Review Morrison Cafe - Surrey

Miss Mayette
I was meeting friends for brunch and they wanted me to suggest something so I literally searched for "brunch white rock". This was one of the suggestions. I liked the simple menu and the photos of the cafe. We chose 10 am on a Sunday but I wasn't sure if we'd need reservations or how long we'd have to wait. First, it's in a strip mall so there was lots of parking - bonus. We walked up at 10 am and had our choice of tables. By the time we were done 90 minutes later, the place was packed. Great timing. Our food was so good. I had the chorizo hash and eggs and the chipotle hollandaise sauce was incredible! Everyone else loved their food as well. I had the ice tea, which was so good. I'm not sure if it's made there or if it was a fountain drink but it was so flavourful - not watered down like I'd had at other places. Our server was great as well.

This little diner-style establishment is a real gem! It has become my absolute favourite place to go for breakfast or brunch. The severs are always friendly, but the great food is what keeps me coming back. You simply can’t go wrong with the eggs Benedict, omelette, pancakes, or waffle.

This used to be a great place to eat and enjoy time with family and friends. Not so much anymore. Recently the co-owners parted ways and the one that really made the place tick left, as did most of the great staff. Since then, the cafe has been open fewer days a week with shorter hours. This has created problems for customers. But that is nothing compared to the rude, dismissive staff and dire need of at least one more cook. Our family decided to give them another try a couple of weeks ago and we were very disappointed. I told the waitress that I had stomach issues due to recent surgery. The only things on the menu I could order were toast and scrambled eggs. She came back a few minutes later to tell me that the cook wasn’t going to cook my 1 egg as it was past breakfast hours. At the very least she could have told me this politely or asked if I wanted something else. My grandsons’ chicken strips and milkshakes came very quickly. However, my husband and daughter-in-law and I waited a good 45 minutes for our food. I was only having toast and they were having a piece of buttered bread and a bowl of soup which only had to be ladled out of a big pot over by the coffee. When we did finally get our food the waitress came very close to spilling my husband’s bowl of soup on my lap. I voiced my shock and she simply walked away saying, “Sorry if that shocked you.” We had a very negative experience that day and will not be going back again. So sad because it is our neighbourhood restaurant. Also, they should take down the sign at the front entrance that says— to paraphrase— “Once you are seated you cannot move as it messes up the staff.” Restaurants exist to serve customers, not the other way around.

Really tasty BLT sandwich! Quality bacon and fresh bread. Friendly service, will revisit for sure.

The service is amazing... all the servers are so friendly and it's nice to see them laugh and smile and chat with each other and the guests, the food good, sadly as a guest you can feel the tension with the kitchen and can hear the chef barking orders and being rude to the staff.

I had the ham and cheese omelette with excellent pan fries and sourdough toast for brunch , it was as close to perfect as I can tell you ! The coffee was fresh and hot a refilled without any need to look for my server, really enjoyed my meal and the service. Back there soon 🔜👍

Rip off!!! Used to be my fav place. Ordered omelette less toast and potatoes, replaced with tomatoes, paid $6 surcharge? Waitress response “I know…” What is the world coming to? I’m ashamed this long time breakfast place has lost what made it unique as a value to our community. :(

Not very vegetarian friendly. I ordered pancakes (comes with meat) but asked for vegetarian option. They upcharged 3$ so 3 plain pancakes + tiny ramekin of canteloupe was 20.53$ with tip and tax. Even the waitress said it makes no sense.

My business partners and I have been regulars here for almost 2 years now. We sit down, they know our order and the food comes out before we have the first few sips of our coffee. The very best for breakfast. ( we have been having the 3 egg omelette almost exclusively since we started coming here). Love the staff, love the, place love the food!

I go almost weekly for breakfast. My favourite breakfast place by far. The food is amazing and the wait staff really get to know you.

We went for breakfast today - it's my son's favorite! - and the server asked if my son wanted a straw for his juice. I think it would be great if they went straw-free!

Fries tasted like fish - 2 clubhouse and 1 drink = $42. !!! $2 extra for gluten free bread which was 1/2 the size of the wheat bread sandwich. Asked for mayo for the fries and was informed of a $.75 charge. Sorry but that was our last visit.

