided to give this place a try after seeing all the raving reviews. Stunning. Small place, small kitchen, but a warm atmosphere. You have to try the special rolls here. Perfect balance of fillings, toppings, and rice. The Zen Roll, their signature roll I suppose, is a Thai fusion - sour, hot, and sweet. It's hardly a sushi roll, as each piece is deep fried individually. Even the miso soup that comes with the lunch box tastes superb - white miso and not salty at all. Competitive pricing and ample parking. Definitely lives up to its ratings.

Quite traditional sushi. Very fresh as they run out of fish rather than keep to much in stock. The rice is excellent in terms of texture and temperature. Chef knows what he's doing.

Very good quality sushi and side dishes, with large portion sizes. Too bad salmon is farmed. Friendly staff. Clean albeit basic interior design/furniture. Recommended.

Wonderful sushi. First time trying and beat my expectation with selection and presentation. Resonable price and best sushi I've tried to date. Would definately be back again !!!

Very tasty and large portions! The massive deep fried California roll I had was only $7.75 - very well priced. Visited on a Friday around 12:15pm and got a table with no issue. Good spot.

Sushi is amazing. The quality of the ingredients is top notch. Everything tastes fresh and the serving sizes.......biggest rolls I've seen and the prices are great. I usually eat 3 rolls at most sushi restaurants but we ordered 9 rolls and it fed 4 people plus leftovers. This is also the only place where the sushi tastes just as good the next day for leftovers. Overall, very impressed!

This has become our go-to place for a quick bite to eat before our dodgeball league nights, since it's in the area.<br/><br/>The good:<br/>-The pieces of fish on the nigiri and in the rolls are generous in size and high in quality. <br/>-The rice is seasoned well<br/>-The servers remember us even though we only go there once every week or two weeks and remember our preferences<br/>-Prices are reasonable for what you get<br/><br/>The not-so-good:<br/>-The rolls that come with sauce have way too much sauce on them (so we order them on the side)<br/>- The tempera we had on one of the visits was not great. The batter was too thin and not that crunchy. <br/><br/>I've ordered the salmon and tuna maki, salmon, toro, and chopped scallop nigiri, and chopped scallop roll. All were delicious. <br/>Overall, I'm happy to have found a decent sushi place in an unexpected part of town.

Fantastic service and decent sushi for reasonable prices. I've been coming here for years and service has been great at each time (at least from the two owners!) I like their sashimi and more elaborate rolls (and if you ask, they can make cones for certain rolls and not add as much sauce) but I find the quality of their tuna fluctuates sometimes. They have a lot of loyal regulars for a good reason and the two owners are very friendly. Good place for lunch or quick dinners after a long day studying or at work.

Best sushi restaurant. I was sceptical when I first went to Zen but the sushi was the freshest out of all the sushi places I've been to and the service was extremely good . They are very personable to all customers and seem to take pride in not only their food but there customer service !

Great sushi, friendly staff. Since moving to the Guildford area, Sushi Zen has become a regular sushi spot for me and my wife. We usually get takeout for dinner once a week and have tried every roll on the menu (Zen roll and Dragon roll are two of my favourites). The staff are very friendly and even come out to say hi to our dog when we walk to the restaurant to pick up our order. Their unique sauces add a lot of flavor to their rolls and I am never disappointed with quality or taste. We're glad to have them in our neighborhood and wish them all the best as they continue to serve this area of Surrey with their awesome flavours an great food.

Berry delicious. Dis pood was berry nice it is not indian pood but has a berry good ring to the taste I think this will be my afrodesiak

Mediocre menu and food. Driven by high percentage of approval ratings, I went to this restaurant with some expectations. To my big disappointment, this sushi restaurant wasn't as good as it was billed to be. First off, the menu was quite limited compared to many other Japanese restaurants I have been too. For example, there was not enough specialty rolls and not even any bento boxes. Second, the miso soup was quite a bit salty. Thirdly, the service was slow. Only one waitress was available and she had to take orders, both inside the restaurant and take-out orders, as well as take care of the customer check-out payment. Fourthly, no green tea was served - just a cup of cold water. Overall, the food was okay, but given the four points above, this restaurant does not deserve such high ratings.

Sushi zen. Located in a strip mall on the northeast corner of the 108 ave/148 st intersection next to shoppers.<br/>the good:<br/>-their selection of fish is not huge but what they do have is super fresh. freshness of fish is comparable to hanako sushi (also in guildford)<br/>-service was very friendly and the place is small, cute, comfy and homey<br/>-budget friendly prices<br/>the bad:<br/>-wasn't a fan of their special spicy sauce. too sweet for my liking and unfortunately, the Las Vegas roll was drenched in it

AMAZING PLACE. I LOVE this place. It has GREAT service, VERY friendly people who make you feel special, and AMAZING food. Even the prices are cheap! I feel like I always get more for my dollar when I come here, I feel like I'm appreciated and treated SO great! I feel like royalty!

Nope. Alright: I'm staring the waiter in the face as I write this. Because of the abundance of better-than-decent sushi restaurants in the lower mainland I can afford to say that this place isn't worth the trouble. Sushi is about more than cutting fish and these guys can't even do that right. <br/><br/>Anyone living this close to the pacific can allow themselves to expect better.<br/><br/>PS Service is bunk too

I always get their salmon and tuna combo. Their fish to rice ratio is huge ! It's affordable and fresh and the staff are awesome ! On occasion they even throw in a free roll !