Amazing breakfast. Staff are friendly and the diner is cute. Highly recommended.

Took mom & girlfriend for breakfast, food was good as usual. The service was brutal, waitress couldn't given less of a fuck. I've eaten there lots & the service seems to get worse. "To small to fail" don't kid yourself!

Long wait, rude servers, never got menus, and we went on a Tuesday while it was slow.

Morrison Cafe .... you need to let your local community know about your Mexican evenings on the weekend! Oh my....so delicious! Especially the Grilled Fish Tacos!

The best food and friendly staff. Love this place!

The food as usual was excellent, but the service time was dry slow.

Morrison Cafe is really tucked away in Ocean Park. This cafe has been here in some form for decades. Now upgraded & modern. With no more than 12 tables, it maybe small but this mighty place delivers on quality & portions! Skillfully decorated with chalk board art explaining their locally sourced ingredients and classic homestyle pies! Friendly & fast service. You get a sense of community as other patrons wave hello to one another & servers greet them by name. "Too small To fail" indeed. Delicious option for breakfast if you're in the neighborhood! We visited this small diner in April 2016, just after their Reno, with my sister and grandmother. My chocolate milkshake was spectacular. The decor is great, and we barely waited at all for our entrée. We underestimated the size of the fish and chips. The fish is very large. I only ate one piece, but it was very good. The breading could have used a touch more salt, though. Our carrot cake was great, but it could have been better if there were no nuts inside the cake. Service was great. The atmosphere and food were great, and I recommend this restaurant to families looking for a good bite to eat.

Ate here Oct, 3, 2014.<br/>Western Burger with salad.  Vinegar and Oil dressing.<br/>Oil was poisoned.  Nerve deterioration. <br/>Some of the customers knew, judging by comments I heard. Probably pesticide.<br/>Owner knew it.  Waitress knew it.  None of them know me, and won't even talk to me.<br/>They are led to hate me by undercover RCMP, who are now the cooks.<br/>If you want hate-filled, cowardly snakes-in-the-grass to poison you, eat at this disgusting dump

Divorce can ruin a family. Well divorce ruined this family restaurant. We have been eating at the Morrison for years and years and loved that not only one of the best hamburgers but also a damn good breakfast and OMG the bread pudding was a short walk from our front door.<br/><br/>That all changed dramatically when the restaurant passed into the hands of the former owner's wife. Change is fine, but the drop in quality with the 'new' owners is SHOCKING, and we were really hopeful that it wouldn't be. Four meals later and it may as well be a vacant storefront to us, we won't be going back. Across the board - burgers, breakfast, coffee, fries - the quality of the food and preparation collapsed. Such a shame.<br/><br/>The bread pudding is still good, so 1 star.

SENS FAN EAST COAST P.E.I.. Saw a piece on tv about a hamburger there, named in honour of THE HAMBURGULAR.<br/>Wish we were there to try it, we might even eat it off the ice like Curtis Lazar did!<br/>GO SENS AND WELL WISHES TO ANDREW HAMMOND.<br/>THANKS FOR THE GREAT HOCKEY!

I started eating here at the start of the summer. They have 2 of the sweetest most polite servers I have ever met, the food is fresh and good tastes like mom made it. Every time I leave there I have a smile in my face and a warm feeling in my tummy.

Morrison's had ok food but their service was horrible. I went last year and had aa magnificent server and went back today and was very dissatisfied with my service.

We love having breakfast at Morrisons, so warm and friendly, and the food is yummy!

Holy! First time in this place. Blown away. Awesome breakfast can't wait to try lunch next time. Great atmosphere, lots of happy "regulars"(Heard the guy working calling half the customers by their name. Very neat! I've been looking for a place like this!

Finally! So glad to see the service at this little gem is now living up to the awesome food! Really glad to see the young man from the kitchen using his talents out front as well. He brings a a high level of service and fun to the restaurant it was desperately lacking! Although faces have changed and were nice people the new staff seems to be operating at a much higher level. Keep up the good work!

Yuk. Breakfast.... food below par, greasy re heated pan fries, undercooked sausages that took 40 mins to come out the kitchen !! not impressed

Nothing special. I give it 5 out of 10.

Love the food! My only complaint; the hours suck and I cant eat there as often as id like.

Really good breakfast!! Service is on the slow side. However, server did eventually refill coffee and jam when asked. Place was very busy so it took awhile to be seated and for meals to arrive. The food was worth the wait. Will go back if I'm in the area.
Sarah
Great Experience. Was in this place earlier this afternoon after hearing great things. I wasn't disappointed. The food I had was terrific. I had one of their tasty sandwiches which had my mouth watering. It was pretty busy but I was served by a very kind young lad who did a very good job. I would of tried one of there desserts but I was too full. Will be coming back again another day!

Great food, not so great service. I waited about 7 minutes today for my bill before getting fed up and just throwing down a $20 and leaving. This needs improvement.
Michael Beeney
Excellent Food!. If i could make it clearer let it be known the food is excellent. Given my last bad review on the service I was actually approached by the Chef. To my relief he took the comments in stride and showed his eagerness to make improvements, this is the sign of a very good restaurant that cares what people say. Dine here and the memory of the food will have you coming back for more.

Yummy breakfasts. We always come here for breakfast. All the local's know this place too, so there can be a few people lined up on the weekends, but the wait is worth it. Awesome eggs benedict, and my Mom loves the Black Watch for the blood pudding. We're actually going this morning to get our fix!
I Heart Good Eats
I [heart] the Morrison. Best. Burger. Going. Period. Try the Rambler Burger - cajun-smoked bacon, crispy onions, and all-world. Seriously, forget the BS and try the Morrison. Reasonable prices, great burgers and fries, solid breakfasts and milkshakes to die for. As per the some of the other posts, yes, the servers may take an extra 30 seconds to get your drink - they're busy people, because the place is really good. Get over it and head back to Earl's if you want to be accosted every 30 seconds with questions from a server. If you really like diner food, this place is doing it right. What are you waiting for?

The local secret. That Morrison's Cafe has one of the best burgers in the region is something of a carefully held secret by residents in the Ocean Park/Crescent Beach area, but its Co-owner/chefs, Matt Hammond and Lindsay Macri have recently gone public with one of the secrets to their great taste: fresh, local food.<br/> <br/>Long before the "local food" frenzy, Morrison's purchased in season ingredients from Fraser Valley farms to give their customers freshest flavour possible, except their beef, which is dry aged a minimum of 28 days. New signage - also by a local artist - lets the eco conscious community in on its 100 mile secret.<br/><br/>Morrison's fresh flavour is no secret to Surrey Councillor and Ocean Park resident, Bob Bose, a descendant of one of Surrey's pioneer farm families.

Customers please note. Most of the negative reviews being posted from June to present are from a disgruntled ex employee who cannot seem to move on. We 're proud of what we have done in the burger competition and would like to thank all of our amazing loyal customers for helping us get there.
Munching Madness
Lost the burger competition 3 years in a row ! Why would anyone put a plaque up in their restaurant promoting their loss lol , maybe if you add more meat to the patties you might be in with a slight chance, I could hardly see the meat on the bun !
Wassup
Food average, typical greasy spoon! Servers a bit slow and forward... Was asked if I wanted my change back! don't think I would rush back. Don't think the kitchen cooks realise you can hear them talking and cursing about their patrons !

Nice homey place. We went to morrisons today. it was very busy for such a small place but the staff was very friendly + efficient. great food + coffee + good prices. would absolutely go back.
Rob
To say the least, the breakfasts are good, I go to morrisons often. But recently the sausages have been awfully greasy, and the toast far to buttery. Not to mention a price increase, and that my waitress shorted me on my change back. I think I'm going to take a break from the cafe for a while.
Jerry
Huge disappointment. The place was half empty at 10:30 on a Saturday morning. That was the first clue. We waited 45 minutes after ordering our food, and then asked where our breakfast was and were told our order was accidentally given to someone else. We waited another 10 minutes. Anger = loss of appetite, so we left. I can't believe they made us pay for the coffee!!<br/><br/>On a different occasion I heard a waiter telling the cook a customer had some special request on their breakfast order and the guy in the kitchen said "I don't give a f .....!"<br/><br/>And for this we pay $30 for breakfast for two? Never again.