I wasn't too happy with my order. It tasted a little weird and some of the rolls were falling apart before I even touched them. Definitely not coming back here.

Pretty god for this neighbourhood

Disappointingly average. Seeing the amazingly high review number on Urbanspoon, I took my family here as we live in Surrey and usually enjoy sushi in Vancouver and Richmond. We ordered quite a few different dishes. The complimentary tea, tempura and fried California rolls were all excellent (as they often are elsewhere). As for the sashimi, the tuna was near frozen whereas the salmon was nothing special. The special rolls were on the larger side but they skimp on the meat/fish and the kitchen seemed to overuse sweet chili as a sauce throughout their different rolls. Octopus balls were heavily advertised in the restaurant and they were not good. Friendly enough service and they often inquired about how our food was but I wish they would have had extra napkins and a tea pot on the table for us. It was a clean and modestly decorated restaurant. They look to do more take-out business as opposed to being a dine-in restaurant. Okay value but I'll keep looking for a better sushi place in the Fraser Valley.

Non pretentious, fresh sushi and great prices!. This is my family's new favorite sushi place. Great taste, fresh and very reasonably priced. We order about once per week and have not been disappointed by the service or the sushi. It's a small and unpretentious but it's clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. Our favorites include: Las Vegas Roll, House Roll, Rainbow Roll and Zen Roll. Sashimi is always fresh and tasty. I am very picky about my sushi and very few places meet my standards so I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi, you will not be disappointed.

Casual and delicious. We checked this one out based on the reviews here, and were not disappointed. Had the ebi sunumono which was excellent, if a little on the salty side, and three types of rolls. All were wonderful, especially the spider roll, and all of the meal was outstandingly fresh. Service was good, and the atmosphere is quite casual. There is even a coffee service but apparently it is self-serve style, which we didn't realize, but the waitress brought it over for us, without making us feel silly. The young sushi chef was friendly and asked us how we enjoyed the food, and we were happy to say it was great!

Best Sashimi Salad We've ever Had! Defiantly our favourite sushi place. Love the zen roll. The owners are wonderful, the atmosphere is clean and the price point is perfect. Highly recommend.

Hidden Sushi Gem. Came here for the first time today, I ordered an ebi sunomono, rainbow roll, and chopped scallop roll. The sunomono was good, they gave 3 shrimps, with thinly sliced cucumbers - it was comparable to Sushi Bella in North Van which I think has the best sunomono. My favorite was the rainbow roll, it was melt in your mouth good! The staff were attentive, friendly, and asked me how everything was when I went up to pay. I will definitely be coming back here and spreading the word about this hidden gem in Surrey Guildford!

Great little place! My fiancée and I were looking for a good sushi place in Surrey and stumbled upon Sushi Zen....and needless to say I am glad we did. Excellent service, the salmon was fresh, good food for a good price all around.<br/><br/>We will definitely be going back. Thanks Sushi Zen!

Sushi Zen. We eat here on a weekley bases , The customer Service is fantastic and the food is delish .... I love the fact that they deliver to the school for lunches also ... so Happy we have them in our Area .

Nom. The zen rolls will be the death of me. 10 pieces of individually battered california roll with thai sweet and spicy sauce. So good! All around great sushi restaurant, considering there isn't much else in the area.

Decent food, decent price. As good as any other sushi place in Guildford and decent price.

I really curious whether these five reviews are real or made up. What are the chances that all five reviews use simple sentence and include grammatical mistakes? Did the employees themselves write these reviews?? I wonder.

I noticed this restaurant only a few weeks ago and i decided to give a try at this place. The place is has a nice ambiance as a new place<br/>And the food portion was quite hugh as well. I would definitely come back later and hopefully the food quality stays the same as well.

Finding a high rated sushi establishment in Surrey was really surprising...and hugely hugely disappointing. I don't know how they got a 94% approval rating, but Sushi Zen was extremely average. The restaurant was next to empty during my Sunday evening visit and service was actually slow considering we were one of the three groups of customers in the store. The sauces they use have a different flavor that what I'm used to expecting in sushi, and I didn't find it an improvement. Sashimi Salad 3.5/5 (photo above) While this salad looks amazing in photos, the sauce they use made it taste strange. It's that golden brown sauce that used at most sushi places for salads, but the one that Sushi Zen serves is distinctly sour. Usually this sauce has a nice light flavor, Sushiful in Vancouver has an amazing one, but this one was overpowering and didn't go well at all. They give you a generous amount of sauce, so if you don't like it you can't really avoid it. The sashimi itself was great. You get

After a nice run at Tynehead Park, we needed some good food to recover. Sushi Zen is about 10 minutes away from that area and kind of on the way home. It was an awesome choice. Sushi Zen has a high rating on Urban Spoon, which is why I chose it. Also, sushi is good energy food. I ordered the Spicy Agedashi Tofu, Zen Roll, Avocado Roll, and Tamago Nigiri. My friends ordered the Wakame Salad, Ebi Sunomono, assorted Nigiri, Tuna Tataki Roll, and a Rainbow Roll. The Agedashi tofu was probably the best each of us have eaten. It came with a kind of sweet, and a tiny bit spicy sauce. The tofu was fried airy and was very light. It kept its crunch for a good period of time. The Zen Roll is a fried California roll with their special spicy sauce. It was pretty good – light and airy, and the sauce was a bit like a sweet thai chili sauce. Not too spicy, but I think they use it as part of the base of the sauce. Each piece was individually fried too, but I think I’ve learne