I was in the other day with a friend for afternoon tea we ordered a scone and a muffin the scone was hard in the middle so i spoke to the waitress she said she would put it in the microwave to soften it up i was shocked and asked her why she was putting it in microwave she told me they were yesterdays after all there is a sigh above the pastry counter that says baked freash daily should read baked fresh every other day but still charge the same money i wont be back again disgraceful
WinNer
Winni. I love this restaurant!! I was just there last week and the food is fabulous, the staff is very efficient and courteous, and the prices are so reasonable. The owners do a great job of preparing delicious food and this place is always busy....(a testament to how good the food really is)! Try the fish and chips or one of the salads. Always great.

Love it. I have been coming to The Morrison Cafe for years, and even though the menu and staff have changed i think that it still has a wonderful friendly atmosphere. the servers are very personable and try their best to provide good service. Their breakfasts are to die for and their home made fries are delicious. i would definatley come back again and highly recommend it.

Looked forward to lunch. I am from out of town, and my best moment is when we can all get together at the Morrison for lunch. Had not been there since new ownership and do not think I will return. The owner glared at all of us the whole meal, meals were smaller, carrott cake used to be the best. Atmosphere was just not good. Think the owners should just show customers and staff just a little more respect. They used to have other great staff but they have since left and I can understand why. You know, owners, if not for patrons you have nothing.
Nell
Nell. Went here for breakfast on a Saturday morning, waited 10 mins for our table to be cleaned, servers were so disorganised and inexperienced with no good skills whatsoever ! waited 45 mins for our food to arrive and no refill on the coffee either... will NEVER go back !!
Love Hautecuisine
A very pleasant surprise...too bad yet only opens till three and they have a great house salad and decent burgers. I'd definitely go there again and recommend all who'd like to go! I can't wait to try their brunch next time...!
Wasajones
The Best food in town. Their beer batter fish and chips are fabulous.
CNR
Best breakfast around!. We go every weekend. I have their chorizo hash...sooooo good!

Good food, poor service. Seems obvious the new owner has never run a restaurant before. Love the Fawlty Towers comparison!
Nesling
Fawlty Towers has come to Ocean Park. This restaurant used to have lovely service but now It is like Fawlty Towers. This place has the rudest and poorest service of any restaurant I have been to anywhere. It's too bad. Poor service, smaller portions, hardly a recipe for success.

Writing this review I can see that only 3 people have said whether they liked or didn't like the Morrison, myself included. On one hand this doesn't surprise me since it's tucked away in the 'elderly' suburban area of ocean park, white rock; however, it's worth finding! The breakfast is always satisfying and delicious, the service is fast and friendly and the cappucino milkshakes are to die for! Just stay away from the deep fried mars bar ;) if you're ever in white rock or just passing through and you happen to stop in OP (ocean park) skip the OP pub and go for the Morrison!

Recently renovated and looks great! Very impressed with the friendly air about this little spot. I wish that they served breakfast longer than 11. This was my third attempt to make it in time for breakfast and was totally worth the last try.

Gold Canada Gold! After watching Canada win the Olympic gold medal, we took a short nap, and dropped by Morrison Cafe for breakfast. This little diner in South Surrey has all kinds of traditional breakfasts. I picked the Furthy. i.e. the wee meal. It was 1 egg, 1 bacon, 1 sausage, 1 toast with pan fries. A little bit of everything, perfect portion size for me. I really enjoyed the pan fries, although they were salty at first bite, they were really delicious with ketchup. The sausage was also really soft and tender. Dave ordered the Chorizo hash with scrambled eggs. The hash was very flavourful and cheesy; and the hollandaise was creamy and smooth. Our friend got the Morrison Benedict with ham and tomato. She liked the hollandaise sauce, but found the dish lack of flavour compared to the chorizo hash. Good diner option for diner in South Surrey, we had a good satisfying breakfast here. Morrison Cafe 12855 16th Ave. Surrey, BC V4A1N5 The post Morrison Cafe appeared first on
